the moment he walks backstage with the other members, all hyunwoo can feel is absolute dread . his eyes are glued to the door of the green room once he's sat down , his nails digging into his knees to try to keep himself focused . he can barley hear the buzz of everyone cheerfully talking with the sound of his heart pounding in his ears all too loud . time moved excruciatingly slow around him.. until the door finally opened . everyone else was immediately on their feet, brimming with excitement as their parents walked through the doors to congratulate them on completing their first concert performance .

he sat back while his members rushed forward to hug their parents , hearing sweet words of praise from them . hyunwoo just watched them in a daze before his eyes finally met with his mother’s . her expression was that of thinly veiled pity , trying to manage a smile as she walked towards him but he knew she was only trying to keep them both together . he was on his feet quicker than he intended , practically stumbling his way to his mother . he felt like he was a child again , weak in her presence . he had to keep it together, he couldn't do this here .

hyunwoo’s mother can tell he's not okay , she hadn't expected him to be fine . the moment he walks up she can already see his eyes becoming glossy , she can see his hands shaking . her own hands were already beginning to tremble . she was about to speak before he walked past her , towards the door and out into the hall so they could talk alone . she sighed . she knew he was just barley hanging on as to not make a scene in front of the others . she followed him out into the hall , no one else was out there at the moment , just them .

the moment his mother closed the door behind her , hyunwoo practically collapsed in his mother’s arms . he ducked down in order to hide his face against her , his eyes already pricked with warm tears of shame . he felt like throwing up. he felt like he was drowning in the sobs he was holding back , face growing red as he tried to keep quiet . he almost felt like laughing due to how foolish he was to believe his father would show up now , to laugh at how pathetic it was to cling onto any hope that he’d finally accept him .

“hyunwoo..” his mother spoke softly , trying to find the words to console him . her voice died out as she heard him begin to cry , knowing there were no words that could even begin to make the situation better . all she could do was gently wrap her arms around him and let him cry .

hyunwoo couldn't bring himself to even try to remain quiet anymore. he was practically suffocating in his own misery . his makeup that the stylist’s had spent so long on was smudging , the eyeliner beginning to streak down his cheeks . when he went back into the room everyone would surely know what happened . it was all too much , too overwhelming in ways that made him want to run out and never look back again . he was a fool . he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up , he shouldn't have had any expectations, he shouldn't have done this to begin with. this is all his fault. hyunwoo hasn't spoken to his father since debut , he doesn't know why he thought he'd show up now . he didn't show up then , so why would he show up now . not when the company reserved the front row for all the parents , not when they offered to cover all travel expenses , not when he begged his mother to try to convince him to come . his father would never come to see him preform . still, he couldn't help but hope like a child that he would come for such a big moment in his career .

when the concert began , the cheers of the fans and their smiling faces was one of the most magical things he'd ever experienced . his eyes scanned over them waving their lightsticks , holding up banners with his face on them and screaming his name . it was wonderful . then his gaze fell on the front row . all of the members’ parents and family sitting there in support of their sons . he looked for his mother , finding her sitting there with an almost pained smile . he knew why . it was like a void , drawing him in and filling him with nothing but dread . the empty seat next to his mother . his father hadn't come . throughout the concert , he did his best to ignore it , to focus on all the people who were there to support him . but he just couldn't . his gaze kept going back to that empty seat . it was like it was taunting him , haunting him almost . he kept looking back at it like his father would magically appear at any moment . but of course , he didn't . his father wanted nothing to do with him anymore , and realizing that on stage in front of thousands of people almost made hyunwoo collapse right there .

hyunwoo hasn't spoken to his father since debut . well, his father had stopped talking to him not long after he joined the company . his father didn't approve of him being an idol , hated it actually . a renowned pianist , his father found being an idol a insulting to ‘real’ music. he had raised him with the classics , teaching hyunwoo all the fundamentals of music . hyunwoo fell in love with the piano at a young age , only ever wanting to play it with his father . his father was his inspiration , and his father was quite proud of the talent hyunwoo was showing . but when hyunwoo came home with the paperwork to join an entertainment company after passing his audition in secret , he was faced with the nastiest argument he’d ever been in . it was hours of yelling , of insults thrown his way . his father thought he was throwing away all his talent , all the work he put into teaching hyunwoo what real music and performance was . in the end he signed the papers , and refused to speak to hyunwoo again . his father left the house more often when hyunwoo was home , and on the occasion they were there at the same time he acted as if hyunwoo did not exist . he refused to even look his way . he acted as if he didn't hear him . his mother stood by her son , but his father became nonexistent in his life . it was odd , mourning someone who was still there in front of him , but his relationship with his father was virtually dead . nothing he did ever got his father to budge an inch . not trying to reason with him , not yelling , not groveling on his knees begging for forgiveness . his father wouldn't spare him even a glance .

you only have yourself to blame , this is all your fault , you shouldn't have ever done this . all thoughts he would frequently have . it hasn't gotten better with time , maybe its even gotten worse . he loves preforming , he loves singing, he loves his members… but his father was the reason he fell in love with music . not having him here to support him made him feel something akin to disgust with himself , like he had failed as a son .

he doesn't know how much time has passed with him standing there with his mom . it could've been 5 minutes or 5 hours , he barley remembers how he got here . it’s not until he hears the crack of the door opening that he's suddenly alert again , turning to see who's calling his name . its matti peaking his head out the door ,

“hyung, come on we’re going to-” he pauses as he realizes what he's looking at . hyunwoo’s gaze drops to the ground in shame , he knows how he probably looks right now . eye makeup streaking down his cheeks and his attempts to wipe his tears only end up smudging his foundation and revealing how red he was from crying , though anyone would be able to tell from how puffy and red his eyes were .

“oh, umm.. is everything..” matti clearly didn't know what to say . he’s never been good at comforting and he doesn't truly know the full extent of hyunwoo’s situation , most of the members don't . he's sympathetic in his gaze , and opened his mouth slightly as he tried to find the right words to say before he was silenced by a hand on his shoulder .

“matti , why don't you go back and tell them to wait a little longer to take the group photo ?” come’s romeo’s voice from behind . matti nods , slipping back inside the room while romeo comes out to speak to hyunwoo . romeo knows . “mrs. kim, may i have a moment alone with hyunwoo?” his voice is gentle , understanding, and hyunwoo’s mother nods and carefully lets go of him before walking back to the green room . its just them two now standing in the hallway . romeo doesn't need to say anything . he simply walked up to hyunwoo and held him in his arms while he cried a little more, hand rubbing softly against his back .

“it’s alright now, i’ve got you . let it out , they can wait a bit longer.” he whispered comfortingly , keeping hyunwoo close and supported against him . romeo found out about hyunwoo’s father a long time ago , back when they were trainees . hyunwoo didn't like talking about it , and romeo didn't push , only let him know that he would always be there for him . hyunwoo didn't often take him up on it though . he hated feeling like a burden , hated feeling like he was being pitied . you're taking up space , look at you crying pathetically , everyones waiting for you to get it together . his thoughts would consume him at this rate . his hands clung to the back of romeo’s shirt desperately like it was a lifeline , like he could claw his way out of the pit he was sinking in . everything was too much , he felt like he couldn't breath normally . you can't make it as an idol like this , what kind of idol are you , you wasted your relationship with your father for thi-

“hyunwoo,” romeo’s voice cut through his thoughts . hyunwoo paused for a moment, though he couldn't bring himself to reply . “focus on me , focus on what's happening right now . don't drown yourself in your mind . you're here , you're going to be alright .” romeo held him a little tighter , keeping him grounded . hyunwoo took a few deep breaths before nodding , slowly shutting down his scrambling thoughts and calming down a bit . reluctantly , he loosened his hold on romeo’s shirt . with a few more deep breaths , he managed to finally pull away . romeo pulled some tissues out of his pocket to dry hyunwoo’s eyes and placed a firm hand on his shoulder . “are you okay to go back in now ?” he said carefully . hyunwoo nodded , the shaking in his body beginning to subside . “i.. i'm fine now , thank you. we should go back before they start worrying .” he replied . the dread and hurt he felt was still there , but it felt smaller now . he had his members with him . he had his mother there to support him . it was going to be alright , even if it all felt devastating right now . with romeo’s hand gently guiding him , hyunwoo managed to enter the room again with a small smile on his face . everyone who truly cared for him was there , supporting him through everything .

his father wasn't coming . and hyunwoo was going to be okay.

theo turned 22 today . the birthday party his members threw for him was quite cute , with a decorated wall of streamers, balloons, and photos where he could set up the birthday livestream for the fans . the fans were so sweet with their birthday wishes , the comments filled with kind words and happy chatter amongst themselves as they came together to celebrate him . the others came to deliver him gifts and talk for a while , the birthday streams were always a lot of fun . the members had gotten him all sorts of things he loved that would soon be proudly worn or displayed in his room once he got the chance .

the members were crowded around him as angel brought out the cake , all of them singing happy birthday to him as the fans sent their birthday wishes in the chat . the cake was shaped like a cute little lion , it was his representative animal after all . romeo lit the candles , and theo blew them out to great applause from the others .

“so what’d you wish for ?” kenji asked , smearing some frosting on theo’s cheek to tease.

“if i told you , it wouldn't come true ! “ theo laughed .

the company had been generous enough to rent them a small camper van in order to get them all to the beach with all their stuff easily . it was fitted with plush seats and a tv for shows and karaoke , the latter they took full advantage of . a couple hours of unserious covers and laughing went by before they made it to their destination , the beach .

the mist from the ocean was cool against theo’s skin . he’d always wanted to come to the beach to watch the sunset and this was the perfect way to relax after practice . it didn't take long to unpack the bus with eight hands helping out , finding the perfect spot to place everything and getting to work . it wasn't too long until most of them had made their way to the water , splashing about and unwinding after a long day .

it was fun , he’d picked up matti and thrown him right into a large wave much to the other’s delight . kenji and hayden had attempted to tag team him and grab him from the arms and legs to throw him in the water , but theo won that fight easily . the air was filled with their laughter , it was such a nice moment . as the sun began to set , he made his way back to where they'd get up on the beach to take a break . he could see matti grabbing some things from his bag , sparklers as he soon realized . they would make a pretty sight in a couple minutes once the sun went down .

he grabbed a water from one of the coolers before deciding to sit down next to angel , who had been given a sparkler by matti and was watching it contently . the light reflected in his eyes in a way theo had to quickly look away from before he embarrassed himself by staring , resigning to watch the glow instead.

theo’s gaze was transfixed on the dancing light of the sparkler in angel’s hand , so much so that he'd nearly missed angel’s words.

“in another universe , do you think we’re soulmates?”

it was so out of the blue , theo was almost convinced he'd just hallucinated it …what? it was a casual question , but he couldn't help the way his eyes widened at that , and he certainly couldn't help the way he felt his heart drop at that either.

“are we not in this one?”

the words slipped out a bit quicker than he would've liked . his voice sounded a bit more desperate than he ever thought it could . they'd spent almost every moment since childhood together , honestly he couldn't remember the last time they'd been apart for longer than a month or two at most . was it selfish for him to feel like they were ? for him to hope, even ?

angel had turned to look back at theo , looking at him like truly hadn't expected that reply . his mouth opened to respond , but he was cut off by the booming voice of matti from the distance calling for them .

“GUYS !! it’s time for photos !” matti’s voice rang loud against the gentle rumbling of the waves . angel looked back at theo like he wanted to say something more , but he dropped it as he got up to rejoin the rest of the group .

theo sat there in silence for a moment . he was hopeless , wasn't he ? he almost laughed at himself . almost . there was some things you could wish for in life, whether on a star or a birthday candle , that just can't come true no matter how bad you want it . he knew that , but he couldn't stop himself from hoping .

“THEO !!” matti yelled again , the others calling for him as well this time as well . theo got up , looking at them as they stood there waiting for him , the sparklers in their hands casting a faint glow against them .

“coming !” he called out , running to join them . he stood next to angel , who smiled at him with that same smile theo had come to want to see every day . their fingers brushed against each other as angel handed him a sparkler for the photo .

maybe in another universe.. no , he wanted it in this universe . until then , he'd keep wishing upon that birthday candle .

kenji's 22nd bday live was as eventful as one could imagine, full of cameos from the other members as they came in to deliver their gifts to him . he chatted with fans for a long while and shared stories from past bdays , even bringing out his younger sister on facetime for a bit to talk ! to the best part was the tiger shaped cake they brought out for him , cute and fitting for their tiger member .

"vivi," she says after a moment's pause, "i'd say i get along with vivi the best." mars looks at the member in question, nervously fidgeting with her rings as she thinks about her next words. mars was never one for talking about herself and such a personal question has her a bit flustered. "uh well, vivi and i were the first two trainees CLOUD started training, so it was just us for a while before the others came along. " she continued. "back then, I still wasn't sure i wanted to become an idol. i was content with writing demos and i almost became a composer instead but.. watching vivi train so hard, train so diligently, i.. i wanted to shine as brightly as she did. ah, I sound a bit corny don't i?" her ears become noticeably pink, which she covers as soon as her members begin to playfully tease her. vivi's face is also a bit red as she chuckles softly at mars’ embarrassed comment. it wouldn't be hard to guess that she felt similarly about mars. mars hadn't talked much about her pre-debut experience until now, it was nice to hear it from her instead of a story another member told for once. “we spent a lot of time together. when things got hard, the person i would talk to was vivi. she was always there for me and i was always there for her. i don't know if i'd be in son!c if it wasn't for her, she really inspired me. she gave me the strength to be the leader our team needed, and I'll always be thankful to her for that."

"which member? well, it would be hard to pick one member only. the members i am closest with would be romeo and hyunwoo. as the eldest members, i feel as if we took the responsibility for our team very early on." he had a hard to read expression as he spoke, like a mixture of fondness and.. something else that seemed more strained. "it was.. a lot leading up to debut, and our early days were difficult. i've worked hard to take care of my members. romeo took care of me and made sure i was looking out for myself as well, hyunwoo made sure everything went to plan and kept everyone focused. they lifted some of that stress off my shoulders, and i can't be more grateful for that." junghwa let out a small sigh, letting out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. he didn't often talk about the early days of their career due to what happened with their ex-manager; still, there was a sense of sentiment connected with those days. "we spend a lot of time together, all of us. when i am not working on our next song, us three will often go to our favorite cafe to relax together. i feel truly supported and content when i'm with them, i don't feel like i have to go through things alone when i'm with them." a wide smile spread as he spoke, looking over at romeo and hyunwoo with such a affectionate gaze. after a moment of the members giggling at how red hyunwoo had gotten from junghwa's words, he continued. "i really admire them, i don't think i could express it with simple words. i hope we continue to grow as a team and form lovely memories together."

"ooo, i love this question!" hana smiles as her hands clap together excitedly, "i'm the one with the most pets in our dorm, so i'll answer!" her hands go to her phone as she pulls up her photos of her pets. "this one's teokki, this is bingsu, and finally dubu!" she turns her phone towards the camera as she scrolls through her photos, showing off pictures of a white bunny, a black and white bunny, and very round little white hamster. "i've had teokki for the longest, she's about 4 years old! she's super cute, but she's the least social of my pets. she doesn't let most people interact with her.. she's got a big attitude!" she laughs. "i have a room all to myself in the dorm, so i got to move her in with me when we all first moved into the dorm. vivi has a really sensitive nose, so she doesn't like to come into my room.. hm? i clean their enclosures all the time!!" hana shakes her head as minnie teases her about the supposed rabbit smell of her room. "anyways.." she pouts, "teokki is super particular! out of my members, she only really lets aeri pick her up and kicks if anyone else tries to. she's funny like that! bingsu is the complete opposite, she's super cuddly with everyone!" hana scrolls to a video of the bunny curling into mars' arms, smiling wide as it plays. "isn't she the cutest? she looks like oreo bingsu right? that's how she got her name!" hana giggles as she scrolls through more photos of bingsu before landing on a video of her hamster. "and then my last baby is dubu! he's my youngest kid, i got him last year. he's super round and squishy! he's so greedy with his food but his full cheeks are so cute.. i spent a lot of time researching and setting up his enclosure before i got him, it's really big and he loves burrowing! i don't handle him as much because he's nocturnal, but sometimes he'll eat from my hand in the morning! he bit hayden one time when he visited, so now hayden's scared of him." she laughs as she recalls the memory, remembering how the lovepill member had shrieked so funnily from something so tiny. she shows off a few more pictures of her pets before shutting off her phone and putting it away. "that's all of my babies! aside from my pets, we also have mars' kitty in our dorm! if i ever get more time, i would love to have sugar gliders, they're the cutest! i really love seeing all the fans' funny comments when i post photos of my kids, especially on teokki's pics! i promise she's nice guys!!"

Their debut mv didn't have the best budget, as most of CLOUD's resources went to SON!C's marketing and future comeback, but the song made up for it. RUSSIAN R❤︎ULETTE's release did relatively well as COMETS tuned in to see SON!C's 'younger brothers' in the company. Its sweet and cute aesthetics paired with the subtle notes of something sinister underneath turned heads towards them as fans made fun theories on possible meanings behind the mv and song. Their debut stage had a good amount of views for a rookie group from a new company, and they gained a decently sized audience. Their next release was a single: saccharine. The music video had a sharp influx of views due to clips of it getting posted to different platforms for its slasher movie aesthetics layered on top of LOVEPILL's usual sweet concept. As an entirely English release, it was able to reach a larger audience. SON!C's futuristic cyber concept quickly drew eyes towards them, along with their unique styling and flashy music video. Their signature makeup looks, consisting of stars, glitter, and gems, were recreated by fans online which led to more people tuning into their debut mv. Though failing to secure a music show win, their debut song ELECTRIC SH☆CK was a hit within the general kpop community. "For the arts, not the charts." as their fans would say. SON!C's 1st full length album, TO THE STARS!, brought more attention to the group as more people were exposed to their excellent vocals.
