10 years ago today we brought home a new member of the family. Chosen by my mum, my dad and me a couple of weeks earlier, we spent most of the journey home worried about how she'd settle in, after an induction talk about how it can sometimes take days, if not weeks, for them to settle. In what would become True Willow Fashion, she ran straight through the house, into the garden, and back in to jump on the settee and demand attention. She hasn't stopped demanding it since. In the last decade my mum and I have been through a lot. There have been days where we have barely made it through, and it would be no exaggeration of me to say that without this pooch there were probably days where we wouldn't have done, if she had not been there to fuss, to cuddle, to love. She has been a rock, a constant in our changing lives, and I never knew I could love an animal as much as I love her. She is getting on now (about 15 years old), and we are learning to cherish the time we have with her. She has inspired in me a lifelong passion for dogs, and animals in general, and wherever the next year's take me, I will always be taking a part of her along, for the rest of my life.
