Thought of the week
Tumblr media
I'm an avid follower of the lovely Michael Johnson's 'Thought for the Week'. I've actually never met him but we have exchanged emails :) The latest thought was just up my street so to speak - it's a collaboration between them and Ravensbourne. They are creating an alaphabet of three dimensional letters using some 3d prototyping technology. Will be worth following his blog to see this develop into what can only be an interesting exhibition.

I particularly like the uppercase 'B' - created with Bembo and Bodoni

Neon signs to treehouses? I'm thinking this fits somewhere in the middle...
A design company in the UK, Newenglish Design, in collaboration with Creed Design Associates created these signs for the Watermead Park Climate Trail, in Leicester. I'm liking the totems made from the metal drums.

Treehouses
I have a desperate need to live amongst trees! Living in Sydney, I feel I'm pretty lucky - but when the kids leave home - I'm thinking a tree house would be just perfect!

Neon...
Tumblr media
I still haven't designed a neon sign - its one of my 'things to do before I forget' along with 'designing my own typeface'. Stumbled across this on the CR blog this morning... not an advocate of coke but this is a really interesting article... have a look...  It's about the first Coke sign in Piccadilly Circus, great images and there's some interesting 'technical data' - 'the letter 'C' of Cola has 21 sections totalling 174 feet...'
uppercase C

A4 paper festival
Managed to catch the A4 paper festival at the Paper Mill - a celebration of paper featuring Japanese paper artist Prof Yoshinobu Miyamoto. Loved the ear-ring window art! And those zines are v inspirational. Check out more exhibitions and workshops here

Antiques and Streets in Melbourne
Just got back from a great trip to Melbourne, caught up with an old friend:), helped out with a few pieces of natural history at the AAADA fair and soaked in the coolness of the place. Ate well and can recommend borsh vodka and tears for lunch in Pahran, the European for breakfast and France Soir in South Yara for dinner, although you have to book 3 weeks in advance!
We had a great spot in the fair under the 'dome' at the Royal Exhibition Building.

200 Cardboard boxes
My daughters have just converted a cardboard box into a theatre over the school holidays with the help from their grandma, (watch this space), and today I came across this installation at the National Contemporary Art Museum in Bucharest, Romania until June 12th.

Now and When...
Australian Urbanism. Keep an eye out for this exhibition at the Object gallery, 2 July til 25 September. After recently returning from the Northern Territory it takes a bit of getting used to being back in the city but this caught my eye, how our city could be in the future. Two of my favourites.

More rabbits and chocolate
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How adorable is this? The Salad Shop identity and environment designed by Chris Lee at Asylum, Singapore - created around the saying that 'Salad is rabbit food'. And while looking through his site see here, I came across the Chocolate Research Facility identity and I immediately thought of my niece Elicia, a 'chocoholic' by nature.
