I am ready to sacrifice everyone but you replenish your gas just in case, only you
I am ready to sacrifice everyone but you will stay out of battle against humanity’s biggest threats so far because your leg is injured (we ride on horses and fight in flight)
I am ready to sacrifice everyone and myself (so that you have a chance to fight the Beast and survive)
I am ready to sacrifice everyone but somehow you’re always the safest, funny how that works

Thinking back to my Erwin is autistic head canon, I can't shake the feeling that he gets hung up on things (to no ones surprise, the basement, duh) and has to approach it at all sorts of angles. He must completely exhaust himself on the topic before he is satisfied with all the information learned and skill obtained. Thinking that as a child, this would have partially, if not fully, ruled him. The image comes to mind of him maybe taking books apart to figure out how they work, how they are bound and put together, which gets his father to deliver him a discussion about respecting books, and that he can't just go taking things that don't belong to him and taking them apart without asking and getting permission first. Perhaps even a stack of older books, maybe worn duplicates, are left quietly for him to tinker with.
Very specifically, I think as an older kid but not yet a cadet, maybe a little bit before he lost his father, Erwin got really fascinated with the idea of dominant hands. Curious, he asked his father about statistics of left handedness, followed by if using your left hand is evil (something he had heard the neighborhood kids spouting about before), and came to the conclusion by his father's humored responses, that he was going to change his dominant hand.
All that to say, is I have seen it use as plot points to include in fix it AUs where either Erwin survived or within that pocket of time before the RTS arc where he is down his right arm; he is often depicted to be withdrawn and struggling to cope with working with his left, presumably non dominant, hand. I think it would be quite humorous for Levi to walk in a day or two post arm loss to find Erwin not at all resting but instead writing in bed with his makeshift lap tray turned lap desk. Levi goes over to scold him and take the work away when he finds Erwin's handwriting to be impeccable, dare he admit even neater (somehow) with an elegant slant. Levi's gaze looks pretty blank to the untrained eye, but Erwin can detect a distinctive how at the raise of a single eyebrow followed by a why as the lifted one settles and pulls together slightly at the middle. A nod and small smile are presented as Erwin turns to face the standing figure beside his bed, allowing his Captain to slowly retrieve the items and put them on a surface off to the side, and out of the way as Erwin offers his stump towards Levi, and he begins to make quick work of changing out his bandaging. He is only offered a brief response to his two silently asked questions.
"I thought having one dominant hand was foolish as a boy."
Levi clicks his tongue in response and continues his work in comfortable silence, thinking to himself what am I going to do with you? What am I going to do without you?

I truly truly believe that the most important thing you can do in fandom is be a cheerleader. comment on fics. reblog art and rave in the tags. support the people making the things you want to see. this is how you keep a fandom alive. this is how you get more of what you want. you never know: that person could have decided to make more just because you liked it.

My favourite and most underrated moment of Erwin’s cunning is his ridiculously brutally honest speech at the recruitment ceremony.
He tells the cadets all about the survival rates and the future goals of the Survey Corps. He even (shockingly) admits that reclaiming Wall Maria is now a secondary goal, a stepping stone on the road to his real priority — the Jaeger basement. But, of course, he doesn’t tell the truth just to be transparent.
Then why? Armin suspects that he has an ulterior motive but cannot figure it out. That is because he is starting with the assumption that Erwin wants to recruit soldiers.
Tumblr media
At this point Erwin already knows that there are traitors among the cadets. So his speech has two goals: lure in the spies and reduce the number of new recruits, so that they have less people to suspect.
It appears by the time Annie was caught, only Eren, Mikasa, Armin and Jean were fully cleared from suspicion. The rest of the 104th cadet corps were sent away to Wall Rose to be supervised by Squad Miche.

I fear I may have phrased it wrong. I didn’t mean that Levi is cruel or arrogant. I meant that when he gets angry and starts threatening people, he deeply misunderstands how he comes off.
Levi doesn’t know how much fear is too much. He values life and because of that often lacks the understanding that some people would rather choose death instead of whatever he’s suggesting. He is intimidating as is, and his threats make him come off as cruel and his opponents desperate. Which is why, coming from him, this tactic of hollow threats often achieves the opposite of their intended effect. His opponents do not cover in fear and comply, but gamble their lives on the chance of getting away from him.
That is not because he is not smart but because he is too strong. In that way, he is the opposite of Jean. Marco said that Jean’s weakness is his strength because it makes him understand how weak people think. And in that way, Levi’s strength is his weakness because it clouds his understanding of the limits of fear.
It’s so funny to me that Levi has only one flaw as a soldier and that is not knowing when to shut up. As he told Zeke:
Tumblr media
So when he has his opponent neutralised, he likes to savour their helpless and starts running his mouth.
This is what Erwin exploits in ACWNR manga. While he can’t win a physical fight against Levi, he wins an argument with his wit and charisma and convinces Levi to join his side instead of finishing the job. This is what scares Annie off before the scouts can blow up her arms, which results in the failure of the whole expedition. This is what makes Levi underestimate Zeke and be maimed by the thunderspear explosion.
Time and time again it happens, and yet Levi never learns because he is the strongest and no one is bold enough to criticise him

Love how interdependent eruri character arcs are. Levi’s story wouldn’t have started without Erwin and Erwin’s story wouldn’t have ended without Levi. They would’ve been very different people without each other.

For me, the most moving thing about Midnight Sun and Levi’s choice is how in such a high-stakes situation with everyone talking about Devils and Saviours and Leaders and the Fate of Humanity, trying to quantify the worth of life, Levi is able to see Erwin and Armin as just human. Just people, slaves to something, just like everyone else, deserving of mercy and dignity. Erwin who has carried the weight of the world on his shoulders and Armin who will have to take it from him, and thus from generation to generation this burden passes.

The amount of hate out there directed towards Gabi makes me so sad, because I understand her.
Gabi is a little girl is a world full of hatred. She has learned that what she is, what she was born as is bad. That the world hates her for nothing more than what she was born as. She's been fed this propoganda her entire life.
I painfully understand her. Because as a teenager girl I was a pick me. I'm not proud of it and I of course grew out of it and regret it but good god I understand how young girls fall into that mindset. Because when the whole world is telling you that you are less valuable because of how you are born how can you not desperately claw at the things that make you different? Respectable? HUMAN.
When you're raised hearing your own father constantly making remarks about how women aren't logical or smart or funny. How women are weak. How we have a certain role in society. When you see the way the men in your family treat women, hear the way they speak about them, come to understand the way you are viewed by the world. How can you not be desperate to escape that? So you cling to the idea of being different. Because you know you're a human being, with thoughts and feelings and capability. You have this propoganda shoved down your throat so much that you start to believe it. And so you other yourself. You aren't some shallow, thoughtless little girl, you're a person with thoughts and value.
You aren't vapid. You have a whole entire internal universe. You are human.
And this is what patriarchy and oppressive systems do, they pit us against each other so we don't band together and challenge these dominant social ideologies.
That is what Gabi is doing. She's just a little girl who's had hatred for what she is, something completely out of her control, jammed down her throat.
She's had the whole world telling her something about her is innately wrong.
So when she finds a distinction, a way to claim her own humanity by othering the BAD versions of what she is, the 'bad' examples, she latches onto that ideology. She's been conditioned to.
That little girl had no hope. No education or internet access to come accross ways to unlearn the propoganda. She only had what she had been raised to believe.
Then she goes to Paradis and everything she's ever been taught is thrown into question. This is hard. It's a learning process. It's hard to realise everything you have based your identity, everything you thought you knew is wrong.
But she learns and she does better.
She hurt people in the process and those people never have to forgive her, but she has made those actions, she has said those things and she has to live with that. She has to grow from that.
This does not make her eternally irredeemable.
I was devastated by the death of Sasha as well but the hate for Gabi goes so far beyond her killing Sasha.
She is a flawed human being, who was raised in a flawed society, learning to be better.
And isn't that what any of us are?
Eren gets more love than her and he literally commited genocide. And he has the same qualities: The passion. The anger. The crash outs. And yet he received half the hate she does.
Idk I just really like Gabi. I get her. She's such a realistic character.
I appreciate her character arc.

I'll probably make a more cohesive, thoughtful post on this at some point, but can someone tell me what the hell is up with the ending of the anime version of A Choice With No Regrets being basically a character assassination of Erwin?
In the original VN story he's a little cold (or that's a result of the only available English translation being overly direct in the way it was translated), but in the manga I completely believe in the idea that Levi would WANT to follow Erwin by the end. But for some reason the anime writers decided to make the way Erwin talks to Levi less sympathetic and inspiring, but logical, and more... entirely abusive, and while that's not my only problem with the anime adaptation of that side story, it's the one that bothers me the most, because the manga version genuinely has some of the best characterization for Levi and Erwin in the series.

Can’t believe Isayama stated that Erwin would be ideologically opposed to the Jaegerists three separate times: the first time via Hange,
Tumblr media
the second time via Levi,
Tumblr media
and the third time he brought the man himself from the dead to say that he supported the Alliance,
Tumblr media
and there are still people out there arguing that he would have supported the Rumbling.
Because apparently they know better than the author. Unbelievable.

The moment I read the headcanon that Erwin is on the spectrum but heavily masked something clicked in my head and now I can’t stop thinking about it.
For instance, this manga panel now shines in a totally different light.
Tumblr media
So he’s been called weird and creepy since a young age, before anything traumatic happened to him.
He sometimes has inappropriate reactions, like smiling after finding out that titans are humans or laughing when Levi very seriously threatens to break his legs.
He has a special interest that is constantly reinforced by guilt and trauma of his father’s death.
In his close most trusted circle he surrounds himself with, frankly speaking, weird (or as Shadis called them special) people who go against social expectations: blunt Levi who says inappropriate shit without blinking an eye, loud and excitable Hange with thirst for knowledge rivaling his own, quiet Miche who sniffs people instead of small talk. In short, people who wouldn’t be driven away if he himself started acting weird.
Tumblr media
His conviction that he has fooled his friends, not just comrades, could be interpreted as him being uncomfortable with being so heavily masked. He called himself a conman, admitted he has fooled even himself, felt like he’s lying all the time. I bet a lot of people on the spectrum could relate.
Here’s an opportunity to yap about your favorite headcanons for any AoT character of your choosing ♥️
First of all, thank you for enabling me to yip yap about this. I sat on this ask for a bit because I wasn't sure who I wanted to pick. The way I come up with head canons is completely random. I'll just be sitting around and something comes to me. Other times I'll hear a song or have a fleeting thought and it will make me think of blorbo and I go from there. -cracks knuckles-
I mentioned this briefly in passing, likely in a reply on a post comment because I searched my blog to link back to the post, but I am coming up blank.
My number one favorite Erwin head canon is that he is on the autism spectrum. I think the moment it clicked for me was the scene when he snuck up on Eren and leaned in, breeching all personal space to ask something cryptic of him. It's easy to gloss over cos we often see him in a state of put togetherness. He's in charge, he is the commander after all, but this man is decently masked for the most part.
In either canon or AU I attribute his copious amounts of charisma as a learned trait. It doesn't come naturally, but he learned in his youth through his father and reading. Another one is Erwin is an avid reader, but that's more canon than head canon. He is shown to have a lot of books and I think implied that because his father was a scholar, a teacher, he through osmosis and because books were around he, he was always reading. He was definitely one of those kids with a super high reading level for his age. I like to think he very much preferred nonfiction books like self help and books teaching you about a skill, hobby or task to learn it. He was absolutely writing papers, annotating books and giving his papa impromptu presentations talking about his findings. He's a total nerd (affectionate) and craves knowledge. He is not a know it all, but he just likes to possess accurate information. Was a total stick in the mud during his cadet days, but Miche took him under his wing and helped level him out. Erwin is slightly cool due to Miche's influence. They balanced each other out. Nile was there too, and Hange when Hange wasn't goofing with Moblit.
More AU leaning head canons
I think Erwin likes classical music, stuff with instrumentation and no lyrics. He likely doesn't own a tv or if he does, isn't a big watcher of tv. I think he Does watch tv, but he is strategic about where he divides his time. He gets into trashy reality tv in cycles, when he wants a rest, a turn your brain off and just consume junk food but make it media.
Absolutely good at woordle, crossword puzzles, and sudoku. He collects fountain pens and inks. He keeps a journal. Levi (playfully) teases him and calls it a diary. He is just very into analog, or as analog as he can get. Has two phones. One for phone calls and text. The second phone he uses as an ereader and ipod. He Does stream music, but for all his favorites he does own on cd and or vinyl. Yes classical music, and stuff that trickles in from Levi's faves.
Eruri lives together, they have separate rooms. He was a little bummed at first but in practice he appreciates his own space and it's fun taking turns having sleep overs with each other. Erwin is a coffee guy, Levi a tea guy. They each have their own dedicated space on the counter in the kitchen for their beverage brewing stations. Erwin does drink tea, he finds blends he fancies. He learns how to make all of Levi's favorites to precision. Levi is so pleased, he enjoys making it himself, the ritual of it all but he can't deny how loved he feels when he wakes and his cup is made out and sitting on the mug warmer waiting for him. This is accidentally turning into Eruri. Sorry, I am a man and man is flawed.
Last little rundown of some rapid-fire traits I think he possesses
Bad dancer
Great singer
Magically never has bad morning breath
Prone to a bit of jealousy but good at hiding it
Ambidextrous
Over explains jokes
Super organized but misplaces small things often (fighting for my life to not make a Levi is short joke here)
Snores but lightly
Runs warm
Prefer showers, but will indulge Levi in a shared bath here and there
Absolute yapper
The driver (Levi is passenger prince)
First to say ily
