IGNIS ASHLOCKE THE FLAME STRATEGIST

Ignis was born with fire in his veins—or so his professors at Lumiose University claimed.

A child prodigy of battle theory, he could calculate damage outputs before he could ride a bike. His parents—a retired Gym Leader and a champion-level beauty coordinator—expected perfection.

They got ash instead.

His first Pokémon was a Rotom—not given, not chosen, but stolen.

At age eight, he’d snuck into his father’s lab and jammed a screwdriver into their washing machine, demanding the spark inside "fight him properly."

The Rotom, amused by his audacity, obliged. It’s been haunting his appliances ever since.

When his younger neighbor Corwin left for Galar a year later, drowning in his Storm Lord legacy, Ignis became his only tether to Kalos.

Their letters were a mix of:

Theoretical debates (Can a Thunderstorm be artificially induced via Fire-type evaporation?)

Personal struggles (Corwin’s fear of failure; Ignis’s frustration with academia’s rigidity)

Occasional care packages (Including Bolt the Emolga, a Flying-type to balance Corwin’s team, or Corwin gifting Ember to Ignis as a thank you )

Ignis never admitted it, but those letters kept him grounded.

Ignis is meticulous, not emotionless.

When his calculations fail—when a 95% accurate Flamethrower misses, when Pyre ignores his orders to save a wild Pokémon instead—he snaps.

But it’s never just anger. It’s the frustration of a scientist who knows fire cannot truly be controlled.

And that terrifies him.

Ignis approaches fire not as a weapon, but as a language—one he is determined to decipher.

His team reflects this philosophy: each member is both a research subject and a partner, their quirks and strengths shaping his understanding of combustion, loyalty, and the unpredictable nature of flames.

Pokemon

ACE Pyra - volcarona - f - modest - found as a larvesta on a school trip to the safari in kiloude city. they bonded easily as his curiosity for how a bug and fire type works turned into a love for her.

OTHERS Brand - arcanine - m - brave - a once abandoned growlithe that he adopted off of the streets, and has become a willing test subject in learning how emotions effect pokemon moves. Gale - talonflame - m - jolly - once a fletchling with a broken wing he'd saved the mon had dedicated itself to training itself and evolving before seeking out ignis and demanding to be his pokemon. Short - rotom ( heat ) - x - naughty - ignis' first mon and a life companion. it helps him with his research and played a hand in pushing him down the life path he's taken. can be a little mischivous, but is mostly harmless. Ember - ceruledge - f - rash - a return gift from corwin as a charcadet after the other's trip to paldea. he doesn't understand how it's moves work and and is compelled to figure it out as soon as possible. Blitz - torchic - f - mild - a hoenn pokemon he'd received from mara in exchange for a swanna he'd been using to test type weaknesses for his team. he's been training her diligently.

DUSTY FLYNN THE DRAGON DISASTER

He'd never be enough.

Goldie's gift—a dull blue egg pressed into his hands with false sympathy—hatched into a Dratini that stared at him with empty eyes. Tempest. A name that rang hollow when the creature flinched from battle, when Goldie's Gible made it cower without throwing a single punch.

"Pathetic," his sister sighed, and Dusty couldn't disagree.

The final humiliation came at Indigo Plateau. Her Garchomp yawned mid-battle. The crowd roared. Tempest didn't even struggle as it lost.

That night on Route 21, saltwater stung his cheeks as Tempest slithered into the waves without looking back. A Spearow's beak clamped onto his ear—Screech, the first Pokémon that ever fought for him.

Years passed in a haze of half-formed dreams. A battered Magikarp became Magnus, the Gyarados who forgot how to swim. Draco, the Tropius he tried to convince himself was a real dragon. Goldie's cast-off Dragonite rearranged his life with disapproving sighs. And Aria, the lovingly stupid Altaria that turned his life around.

Then came Squeaky.

The Noibat latched onto his nose in a pitch-black cave, screeching her claim. As she gnawed his finger, something unclenched in Dusty's chest.

Maybe he'd always be the 'Dragon Disaster'. Maybe he'd never be Goldie.

But this—this biting, squirming proof that something wanted him anyway—

This was enough.

ACE Aria - altaria - f - careful - she loves and adores her stupid little trainer. is a similar amount of stupid but owns it, and is actually rather protective of dusty when others bully him.

OTHERS "Nanny" - dragonite - f - sassy - a gift from his sister goldie, a former ace of hers. she acts as a patronizing mother of sorts to dusty and aria. Magnus - gyarados - m - modest - caught as a magikarp specifically to evolve into a gyarados. was just as excited as dusty when he evolved but barely knows how to use his own moves Draco - tropius - m - serious - one of the only serious mon on the team that almost seems to take his role on the team a little too seriously. Screech - fearow - m - adamant - found as a spearow by the young dusty, he has been one of the only constants in his team aside from magnus. goldie refers to him as the 'old man' of the team and his role is more of the father of the team as opposed to dragonite. Squeaky - noibat - f - gentle - a young noibat that's recently latched itself to dusty as a father of sorts and refuses to be in it's pokeball. dusty really cares for this mon.

As a child, Corwin’s grandfather would recount thunderous tales of his Ampharos, a Pokémon so mighty it could split boulders with a single Thunderbolt and outpace even the swiftest Pokémon with wings. The stories painted his grandfather as a hero, a man whose strength was as unshakable as the storms he commanded. But when the old man placed the Mega Stone in Corwin’s small hands, his grip was weak, his voice a whisper: "This power is not for the timid."

The words haunted him.

Raised in Galar’s shadowed valleys, far from Kalos’ glittering towers, Corwin grew up chasing the ghost of his grandfather's legacy. His mother—a disgraced warrior of some long forgotten Galarian order—tried to steer him toward his own path, but the stone in his pocket burned with judgment. He needed an Ampharos. Not just any Ampharos—one that would make his grandfather’s spirit proud.

After his failed attempt to bond with a Mareep in Galar, Corwin was given a Toxel by a local breeder—a friend of his mother—a consolation prize wrapped in pity.

"Start smaller," the old woman had said, pressing the squirming purple hatchling into his hands. "Not every legend begins with lightning."

He named her Treble—a joke, really. A musical term for "high pitch," something sharp and unignorable. Because that’s what she was: loud, brash, and impossible to overlook.

At first, he resented her.

She wasn’t an Ampharos. She wasn’t grand. She was just… a punk-rock tadpole who chewed on his sleeves and startled his Rotom with random shrieks. But when she evolved into Toxtricity, something changed.

She didn’t just fight—she performed.

Her Overdrive wasn’t just an attack—it was a guitar solo, a declaration. She’d leap into battle like she owned it, grinning like she knew a secret he didn’t.

And for a while, she was enough.

But, when he heard rumors of a rare Mareep population near Paldea’s Casseroya Lake, he left everything behind.

The journey was not noble. It was desperate.

He arrived in Paldea not as the Storm Lord, but as a frightened boy playing conqueror, scouring the shores for a Mareep that could bear the weight of his dreams. When he finally found one—a skittish, wild-eyed thing—he didn’t catch it. He cornered it, trembling hands clutching the Ampharosite around his neck like a talisman.

It wasn’t love. It was a transaction.

He named her Fulgora—after an ancient goddess of lightning—and told himself she was the missing piece. But from the start, she resisted him. Where his grandfather’s Ampharos had been a force of nature, Fulgora was nature itself: untamed, indifferent, and utterly unimpressed by his desperation.

She refused to Mega Evolve on command. She shocked him when he reached for the stone. And worst of all—she looked at him like she knew.

Like she knew he didn’t want her.

He wanted a legend. And legends cannot be forced.

ACE(s) Fulgora - ampharos - f - quiet - although she keeps to herself, she often refuses to listen to him. if he tries to mega evolve her it often ends swiftly with a thunder attack. a recent addition to the team that was caught in paldea. Treble - toxtricity - f - hasty - a gift from galar's pokemon breeder as an electric type starter. regularly starts fights with gwarr or fulgora and is very quick to be flashy and loud in its moves rather than watching its defense.

OTHERS Galvan - galvantula - m - bold - a steady and unflinching mon who does his best too keep the peace with the other mon in the team Gwarr - luxray - m - brave - found as a luxio. he was very protective of fulgora when she was a mareep, and even now Wish - rotom ( wash ) - x - rash - corwin's first mon, though its more like it chose his washer and he befriended it from there Bolt - emolga - m - gentle - a gift from his fellow kalosian friend and penpal ignis in an attempt to expand his team
