Another reason i hate 'Hobie is older brother-coded' in addition to the pedojacketing it's spawned is it's depoliticalizing Hobie's character into a very much whitewashed white punk trope.Hobie took in Gwen and had Miles' back not because he's an older brother figure to anybody except maybe Mayday but because he's an activist and intersectionalist and you can't remove that aspect without blandening Hobie's punkness.Hobie is punk not as an aesthetic,not as sex appeal(mainly since he's,y'know,a minor),but as a culture and political stance.He's not the stereotype,he's an ACTUAL punk i.e a black freedom fighter with hardcore tastes in music and everything else but open softness he's not ashamed of as he choose punk to spread kindness and stand out as himself,not to emulate white people.He's not Duncan from Total Drama or a white femcel who listens to Avril Lavigne,he's Hobie 'Spiderpunk' Brown and he didn't reference multiple historical anti-govermental slogans and have his blue laces on display and a playlist stacked exclusively with legit punk bands just for you to reduce him down to a problematic and lowkey sexist specifically to begin with archetype

Little headcanons I have

If Miles uses his bio-electricity a lot (like a LOT) he kinda runs out of batteries and just falls asleep as soon as the adrenaline is gone. Impromptu sleepover if he’s in another verse, this has happened in Hobie’s verse twice

Can make specific parts of his body invisible if he wants, constantly pranking Ganke with this power

Miles really loves fruit, pineapples specifically. Would eat only pineapple for a meal if he thought he could get away with it

Has his headphones on a lot, not always playing music, just forgetting he has them on

Does NOT have sticker anxiety, give him a sticker and he will immediately put it in the next surface he sees

Doesn’t really have a ‘favorite’ color, but buys a lot of red accessories and clothes simply because the color looks nice on him, however when people give him stuff it tends to be yellow, he doesn’t mind or care

Sews his pins and charms to his bag because he got SO tired of them falling off/being stolen

Walks around Brooklyn to find book stores, music stores, and retro stores

Good at darts, rarely gets to show off this skill

LOVES apple flavored drinks, sweets and smells. Has a cologne with a slight apple scent and wears it all the time

Absolutely loves board games, never misses the opportunity to play a game with his parents on weekends. Don’t even get him started on puzzles

Played volleyball briefly, really enjoyed it but never joined another team

Will try any food at least once, not very picky taste wise, but texture will get him sometimes. Sometimes will try a food he doesn’t like after a while just to see if he still doesn’t like it

I love the Canadian boyfriend trope and even though Hobie is British this fic still falls within that trope-house. It's really fun to see how Mile's classmates see him and the interpretation of his spiderman shenanigans without people knowing his other identity. You don't often see fics in which you only see a civilian miles (the beauty of outsider-povs!), at least I haven't seen a lot. This shit's bloody hilarious, we love to see Hoby be effortlessly cool.
