The more I look at this ending for the CP9 cover story, the more convinced I am that they were originally meant to have a different role when they returned. There's too much symbolism here with the abandoned, upside down Justice ball, the planting of the flower they received for helping citizens on the island where they were trained, their previous promise to hunt down and kill Spandam.

What their role was meant to be, or if Oda even had a role in mind for them, is something only he can answer, but looking at this I can't help but be a little disappointed that they end up going back to the World Government. But sometimes a narrative gets too big for all the disparate elements to be neatly stitched together they way they should.

Some “lighting-practice-turned-fanart” of Rob Lucci from One Piece done on a post-it note with a regular HB pencil during some free time at work this morning. I wanted to do a more “realistic” approach.

The lights’s supposed to be coming from below, I hope I captured that well enough.

I took a pic and used Autodesk Sketchbook on my phone for some highlights and my signature.

I know she only exists as a running gag and a doodle of a headshot, but I'm fascinated by Yamanbako. I wanted to try and design what she might have looked like during her younger days!

To explain why I designed her the way I did, her name comes from Yamanba, refers to a particuler sub-culture of the ganguro fashion style, so I wanted to push that element rather then focus on the kabuki details so she'd resemble but still be distinctively diffrent to her son!
