[Light Installation]

chaudhuriARCHITECTS have just read a new installation by lighting designers Speirs + Major is set to open in Allies and Morrison’s Kings Cross tunnel later this week.

"The installation, entitled HALFLIFE, will use light to ‘synthesize a digital journey through light and colour' "

The installation will be open to view between 6:30am and 8:30pm from 6 March.

[Christmas _Card]

Leading up to Christmas chaudhuriarchitects used their creativity to develop the office's annual christmas card. (See the images above) The idea behind the card was to turn the obvious Christmas tree pattern into a new contemporary 3d form to reflect the practices ethos. The tree is cut into the card and forms the undulating tree like surface whilst the companies logo has been used as the base formed from a cut square. The red back ground then forms the colour to the new opening.

The remaining images represent the Price & Myers Engineers Christmas card. The design if formed around a lazer cut piece is held delicately over an embossed design below with a recent company project carefully printed in gold to the rear. This was our favorite Christmas card this year and we thought it deserved a few images on the #CABLOG.

chaudhuriARCHITECTS have been working on producing a model to reflect their latest scheme in the Northamptonshire countryside. The Gif image above is a deconstructive timelapse of our interactive model showing the spaces within the refurbishment and extension of the family house scheme.

[Office _Timelapse].gif

This video was compiled during the harsh winter months of early 2014/ The video has layed dormant for much of the year in one of our many files. The compilation shows a [time-lapse] of the office during a days activities in forward motion. The scene is set within an architects surrounded by the files of past, completed projects. This is contrasted by the fast forward nature of the compilation showing a timely movement into the future. The video is by Peter Cook - link to vimeo feed is shown here:

Work Experience

We offer people who contact the office the opportunity to carry out an agreed time of work experience. This is both a valuable period for building a CV and learning the types of terminology used within the construction industry. We offered Kudzai Chirimuuta a week of experience to see how to operate in the office environment as a team and deal with clients, not forgetting how to create our project scheme drawings.

We had a great week and we hope she saw all aspects of the office during this time.

Thanks you to Kudzai for being a great architectural assistant.

Martin Creed Exhibition [Hayward Gallery]

During the summer, Peter visited the Martin Creed exhibition which was exhibiting at the Hayward Gallery along the Southbank of the River Thames. The exhibition showed Martin Creed's collective habits and obsessive nature of organising and separating regular items into orderly linear patterned compilations using colour to distinguish each row or column. The exhibition was both fun and moving with interactive installations allowing the user to be within the ordered and captive collection of pure white balloons.  See the images of the exhibition above.

Gorgonzola Cheese

Our principal Architect, at the office, brought in a large Gorgonzola cheese for the office to enjoy in the afternoon. All the team got involved and gave us an opportunity to have some time to socialize  and take our minds of our work during our busy afternoon creating drawings for our various projects.

As usual there was very little left resulting in piles of crumbs littering the cheese board. Here are some images from the afternoon downtime.

A film from the perspective of an urban commuter.

Through time lapse photography the film depicts the passing of time as well as the urban dispositions of people passing the motionless camera, whilst on a busy route through Angel, Islington_London.

Halloween is close and chaudhuriARCHITECTS had some very spooky samples sent over from France of stretched tensile fabrics.

The translucent samples make for some interesting effects.

'Constructing_Architectures'

chaudhuriARCHITECTS’s recently completed a film 'Constructing_Architectures' deriving from the 'AAJournal21'.

The film looks at Mark fisher who was a well documented architect and performance installationist behind some of the world largest theatrical events. The AA documented his death with a double page spread dedicated to his work and scholarship. The film shows the reconstruction of his 'Animals' album release installation printed within the AAjournal21 journal. 

The film aims to show how a 2d design can manifest into 3-dimentional forms with the simple folding of shapes with sheet materials. We wanted to show how his works are still being made into performance art and continually interacting, recycled and reconstructed.

EASTER EGGS...in August

Its August and we're back blogging.

Since Easter we have been very busy at chaudhuriARCHITECTS. Notably Mara Dumitru, from the office, had visited her home country of Romania and returned with a number of traditional gifts.

Besides members of the office eating a number of chocolate eggs, Easter egg decoration is a common activity undertaken in Romanian Easter culture said to signify regeneration and purification depending on the colourings used. Mara presented the office with a series of patterned, hand painted egg shells each identifiable by their colourings, design and individuality.

The most impressive feature of this traditional hand made craft work is the fragility of each design. The materials used to create the shell designs is coloured wax and a traditional pastern painting implement.

[02] Parabolic Bi-Folds

In the second of chaudhuriARCHITECTS folding experimentation's one of the team have been looking into 'Parabolic Bi-Folds' through the use of forward and reverse folding in a diagonal intersections whilst making linear cross folds to break the diagonal folds. The overall effect creates this bi-folding parabolic structure. The aim of the studies are not to create interesting and provocative sheet membranes structures, but to follow on from these examples in creating more complex geometries from these simple methods of folding in diagonal and linear fashions. 

We look now to creating/fabricating these ideas through wall facade designs.
