As 2019 comes to a close and 2020 is about to begin, I’m going to be considering how to move the roleplay forward in the new year. I know it says that no fcs are banned, but what are your feelings on using poc faces for highborn characters? None of the known houses in asoiaf are non white, minus the Martells, so I want to know if I would be able to play a non white high born character in this universe.

We very much welcome highborn characters being portrayed by fcs of color! In fact, we already have several characters in-play being portrayed by fcs of color. We only ask that you consider any in-game relations’ ethnicity before applying so that they match.

LOVE ACTUALLY –  WESTEROS STYLE

It’s the holiday season in modern-day Westeros. 

Snow has begun to dust the cobbled streets and all the residents of Westeros find themselves pulling their coats that little bit tighter around them. The time for celebrating with friends and family grows near, peace on earth having held true for countless years. Under the now long established political system where each and every citizen can vote, the country has begun to flourish with Kings Landing establishing itself as the government’s headquarters and Oldtown emerging as the new metropolitan hub. 

Businesses and the rich have thrived under the rule of President Lannister but now many are calling for change and a new challenger is emerging in the form of one Tybolt Crakehall. But for all talks of the election have dominated the media for the past few weeks, the holidays promise to provide a break from it all. The holiday spirit is contagious, felt in everything from the buzz of a text invitation to that little bit of extra kindness that goes around. A time for all to unwind, relax and be thankful for what they have.

LOGISTICS

We highly encourage you to create sideblogs (they may be multimuse if you like) for your characters in this modern-day AU. There is a channel in the discord chat for you to post your blog links so that no one is missed!

The basic premise for this AU will be set during December in Oldtown and King’s Landing, but you are more than welcome to have your character(s) travel elsewhere if you’d like. We ask that your characters remain in Westeros, however. For those of you who have characters with family members in the rp, we ask that you communicate to make sure everyone is on the same page.

This event will run until January 3 and you may continue roleplaying your other threads on your main blogs during this time if you so choose. Activity checks will not resume until 2020 and you can have all of your characters participate or just one or two – it’s up to you!

If you are posting an open starter for this event, please do not use the regular starter tag. Instead, please use the tag: chaosaustarter. 

As always, we are happy to answer any questions, but if you have questions that are pressing regarding this event, we’d ask that you approach us on discord as you’ll likely get a timelier response that way.

THE STORY SO FAR

Sylva grew up knowing it was her that would one day inherit her father’s keep, and though as a child that brought her pride, it soon waned with a taste of reality. Her mother had been raised at Lemonwood near Dorne’s main port and often gave counsel in the court of the Martells on logistics and trade affairs. As a result, Sylva was usually taken with her to Sunspear and more of her childhood memories occurred in the wondrous halls of the palace there and under the fronds of the Water Gardens than back home at small, dark, sandy Spottswood where it seemed torture to be taken when her mother made short trips back. She ached to stay where she was always, with her friends and her mother and time to do whatever she wished whenever she wished it. Over these long stints at Sunspear, she grew close to Princess Arianne in particular, who shared her every thought and secret in her childhood. It was rare for someone as flighty as Sylva to give much respect to anyone, but Arianne more than earned it over their years together, and it became apparent as Sylva grew older that she would do most anything for the Princess should she ask. 

The death of Robert Baratheon changed very little for Sylva, whose routine of lazing about Sunspear entertaining her follies was not affected in the slightest. Her house was small, and tucked snugly away behind the sands of Dorne where war cannot reach, and so she lived in ignorant bliss. Her family in Spottswood welcomed another child, an unexpected baby sister for Sylva that she suspects was a reaction to her complete lack of interest in her duty, and though the weight of that hurt, she could not be too upset at essentially getting what she wanted. Life went on as usual - until, of course, the Baratheon princess was sent Sunspear and quickly wound her way into the fabric of Dorne. Sylva had heard the stories, of the Lannister twins and the parentage of those children, and she wanted so desperately to hate Myrcella when she came. Where she could, she stayed away, but as Arianne grew closer to the girl, Sylva realised that she was far more than some guest to be avoided. Arianne saw a ruler in her, and though it took some time, Syvla did too. Though the lands outside of Dorne can offer very little to her, she has come north with Arianne for amusement publically, and to support the princess in her plans to meddle in the affairs of the Iron Throne. Those are, after all, higher and more exciting stakes than anything she might hope for at home in Spottswood.

HEADCANONS

Sylva is very proficient with a sword, a skill she picked up at Sunspear to make use of the long hours with only her own whims to entertain. The master-at-arms had been happy to teach her, such a quick learner as she was, and though her skills are knife-sharp she maintains that they are just for show, and would never dream of entering into any battle which she believes is far beneath her. 

Though her father is willing to turn a blind eye to the woman his daughter has become, he has a threat he very much likes to inflict when things go too far - marriage. In particular, to the aging Lord of Estermont who is Syvla’s father’s old friend - he squired for him in his youth, and though Sylva is sure her mother would never allow it, it remains a firm threat that makes Sylva sick to her stomach, but does nothing to deter her from the way she lives or acts. 

Her taste is decidedly Dornish. She likes Dornish wine and Dornish silks, Dornish people and Dornish food. Sylva takes pride in where she comes from, and reserves a cautious curiosity for those hailing from outside her homeland. To be travelling north with Arianne is in equal parts daunting, and fascinating and most days Syvla can be found darting between the camps looking for people to amuse her.

Hi everyone!

We just wanted to make you aware of a few things with the holidays coming up.

Our last acceptance of this year for new members will be today’s acceptance at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (we will accept reserves but they will only last for 24 hours). Our last acceptance for new characters of current members will be this FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. This is because of an event that will be running through the rest of the holiday season.

Starting this SUNDAY, we will be running an AU event set in modern-day Westeros. The parameters of the event will be posted at 2 p.m. Eastern Time/7 p.m. GMT on DECEMBER 16. We encourage you to embrace your character’s life in the modern world and to make new sideblogs [they can be multimuse] if you’d like to! We’ll be creating a channel in the discord for you to post your new blogs so that everyone can be followed as easily as possible.

During this time, you’re more than welcome to continue your current threads, but we won’t be running activity checks and we will not be accepting any new characters. We will begin accepting new characters again in 2020.

THE STORY SO FAR

The only daughter, and youngest child, of Paxter Redwyne and Mina Tyrell, Desmera lived a mostly idyllic childhood in The Arbor. Though not close with her brothers, she did not mind, having always preferred books and drawing to politics and horsemanship. A great many weeks were spent in Highgarden, nearly as many as in The Arbor, and she was thankful to have a large family, even if she was not overly close to one member in particular. Desmera had always been a practical child, with an aloof nature that bordered on coldness on even her best days. Only her family could pull a true smile from her lips. She had always known that her marriage would be important, but was surprised when her father agreed to marry her off to a minor Stormlord’s heir; oh well, she supposed he had his reasons. Her husband agreed to stay in The Reach for a time and they were content enough, Desmera’s personality making the partnership easy to navigate. 

When King Robert died, however, the succession was plunged into chaos and her cousins began playing the Great Game. Desmera was content enough in The Arbor, though she began to learn more about running the keep in case something happened to her brothers, who now acted as captains in the Redwyne Fleet. When her goodfather died and her husband was declared Lord, he began to prepare to leave The Reach for his homeland, believing it his duty to back King Stannis, regardless of the crimes Stannis committed against his own people. Desmera was hesitant to go and she only wept once when her husband’s body was found on the banks of The Mander. Since then, she has been invaluable to her father as her brothers travel with the Fleet and has also done her best to be a comforting presence to her cousins, though it is difficult for one as aloof as her to do. Her ambitions are not nearly so large as the Tyrells’, but Desmera has her grandmother’s mind for politics - if not the interest for it - and often picks up on details others miss.

HEADCANONS

There is nothing Desmera believes in as much as she believes in her family. Some would say that her loyalty is blind, but she does not care. Without her family as a foundation on which to stand, she would likely be living in the Stormlands, fearful for her life on a daily basis. Desmera would not let a word of censure publicly pass her lips, but in private she does not hold back her opinions. 

Desmera is a stickler for courtesy; after all, social mores are the backbone of society and without them, society would descend into anarchy. She constantly uses the proper forms of address and even her closest friends and family call her by her name only in private.

She is recently widowed. Though she was married rather young, Desmera lived in the Reach with her husband, an minor lord from the Stormlands as it was not so safe to travel. When Stannis began sacrificing people to the Red God, her husband spoke of going back to the Stormlands to support him. It was a blessing when he was found dead weeks later.
