I’ve never been able to satisfactorily explain what my chronic pain actually feels like. I used words like burning, stabbing, crushing, electric, etc. And all of those words are true, accurate, descriptions of an aspect of my pain, but those words, even when used all together don’t encompass the lived experience of my pain. There is no word for the loneliness and isolation of chronic illness, but that feeling - that no one around me really understands what I’m experiencing because they haven’t experienced it themselves, and I hope they never will - is part of the pain. I’ve been trying for 15+ years to find a way to describe what CRPS actually feels like, and I have never managed it successfully.

Oh, this is one we haven’t seen much for! It sounds like post-frostbite symptoms look a lot like RSD/CRPS, though, so you might find more success searching under those conditions, or at least the umbrella category of neuropathy.

Some advice from a CRPS spoonie with the same type of symptoms, which are in her feet:

If it’s in an area you cover with some kind of clothing, try different types of fabrics to see which are most tolerable.

Use hot packs, reusable or disposable. Hand warmers and foot warmers are both great.

CBD salves can help a lot and there are plenty that are legal anywhere in the US and in many other countries! She uses The Fay Farm’s Healing Hemp Lotion, which Editor Diane reviewed a while back, right here.

owns so many hoodies. could wear a different one every single day for 2 weeks, but pretty much just cycles through the same 3 or 4

also loves cardigans, but doesnt wear them as often cuz he gets lowkey teased for dressing like a grandpa

A sleep schedule where ninja naps don’t attack me? I kid. A cure for my CRPS. That’s it. I don’t need the other two wishes. I miss being able to open doors and stand for long periods of time. I miss my old self. While I enjoy my wheelchair accessories and I can use my cane as a weapon... Just take my CRPS back. It’s painful and the medication is cutting my lifespan. There was so much I wanted to do. With time and energy, I might get to do some of them. I wanted to travel. I wanted to do something fun for a job. It doesn’t need to be a flashy career. It just has to be something where I don’t wake up and regret it. Like I actually miss customer service? Mostly because I worked in shoes and the kid’s department... And I’m so tired of having pain hold me back from doing what I want to do. I don’t need all the wishes. I can have all I want on my own if my CRPS goes way. Geeze what a downer answer.
