Angie Stardust behind the scenes of City of Lost Souls (1983) dir. Rosa Von Praunheim
Fraulein Stardust was a Black transsexual lesbian who began her career as a drag queen and singer around the age of 14, performing with the Jewel Box Revue and frequenting Club 82 in New York City. She was rejected when she began taking estrogen, and in the early 1970s she relocated to Hamburg and became a citizen of Germany. There she would go on to star in several films and open her own establishment, Angieâs Nightclub, where she performed nightly and earned her moniker as the Big Mama of Soul. She would also find companionship in a number of butch lovers over the years. Though she passed in 2007, her club is still going and well loved by the nightlife scene in Hamburg.

Hey, just a heads up to everyone who follows my blog: if you see anybody with an orange and black square in their bio, theyâre a transphobe.
Idiots on TikTok have been coming out in droves in support of some bullshit identity called âsuper straightâ which basically means that theyâre only attracted to cis people đ Theyâre trying to wedge themselves into the LGBTQ+ community and their claim is that itâs phobic toward them to say that theyâre transphobic⌠itâs just a gargantuan cishet headache.
So, to reiterate: orange and black squares = the âsuper straightâ flag = transphobic dogwhistle. Stay safe everyone!

it worries me so much that thereâs been this (mostly unintentional) culture built up around coming out, to where young lgbt kids are putting themselves in danger at school and at home because they donât want to âlive a lie.â i just want to say, i came out when i was 15 and it created a lot of difficulties in my life that i could have avoided by waiting until i was older. it isolated me socially, it exposed me to homophobia from my parents, my family, my teachers, and my classmates at the most important developmental stages of my own confidence and sense of self⌠closeted people are not living a lie. closeted people are surviving. donât let anyone pressure you to come out before youâre ready. donât put yourself at risk when you donât have to.

the way every nonbinary community iâve ever seen online is either outright unwelcome to transfems, or calls nonbinary transfems trans women or eccentric gay men instead of nonbinary, and even if they pass the first two, every use of ânonbinary languageâ is strictly âtransmasc*** languageâ and their examples of nonbinary experiences and discussions are about, again, largely things only transmascs experience (ie. the number of posts for nb people that mention binding but not tucking). the oversaturation of tme nonbinary people and how that reflects in these circles has alienated transfem nbs, but most transmasc nb people would never consider themselves capable of transmisogyny, would they?Â

trans death will always feel different. when you are a trans creator it's very hard to find what you see in your reflection in the every day world you live in, you even get to a point where you think if you try to catch your breath and take a break people will immediately lose respect for you and come for what makes you vulnerable in the eyes of the majority because you are not doing what you're expected to do (to entertain, to be a literal clown) but you will always have other trans creators and non creators to fall on. even when you are not creating you are enough in my eyes, just existing will be enough for people to love you and care about you, i know i will. it's a different kind of bond based on very personal experiences that are anything but universal. once you lose someone like that it's gut wrenching, you feel like someone took a big bite of your heart. bless each one of you, everything has been said.

like itâs hard to overstate how much sophieâs passing means. she was a literal musical genius and an icon for trans and queer people. imagine being just 34 and youâve released one critically acclaimed album, sixteen singles, and produced for madonna, kanye west, charli xcx, lady gaga, and a host of other stars - and youâre still underground. thatâs incredible. imagine âbending music production so far that things stop sound like synths and start sounding like physical materialsâ. she was a visionary and laid the foundation of hyperpop and pc music, and the pop/musical landscape of the decade would honestly not have sounded the same without her. she was the blueprint! she inspired so many lgbtq+ people to become comfortable with themselves and to come out and live unapologetically. itâs so upsetting and such a loss.
