Tenebris is described as a fae... but more specifically he reminds me of the Metsänväki.

It's an animistic concept in that they are also the forest, but loosely they're kind of forest folk/spirits/creatures that are guardians and protectors of the natural world.

The most powerful of them are forest gods like Tapio, Mielikki, Annikki, Tellervo, Nyyrikki (the god of hunting), and Tuulikki.

Ten is up there in his society's social hierarchy but rather than being like fae or human style royalty... are Ten's family more like that?

I'd say his father resembles a court fae, while his mother is more akin to what you described. In the Duality universe, the fae can be very diverse. Pixies and small forest spirits are more atune to nature and not that hostile, but you can have bigger fae like the changelings and court fae such as Tenebris' dad. The latter are similar to human royalty, others live in trees and rivers and tree hollows.
