Closing his eyes Jyuushiro shifted to lean his head on Kyouraku’s shoulder. “There were three Arrancar here. Two got away.” He shifted to hunch over and cough harshly, blood staining his fingers as he slumped back.

“Better that than they killed you,” Kyouraku soothed. “I’m glad you’re okay.”

“You were worried about me,” Jyuushiro accused. “I’m not gonna die that easily.”

“Good, because I’m not gonna let you.”

A loud crash sounded from inside. Startling, Naruto whirled to face the building.

“I’d guess he found her,” Itachi said in reply to the unasked question.

“How’d you figure that?”

He shrugged, “Her bingo book entry lists her as ‘flee on sight’. When two immovable objects meet, everything around Tsunade and Kisame stands to get destroyed.” Pushing away from the wall, Itachi turned to stride around the side of the building towards the commotion, a concerned Naruto following at a distance.

Finding Kisame’s chakra, Itachi paused and took a step back, stretching his good arm out to halt Naruto. “Huh? What n-AAAH!” Naruto yelped as the wall before them gave way, Kisame tumbling out and skidding across the dirt. “Kisame!”

“No, it’s fine, thank you.” Fumbling for his sword cane, Xerxes eased himself to his feet and accepted Thomas’s offered hand to exit the carriage.

“Are you well, Xerxes-sama?”

“I suspect I’ve just been over-exerting myself,” he dismissed with a forced smile. He normally didn’t need to lean on the cane, but now Xerxes found himself doing just that as he waved off further help from Thomas, thanked him for the journey and padded into the manor. By chance, Xerxes passed Shelly’s old lady-in-waiting, Ana, and asked her to bring an ice pack up to his room.

The little blonde haired girl beside the man blinked owlishly, cocking her head at Gilbert then twisted to look at her companion. "Do you know this man, Kevin?"

"Not at all, Miss," Kevin responded, shaking his head at her. More roughly he said to Gilbert, "I'm an only child. I'd ask that you not bother us any more, sir."

"You know where their home is?" said Ichigo with a flutter of his eyelids.

Groaning Rukia rubbed her forehead. "Yes, and you know way too much for a human," she griped. "How long have you been able to see spirits?"

"All my life." Ichigo turned to Tatsuki, "So who's the annoying pipsqueak and why are you in that get up?"

"She said she was a Shinigami," Tatsuki explained. "They help souls pass on apparently and fight Hollows?"

"Yeah I've heard about them," he confirmed at Tatsuki's furrowed eyebrows. "Starrk said he doesn't trust them an inch because they're not on friendly terms, basically."

"Makes sense. Anyway. She got hurt trying to help Orihime, so leant me her powers. At the moment I'm still stuck with them so she snuck in as a transfer student to coach me through doing her job part-time. These weirdos," she said pointing Starrk and Lilynette, "Were outside the school gate."

Eyes widening with understanding, Ichigo explained, "That's where I meet them for training. They don't usually come here."

Throughout the humans' exchange Rukia had been getting more agitated, muttering under her breath, "Oh I am so screwed!"

Ghidora roared in response. Joey looked up at the honengame, eager face and bright eyed, not a hint of irony in his expression.

"Uh,” Jounouchi said with a laugh. Ayakashi really did care only about food.

“Listen–” Tristan started, and his mouth snapped shut when the waiter arrived with the bill. Kaiba held out a black card without a glance. “I don’t have to take this shit from you.”

“No,” Kaiba said, signing his name across the bottom line, and he smiled up at him. “But we’ll see how you feel when I’m doing the whipping.”

“Aw, come on, Jounou.” The familiar nickname slipped from Hirutani’s mouth like oil. “We used to talk shit like that all the time.”

“We aren’t friends,” Jounouchi said. “Just because we used to be–”

His breath hitched in his throat. Categorizing his relationship with Hirutani was another spiny barb trailing blood from his heel. He’d been equal parts comforter and tormentor. How many times had Jounouchi done everything for him, just to leave with the taste of blood and spit and worse in his mouth.

“Nobu,” Kaiba Seto scoffed in Japanese as the hotel manager put in the combination for the vault door. “We fly to the other side of the world for sushi. We could at least get decent steak.”

“It’s an impressive name,” Noa answered with a scowl. “Our business associates will be wowed enough by that. It’s not always about what you want, Seto.”

California sunshine had warmed her complexion, and her dark hair fell down her back, the ends dip dyed with a dark blue. She’d never matched Seto in height, still standing a shoulder below him, which for most of their crew was still a head above anyone else. She grinned at the greeting party and elbowed her brother.

Each shattered glass burst with more flames, and Jounouchi shouted every time Seto smashed one, tossing his arms up in wonder. The entirety of the structure burned now, the fire pulsing around it as one great thing. Seto fell backwards into the sand and spread his arms out, still laughing. Destruction remained his finest asset. Like the sword doing the delicate cut work on his dinner, he had a singular tool, and he would wield it to his best.

Lol I'm not sure on exacts, I kinda fell for him like 15+ years ago?

Certainly what I like about him now is his personality, cute overly long sleeves and how he primarily likes to bother/tease the rest of the cast, but knows when to be serious.

I wish he was a full Baskerville/that we got to know the extent of what Children of Ill Omen can do, but mostly I'm just sad he didn't show up in the final chapter lol

I really like his arc of being an arrogant powerhouse who prefers to work alone and use people and by the end, he's relying on other people and asking for help/support
