He really likes cinnamon rolls. He taught Fenn how to make them and now he would admit Fenn makes them better than he does LOL. He also lovesss chocolate.

So Sona has very strict laws when it comes to artwork, aka it has to be approved by the King and you must be licensed to share, display, or sell it. He paints for enjoyment and displays them in his house. If anyone found out he made his own paintings without submitting them for approval before displaying, he could definitely get in trouble.

-Did he and Henley have a good relationship?

I'd say it was definitely strained but they cared about each other, and Henley relied on Oskar to help take care of Fenn when he was away (which was a lot). I won't go into too much more detail though because there will be more info in the comic later on.

Ohhh I've never had a Vivienne question before!

1. Viv was around 18 when she got engaged, 19 when she got married.

2. She enjoys feeling powerful/superior and moving up in society because she hasn't really had much say in what she wants to do in life. If you mean hobbies, I'd say that sort of notion was beat out of her a long, long time ago. If she has any hobby at all now, it would be making sure her son turns out the way she wants him to.

Other than that, she does what most very wealthy socialites do- hosts and attends parties, network in very elite circles, go to the operas, ect. Does she enjoy this...I don't think she feels that's relevant.

I have a terrible memory so forgive me if this has already been answered, but do Fenn and Tobi drink very often? Fenn is pretty uptight I know, but has he really not drank at all during his post? Does Tobi get alcohol in his shipments or does he have his own supply? Do they not drink at all? I'm so curious!!

This is an interesting question, and no I don't believe I've ever answered it before!

So Sona is very strict about any form of drugs or alcohol, aka they don't allow it unless it's medicine. That doesn't mean people don't break this law though, especially with smoking and alcohol.

Someone like Fenn, who is all about rules and regulations, has not drank anything ever.

Tobias has, definitely. Vaylin is much more open with that stuff, and especially the wealthy would have access to all kinds of alcohol. Tobi was forced to go to rich people parties and rich parties would have alcohol served throughout.

As a Vaylin soldier, they may send small amounts but not too much because it would be a big expense. So if Tobi did drink in Faroff it would be a special occasion only, since the supply is very limited. (Yes Tobi is a Hawkfordt but because of his low rank in the military he gets what a grunt soldier gets. His brother would have to approve anything special being sent to him.)

Analysis post for episode 89 of Faroff, AKA Choices: Part 3

Here we are, at yet another milestone in Fenn and Tobias' relationship! Let's waste no time getting straight into it.

First off, we've had it confirmed finally that Fenn and Tobias have never had a friend before. I've speculated on this for awhile, and I've always somewhat figured that was true of Fenn (the flashbacks from episode 81 implied that the other soldiers at his training camp didn't like him, and farm life is very isolated so it was unlikely he knew anyone from there other than Oskar), but Tobias never having had a friend is surprising to me. Although, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Most of the other pillar family children look to be older than him, so he probably wasn't around people his own age a lot. Of course, there's also the military schools, but he never lasted long there...and, obviously, relationships besides friendships exist. But that's for another episode on another day.

Anyway, Fenn's expression in this panel makes it obvious how much he didn't expect the question.

I think Fenn would've desperately wanted friends when he was younger. But, being...Fenn, unfortunately, he probably always rubbed people the wrong way. I love him, but he is a loud annoying know-it-all. I can't really blame people for not liking him.

Eventually, he probably convinced himself that, like so many good things, he didn't need friendship. Just like he "doesn't need" music, and he "doesn't need" art, and he "doesn't need" romance, because he's an "elite Sonan soldier" and he shouldn't need to have any of those things.

I think Fenn does that a lot. Telling himself he doesn't want things he can't have to make himself feel better, I mean. It's probably part of why Tobias messes with him so much. Because Tobias has given him a lot of those things he supposedly couldn't have and now he has to be aware of the fact that he did actually want it. Which will, eventually, force him to confront the fact that Sona isn't a place where he can be truly happy. God help him if he ever goes back there because it's going to be so much more dull now that he knows what he's missing....

Also, just in general, I think Fenn needs connections with people his own age, that aren't his superior. The fact that he's never been friends with a peer is probably a part of why he's such a hardcore follower and doesn't know much about thinking for himself and what he himself wants to do. Having friends is a huge part of developing your own identity and sense of self.

Anyway, briefly cutting away from Fenn, have you guys NOTICED Tobi's expressions in this episode? I've talked about thinking Tobias will be more genuine from here on out and...maybe it's just me, but I feel like his expressions felt more real and less filtered than usual this episode (which has been happening for awhile, but I still feel it's worth pointing out.)

I'm quite excited about this development, if I really am not looking into it too hard. Tobias putting up less of a front around Fenn is very good news for their relationship. In this episode already I'm personally seeing a lot of change. I feel Tobias has been more upfront about how he feels and what he wants from Fenn.

I know that might sound pretty normal for Tobias, and he does a good job of playing the part of confidence and self-assuredness, but as we've seen in recent episodes, that's not completely true. A lot of his so-called confidence has been a mask, and I honestly feel that he's actually been very careful with what he says and does around Fenn in the past, mostly to avoid scaring him away. Before he never mentioned wanting to be friends until episode 83 (we're assuming he's wanted this for awhile and just never said anything, and when he did it was only under a huge amount of pressure), but now this is his second time bringing it up within 24 hours. Again, tiny, itsy bitsy change, but still think it's worth saying.

Anyway, I do think this shows that he's feeling more comfortable with Fenn and feels more confident that he can be forward with what he wants from their relationship without worrying about Fenn getting spooked. Also, the fact that he went about this entire episode and interaction without getting explicitly flirty is good news to me as well. I think the flirtiness is part of his act (not saying it isn't a genuine part of his personality, but I also think it's part of the guard he keeps up), a way of perhaps keeping distance from his real emotions and making the whole thing feel less...serious.

I think this sequence from episode 79 is probably a good example of that idea of Tobi using flirtiness/feigned confidence to avoid being emotionally honest.

Anyhow, this first friendship is just as good for Tobias as it is for Fenn. I spoke about this already in a previous post but, as far as we know, this is one of, if not the first time someone has been close with him out of their own free choice, and not because they had to or for other external reasons. I suppose you could argue Fenn "has to" be around Tobias because of the situation with his quarters, but he doesn't have to be friends with him. In fact he has every reason, from his perspective, to be cruel to him. And he still chooses not to.

Tobias has spent his entire life around people who only want him around for what they can use him for. Sure, he probably knows from observation that Fenn cares about him, but knowing it and being told it are two different things. I think it's good for him to know that Fenn not only cares but is also (somewhat) willing to care, and to tell him so.

Anyway, going back to Fenn.

Him agreeing to be friends with Tobias in itself is pretty big news, even disregarding how good friendship could be for him. It's part of the whole bout of character development he's had lately with admitting that he really does care about Tobi for reasons beyond "fairness" or honouring the truce.

I talked in a previous post about how Fenn avoids labelling/talking out loud about his feelings for Tobias to avoid making it too "real" for him to handle. This--putting the label of "friendship" on it--is a pretty big deal. And I don't mean that in a "stepping stone to eventual romance" way. They are friends. And, frankly, they need to be friends first. That trust and companionship needs to be established between them before they could ever even dream of having a healthy romantic partnership. Not to mention that both of them have a lot of trauma to work through, and the issues with the war and the laws and everything...they have a lot to take care of. To be honest, all the people in the comments acting like their friendship isn't legitimate just because they're also attracted to each other is kinda ticking me off. Not only is their friendship real, it's crucial.

In other news, we have FINALLY reached our first instance of Fenn teaching Tobias how to cook! Despite this first session being somewhat of a disaster (he attracts fire like a fish to water), I think Tobias learning some proper housekeeping skills will help his sense of independence. We've talked a lot in the past about Tobias having learned helplessness, and gaining more personal autonomy will only help to combat that. He needs to be able to say that he doesn't need anyone else to take care of himself properly. Fenn is good for him, but he shouldn't have to depend on him either.

On a lighter, much cuter note, I absolutely adore the detail of Fenn eating the burnt pancakes so Tobi can have the nice ones :')

This man really can't take the idea of Tobi having to deal with anything bad huh. Fenn might as well be a living marshmallow....
