iPad Air - not just for ‘Pros’
I recently got a 5th Generation iPad Air. Being a ‘pro’, I typically have only purchased Apple’s ‘Pro’ devices when given a choice. That might all be changing:

Holiday Quick Hits
Noticed a couple things ... One good, one bad. First the good: Starbucks has made a slight change to their Free iTunes App/Song/etc. of the week cards. Now they can be instantly scanned with your iDevice's camera, making that instant gratification, just that much more instant. On the bad side, Disney's Where's My Water 2 was a free download as part of Disney's 12 Days of Christmas. Maybe it's free all the time, I'm not sure, but this version has video ads for crap every few levels. I don't think Disney is hurting for cash, and - maybe I'm alone here - but I'd rather pay $0.99 or $1.99 then see stupid ads in a Disney game. Bad call Disney...

Oops! Gotta love 'analysts': "Apple will sell a few to its fans, but the iPhone won't make a long-term mark on the industry". Good call, buddy. Via daringfireball.net

At a big, athlete-filled event in New York City, Nike has announced the new Nike+ Fuelband SE. The band is mostly the same, only with some color: it comes in yellow, pink, or red accenting an...
Seems like Nike is making incremental improvements to it's FuelBand line, something Apple has perfected. And this looks like a decent product, if getting off your ass and being active is the motivator. I'm still looking for a replacement for my horribly built Jawbone Up - I loved the concept behind the Up - tracking activity as well as sleep quality, but I went through two bands in less than 3 months, and so did everyone I know that had one. Good concept. Poorly executed. In any case, the FuelBand SE looks good, but new colours and Bluetooth 4.0 isn't enough to draw me in.

Let's try again...
Last post: February 2013 - well, at least that was this year. So I suck at doing this, what can you do. I have a new idea - to me anyway - I'm going to try to make this a linked list type of thing, where anytime I see something interesting, I'm going to link to it and maybe you'll find it interesting too. Ultimately, I will get serious about this, but for now, let's just see what happens.

Star Wars Kids Joke
Yoda has invited Luke over for dinner.
Luke asks "What's for Dinner, Yoda?" Yoda replies "Degobah Stew." Luke, in his whiniest best, replies "Aww again? Do I have to eat that? I hate that stuff. Can we at least have something good for dessert? Like Apple Pie, maybe?"
Yoda answers "Stew or Stew not. There is no pie."

What a Thrill! Since I first discovered them on 102.1 The Edge in Toronto, "Humble" Howard Glassman and Fred Patterson - better known as Humble and Fred have been my favourite morning show duo. I've followed them from station to station all over the dial, and kept up with their careers (and forced "retirements") since moving out of Toronto in 2002.
In early October 2011, Humble and Fred both found themselves unemployed at the same time and began "HumbleAndFredRadio.com" - a daily podcast that runs about 90 minutes Monday to Friday, giving H & F a vehicle to perform the terrestrial radio show they've always wanted to do - but this time not on radio. And since the first episode, I've been hooked.
Anyway, a couple months ago I contacted them to see if they would be interested in an iPhone app. And after trading emails back and forth, the official Humble and Fred radio app from Red Piston is a reality. Today, I achieved a major thrill in my life to be interviewed "live to digital media" on their podcast! I still can't believe that Humble and Fred actually spoke to me and interviewed me and treated me with the same respect and professionalism that they've shown in interviews with celebrities such as Frank Sinatra Jr, George Strombolopolous, members of the Tragically Hip, Rush, and many many other celebrities. And here they were interviewing me! Something doesn't quite fit.
But honestly, what a thrill. I still can't believe it happened - and I even have the claim to fame now of being the first person they've hung up on during an interview. Thanks Guys! It was a true honour.
Check out the podcast episode above, and here's where you can download the app:

Elevator Mistrust
As a feature of this blog, I'm going to introduce many things. Today, I introduce the first entry into my list of grievances and/or pet peeves. Today's entry comes courtesy of a lady in my office building who got on the 7th floor, as I was on my way up to the 8th. It's very rare for anyone to get on from the 7th floor, so I was surprised when the car stopped and the doors opened up. I greeted the lady and asked "going up?" to confirm that indeed this is what she wanted (note: the elevators in our building are horrible and can't be trusted. It should not have been odd for her to hear such a question prior to getting in the car). In any case, she confirmed she was going up and as I was standing right next to the buttons, I asked her what floor she was going to. Instead of telling me, she cast a nasty side glance in my direction, reached out of her way directly in front of me, pressed the button for 12 and sternly barked '12' in the process. Now, sure I am not always the friendliest person, but certainly I am trustworthy enough looking that there was no fear of me hearing her say '12' and then dastardly pressing '10'. So what's her deal? Why wouldn't she trust me to select her floor in an elevator? I know this is somewhat common, as it's happened to me before. And it bugs me enough to become today's pet peeve.

Here's another tune I've heard on Humble and Fred - apparently it's been around for a while and was featured in a Boost Mobile commercial - both of which are new to me. Anyway, the only streaming version I could find was on Spotify and it doesn't work in Canada, but I think you can find this on iTunes too. Enjoy!

I'm going to try and keep track of all the awesome music that I've heard on the Humble and Fred podcast. If you don't know who Humble and Fred are, I'd suggest checking them out for some funny, irreverent humour. Plus your daily dose of fart jokes.
Anyway, Nights & Weekends was one of the more recent bands I've heard on their show and I'm really enjoying their music. Check out their live version of "Never Let You Down"
