Prologue
“The waves rush upwards—violently—with all the anger of the seven seas. The water rages, crashing into sharp boulders and reclaiming all that the land has taken from it.”
Beyond the walls of the tiny home, heavy rain crashes on the windows. Noah burrows into the comfort of his blanket and tries to ignore the storm outside. His nightlight is open, casting a familiar yellow glow, and he’s wearing his favorite pajamas: dark blue and pilling with use. The rain can’t get to him here, not when his curtains are embroidered with goldfishes and his mom is right beside him with a book in her hand and a story on her lips.
“What happens next?” Noah whispers, wide-eyed and breathy.
His mother laughs, takes his hand and runs her thumb across his knuckles. “Our hero saves the day, of course.”
Noah’s lips tug upwards into a dimpled half-smile. His favorite part has always been when the hero saves the day.
“For a moment, the sea is silent. There lies nothing but quiet devastation, hopelessness that thrives in the muteness of the world.” The rain softens into a gentler drizzle. Noah’s blanket slips down. “Just before the silence breaks, water surges once again, but this time up—and up—swirling with the same power but somehow gentler, somehow kind, and instead of rushing up to the land and taking selfishly, mindlessly, the water gradually condenses into the form of a man, half of a man, at least. The other half is the silhouette of a tail, long like a serpent’s but with fins like a fish, and his hand holds a trident.”
“It’s Maximillian!”
His mother laughs. “Maximillian raises his trident. The sea rises up to meet his call. The land people stare at his absolute power, and they know he controls the seas. They know that the water is his, that only he can hold back nature’s wrath. The waves rush upwards, but now, they are saved.”
Hi! I’m starting up this blog as an outlet for my writing. I write short stories and poetry, but this piece is actually the working prologue for a longer story I’m planning to write which I’ll introduce sometime in the future. I’ll also be reblogging writing advice and photos/artwork that inspire me. I’m really excited to become part of the writeblr community, so go ahead and reply or like or reblog this, so I can follow your accs!!

“I’m a star! And the audience loves me. And I love them. And they love me for loving them, And I love them for loving me. And we love each other. That’s because none of us got enough love in our childhoods. And that’s showbiz, kid.”

Fantasy Guide to Royal Weddings
Yes, it has happened. Ms. Markle has married Prince Harry and it is a win for all. Or some shit like that. Fairytales don’t come true. Fantasy is the closest thing you will get to it.
In fantasy, Royal Weddings are not made for love. They are made for:
1. Alliances
Families marry their children to their allies or enemies to form an alliance. Marriages can be seen as a business merger, two companies coming together as one.
2. Acquisitions
Some marriages are made to gain something. Some spouses marry to gain money or lands or power.
3. Dynastic Reasons
Royal families or noble families sometimes marry certain spouses to continue bloodlines or to pass on a certain gene, let’s say a magic power or to pass on a right, like right to the throne.
4. Love
Yes, it does happen. Some marriages can be for love. Peasants even royalty will risk all for love. See the cases of Wallis Simpson and Elizabeth Woodville for ideas. Perhaps fairytales can come true.

Formatting your Manuscript
If you’re planning on one day turning your manuscript in to literary agents and publishing houses, you need to make sure it’s formatted correctly. In many cases, your manuscript will be skipped over if it isn’t done to industry standard, so here’s the basics that you’ll need if you don’t want to be ignored. Before I get started, please know that this is aimed specifically at fiction manuscripts. If you’re writing non-fiction or a memoir, the expectations will be different, so it would be wise to Google what you need.
The Basics
Make sure your font is 12 point Times New Roman, Courier New, or Arial. These are the only three fonts you are allowed to pick from.
Your spacing should be 1 inch on all sides of the text. This is the default on most word processors, but double check your settings just to be sure.
Your text should be double spaced.
All of your indentations must be a half inch. Do not press indent. Instead, drag over the top arrow on the ruler to have every new paragraph automatically indent.
The Title Page
The top left-hand corner of your title page will have all your personal information. They want to see your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, the novel’s genre, and word count.
Your novel’s title is allowed to be between 20-24 point font if you want. Bold is also an option, but not necessary.
The title will appear halfway down the title page.
“A novel by [your name]” will be about three quarters of the way down the page.
The Next Pages
If you have a dedication, it will be on its own page.
If you have some sort of verse or quote, those will also need their own pages.
Do not include a page for acknowledgements.
The Chapters
Chapter titles will be 12 point font. No bolding or italics.
Chapters will start from one quarter to halfway down the page.
An easy way to format chapter headings is to press enter five or six times
Make sure you always start your chapters the same way every time.
When you start a new chapter, make sure you use a page break to bump the new chapter onto a new page. This will keep it in place so that it will never budge, no matter how much you cut out or add to the previous chapter.
Page Numbers
Page numbers will start with 1 on Chapter 1 of your manuscript. Page numbers will not appear on the title page or dedication page.
Page 1 will be labeled in the footer of Chapter 1. It should be centered.
Page 2 will be in the header of the next page.
From page 2 onward, your headers will be labeled like this:
If you insert a section break after the title and dedication pages, it will make it easier to insert the page numbers.
For the most part, this is the most important of what you’ll need to know for formatting your manuscript. I used this video as reference, so I’m trusting everything it says is true because it was made by an author who has several novels published, and because it was uploaded this year, it should be up to date.
But just remember, whenever you go to turn in a manuscript, make sure you check the website of the agent or publisher you’re trying to contact. They might have specifications that differ with the ones stated in this video, and you should always do whatever you can to abide by what they want.
