When I first played through Deltarune years ago I didn't care about or like Berdly, and I had no idea about the weird route for a while. Now I'm much more informed and freshly played through both new chapters and OH BOY does this post especially give me so much more appreciation for this weird kid- which I really need to stress that these are all children going through this

This game is torturing me and I love it

Okay one thing about Berdly that NO ONE talks about is that bro is a FUCKING TANK.

His canon HP in his battles is 1985 (first battle), 900 (second battle) Which is FUCKING RIDICULOUS when you compare it to any of your party members.

While this makes sense for his function in chapter 2 as a miniboss (he would likely have a lot less if he were a party member) his unique resilience seems to be a part of his character besides basic game mechanics.

In the battle when Queen controlls him by attaching a whole ass mind control device to him, (if you dont get it off him) he will eventually manage to not only resist it, but fucking RIP IT OFF HIS FACE despite excruciating pain. If you DO save him, as soon as he hits the ground, he IMMEDIATELY turn to face queen like "You can't fight all FOUR of us bitch whachu gonna do?" and then as soon as she leaves he's just like "haha i'm actually fucking exhausted u guys go without me ill just go build a giant robot with spotify itunes and youtube music over here" like BRO??????

During the fight, if you look at the spell's description, all it says is "fatal". Not only that, if you choose to "check" Berdly, it says he's weak to ice.

He recieved a FATAL hit with a spell he is ELEMENTALY DISADVANTAGED AGAINST EVERY POKEMON PLAYER KNOWS THAT'S FUCKING INSANE

And then he just sits there in the ice cube for the whole rest of the adventure, and then everyone just LEAVES him in the library until kris manages to get out of the house at the end of the chapter. Bro is slumped over a wooden desk for HOURS in fucking CRITICAL CONDITION like how TF are you not dead?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!?!??

And when you enter the hospital the nurse talks to kris, saying something like "your friend is still- he's resting"

LIKE HE COULD FUCKING DIE AT ANY MOMENT

LIKE KRIS DRAGGED HIM IN AT DEATH'S DOOR AND SHE'S BARELY MANAGING TO KEEP HIM ALIVE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

I was talking to my dad abt this and he was like "plot armor" and that even FURTHER supports my theory abt berdly being relevant bc WHY PLOT ARMOR IF NO PLOT RELEVANCE

Deltarune theory that I need people to think about for a moment.

Monsters don't bleed.

You can probably figure out where this is going yourself, but if you want to hear my thoughts and evidence, it's all going under the cut.

Monsters don't bleed. We're reminded of this at the start of and throughout Chapter 4, through interaction with the bunny kid when you knock their door, and the funeral book about monsters turning into dust.

Conversely Susie has expressed a lack of understanding about this concept, implying she's bled before and doesn't find it weird. Implying she's used to a culture where blood is normal...

...but not dust? She didn't seem to put the pieces together that the dust in the 'snowglobe' (horrific implications btw) could be Gerson's body until Kris pointed it out to her. After which point she reacted with horror, as if she hadn't expected it, or didn't know that's how it worked?

Let's think about Susie for a moment. What do we know about Susie, now?

We know she bleeds. They made a point of showing it even though Kris bleeds in the same chapter and it's not visibly shown. We know she's considered a brute, more monsterish than those around her. She lays into this fact, playing it up. We know she had a rocky childhood. She's moved houses multiple times in the past. She's given up on trying to make friends.

She doesn't have a tail (or at least, her tail is a nub), and she feels embarrassed about that fact. When equiped with the jevil's tail, she'll say "figured I'd grow one eventually."

Kris used to wear a horn headband in the hopes they'd grow horns like their family, eventually. When Susie sees a picture of them with the headband, she quietens uncomfortably once she realises why.

Whatever they said made her back off and leave. I think she saw herself in them. The outcast. The odd one out in a town full of something else. Something that can't be understood. Is it any wonder she changed her tune when she found out Kris was not her enemy, but understood her? That Kris would leap to defend her, instead? That she thought, surely, this kid hates me for what I am just as much as I hate them for what they are? They don't hate me? They don't think I'm disgusting, a freak of nature, better off abandoned?

Why have we never seen her parents?

Why is it that, when we look away from Kris, we can only imagine "what Susie is up to"? Why no one else? Why can we see her, but not exert enough control to impact what she does? Why is our soul able to fight on her behalf without Kris's involvement? Why does she seem to exert control over the story even when it's clearly trying to be bent in favour of the player's decisions?

So I've just recently finished the chapters 3 & 4 of Deltarune and I absolutely adore everything about this game, but I keep noticing this one detail that I'm not sure means anything but I wanna ramble about it! Obviously, big spoiler warning, though I'll try not to say too many, but here's my big thought:

Why are so many siblings missing?

So throughout the game so far, we're introduced to several different characters and their families, and I've noticed that there's at least three cases where we're told about someone's sibling but we never get to see them generally outside of brief dialogue mentions or maybe someone/something which has a design calling back to them

The most obvious of course is Asriel, who's said to be off to college by the time Kris and Susie first end up in the Dark World. It's mentioned time and time again how he's off to college, or how people miss him, or the hope he'll be back in time for the festival we'll end up seeing in chapter 5 next year. We've yet to see him in game beyond little references or other characters mentioning him, but we do meet and adventure with Ralsei who obviously looks like him, or at least another addition to the Dreemurr family. Even Noelle and Susie talk about this fact while Kris and the player are hiding in the closet in chapter 4

Then there's Dess, Noelle's sister, who's also repeatedly mentioned throughout the story starting in chapter 2, but the tone is always more grim and serious compared to Asriel being mentioned, as if she's gone missing, died, or something akin to that. We've seen her entire family and her room, but we've only ever seen a single silhouette during Tenna's speech towards the end of chapter 3, and if you believe the theory that perhaps Dess is in some way the Knight then perhaps we've only seen a corrupted, silent, and deadly version. At the very least, the Knight certainly has horns very similar to the Holidays'

And finally there's everyone's favorite silly guy, Papyrus. I don't believe his name is specifically said, but he's referenced by Sans who in the first two chapters brings up the possibility of you two meeting. But in each and every chapter so far where we can interact with the skeleton bros' house it's explicitly said the sounds in the house that are clearly supposed to be him are getting more distant until it's just totally silent during chapter 4 where interacting with the house says "You hear nary a bone... No rattle, nor trousle, nor xylophone tickle"

While the last one is certainly more silly than the other two, there's at least three siblings repeatedly mentioned, related to characters that are in some form important to the story, who are completely missing in one way or another, and I feel like that's gotta mean something right?? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but three siblings related to major or beloved characters completely out of the picture feels like one too many! Someone else could probably tie it all together better than me but I just really wanted to talk about the game and throw this out there

I think people should absolutely make this happen with the switch 2! It honestly does look like a significant improvement and I'd love to get ahold of it, but especially over in Canada where the price for just the system after tax would be over $700?? That'd be a massive dent in my wallet, and don't even get me started on getting even just a single game 😭

I don't expect it to be super cheap or anything, but it should definitely be a lower price!!

So I decided to replay Undertale for the first time in years after it suddenly came to mind and on top of remembering now how incredible this game is I've basically immediately kinsidered and then kinfirmed being Chara

It didn't occur to me until I got to the final fight with Asriel and oh my gods the realization hit me like a truck 😭

Gonna need a minute to just embrace the new kintype by once again replaying the pacifist route again cuz I need to see everyone happy, but I hope any sourcemates out in the world are doing well!!
