Ukraine has again hit Russia's offensive air power capabilities.
The latest effort involves hitting a factory deep in Russia which produces Russian knockoffs of Iran's Shahed drones. The full extent of the damage to the factory is still being determined.
Russia says that the Ukrainian drones were shot down but the factory was set on fire by falling debris. This is not the first time we've heard an excuse like this. It sounds more like a face saving fig leaf for another failure by Russia.
Ukraine allegedly launched drones at Russia’s Tatarstan region, killing one and injuring 13, regional governor Rustam Minnikhanov reported on June 15. The Ukrainian drones were reportedly shot down, but the debris fell on a plant in the town of Yelabuga, where Russian Shahed-type attack drones are manufactured, causing a fire. According to Minnikhanov, it was an automobile plant, but some Telegram channels, including Astra, speculate that the well-known drone factory was the target. Ukraine's General Staff subsequently confirmed details of the strike, including that it was directed at Shahed-style drone production in Yelabuga. [ ... ] A video of the attack was shared on Telegram, showing smoke billowing over the town, which lies some 1,500 kilometers from Kyiv. There has been no official statement from Kyiv on the alleged strike, and the Kyiv Independent could not independently verify these claims. The so-called Alabuga Special Economic Zone hosts a factory producing Shahed-type long-range attack drones as well as other reconnaissance drones, and has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian forces since its launch in 2022. The factory aims to produce 6,000 Shahed-type drones a year, with each one estimated to cost as little as $20,000.
Even minor damage to the factory would slow down production.
The factory in Yelabuga is 787 miles/1,267 km from the Ukrainian border. That's about the air distance from NYC to Madison, Wisconsin or London to Madrid.

Perhaps you're thinking that Russia can just get more drones from Iran to make up for lost production. But Israel in its war with Iran apparently just bombed the Shahed factory in Isfahan.
Media: Israel destroys Shahed factory in Iran with airstrike
According to the Defense Express resource , the city of Isfahan is indeed home to a factory producing Shahed-136 drones, which Russia also uses for massive attacks on Ukraine. The coordinates of the facility, which is subordinate to the Iranian Ministry of Defense, are: 32.62264, 51.69310. The enterprise is located on the territory of a helicopter air base. There are also several other important military facilities nearby, including underground missile tunnels, air defense positions, and underground bunkers.
So directly or indirectly, June has not been a great month for Russia's military. Putin has fewer "cards" to play.

Today was one of the biggest russian air attacks on Kyiv.
Drones, ballistic and winged missiles were, as always, prioritizing "critical military infrastructure": student dorms, dozen on residential buildings and kindergarden.
As I'm writing this post, 18 people were injured, 1 dead, but it's likely will get higher soon. Russian missile destroyed entire section of building, likely burying people under it.
UPD: 15 dead, 115 - injured (68 - hospitilized)

Ukrainian defender after three years in russian captivity.
The same people who do this to us in the present - deny that the Holodomor ever happened.
The same country that holds POWs in death camps and kidnaps children to "re-educate" them - calls Ukrainians nazis.
And they get away with it.

‼️The Russians again carried out a night drone attack on Kharkiv - 12 people were injured, including 4 children.
From 1:00 to 3:00, the enemy struck the city with drones. 11 hits were recorded, in particular, in the Shevchenkivskyi, Slobidskyi and Saltivskyi districts, another UAV did not detonate.
Residential buildings, educational institutions, kindergartens, and infrastructure were hit. Dozens of cars were damaged, windows were broken. The children injured by the shelling were from 2 to 17 years old.
Several fires broke out, and in other places, debris fell near playgrounds. One of the drones damaged the elevator shaft of a high-rise building, another destroyed part of a non-residential building and a public transport stop.

Another loud and terrible night in Kyiv. The Russian Federation attacked the capital from different directions, using drones and two ballistic missiles. Unfortunately, this large-scale attack has resulted in human casualties, even one person was killed. The attack damaged 7 out of 10 districts of the Ukrainian capital. The air defense forces repelled the attack, but office and administrative buildings, shops, and residential buildings were also damaged.😔
Other Ukrainian cities, such as Boryspil and Odesa, also came under attack.
But the most brutal act today was a Russian drone attack on a maternity hospital in Odesa. Luckily, there were no casualties, but the fact that an agrarian state would target a hospital shows its inhumanity.❤️🩹

Have you made a lot of money from your brazen misinformation? When your last hour comes, will you take your money to the grave? – "Woe to the liars, the hypocritical, those who distort the truth, those who praise the unrighteous." "Only a liar who is also a hypocrite can be worse than a liar!" "Any violation of the truth is not only a kind of suicide for a liar, but also a blow to the health of human society" "Liars are the cause of all sins and crimes in the world" “Pigs are dirty, but I will tell you something dirtier: Liars! Untruth always smells like rotten garbage!”“A liar is a liar and lives on the lies he tells and dies in a life of lies.”…
Yes actually, I'm filthy rich. My pay per post is 1 billion hryvnias and a bowl of borscht. You do the math. I have no more place to store my hryvnias, send help.
Let's talk seriously. I'm assuming you're coming at me because of my last post. Now, I am not a journalist, not a media outlet, not even an influencer, I ran a shitty little tumblr blog where I can post whatever I chose.
So by all means, this is not a source of completely officially verified information. All I can guarantee to my followers is that I don't intentionally post any lies, but I am only human.
Let's be skeptical! The photo in my previous post was published only today, and although it was reposted by the official United24 account, we currently don't have the name of the person in the picture, nor do we know their full story.
Therefore, it absolutely has a potential to be fake. But where is the lie in the things I said? You want more material?
Following videos have been published by the russian barbarians themselves, open at your own risk, you won't be able to unsee it. These are the tortures that russians subjects each other to (I won't provide any video descriptions because it's vile): x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x
These are the results of a quick and lazy search. Many of these videos are very recent, some go way back. You have to keep in mind that this is what they chose to film and share, you can only imagine what goes unrecorded.
Now, these are videos of russians torturing or executing Ukrainian POWs: x, x, x, x, x, there is a video where russians decapitate Ukrainian POW with a knife but no one should look at it (trust me) so here's an article with the video description, also here, x, x, intercepted orders, x, x, x, x, x, x... and I can't search for these no more. I can't do this to myself.
You can simply google "russians torturing pows" and find enough articles with sources.
I have previously posted enough photos of exchanged Ukrainian POWs who look as if they came straight out of concentration camps.
Or, here's russian "rusich" group calls for the execution of Ukrainian POWS. Openly. aleksey milchakov from said "rusich" explains why it's "humane" not to take prisoners.
Where is the lie? Where did I lie? Don't bother replying.
If any of the photos I have shared previously were somehow fake - any of them - it does not negate the fact that the russians are open and proud war criminals, savages. It's their entire military doctrine, heavily influenced by the prison customs, btw. You can google "dedovshchina" as well, have fun.
None of what I said about russia was a lie. If anything, I am being way too careful with my words.

so russia has also been dismantling cultures and peoples within it’s borders?
That is so deeply upsetting to me that this could be news to anyone... Russia is an empire, a colonizer. You don't have to have a specialised deep knowledge in history or politics to recognize this simple fact. Empire does what empire does. You can literally just look at the map and see how much of russia is in Asia.
Invasion of Ukraine has been a great opportunity for putin to wipe out significant amounts of non-white russian population. This video is a great example. It's no rarity to find people of ethnicities like Nanai (estimated 12,003 left of them as of 2010), Yukaghir (1,802), and other smaller ethnicities in the trenches. Their languages and heritage die with them in this invasion. Yakuts are more of a rule than an exception on the frontlines at this point.
To play the devil's advocate - these nations are the majority in the war while being minorities at home, not only because they're not white or not "russian" enough, but because their regions are the poorest in russia. Now, why is that exactly, and why most of the money flows to the other regions instead of to, say, Yakuts or Kalmyks - this you can guess for yourself. But the fact is - these regions of russia are unbelievable shitholes even compared to the shithole that russia is in general. People there are uneducated, live in barely standing houses with no plumbing, some villages literally have no functioning bridges to connect them to civilization.
So, people of these ethnicities are eager to sign the contract and enroll into the russian terrorist army, because they see it as their lucky ticket in life. They are dying for russian interests, they are the backbone of the russian army, while the rest of the world imagines blond blue-eyed people as a standard in russia. It's really not.
I am not here to cry for them. Yes, they could behave differently under different circumstances. But they still have their free will, and to deny them their choices would diminish the dignity of those who were brought up under the same or worse circumstances, but didn't choose to go kill people in a foreign country to enrich themselves.

I wish that when people think of russia, they wouldn't think of ballet, dostoevsky, dolls, ushankas and balalaikas first. Destroyed cities, corpses in the streets, and this. This is russian "glory". It's not an exception, not a few rotten apples, it's what the russian world really is. Torture, death, degradation.
They do this to each other too - countless videos out there of what they do to their own soldiers who refused to obey: they bury them alive, tie them to cars and drag them on the ground, keep them tied to trees, naked, beaten, without food or water and urinate on them, etc. Pretty much any degrading, disgusting, and inhuman torture you can think of - they do it even to their own, record it and proudly post it on the internet.
Now imagine what they do to the "enemy", to Ukrainians in captivity… Not all of it can be made public due to stigma, for example, genital mutilations.
When russia shows you its true face, believe it and assume that it's even uglier in reality.

[This story is also posted on Daily Kos]
Late Sunday evening (or early morning in Middle East time), Israel Apartheid State’s military forces hijacked the Madleen flotilla that had 12 people on the flotilla seeking to provide aid to occupied Gaza, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and European Parliamentarian from France Rima Hassan, on board. The 12 people on the Madleen are being illegally kidnapped in international waters by the Israel Occupation Forces (IOF), a move that breaches international law.
The Madleen was initially named the Barcarole.
Prem Thakker at Zeteo:
Israeli forces boarded the Gaza Aid Flotilla ship, the “Madleen,” early Monday morning local time and detained the 12 passengers on board, according to several reports. The humanitarians on the ship, including globally-known humanitarian and Zeteo contributor Greta Thunberg, European Union Member of Parliament Rima Hassan, and several other volunteers, sought to deliver aid to Gaza. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition says it has lost connection with the vessel, which was carrying medical supplies, diapers, baby formula, children’s prosthetics, and other desperately needed aid in Gaza. […] Here are the 12 people aboard the Madleen, and where they are from:
Greta Thunberg – Swedish activist and humanitarian
Rima Hassan – French-Palestinian member of the European Parliament
Baptiste André – France
Pascal Maurieras – France
Yanis Mhamdi – France
Reva Viard – France
Omar Faiad – French reporter with Al Jazeera Mubasher
Thiago Ávila – Brazil
Hüseyin Şuayb Ordu – Turkey
Sergio Toribio – Spain
Marco van Rennes – The Netherlands
Yasemin Acar – Germany
Al Jazeera on the Madleen:
Israeli forces intercepted the Madleen aid ship in the early hours of Monday morning as it approached the shores of Gaza in an effort to distribute badly needed aid to the Palestinian enclave’s starving population. The ship has drawn international media attention since it set sail from Catania, Italy, about a week ago. As it neared the shores of Gaza, speculation was rife about how the Israelis would respond, considering their past actions in attacking aid ships sailing to provide supplies to the Strip. […]
What happened?
Israeli drones encircled the Madleen, launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition at about 3am local time (01:00 GMT). The drones began spraying it with a white, paint-like substance before the commandos eventually took hold of the ship. The nature of the sprayed substance remains unclear. […]
Where was the Madleen intercepted?
The ship was about 100 nautical miles (185km) from Gaza when it was stopped by Israeli commandos. It was in international waters at the time. Israel’s blockade of Gaza is deemed illegal by most international governments. Under international law, countries and their militaries hold sovereign rights over their territorial waters only, not international waters.
Ron Taub at NewsNation on the Madleen kidnapping:
(NewsNation) — Israeli forces said on Monday they seized a Gaza-bound aid boat and several people who were on board. The voyage on the Madleen had set out to protest Israel’s ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip by a group of activists. The seizure of the ship was the result of a longstanding blockade of the Palestinian territory that has been tightened during the war. This latest development opens up a whole new discussion to be had. What is the Madleen, and who are the key organizations? What were the consequences of the interception for the activists onboard? What are the potential outcomes of the IDF’s actions against the flotilla?

The kidnapping of the 12 aboard the Madleen is an act of sacrilege and a violation of international law.
