I just realized that both Beyond Evil and The Devil Judge came out in 2021.
Kdramas really did say: you survived a pandemic, you deserve not one but two ‘barely in the closet by one toe’ dramas about righteous young idealists with daddy issues who come to take on morally ambiguous and charismatically unhinged daddies with horrific pasts and end up taking them on indeed. And on and on.
You know that whole “be gay do crime” thing? The dramas turned it into “be gay, do each other. And some crime on the side.”

Watching Pyramid Game has convinced me that no genre does gay like straight k-drama thrillers. They got me with The Devil Judge, bullied me with 5-second sapphics in Squid Game, then 5 more second sapphics in All of Us are Dead, shattered me into a million pieces watching Weak Hero Class 1, made me question my sanity watching Bloodhounds, got me again with Beyond Evil, then tried to circle the block with 3-second gays in The 8 Show. I think Pyramid Game might be the show that finishes me off. I've never behaved like this in my life.
Like there's a real queer friend group of girls lying on a roof calling each other ugly. There's no better representation than that.

the combination of an older, world-weary dilf working with a pretty young thing with round eyes and a puppy personality is so fucking elite. never change, homoerotic "bromance" dramas, never ever change

I think Beyond Evil is the perfect example why subtextual homosexual relationships are still so relevant and important today. By not making it explicit, it pays homage to a relationship dynamic that I think is very unique to queer media. It’s when creators circumvent censorship by elevating the intimacy between two characters a step above love and romance straight to devotion and madness. It really creates a sense of the cosmic nature of two people meeting who are about to change the entire trajectory of each other’s life without any explicit use of supernatural/sci fi elements. A soulmate AU that is not a soulmate AU. Whether it’s in comfort, shame or reverence it’s Han Juwon’s destiny to fall to his knees for Lee Dongsik, that is quite literally one of the ways he fulfills his characters arcs. sucking dick feels a little small change to me in comparison

Honestly episode 6 from Strangers from Hell is so funny because it's basically everyone in the studio going 'dude we fucking hate room 303 let's kill him' and Moonjo going 'why are u guys so mean to him 🥺' meanwhile Jongwoo is litteraly screaming in people's faces

Korean cinema really had a whole ass era where a pretty young thing with kylie jenner lips would meet a hot older mildly to fully corrupt man who would end up manhandling the fuck outta that twink and I really think we should return to that era
