Final Blog Reflection
Sad to say this will be my final blog post for ART102, and has been an weird experience to have to use tumbler to do so; as I have not ever in the past. After a semester in this class I can definitely say I have relearned a lot of information from back in high school and some new ones I can definitely take with me. I have strengthened my knowledge in photoshop, indesign and illustrator and hope to continued to use them in the future if needed now that I know the basics of designs. I have enjoyed this class as well as the acquaintances I have made. I am very glad I hade plenty of class time to work on each project as it was hard with the application to do so at home. As for the last project I had fun creating a process book, and seeing it come to life at the very end. I wanted the book to represent myself and iI feel it did just that with the many colors and groovy pattern. I wish I took more screenshot during the process of each project but I feel I had enough to show how I got to the final. I very happy with how this semester has ended and the final project. Thank you.

Project six prob has to be the easiest project to date. I was glad we had the optional to choose our theme. It really gives me time to expand my creativity. For my syntax + semantics project I chose different styles of Yeti cups, a total of four. I always have one cleaned in my kitchen for my ice coffee. I had fun with commenting on the four categories and thought outside my bubble. I chose to keep the layout simple and photos clear on the top of the page with text underneath. I also learn paragraph styling, which was a major help it kept everything together and each typeface the same for each section of the text I was writing. It turn out way better than I thought.

Blog post #5 ARTS102 ā
This week we have bee working on our logos. My two characters are Snoopy and Charlize Brown. Using the concept matrix I picked two idea to create logos for the two characters. For snoopy I chose a root beer wearing sunglasses; rootbear is snoopy favorite drink, and Snoopy is known for wearing the round black iconic glasses. For Charlie Brown I used the pattern of his shirt as the pattern of the kite; Charlie Brown is known for both. Like in my last post once I had this concept I stop creating others, thats why my sheets are so empty. I plan on finishing up project 4 this weekend and adding some text and color. Very excited.

Blog post #4 for ARTS 102 ā
This week we submitted project 3 GoTv poster, as well as started project 4 Logo marks. I believe my presentation went well for the poster project. I created it using adobe illustrator. I chose a quote by Martin Luther King, and representantes the quote using another common quote, āhear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil,ā because of being āsilent about things that matterā, I also chose to use skeletons because that what are bodies become when āour lives end.ā I drew out the skulls and hands while adding colors using organic shapes. I chose a bold text type and the background a gradient blue. The womenās nails are red and the skulls are a prominent white; to represent the colors of the flag. I had a hard time choosing the background because I didnāt want to take away from the text and illustration of the poster, so I went simple. I quote I found from the reading by Richard Wurman that ties into this project, āYou should use words when words are better; you should use pictures when pictures are better. And you should marry them both when thats better.ā
Iām excited about starting Project 4, Creating a logo seems fun especially choosing our own two characters as the theme. We started with a thumbnail sheet and a concept matrix which Iām not best at simple sketches. I chose Snoopy and Charlie Brown as my two concept characters. I started on the concept matrix; I found on google a website about the Peanut characters, this helped a lot which themes of my two characters. I didnāt draw much on my concept matrix or thumbnail sheet. Once I got my idea I like and knew I could create a fun logo using shapes with, I stop drawing.

For this weeks reflection of ARTS 102, I included pictures of works I created in other classes these past weeks, along with a current project I am working on for this class specifically. The bottom composition are of Color hues and Cold Warm contrast, I wanted to make it groovy and have organic form as well. This project for ARTS 102 that we are currently working on is the third project of the semester and is a GoTv + the greatest ideas poster. The challenge of the project is to choose a quote from a list given, and create a poster that leaves a lasting impression through the lens of a Get Out The Vote. I chose a quotes from martin Luther king, āour lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.ā I was drawn to this quote instantly, and really through it spoke to the world around us today and what it means to vote. I wanted to grab from the concept of āsee no evil hear no evil speak no evilā with my poster because that what came to mind when hearing the quote. I also believed that it really ties into being silent about what we see, hear and even tell each other on a daily biases and it doesnāt work anymore to just do nothing. The hands are women hands with bright red nail polish, I wanted to draw symmetry into the poster. I picked the skull because that what happens at the end of the day we all pass and our lives end. I plan on wrapping it up over the weekend and adding some background but havenāt decided yet.

Since my last post regarding ARTS 102 I have gotten more used to using technology as the main art form. Ive always been better with illustrator but things have updated. Iām still following a concept of each project like Iām used to, just focusing more on the guide lines and not straying away from the path. I always wanna make sure my work doesnāt just look nice but captures the eye and it visual appealing and really speaks not just to me but hopefully to the viewers as well; an āartisticā statement. In this past weeks reading for ARTS 102 something Pierre di Scuillo stated spoke out to be, āmy goal is often to delight the eye and stimulate the voice.ā This statement is close enough to the goal that Iāve set for myself. The picture I paired with this post is some stuff Iāve been working on since last. The top ones are from color and composition, which Iām throughly enjoying as well. Iām getting to create beautiful colors from scratch and how colors work together. Definitely will help when it comes to painting. But I included these two because before starting a project used my iPad first to create the color hues; kind of like a guideline before I used real paint. I used illustrator just as I am in this class as well. Just shows also how technology has evolved and become so useful in art. The bottom picture are projects (somewhat done) from this class ARTS102, the left was our last project, project number two. Which was create a typographic abstraction that would eventually become a collaborative piece with the class. I followed the guidelines, but I definitely believed I could of pushed it more; something as simple as either changing the typeface or zooming in close to one spot. But I believe I did well and I had fun with it, definitely bothered my ocd a bit. A part of the reading talked about typographic and logos, so I found something they Mark Fox said about symbols, ā a symbol suggest rather that depicts;it represents not only itself, but also some large, external narrative.ļæ¼ā he had a bunch more to say about logos, symbols, typographic etc; that i felt really fit with this project. Last screenshot in the right is a project we just started, just some sketched thumbnails for the GoTv + the great idea poster; I chose the quote that follows the guideline , āour lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matterā by MLK. I felt it spoke to myself personally and was the best to pick for this project tying into the next election and going out and voting. I got kinda stuck on the thumbnail sketched , so im hoping more idea will come to be soon enough. #arts102

Stepping into ARTS 102 on the first day was super exciting, I previously had taken one graphic design class and absolutely loved it, but sadly lost all that I learned and never kept up with it besides adobe illustrator. The first project was with photoshop and creating two project of a 6 word memoir. Photoshop is not my favorite thing in the world, the technology aspect confuses me. But I took a deep breath and dipped my toes into the water. My first memoir really spoke to me, āshe canāt pick a favorite colorā. I am a very indecisive person, It takes forever for me to make a decision. Especially when it comes to picking a favorite color, it changes every time someone asked me, because there is so many on the spectrum then just the basic red, yellow, blue. I wanted the words to stick out so I decided on making the font bold and adding some color opposite on the wheel to each other. The second memoir, āno sound in a empty forestā I wanted the words to flow with the image itself, I couldnāt figure out how to make the font curved; using my iPad and pencil I wrote out each letter by hand making sure they flowed the way the image did.it was a stressful process cause Iāve very particular and a perfectionist. I also decided on placing the words āemptyā over the individual in the image, as I felt it really tied with the memoir. The rest of the images are of a collage I made in the stairwell of my home and in my bathroom. I have so much artwork and a lot of wall space and I decided on the collage to articulate who is living in the home using just imagery. Like Stephen Doyle said, āso public and private, (i.e. his home) art and design are all woven together.ā I first had to decide how I was gonna display the poster because I had so many, especially copies of my famous artworks. My roommate who happens to be my sister isnāt has enthusiastic about artwork as I am, so I took all my works of art and started at the top. Then I took all the posters that werenāt related to art and placed them at the bottom of the staircase. I worked my way from each end placing the posters accordingly to the flow of the wall and to make sure the posters didnāt fall too close or directly on top of each other, āgraphic designers combine words and pictures to convey a messageā(Micheal Bierut). Once I got to the middle the posters flowed, because my art interfered with the other posters and tied together (mona lisa isnāt Mona Lisa). For my bathroom I just place my artwork that Iāve created through the years, mostly mixed media on canvas and hung them randomly around the wall, kind of like my own studio with my artwork on display, āThe key word is to bring passion to everything you doā(Arnold Schwartzman). I wanted myself to also be expressed. To sum up the reading for these ātwoāweeks was definitely interesting, hearing from different types of graphic designers and professional graphic designers who have created amazing pieces and their methods of how they go about obstacles and navigate through the art world and technology world and make art and good art for themselves and their clients. I am even more excited to continue on to week 3 in ARTS 102.
