hello everyone! one of the barriers for getting into using anki is that making your own cards can be super super tedious. so if you're not ready to do that quite yet, here's some tools that can help you out. this is really geared to language learning, for other subjects definitely check out ankiweb because it has a ton of stuff for you
memrise2anki: lets you take memrise courses and turn them into anki cards
quizlet to anki importer: the same thing, but for quizlet
pull from duolingo: just like the last two, but takes the words from your currently active language and turns them into cards. only pulls cards you already know
migaku dictionary: puts a dictionary into your anki for whichever language you'd like - when you look up a word, it'll immediately let you make a card out of it and its definition and then you add sentences for context. chrome users can use the related extension for faster card making -- it also lets you use youtube and netflix & their subtitles and will take a recording of the video / audio to put into your card. i am using this now (without the extension, i'm a firefox user) and it's made things so much faster
ankiweb - people have probably already made decks for your tl, you can search here for whatever you'd like. commonly studied languages will have more specialized decks (and there are also non-language related decks here, if you're trying to get into something like history or geography!)
xefjord's complete language series: i've been following this guy for a while, he's been working on making a ton of anki decks for lots of different languages. check here for your tl, a lot of them come with audio

DEAR RESEARCHERS OF TUMBLR
You know what’s awesome?  Research.  You know what’s not awesome?  Not being able to get access to research because it’s stuck behind a paywall and you don’t belong to an institution/your institution doesn’t subscribe to that particular journal.
FEAR NOT.
Here is a list of free, open access materials on a variety of subjects.  Feel free to add if you like!
GO FORTH AND LEARN SHIT, MY FRIENDS.
Directory of Open Access Journals- A compendium of over 9000 journals from 133 countries, multilingual and multidisciplinary.
Directory of Open Access Books- Like the above, but for ebooks.  Also multidisciplinary.
Ubiquity Press- Journals covering archaeology, comics scholarship, museum studies, psychology, history, international development, and more.  Also publishes open access ebooks on a wide variety of subjects.
Europeana-  Digital library about the history and culture of Europe.
Digital Public Library of America- American history, culture, economics, SO MUCH AMERICA.
Internet Archive- In addition to books, they have music and videos, too.  Free!  And legal!  They also have the Wayback Machine, which lets you see webpages as they looked at a particular time.
College and Research Libraries- Library science and information studies.  Because that’s what I do.
Library of Congress Digital Collections- American history and culture, historic newspapers, sound recordings, photographs, and a ton of other neat stuff.
LSE Digital Library- London history, women’s history.
Wiley Open Access- Science things!  Neurology, medicine, chemistry, ecology, engineering, food science, biology, psychology, veterinary medicine.
SpringerOpen-  Mainly STEM journals, looooong list.
Elsevier Open Access-  Elsevier’s kind of the devil but you might as well take advantage of this.  Mainly STEM, also a linguistics journal and a medical journal in Spanish.

How to not hate studying
Making study time a relaxing experience is the ultimate hack to detach the stress/obligation factor from it and start learning in a pleasing way
Start early: when the deadline is far enough to not worry, that’s when it’s the perfect time. Timing will either add or susbtract anxiety.
Silence: white noise or classical tracks at a low volume can make a peaceful session but silence will give you a sharper focus. Try gradually transitioning into it if you need to.
The spot: this is up to you. I found i can concentrate best in a spot at home next to a window where i get plenty of natural light and i can see the backyard full of greenery.
Snacks: find what you like best and enjoy whilst studying. Remember to stay hydrated and that apples are great to boost your brain.
End your session when you finish a chapter: since i’ve been doing this it feels like a higher accomplishment and makes it clear when its over so you can relax afterwards. Also the next session will feel fresher and more organized right from the begining.
Reward: you dont have to do anything spectacular for it. Even just saying to yourself “i’m proud of you for this” is just enough.
These made the biggest difference early in my college journey. Hope it’s helpful!

Courses in Russian online
Hi, babes.
A couple of days ago I found the official site of Pushkin Institute and it’s awesome. It is translated into several languages, e.g. English, Chinese, German, Spanish and others.
There are Russian courses for students of any level.
Tumblr media
There are also lots of courses in Russian, for example, a course on cooking the Russian way, modern Russian art, Old Church Slavonic course and many other topics. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are subtitles for these courses and the courses themselves are in Russian, so I’d recommend them to people with B1+.
And here you can take a test to assess your level of fluency.
There’s also a site for children here. It has very simple materials so it might be suitable for A1-A2 levels. Here are words by themes and here is a little video on verbs of motion and here - on types of verbs.
