PSA FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT ANY OF THE HAIKYUU BOYS AND GIRLS ARE RED FLAGS: HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED THAT MAYBE THEY'RE JUST TEENAGERS WITH AMBITION????
Like yeah, they can sometimes be stupid and dumb and not the most sensitive to other's feelings, BUT MY FUCKING GOD THEY ARE TEENAGERS. WE DO SHITTY THINGS. IT'S HOW WE LEARN. So before y'all go bashing Oikawa or Kuroo or Tsukki or fuck it, I've seen some things about Kenma, remember that they are kids- one, and two- it's not that deep.
Also I've arguably seen people act worse irl. stop making them out to be some toxic bastards, please for the love of god
thanks for coming to my ted talk <3

Tumblr media
stepping out of your cabin, the smell of sea filling your nostrils and warm sunshine hugging your skin; you stretched lazily, trying to shake off the rest of slumber in your body.
“oi, captain! you’re finally awake!”
you turned your head and sent yunjin a sleepy smile. her and chaewon giggled at you. nodding, you decided to take a stroll on your deck and observe your crew.
the girls who greeted you were fixing the ropes and gossiping. as usual, but at least they did their job well.
sakura, the oldest (after you) on the deck and your quartermaster, was sailing while you were asleep. you sent her a wave and she waved back. eunchae and kazuha were listening to taehyun as he walked them through the usage of canons. well, of course they will have to only clean them at first but later on they’ll be able to fix them if necessary. and shoot, like taehyun or yeonjun. they just needed the training.
beomgyu and soobin were out of sight, probably scanning the maps for the next journey. kai wasn’t near, so he probably sat with them and observed them curiously (like he always does).
the youngest members of your crew were cleaning. you all’ve been there so it was nothing strange. sure, they complained but due to their youthful nature and vigour they did the job fast. and fun.
riwoo, jaehyun and leehan were mopping the floor while splashing each other. sungho alongside taesan and woonhak were in charge of food today… which means it might be interesting. and hopefully not burnt, like the last time yeonjun and beomgyu cooked together.
walking up to the railing of the upper deck, where sakura was navigating, a smile spread on your lips.
“we’re close” you breathed out, heart swelling in your chest. your homeland…
you fixed your hat and leaned a bit, admiring the land from afar.
“do you think the boys will be happy?” you asked, turning around. sakura took a deep breath and shrugged.
“no idea… they wanted to leave but it’s been a long time, so maybe they won’t mind a quick visit” she hummed
“it’s been a long time for them, huh? then i wasn’t here in ages” you whined and sakura just let out a laugh.
“you’re ancient, captain”
you were born and raised in hybe, one of the biggest islands. growing up in a poor household, a neighbourhood filled with thieves and poverty made you adapt quickly to such environment. at the age of 6 you started pickpocketing. by the age of 10, you were a quite good – you’d say so yourself – thief. your parents didn’t really care, as long as you brought money or food home.
because of that you wanted some freedom, to start a new life. stories about pirates always fascinated you and you always sneaked into the docks whenever a bigger ship would arrive.
and one day you just snuck on a ship… and stayed there, thanks to the pirates’ kindness. this made you realise they aren’t always the bad guys.
during one of the visits back home, you met the young boys on a street. doing exactly what you did as a kid. you knew how can it affect them negatively so you decided to offer them a somehow better future. and of course they agreed, because y/n of hybe became a famous yet mysterious pirate known here and there. they heard about you; hell, who wouldn’t? besides, you remember when they were born – or more like dropped off by the orphanage next door.
so will they miss their hometown? they weren’t there as long as you… and you… you missed the town, not the people.
arriving at the land, you stepped almost hesitant.
“we’re leaving tomorrow, this time. go have some fun, rats” you grinned and ruffled woonhak’s hair.
you let out a deep sigh and started walking. no, you let your legs lead you.
you found yourself walking amongst the old, sketchy paths of your old town. memories flooding back, too deeply in the nostalgic feeling you failed to realise that another ship docked.
visiting a bar at the end of your small journey when the sun has set, you ordered a glass of rum and sat back at the dark corner of the room. thinking about your next trip, you watched the people there. most of them were just drunkards or hazard addicted people.
then you frowned upon noticing – or thinking you noticed – a familiar face. it was a quick movement so you weren’t sure. maybe it was someone else…? but still, you had to remain cautious. you need to return to the ship tomorrow anyways.
playing with the dagger that you stuck into the wooden table, you took a sip of the alcoholic beverage.
you’ve come to a conclusion this may be your homeland, but certainly not your home. your place is on the ship, with your crew–
“well shiver me timbers, who do we have here?”
you looked up lazily, knowing the voice too damn well.
“jihoon” you sighed, meeting the man’s gaze. he sat down in front of you, placing his own glass. also filled with rum. you pointed at it “amongst all those things we disagree on, at least our alcohol taste matches”
he tsked and took a look around.
“what are you doing here?” you hissed, leaning forward. jihoon observed the gold coin dangling on the necklace on your neck.
“what are YOU doing here?” he back fired, ebony irises almost black due to the faint light.
“it’s literally my island. you’re not from here, so stop acting like a local” you grunted and tightened your fingers on the wooden grip of your dagger.
“we agreed not to cross paths ever again” he said, voice low. you let out an amused huff, looking away. the door from the bar were constantly opening and closing.
“i remember. i said i’ll kill you when i see you next time” you said through clenched teeth. jihoon swiftly grabbed the dagger and started sticking it between his fingers, palm flat on the wooden table.
“i’d like to see you try. from what i know, you rather barely visit your home. so why you’re here?” he asked.
jihoon was your… enemy? any other pirate was your enemy, technically. but he… he was a real bastard. always stealing your treasure, almost as if he knew where exactly are you heading to next. and he’s cocky about it to – leaving notes and visible tracks. last time he went way too far.
he sunk your ship.
luckily, no one got harmed but the damage was done in your heart. the black cat, your beloved ship has kissed the sea’s bottom. since then you promised yourself to get revenge – and that’s why you may or may not insisted on visiting hybe.
because apart from you being the island’s hidden gem, there’s also illegal but very effective gun powder and explosives business. bang sihyuk, the driving force behind it owned you a favour so–
wait. if jihoon’s here, then he must have discovered it.
your eyes snapped back at him just when you felt the cold metal tip poking at your exposed throat. the dangerous glint in jihoon’s eye and handsome smirk made you even more angry. because he just played you and read like an open book.
“hah… oh, y/n. you’re real cute sometimes” he cooed, tilting his head. your dagger in his hand pointing at your throat. for seven seas, this is humiliating. you felt a trickle of blood run down your skin “i could easily kill you right now. quietly and quickly, but where’s fun in that–“
before you said anything, someone pulled jihoon back. and you as well. cold metal suddenly making contact with your wrists made you gasp.
“well, well, well… who do we have here… y/n l/n, lee jihoon. the two most wanted captains”
you turned around and if looks could kill– well, jihoon would already be dead months ago. and this man too.
“i’m the chief of city guards, kim namjoon. and you two are under arrest. with no way out.” the man crossed his arms and grabbed your chin, tilting it up.
namjoon. you remember him. he was…
“by tomorrow you will hang, together. and i’ll get a promotion. oh woah, who knew this day will end so well…” he smiled.
“namjoon?” you breathed out. your partner in crime, quite literally. he helped you steal when you were younger.
“officer namjoon to you. i’ve cut ties with you, y/n the moment you ran away. and now, look at me and look at you. you’re a shame to the society” namjoon huffed and let go of you harshly, causing you to stumble and fall onto jihoon. then he spat, right in front of your shoes “fucking pirates… take them to the arrest”
“this is all your fault, moron!” you grunted, kicking the metal bar of your arrest.
of course they had to put you in one cell with jihoon.
“mine? wha– this is ridiculous!” he scoffed, hands crossed on his broad chest.
“if you minded your business, you wouldn’t draw attention to me or you” you pointed at him and were met with silence. he knew you’re right “great. we were supposed to leave tomorrow? or today? there’s no bloody light in here”
“my crew will save me” he snickered.
“as if mine won’t. i bet they’ll be here soon” you mumbled and sat down on the cold floor because he was sitting at the bench. or something that was supposed to be it. he tsked and stood up.
“you should go to sleep” he murmured quietly, awkwardly standing next to the bench.
“no”
the man let out a deep sigh, eyes tracing the walls. the only source of light was a small lamp lit on the corridor wall.
“go to sleep” jihoon said, voice more stern this time.
“why? so you could arrange me in my sleep? no thank you” you huffed, pulling your knees closer to your chest and resting your chin on them.
“no. so you could finally shut up” he mumbled. obviously. it’s not like he cared. certainly not because the floor was cold and you would be cramped if you fell asleep on it.
you let out a small sigh, eyes observing the moths that gathered next to the lamp.
“i can’t believe i’ll hang in my hometown with my enemy” you muttered, closing your eyes.
when you woke up, you were laying on the bench. immediately sitting up straight, you startled jihoon out of his slumber. on the floor.
“why did you do move me? i’d cut–“ you started
“my hands off. yeah, yeah. that’s why i did it while you were sleeping” he yawned, arms shooting up to stretch lazily “i figured you’d want to get some sleep for the last time in your life”
you were about to say something when you heard footsteps. in no time five guards arrived.
without saying anything, they grabbed you out of the cell and handcuffed you both. sending jihoon a confused stare, he shook his head.
your legs weren’t really cooperating, so the guards dragged you along. after a long, monotonous journey in the dungeons you finally stepped outside.
the sudden sun blinded you both, especially after so much time spent in the darkness. then you realised you’re being walked down to the platform with hangman’s noose already prepared for the both of you. one walk downstairs and you’ll die because of a public hanging… and bloody hell, that’s a lot of people–
you halted your movements, digging your heels into the floor and pushing back.
“i refuse to believe this” you let out an airy laugh and caught jihoon’s shocked expression.
the guard suddenly slapped you; the impact so powerful that you fell on the floor. you felt your eyes water and cheek sting.
“yah! what do you think you’re doing?! you’re a guard and you hit a woman?! pathetic scum” jihoon hissed and nudged the guards that held him.
he kneeled down, pressing his head against yours. before they lifted him back up, you felt his breath fan over your skin
“i have an idea, just trust me” he whispered “are you alright?”
you nodded and jihoon got dragged away. then you heard another slap.
“she’s a pirate, i don’t see a reason why i shouldn’t hit her–“ the guard started.
you got lifted by two men and watched jihoon spit on the man in front of him. a smirk of satisfaction painted on his lips as the guard’s eye twitched.
“next time try punching someone your size, eh?” he cooed and the guard slapped his other cheek. his face turned to you, eyes squeezed shut.
“jihoon!” you yelped, jumping to him. before the guards could yank you back, jihoon turned around and spat at the man in front of him again. then he kicked the man with full force, so he fell down the stairs. using the distraction, he swiftly (almost as if he had experience) put his handcuffed hands in front of him by bending his knees and quickly moving them to the front. you did the same, definitely less gracefully and almost losing your balance.
then you felt his hand awkwardly grab yours and–
“go!”
you ran down the stairs with him, jumping over the man at the bottom. the rest of the guards followed you, shouting and screaming.
jihoon ran through the crowd, pushing with no hesitation whatsoever. his grip on your hand remained steady, scared to lose you.
“which way? you know the city better!” he asked, turning his head back.
“this way!” you ordered, leading him to the right.
even if the guards will follow you to the poorest place on whole town, there’s a plenty of good hiding spots. running through the houses and dirty streets, people watching you and pointing fingers.
you arrived at the local market. it wasn’t too sanitary but that wasn’t the most important thing right now.
you ran up to the butcher whom you knew, distress all over your face.
“yah, hoseok! would you mind?” you asked, putting your hands on the table. he gave you a weird look but without hesitation – and with terrifying force and speed – cut your handcuffs with his chopper, covered in blood.
“your lover boy too?” he asked unbothered, almost as if he was trying to sell one more pound of meat instead of helping the prisoners escape. you nodded. once your hands were separated there was a sudden noise
“they went that way!”
jihoon turned around and saw the guards in armours that shone in the daylight. you were about to bend and dive under the stall when he dragged you away, next to the stall with flowers.
“i deeply apologise” he breathed out, the guards’ shouts becoming louder. they’re approaching rather rapidly and…
“about my ship?” you furrowed your brows. the men will walk directly next to you and he’s…
“no” he scoffed and before you could realise, he spun you around and leaned against the wooden bar supporting the stall “about this”
the men ran next to you as you felt jihoon’s lips crash on yours. one hand cupped your cheek, the other was resting next to your head. the kiss was chaotic yet somehow soft, his lips rough and teasing like sea salt.
you kissed him back, realising what was his plan. you pulled him closer, trying to hide your faces as much as possible.
the kiss turned more passionate, your fingers tightening on his linen shirt. the steps and shouts started fading away.
jihoon stopped and leaned back but not too far. head buried in the side of your neck, hot breath fanning over your skin. your stomach was making flips, almost like you were sea sick.
“they’re gone… i think” you breathed out, scanning the market.
the sellers chatted between themselves, fixing the products that have fallen due to the rapid movements of a bunch of men in armour.
“what… uhm, what was that?” you whispered. he rose his head up, boyish smirk blooming on his lips.
“dunno” he shrugged “i just wanted to kiss you”
“oh fuck off” you grunted, trying to walk away. but jihoon had you caged between his arms and the wooden bar. you stared at him – partly in disbelief, partly in amusement… and slightly in participation.
“are you alright though? that bastard slapped you pretty hard” jihoon asked, worry in his eyes. your fingers lingered on the cheek you were hit on and then you shook your head.
“it’s fine. it’s been worse, like having a dagger pointed at my neck” you snickered and hesitantly brought your hands to his red cheeks “what about you?”
“been worse” he repeated after you “although…”
you suddenly pecked his cheek, then the other one. using his taken aback state, you escaped his hold by walking under his arm.
“hope it will soothe the pain. thank you for helping me escape” you hummed “even though i take back what i said about killing you next time i see you… be on guard, jihoon. your ship will sink”
“yeah. we could kiss next time” he smiled nonchalantly and watched you walk away.
some part of him wanted to stop you but he knew you’ll cross paths anyway. and then he’ll make you stay, maybe for a little longer. and maybe his heart will stop fluttering like sails on a strong gust of wind.
wait.
his ship will sink?

✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 chan ✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
Chan's warm hands are in yours, fingers tangled with one another tightly- like the sturdy roots of an ancient tree.
“Baby,” he calls out softly, and you can already feel tears well up in your eyes at the tenderness in his voice. His thumb reaches out instinctively to wipe the lone tear that managed to escape. His right hand remains on your cheek, cradling it gently.
“Seungmin always liked to joke that I was nearly half-fifty-two. Then half fifty-three on my next birthday,” he starts, as a faint giggle escapes your lips. “That's how I counted time too, with the different days I lived… That is until I met you.” He pauses, a shaky breath leaving him and crashing onto you. “Suddenly I was no longer twenty-six. I was one week old since I met you. Three months since I’ve loved you. And then five years since you changed my life. Years no longer marked the passage of my time. It was you who marked the passage of me.”
“I always had this idea in my head, that I was only worth loving easily. If I diluted all my problems, concealed all my flaws and insecurities to please the ones around me, only then was I deserving of love. But you...” His eyes soften, even more so than they were before. “But you loved me, you loved me on my happy days, and on my darkest ones. You loved me, even when I couldn't understand it, even when I couldn't see what was there to care for in me. So, thank you, for showing me that I am worthy of love, simply because I am me. Thank you for choosing to be patient with me. You don't always know what to do to help, nor do I, but you try, and I try, and isn't that what love is, in the end? To take time out of your day to try, for the person you love?” His voice cracks, as sudden tears wash over his rosy cheeks.
“And I love you. I love to love you. And I cannot not love you, not when my heart beats to the melody of your existence. I promise that even when I’m eighty, I’ll always try to love you better, softer, gentler. I'll never stop trying to be worthy of your love, to be worthy of being yours. Only ever yours.”
✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 minho ✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
“Angel,” Minho smiles softly, the back of his hand brushing tenderly against your cheek. “I love you, so so much. You know that, right? I probably don't say it as much as I feel it, because I always do. Every second of my existence is spent loving you. Even when I’m not fully awake, and still floating in that hazy space between dreams and consciousness, I can still feel it deep within me that I love you. It is the one thing that ties me back to life itself.”
“And I never... I never imagined that I could adore someone this much. So much that I always think of you, always miss you, even when you're near. Because I feel as if I missed out on years of loving you, back when we didn't know each other. And I- I want to love you, hard enough so it'd feel as if I’ve done it for your entire life.” He's blinking repeatedly, you're surprised he can still read the words scribbled on his paper. You can sense that the tears glistening in his eyes are on the verge of spilling, so you grab his hand and squeeze it gently. 'I'm here', you silently say- he understands.
“Thank you for holding my hand. Now, and every time I’ve needed you. Thank you for being here for me, with me. I... I always thought that people like me were destined to be alone. But- but being with you feels like I’m with myself. There's no need for me to pretend. Thank you for not making me pretend anymore. You are my mirror, you and I are one, and I- I hope...” He brings your hand to his chest, where his heart beats wildly- 'stay with me' it sings to you.
“I hope you can always feel my love for you. Now and when we're too old sitting on the patio of our home, and my hand is still in yours. Because my heart belongs to you, it beats for you and I breathe for you.”
✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 changbin ✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
“You're breathtaking,” Changbin whispers in awe, his eyes tracing the contours of your body with each lingering look, like the brush of a skilled artist.
“So are you,” you giggle, but he shakes his head vehemently, drawing nearer to you. “You are the most beautiful human I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I can't believe I’m marrying you,” he chuckles in disbelief, before grabbing your hand and twirling you around, showing you off for all to see.
“Look at who I’m marrying!” he shouts with bursting excitement, as he dips you down, his nose grazing yours gently, a soft touch amidst the loud exclamations around you.
“Still sure you want to marry him?!” Seungmin shouts from his seat and you giggle, wrapping your arm around Changbin’s waist. “I do!”
Your laughter gradually fades, as Changbin clears his throat. His head is tilted to the side, a small, incredulous smile drawn on his lips as he contemplates the loveliness of this moment- of marrying you.
“My baby. My beautiful baby. I think this is the happiest day of my life. But again, every day is a happy one with you. I... I've never known that love could be unconditional, that loving someone would feel as simple as breathing. Until you. Loving you doesn't feel like I’m taking something out of my being, and giving it to you. But rather, I’m nurturing something within me, a blossoming tender emotion that grows within my soul. Loving you...” he steps forward, cradling your cheeks in his warm hands. “Loving you makes me happy, immensely happy. Because you are the sunset that makes people stop in their tracks to admire it. You are the beautiful scenery that gives hope to everyone who witnesses it. And you make me feel alive. More than I’ve ever been before you.”
“And I promise...” he pauses, wide eyes trying their best to embrace each feature drawn on your face. “I promise to love you more today than I did yesterday. I promise to shoulder the pain that slips through the cracks in your heart, the one that you try so hard to conceal from me. I promise to hear your silent cries and to hug you until your soul stops bleeding. I promise to see you, even when you try to hide from me. I promise to hurt if it means you'll feel less pain. And I-” his voice trembles as it washes over your old scars, delicately erasing them from your memory.
“I will love you. When the pain seems too big, I will love you. And when your happiness shines the brightest, I will love you. I am madly, irrevocably, desperately in love with you. My heart is tangled in yours.”
✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 hyunjin ✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
“My love,” Hyunjin begins before abruptly stepping forward, pressing his lips onto yours. The kiss is dizzying and sweet, it reminds you of the figs he hand-fed you yesterday- honey dripping down his tongue onto yours. “I’m sorry,” he whispers once he steps back. “I couldn't help myself. You're so pretty,” he admits sheepishly, and you giggle, too in love to ever mind.
“Where was I? Right, hi, my love. Writing these vows was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Not because I didn't know what to say, but there is so much I wish to express, to talk about when it comes to you. How my soul seems to burn for you. How you’re my last love, but also my first, because I don’t think I’ve ever truly loved before you. Not when you are love itself. But I… I found this journal entry, from four years ago. And I want to read it to you.” He clears his throat, a useless attempt to erase the quiver in his voice.
“I used to believe that love was meant to be grandiose. Extravagant gestures and confessions that will seem too magical for any ordinary human. That’s what I craved; a love so big it would overtake my being completely. But... But tonight, you played with my hair as I laid my head on your lap. And we held hands while drinking warm tea on your couch. And it felt enough, more than enough for me to lead a beautiful life. One worth remembering, one worth commemorating. All because it’s with you.
I realize now that I no longer have to search for love all around me, because you hand it to me, so freely, so selflessly. You love me on our extraordinary days and our mundane ones. I never have to second guess it with you. We may be angry, sad, or frustrated, but the love always remains. It's the one emotion that ties us together, that anchors us to one another. My compass. You.
I don't think I ever 'fell' in love with you. Because a fall can never be gentle, it always hurts, even if for a little. And you must always get up afterward, in a minute, in an hour, in a few years. You can't stay down forever. But this, what I feel for you, the emotion that makes my heart beat is tender and soft. It feels like walking inside a home where the light is golden, the windows are wide open, and every past version of me finally finds what it was looking for all along. I want to stay in you for a while. For a long time. For the rest of my life. And I’ll do whatever it takes so you’d let me.
P.S: I am sleeping with a light heart tonight. I hope that, for as long as I’m breathing, you will always too. You deserve it, more than anyone who has ever walked this earth.”
There is a long pause, as Hyunjin’s words hang over the air; they knock the breath out of you but simultaneously fill you with life. You step forward, swiping away his tears gently. He brings your hand to his mouth, soft rosy lips brushing against your knuckles.
“I guess I've been writing my vows since the day I met you,” he smiles softly, delicate love overflowing from him. “Every painting, every journal entry, was to you, by you, for you. Thank you for being my home. Thank you for choosing to love me, every day. Thank you for allowing me to witness the magic that is you. I will forever and always orbit around you.”
✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 han ✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
“Have I ever told you that you're my favorite artist, sweetheart?” Han’s voice is gentle, as he begins speaking. It reminds you of the waves lapping at your feet when he proposed to you. “I feel as if, as soon as you stepped into my life, you began to paint it with the most vibrant colors. The ones I’ve been desperately longing for. Because it is hard… to see the world as a rainbow when you've felt in blacks and whites for so long.” Han’s gaze softens as he spots the tears now trailing down your cheeks. “Shh, don't cry, honey. Or I’ll start crying too, and I don't think I can stop then,” he whispers and you nod, a breathy giggle escaping your lips.
“My mind used to be a scary place. But it no longer is, because it's now filled with thoughts of you. I like to imagine that you planted yourself a little garden there, vibrant tulips and roses. And these flowers may wither down. But they will always bloom again, watered by my love for you, and your love for me. And I hope you know that I... I'll always be there for you too. When the thoughts in your head won't quiet down, I’ll talk for as long as it takes to distract you. And when you want to sit in silence, I’ll be near you, holding your hand. And when you want to be alone, I’ll be there, lingering around the door, within your reach. In whichever shape you want me, you'll get me. I am here, I won't ever leave you.”
“And now I’m crying too” Han chuckles softly, and through the shimmering veil of your tears, you cling to his hand to see.
“I really, really don't know what I ever did to deserve you. But I know I’ll try my entire life to be worthy of you. For as long as I’m here then there will always be someone who loves you. Someone who is proud of you; for breathing, for trying, for never giving up. Please never forget that. You are my strength, my peace, my home. You are everything I have ever dreamed of in human form.”

The golden rays reflect on Felix’s eyes as he looks down at his paper. A summer wedding- he insisted, his only condition to you. It is ridiculous, you wanted to tell him, to expect it to be any season but summer when he is the sun.
“Hi baby,” he grins, twinkling brown eyes captivating yours. “God, I’m so nervous. I rehearsed this ten times in front of chan. I think he learned it by heart now.” You giggle, as Chan’s laughter travels across the venue. “I’m not usually afraid of speaking in front of people. But you aren't anyone. I guess that's why I’m nervous. You look really beautiful today. This isn't in my papers, I just wanted to tell you. Because you are. You're always beautiful but today you're absolutely breathtaking and I can't believe I’m marrying you. Thank you for saying yes,” he pauses, a breathy chuckle escaping him. “I’m rambling, aren't I?” you nod, a wide grin on your face. You love him.
“Okay, I’m sorry. I... I'm known as the massage fairy, right? I think I might've massaged almost everyone present in this room.” The loud cheers of your friends signal that they agree.
“I used to, I mean, I do it because you get knots in places your hands can't reach, and it feels nice, for someone to ease the ache of your muscles for you. And I always thought that massages were strictly physical. That it just undoes tension in your body, nothing more, nothing less. And I never told you, because it sounded silly in my head. But I knew... I knew I loved you when you massaged my shoulders for the first time. Do you remember, baby?” he asks, a gentle smile gracing his lips. “That was two months into our relationship. Which is fairly early, but time means nothing when it comes to you.”
“My shoulders were sore, and when I told you, you stood behind me instantly. You started to massage my shoulders and I almost cried right there and then. Because your fingers worked delicately, and it felt as if you were kneading your love into my body. You lifted an invisible weight off of me that day, an emotional one. I didn't even know it was there until you touched me. That's how I knew you were different, to me. That your touch wasn't strictly physical, that it reached into depths of my soul, that it soothed aches I’m not even fully aware of,” he pauses, drawing in a deep breath.
“You already know this, but I... I never really learned how to deal with sadness, because it all happens so suddenly with me. One bad thought always brings with it ten others and suddenly I am pulled into a pool of horrible feelings. But your hands keep me afloat until I’m ready to swim by myself again. I think... I think you understand my sadness more than I do. Maybe because you're a part of me, two halves of the same heart.” His voice softens at the last word, as unshed tears glimmer in his eyes.
“I hope, I pray, that my hands massaging your sore shoulders would also reach into your soul and heal its ache. And I know I might not make you feel better, instantly, or in a day, or the following one. But I promise that I won't ever leave, even if the bad times stretch forward. I'll be with you, patiently, just as you do to me. I may not understand myself fully, but I know that my soul was crafted to love you. Every atom in me is yours, and that is enough knowledge for me.”
✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 seungmin ✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
You take a step forward, brows knitted in concentration as you carefully readjust Seungmin’s black tie. Your hands then glide to his shoulders, smoothing the fabric of his suit. “Nervous?” You ask, and he responds with a subtle nod, planting a chaste kiss upon your forehead.
“Don’t be. It’s just me.”
“It’s never ‘just you’ to me.” He gently holds your chin, dainty fingers commanding a cascade of butterflies inside you. “Just look at me, okay?” You smile tenderly and he nods, taking a step backward.
Seungmin draws in a deep breath, eyes traveling over the entire room before finally settling on you.
“I’ve always liked math. I liked the security that numbers gave me, the exactitude of this science. Because one plus one equals two, and no change in our world, however grand it may be, could ever alter it. I liked things that I could grasp, that I could wrap my head around fully. Tangible rules and formulas. They were my safety net. Until you came into my life. You were the wildest variable I’ve ever encountered, and being near you made me crave things I’ve never known. You pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I wasn't afraid to fall into the unknown, because I knew you'd be there to catch me. So, you became my risks and paradoxically, my safety net, all in one.” He doesn’t look down at his paper- his kind eyes never leave yours, and you’re suddenly the only two humans existing in this world.
“I remember a Tuesday night, two years ago. You slept over at my house, and we didn't do anything special. We just talked a lot, about everything and nothing, just saying whatever crossed our minds. And then you dozed off on my chest. You looked so... Peaceful in my arms, and I was surprised you weren't woken up by my wild heartbeat. Because I suddenly realized that I wanted a forever with you, right there and then.” You both step forward at the same time, hands reaching out blindly to hold one another.
“I’ve always found it a bit weird to crave something to last for a duration that we humans cannot grasp. Everything we know is ephemeral. Everything has a beginning and an end. So, I never really believed in forever, until you. Forever exists because I can't see myself ever not loving you,” a faint hiccup courses through him, as he looks up at the sky- an earnest attempt to stop his tears from falling. It is useless, because once he looks at you again, emotion overtakes him, rippling from him in waves.
“Even- even when we're both no longer here, and my body can no longer contain my soul. Even if I only roam in space eternally, as a small speck of light, my destination would always be you, because my love for you would be the only thing my soul would remember. The core foundation of my being, the essence of who I am is my love for you, and even if everything around me fades, the love for you will stay.” His forehead presses onto yours, a last whisper, only meant for you- “My eternity is you.”
✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹 jeongin ✮ ⋆ ˚。𖦹
Jeongin's lips graze the inside of your wrist, right where your pulse dances in fervor- for him alone. He looks self-assured, as he lets go of your hand to take out a paper from his pocket. But there is a faint blush tainting his cheeks; it travels down his neck when he clears his throat.
“Baby,” he starts, voice hoarse from barely hidden emotion- the notes of it settle inside your heart. “I don't know where we will be many years down the road, or what we will be doing. But I know that there are things that won't change between us. I know that I’ll listen to all your rants about your favorite show, and I’ll buy you ice cream when you're craving it at 3 a.m. I will still buy two bottles of my shampoo because you love to use mine more than yours. And I like it when you carry a part of me with you, even in such a subtle way. I will still give you my jacket, even when you insist you aren't cold, but I can tell, because I know you. I will...” He sucks in a deep breath, as his vision grows blurry from the tears in his waterline.
“I will make you coffee in the morning, exactly how you like it, down to how many ice cubes you use. I will warm up your towel as you shower and I will fold your laundry because I know you hate doing it. And I- I will hold your hand when we cross the road, and in crowded places, and in the lines of every coffeeshop we’ll go to. I will run my fingers down your spine when you're about to sleep, and I will-” Jeongin's tears splatter across the paper, smudging its black ink. His lips are quivering, as the paper shakes in his hands.
“I will kiss your tiny bruises and remind you to breathe on- on days where...” Jeongin crumples the paper in his hand as he finally looks at you. He’s crying, a stream of tears trailing down his cheeks like a floodgate that isn't planning on stopping. “On days where it seems impossible to.” He finishes, the words he's written long forgotten by him. He didn't need to read them when he had you in front of him- the sole holder of his love.
“And I will hug you tight on nights when your sadness feels bigger than what your body can contain. And when words don't seem to make sense in your head, I’ll- I’ll listen to you, I’ll understand you, I’ll learn you. And I will love you. I will love you and I’ve loved you and I love you. And I- I wish there was a word bigger than love to describe how I feel for you. Because four letters never seem enough when it comes to you. But I am yours, body, heart, and soul. Wherever you go I follow. Till the ends of the earth, I'll be there.”

when you call txt pretty boy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
bf!member x reader, fluff © equalheart REPOST FROM HYKAI ⋆ ࣪. ୧ ♡ ୨ ִ ۫ ⁎ . hope you enjoy, any error please correct me.
♡ 수빈 (SOOBIN)
— "Hello, my pretty boy!" you chirp out when coming home, watching Soobin immediately stick to you like glue. His large hands came to wrap around your waist, enveloping you in a tight hug from behind. He really did miss you and had been waiting for you, and when you said that, let's just say you melted his heart completely. "Your what?" he asks, with his iconic smile on display. "My pretty boy." you smile, ruffling his hair while he bends down, his chin over your shoulder, to look you in the eyes.
♡ 연준 (YEONJUN)
— Yeonjun had invited you to watch him model since he didn't wanna leave you home alone today. When you got there, he left into a room to get his makeup done. You whipped out your phone and waited for him to come back. After a bit, he walked out and headed infront of the camera. Everyone was welcoming him and saying 'hi' as they passed by. You watched his every move. This concept was much brighter than his other concepts. It had more of a spring vibe to it? he looked like a garden fairy. When he went on for a break, he went up to you, leaning down to reach eye level with you—who was sitting down. "Jun, you look amazing." you comment, and he smiles at you, causing your butterflies to scatter in your stomach. "You're such a pretty boy." you add, and see his smile become wider while he looks away. "Heyyy, don't say that." he says, still looking away from you. "Or what? you questions him, and he chuckles, reuniting his gaze to you. He leans down and gives you a peck on the lips. "Nothing bad of course. but i'll make sure by the end of today, we'll both have this lipstick on." He says, pointing to his lips.
♡ 범규 (BEOMGYU)
— Beomgyu was 'sleeping' when you came back home. He had only put on this act only to see your response and of course, he wanted to scare you. when you see him 'passed out' on the couch, you smile to yourself and walk over to him. "Wow, I can't believe you fell asleep before me today. congratulations, Choi." you say. you figure talking outloud wouldn't be bad since 1. He's asleep anyways and 2. You are talking to him. "but you are so cute like this. What a pretty boy." you sit by him, smiling while shifting some of his hair out of his face. Beomgyu is trying to contain his smile, and his heart beat had become rapid. You always managed to make him feel like a crushing teenager. He almost broke out into laugher before grabbing your hand with a loud "BOO!" which, honestly, almost shook the soul out of you. You scolded him for startling you, which he apologized for by cuddling you and digging his face into your neck. "Y/n.. do you really think i'm pretty?" he asks coyly, and you smile knowing he heard you earlier. "Of course you are. you're my pretty boy."
♡ 태현 (TAEHYUN)
— Taehyun had taken you out for dinner right after a promotion for their new album. You both went out but since it was so sudden, he still had his makeup on. His lip tint was rubbing off, and his eyelids still had a bit of a pink sparkle to them. He was sitting across from you eating his food until he noticed your eyes boring into his face. "Y/n, what're you doing?" he asks, wearing his bright smile. "Just looking." You answer. "At what?" he asks, filling some more food into his mouth. "At how lovely kang Taehyun looks." you sigh out, looking down and playing with your food before grabbing some onto your fork. "He's such a pretty boy." you add, now putting the food into your mouth, chewing carefully. He looks up and smiles at you, pulling away from the table to lean back into his seat. "Yeah. I heard his girlfriend is pretty too, huh? a pretty boy and pretty girl together." He says.
♡ 휴닝카이 (HUENINGKAI)
— "You're so pretty, Kai." you say, smiling brightly at your boyfriend. He was amazing; the whole package I can't believe I just wrote that. "I know I am." He teases back, leading a small giggle to drop from both of your mouths. "Yeah, you're my pretty boy." you say, grabbing his face in your hands. You give him a butterfly kiss, rubbing both of your noses together before pulling away. You see his cheeks are glowing a dusty red, and you give him a kiss on each side.

SYNOPSIS: Watching Soobin fall into the hands of popularity when going into college broke you. You've made many sacrifices to see him happy and be by his side in general. So when he pushes you away, you wonder if he’ll ever reciprocate your undying love.
INCLUDES: nerd!soobin x troublemaker!reader, angst, fluff, slow burn, violence, alcohol consumption, bestfriends to lovers, arin from oh my girl (she’s a bitch in here sorry😭)
WC: 3k
TAGLIST: @forever-in-the-sky2 @yizki
THE WEEKND EVENT MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You and Soobin were like Yin and Yang. While you were the Yin he was your Yang, and vice versa.
Soobin was always a quite and shy boy growing up, which unfortunately made him a main target for bullying. No matter what you never let some stupid boys pick on Soobin. He’s said it himself multiple times, he was never one for violence.
So it was always a wonder to people how you and him were inseparable. You were loud, always getting into trouble for fun, and just an extrovert overall. While Soobin was down to earth, shy, and an introvert. As the both of you got older the dynamic was still there.
That was until he got a major growth spurt, was taller than you, and had some muscle to him. Even though his appearance changed he was still that timid boy you grew up with.
The downside of your best friend going through puberty was he truly did not understand the power he held. By that, you had meant how attractive he’d got. You always found Soobin adorable and to be honest you still did. But if you were like the million girls at college who didn’t know him, he just looked like everyone’s dream boy. Tall, super hot, and kind.
This didn’t help that you had a raging crush on the guy ever since high school. You always told yourself he would never choose you since you were basically a delinquent. It was a mystery on how you were still in school at this point.
Tumblr media
“You failed the test again?” Soobin pouted as he held your backpack around his shoulder. A lollipop adorned your mouth as you groaned.
“I told you Soob I only like English class.” He rolls his eyes.
“You should’ve chose an English major then.” He grumbled.
“Hey Soobin!” He turns behind him and you stop walking. It was a guy running up to him, which you recognized when he got closer. Ji Changmin also known as Q around campus. Soobin lights up dabbing his friend up, Changmin side-eyes you and returns his gaze back to Soobin.
“Me and the group were gonna go out to eat later, you should come!”
“I’d love to but I promise I’d help her.”
Soobin smiles jerking his head towards you. You shift on your feet as you feel his gaze rest on you. His glare is judging, which gets your brows to furrow. Starting to feel like a little bit of a burden.
“Oh.” He replies raking his eyes along your form. “Maybe next time then.” Soobin nods, continuing to walk.
“Look at you making friends.” You laugh, smacking his back. He groans, rubbing it. Yet this feeling of dread washes over you and you start to feel guilty. “You know, you can go Soob, I’ll figure something out.” You suck on your lollipop and he bumps shoulders with you.
“I already made plans with you.” He grins.
You should've known you guys weren't gonna study, you guys never did. It was never Soobin's fault though, you were good at distracting him and convincing him not to do work.
So now here you guys were splayed out on your bed, Soobin on his phone, and face masks adorning your guy's faces.
His head was on your lap and you were braiding parts of his hair. He slides his screen to camera mode and begins taking pictures of you completely off guard.
"Soob, you better delete those." You murmur and he just giggles, zooming on your face.
"You look so pretty though." He smiles again, turning the phone towards you.
You're taken aback as you look at yourself. You weren't even looking at his hair but you were looking at him, the fact that he caught this on camera made you flush, rushing to grab his phone.
"Delete it!" You yell and he laughs, falling back against your bed.
"Never." He smiles, you don't even realize you've crawled on top of him.
You pout, finally giving up, when you come to the realization that you're now on his lap you scurry off. He looks a little confused as to why you're so embarrassed right now but he smiles, finding the whole ordeal cute.
"Stop looking at me like that." You turn away and look away from him.
It was always hard to look away from Soobin. The way his dimples showed up when he'd smile so big or the way his eyes turned into crescents when he laughed.
“You say that yet you’re the on staring.” He snickers and you get up to leave.
“I hate you!” He’s right in front of you, pulling your face mask off.
“No you don’t, now come on.” He skips away, making you flush.
Tumblr media
It was no surprise that Soobin’s friends didn’t take a liking to you. However, you didn’t really care because you didn’t like them either.
They were constantly crashing yours and Soobin’s hangouts or stealing him away. Yet this time you finally had enough.
You were particularly excited for today because you hadn’t hung out in a while. (Due to him hanging with his other friends).
You bought him tteokbokki and the both of decided to have a small picnic. Simple and relaxing. Is what you thought it would be.
“Soobin!” Someone yells, he quickly turns his head to find Arin, a smile adorning his face.
“Oh hey what’s up.” He blinks, she stands in front of him, totally blocking your view. Your face falls, brows furrowing.
“Let’s go out together.” You roll your eyes at her obviously dramatic high pitched voice.
“Yea sure when?”
It upsets you that he’s talking so casually, as if she didn’t just crash your hangout. Although you didn’t blame Soobin.
“Right now, come on.”
You swear you feel a vein pop on your head and you finally break.
“Can you not see we’re hanging out right now?” You seethe and she slowly turns to you.
“Oh. Didn’t see you.” She replies, glaring at you.
“Well you can leave now.” You roll your eyes and she laughs.
“Soobin wouldn’t want that. Right Soob?”
You breathe out an air of pure astonishment. No way she just used your nickname for him. He looks between you both stuttering over his words.
“Well, no I-”
“Unbelievable.” You tongue at the inside of your cheek, rising to your feet and walking past her.
“Wait! Y/n-”
“Aw look at her throw a fit.” She laughed and you turn around immediately.
“You wanna say something say it right now.” You shove her and she looks offended.
“Don’t touch me you psycho!” She moves to push you back.
When she does you punch her right across the face, causing her to fall on the grass, clutching her nose.
“Y/n! What’s is wrong with you!” Soobin yells, rushing to Arin’s side. She whines and cries making you roll your eyes.
“Fuck you Soobin.” You stomp away from the both of them, clutching your now bruised hand. Your eyes watered as you left the park not looking back once.
Maybe you acted out a little but hey, she knew better than to fuck with the well known self proclaimed “delinquent” at school.
Tumblr media
It had been a week since that incident happened and you haven’t talked to Soobin.
You understood he was allowed to have other friends yes, but you were beginning to see changes in him.
Those changes scared you so much, of course you weren’t against Soobin becoming more confident with himself and leaving his comfort zone.
However he was turning into another basic frat college boy, acting like he was the shit. Which had you beyond confused because this wasn’t him. It sucked even more to watch all this happen from the sidelines.
This time apart from him really made you realize just how much you loved him and how much you needed him in your life.
He’s always played a big role in it and for him to just be gone, with no explanation, no contact, it was killing you.
Part of you wanted to believe he wanted to talk to you but it was just his group of friends that were holding him back. Yet that same saying would ring out through your head.
If he wanted to, he would.
Getting around campus was always easy, no one ever talked to you because of your reputation and you grew accustomed to it.
Aside from Soobin, you didn’t have any friends and you weren’t in the mood to make any either. Your resting bitch face made you less approachable anyways.
Your perfect morning was interrupted by a person you weren’t happy to see at all.
“Oh sorry! I didn’t see where I was—Oh. It’s you.” Arin glares at you, a bandage on her nose.
You smirk at the sight. “Your nose healing fine?” You tilt your head in a taunt and she bites the inside of her cheek.
“You know you made my job way more easier.” She laughed and your brows furrow. “I’m surprised Soobin sticked with someone like you for so long, but now he’s finally seen what a terrible person you are.”
Your eyes flash with hurt and you’re quickly grabbing her by her collar, pulling her towards your face.
“You bitch.” As much as as you tried to sound mad, your voice wavered.
“Be careful now, you don’t wanna cause a scene do you.” She raised her brows in a amusement and click your tongue. Looking around some students had stopped, some just side eyeing the both of you.
You shoved her away from you, immediately going back to you dorm, I guess no morning classes today.
Tumblr media
Throughout the whole day her voice rang throughout your mind, it was driving you crazy.
Did she like him that much she couldn’t stand you being around him? As much as you hated to admit it she was right, Soobin hadn’t talked to you so she basically won.
Pushing your feelings aside it hurt you that he didn’t reach out.
Was this really the end of you guys? You hadn’t even got to tell him you loved him. You made so many sacrifices to protect him.
He was your person, the only one that understood you. It honestly felt like you were going to die with out him. Maybe a little dramatic but he was the one who kept you grounded.
He knew how to calm you down, and deal with all of your temper tantrums. You wanted to tell him just how much he meant to you, but not in a platonic way. Because your feelings were everything but that.
That all seemed stupid now, all those stupid thoughts of you both actually being together down the drain as you plug your earbuds in and slip your shoes on.
So here you were roaming the city at night with your earbuds plugged in. However this didn’t really help forgetting much about Soobin when you guys would do this to.
Hell you were the one who took his pictures for his Instagram post. Every single thing reminded you of him and it frustrated you to no end.
Even the song you were listening to, Vaundy, one of his favorite artists. You groan, continuing to walk through streets.
Tumblr media
Soobin’s laugh fills the table, as waiters and waitresses maneuver around the restaurant. Passing out food, passing out drinks or taking orders.
Soobin sits back with a smile on his face. His friends clicking their shot glasses with big smiles on their faces, another flipping the meat, making sure it was cooked perfectly.
Even though all of this goes on he feels sort of empty. He can’t really explain it but something was missing, someone was missing.
For so long he’d hoped and hoped he’d be able to make a lot of friends. Now that he finally had it, it’s like it didn’t match up to the hype.
Soobin felt like he couldn’t be himself around his friends. He felt like he always had to prove himself somehow. But with you, you truly knew him. And you loved him for just the way he was.
He looks down at his Home Screen, one of his widgets displaying a picture of you.
It was the night where you had both walked around. You both had a photo shoot at a small playground you both found.
You were in one of his hoodies that was way to big for you. You had the biggest smile on your face and he finds himself smiling just because of it.
He heard Arin laugh, “Isn’t that Y/n.” The rest of the group laughs, talking shit on you.
“She’s such a loner.” One of the guys laughs.
Soobin’s head whips up and there you are walking past the restaurant with that “intimidating” look on your face and your earbuds in.
His face immediately softens. He doesn’t know what comes over him, maybe the bit of alcohol in his system but he’s rushing outside, ignoring everyone’s calls for him.
When he exits the restaurant, you’re not to far from him. He almost falls when he begins running to you, he places a hand on your shoulder.
“Y/n-” He’s cut off with a punch to his stomach making him cough and clutch his stomach.
“Soobin?! Shit—I’m sorry are you okay?” You rip your earbuds out, rubbing his back soothingly. “You know you can’t sneak up on me like that.” You mumble and he nods.
Only then do you realize the situation, Soobin is talking to you, he’s actually talking to you. You step away immediately, glancing at the floor.
Soobin stares at you and he feels his eyes start to water. The next thing you know he’s crashing you in his arms. Your eyes widen when you’re met with his chest, his breaths ragged.
“M’sorry, I’m so sorry.” He whispers against your ear. You blink away your tears, an arm patting his back.
“Have you been drinking?” You question and he shakes his head, keeping it tucked away in the crook of your neck.
“Only a couple beers and like some soju.” He mumbles.
“You’re a lightweight Soobin.” You sigh.
It’s weird to have him this close to you again after so long. Even though you miss it, you can’t help the insecurities that wash over you.
Maybe his friends were right. You never deserved Soobin, it was your choice to protect him but he’s all grown up now, what else does he need you for. You were just some fuck up holding him back.
So you blink away your tears, leading him back to your dorm. When you arrived he sat on the couch, and you went in the kitchen to grab him some water. When you come back he’s drifting off, so you tap him.
“You can take my bed Soobin.”
“Soob.” He whispers, his eyes still closed.
“Hm?”
“It’s Soob.” He mumbles again.
You sigh, “Take my bed Soob.” And he smiles, he gets up and waddles to your bed.
You tuck him in and he’s out immediately. You’re crouched beside him, shallow breaths leave him and you move some of his bangs. Feeling tears prick at your eyes you let them fall.
“I’m sorry, I love you so much.” You cry, resting your head against his arm. You leave the room, letting Soobin rest as you take your spot on your couch.
Tumblr media
Soobin wakes up with a raging headache and the scent of delicious food fills his senses. He smiles warmly, but then he jolts awake, looking around.
He takes in that he’s in your room and he blinks confusingly. He makes his way to the kitchen and he finds a very comfy you, dancing and singing with the spatula in your hand as you make eggs.
He doesn’t say anything, yet he just watches you, admiring and adoring you. Even though he’s confused on why he’s here, he’ll never get over you.
“S-Soobin.” You gasp, holding the spatula close to you.
“Why am I here?” His voice comes out harsher than he expects and you look down.
“Uh, you came to me yesterday and you were drunk, so I let you crash here.” You nod, turning back to the food. “You can stay for breakfast if you want but if you don’t then you can leave.”
He sits down on your bar stool, rubbing his palms on his pants. Even though he didn’t remember what happened yesterday, that feeling of longing for you was still there.
He hates that it seemed like you couldn’t be yourself around him since you guys hadn’t talked.
So he speaks, “I’m really sorry, Y/n.” You turn around to protest but he stops you. “No really, I’m a terrible friend for abandoning you for people who don’t even know me. And I’m sorry that this whole situation was what made me realize that I genuinely need you in my life.”
You blink at him, your heart stinging. “You have every right to be upset and I understand if you don’t want to forgive me.” Your eyes don’t lift from the floor yet Soobin is rushing to you when he hears your sniffles. “Hey, why are you crying?” He says worriedly holding your face softly.
“M’not good for you Soobin.” You shut your eyes, it hurt you so much to let the words come out. “Arin’s right. I’m such a fuck up and you’re so perfect, but I cling to you because I love you. I love you so much and it hurts. I don’t deserve you.” You sob, dropping your head once again and Soobin caresses your head, holding you against him once again.
“Y/n listen to me. None of my friends or Arin could ever change the way I see you. You deserve me just as much as I deserve you. I’m not perfect but us together? That’s perfect.” He rests his forehead against yours, “I’m always gonna love you, no matter what.” He smiles at your cute pout, tugging at your bottom lip. “No more crying please, I’m here and I’m not leaving.”
You look in his eyes and his flicker to your lips, not letting them avert anywhere else. “Can I kiss you?” He asks sincerely and you nod, letting his lips meet with yours.
He holds you so gently, you can tell he’s a little shaky but he kisses you with so much love. Before you know it, more tears are falling. He pulls away with a smile, continuing to wipe your tears.
"I thought I said no more crying?" He laughs and you pout. "I just missed you." You shove your face in his chest and he pecks your head.
Soobin holds you close to him, no longer feeling empty. For the rest of the day you spend it with each other.
No matter how much of a bad person you claimed to be, Soobin was a constant reminder that in all the bad, there is always good.

i.
When was the last time you felt happy?
You immediately knew the answer to that.
A month ago, your dreams came true. Your world came to life. What started as a small project turned into something much, much larger. And now, your novel is out there for readers to feast their eyes upon.
Seeing this word document become a book, and then holding it in your hands, it was like holding a newborn baby for the first time. Sparks rushed through your body like fireworks, screaming ‘we did it, we made it.’
And then a month passes by, and all the sparks were just… gone.
The rush that coursed through your body from publication and stuff just... it wasn't there anymore.
You spent the month taking a break from writing. After all, Hyuka did recommend you to take things easy. And you did. You didn’t write for a whole month, even when the urge to spam words on google docs came itching inside your brain.
So. Why instead of feeling rested, you were restless? Thumping the heel of your foot over and over again, biting your lip while staring at a random corner in your living room.
Now comes the big question of 'what's next?'
You stared into the distance. It was twelve in the afternoon and you're on your couch doing absolutely nothing.
You shook your thoughts off, forcing yourself to scan the room. This room- this apartment- you've always wanted to own in the future.
The couch that felt more like resting on a giant maltese cat, the shelves of books you've collected over the past decade, the balcony outside where your favorite small coffee table resided. There, you can look down at all the google corporate workers having a miserable day as you write your next best seller.
You love this place so dearly. You knew that well in your head. But you didn't feel it, for some reason. Not now, not anymore. Even if you're forcing yourself to right now.
Rest, Y/n
You repeat Hyuka's words in your head.
Take it easy, okay?
You had emails to reply to today.
You had to keep going. Just because you aren't writing doesn't mean you're jobless.
You exited your living room.
The more cooped up you were there, the more tense you'd feel.
That's when you noticed, at the corner of your eye, a caller by the name of Hyuka was, well, calling you.
You picked up, "Hyukaaa, how've you been?"
Huening Kai is your best friend, the only guy who can make you smile, the only person you share your projects to. The both of you have been at it since high school, and you have always kept in touch since then.
He whined, "Y/n, I've called you so many times. Why didn't you pick up?"
You checked your phone.
11 miss calls from Hyuka
You paused, your shock evident in the short moments of silence. "Did something happen? Were you injured during practice-?"
"Nah, I was just bored."
This guy.
"Oh. Sorry I... slept in." You lied.
And Hyuka knew it. "It's not like you to sleep in. Miss calls? Yes, you don't want distractions when writing. Sleeping in? No. Hot girls don't ‘sleep in’."
"You really had to call me out like that huh? But yeah uh I guess today wasn't so..." You couldn't finish your sentence. You didn't know how to. In all honesty, it wasn't just today you felt this way.
"Y/n?"
"Yeah?"
"Are you okay?"
"...Yeah?"
"No you're not."
You clicked your tongue. "Bruh."
Hyuka wheezed, and you did too.
Then the both of you balled out laughing.
It wasn't even funny, not at all.
Hyuka's laugh was just contagious.
After calming down a little, you proceeded, "Okay, yeah maybe I'm not."
“Hmm. Is it because of debut?”
You thought for a moment.
You can't just not write, even though you know taking a break is what you need before getting into a burnout but you got into a burnout anyway and now your life feels short lived and meaningless and what was this all for again?
You sighed. "I don't know."
Hyuka hummed on the other end of the line.
You could picture him nodding at your profound words. You wish he was actually here. Just calling him makes you happy, but you'd definitely feel a lot better if he was actually next to you talking about... literally anything.
You didn't expect him to say anything.
You didn't want to pressure Hyuka to listen to your venting sessions regardless. He just wanted to hop on in because he was bored, after all, you don't want to put all this sudden weight on him.
What you also didn't expect was for Hyuka to leave the call without a word.
No goodbyes, no nothing.
Just a beep, and then silence encapsulated the whole room.
A grueling three seconds passed by.
You... plopped onto your chair. Your heart nothing but... it's nothing. It's empty. Hollow. Everything's so fuzzy and quiet. Way too quiet.
You got back to work, trying not to make a big deal out of it.
Ten minutes later, a voice sounded from behind y- wait you live alone-
"Y/n! Pst!"
Who the hell says pst when they're yelling from your front door? You got out of your bedroom and made your way to-
"Hyuka? What are you-"
Donut sunglasses rested on Huening Kai's hair like eggs on a nest, a funky piece of accessory for his rather plain white button up and black khaki pants.
All negative thoughts from before evacuated your headspace. You held in your laughter.
Your fashionista blew you a kiss.
You caught it and blew one back. "What's with the… dunkin donuts aesthetic outfit?"
Hyuka didn't answer your question. He's smiling from eye to eye, and you kinda felt grateful to have someone this happy to see you.
He bounced up and down his heels, fiddling with the strap of his backpack. "I know this is all unexpected, so, sorry if I’ve interrupted you by any chance-"
"No. No it's perfectly fine." You reassured him. "It's more than fine actually... its been a while since we've..."
"Met in person?”You raised your brows. “Yeah, it's been a couple months, but we call each other pretty much everyday anyway, right?"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah.” Huening Kai walked closer to you, as if letting you in on a secret. “I thought maybe it would be better if we could hang out together."
You blinked.
He blinked back.
You blinked a couple more times. "Today?"
"Yeah, right now." Then he got on his knees and hugged you, locking your legs together. He's still such a kid, you thought. "Please Y/n, it's been soooo long. I miss you so so much."
"I mean- I miss you too but... right now?"
He looked up at you, arms still latched. "Are you busy today?"
"..."
Anything to escape emails, you thought. Anything. "Not really, no."
He got off of you and front rolled into your apartment, his sunglasses defying the laws of gravity, remaining stuck on his head. "Then let's go!" He jumped up and down, more vibrant than the power of a thousand beams of sunlight.
Perhaps it was the way he held onto you, or the way he smiled, or the way he made a grand entrance by frontrolling into your apartment from the doorway, but something just tickled your gut, and in a good way. All you knew was that your heart melted through your chest the way ice cream drips down the cone on a hot summer day, and you didn’t hate the feeling. It's been a while since you had someone… since you had someone.
You chuckled. "Where to?"
"I don't know!" Hyuka said helpfully. "And that's the fun of it!" He grabbed your wrist and ventured ahead of you further into your writing coven. "I'll help pack your things, just put on some good music and the both of us will be done in no time."
God, this man still really is a kid.
Til this day, you still question why he's still by your side. Even when you don't get to hang out a lot with him these days, somehow, the both of you just make it happen.
Through short texts or hour-long calls, not a day goes by without either of you hyping the other one up.
The moment he left the call earlier, the world pauses and your mind starts making up excuses. Bad wifi? Something came up in the studio? Were you bothering him? Your brain starts clogging up with all these possibilities that may not even be true.
But, now he's here. Maybe this was his master plan after all? "You left me hanging on that call.... because you were secretly planning to do this?"
Hyuka stopped on his tracks. He had a lot going through his mind, even though he didn’t show it. What if you didn’t like this? What if he was bothering you? What if he’s just, simply, annoying?
At the end of the day, voices were just voices. He knew you wouldn’t get annoyed, he knew you never found him a bother.
He looks back at you like you, smiling dearly because you mean so much to him.
And he means so much to you, too. You both knew that.
You smirked, now crawling to his side. "You know just how to make me feel better, huh?"
A low, short chuckle.
He held onto you tighter, and you held back.
ii.
You were a kid once, in highschool, all alone with nobody to talk to. Not a loser, but nowhere to belong. It wasn’t until the ninth grade, you found someone you care about.
While everybody sprinted out the door to go eat at the cafeteria or play outside or harass each other, you could be spotted sitting on your assigned desk, doing your own thing. The classroom seemed more tolerable that way. It didn’t matter if you missed out on drama, scandals, opportunities to develop deep connections with people. That all happens outside the classroom, and you want to keep things that way, even when you start feeling left out, it doesn't matter.
You're better off creating stories in the classroom by yourself rather than talking to anyone in this damned building.
You can feel a keen pair of eyes still looking at you.
You prayed that whatever God up there would make this guy stop looking at you, it ruins your focus-
Oh. It was just Huening Kai, your seatmate.
He was. Okay. He didn't give bad enough vibes to pick on you, at the very least. Or ask for self-inserts in your stories.
"You know, y/n, I am still so very confused why you’re constantly taking notes in class. I've never seen anyone this dedicated to using all their recess periods for studying."
Oh. So that's why his self-insert requests haven't been coming in.
Huening Kai is the type of kid to talk with everyone, and no, not just classmates. Literally everyone. You don't know how he does that without draining his energy.
The both of you don't necessarily talk a lot, however, but considering he's your seatmate and all that, the weight of first impressions kind of just disappears on its own.
"I'm not studying, actually."
He said in a monotonous voice, "Oh. My God."
You hold your laughter at his shock yet deadpanned reaction. "Truth to be told, I am not in fact a hardcore nerd."
"Then what are you doing sitting around with, like, twelve thousand notebooks."
"It's just three extra notebooks."
"Close enough." Something about the way his eyes… sparkle… with intention, like he’s actually looking at you, with interest. It’s kinda like a child begging their dads to play outside and have some fun.
You pressed your lips into a needle-straight line.
You, a reserved writing machine, having fun with ... (you eyed Huening Kai) a corgi.
"... We could chill and talk about my mystery notebooks?" You shrugged your shoulders, suggesting the choice was up to him. He'd probably say no, you thought, I mean, usually people would not be interested in books and ask questions just to look polite and all-
"Okay." He smiled, sliding into his seat. "So, what are they for?"
You tidied your desk a little, making yourself look more 'presentable'. "These are for writing purposes."
"Writing stories?"
"Exactly, I write everything in my notebooks."
He grabbed your notebooks, looking at them in awe as if they were newly refined portraits from the Renaissance era. As long as he doesn’t open them, it’s all good. "Is it like a full length novel or short stories?"
"Both." You grabbed this one notebook in particular that was so thick it looked like a dictionary got a BBL. "This notebook in particular is for the novel."
"Really? This whole thing?"
You nodded.
Huening Kai couldn't stop making goofy gasping faces at your hell of a thick notebook. "What's it about?" He asked.
You take a deep breath, preparing yourself for the inevitable rambling that’s about to occur. "It's this historical piece where this ballerina, our main character, who comes from a low income family, dances to earn money. She catches the eye of the prince. This prince wants to learn to dance with her, to which the king and queen strictly disagree with considering that form of dancing is too 'feminine'." You pause right then and there before you unleash your inner sociology professor and ramble on and on and on and on about your fantasy worlds. "That's it. The plot is pretty simple, I know-"
"Ooooo I love dancing." He said the word ‘love’ with at least thirteen syllables.
You knew that, though. Everyone knows Huening Kai’s quite the dancer.
"Oh yeah? You think you'll really enjoy reading my book then?"
"Yeah, yeah! Ask me for any dancing advice if you need it for your book... wait never mind, I don't know anything about ballet..."
"That's alright-"
He turned a page. "May I read it right now?"
It was then you snatched your book from his hands, clutching it defensively. You wouldn't even let yourself re-read the first draft of your own novel. "What? No, it's not finished yet."
"But you'll take long to write it." He said not unkindly, putting his hands together as if praying to God. "I'll be patient, I promise."
Some part of you thought you'd regret the rest of your life giving anyone else your 'mystery notebooks'.
You took a look at Huening Kai, his puppy dog eyes staring back at you.
Does this man really look like he'll rip your baby into shreds? Or publicly read out your novel word by word to a sea of musically stars and pencil chewers?
His puppy dog eyes blink back at you. It really was like he had sparkles in his eyes, through that way-too-neat bowl cut his irises shone with… something unfamiliar. Something non-existing in your brain textbook.
"Hmm...”you pretended to think, ”you sure you like the premise of the book?"
He nodded furiously.
"You sure you'll be patient enough to see it til the end?"
Another aggressive nod.
"Okay, then it's settled, looks like I'm not-"
"Huening Kaiiii!" Some random guy- Hueing Kai's friend probably- sounded in the distance. A head popped out the door frame, "Huening Kai come here!"
Huening Kai and you exchanged a glance.
"Oh, uh, sorry y/n, I have to go now." He stood from his seat, and never would you've ever thought you'd wish to have someone stay by your side just a little longer.
"I'll talk to you soon, okay?" He stared at you a little while before rejoicing with his pals.
You waved him off, knowing in your head you won't be talking with him, or anyone, for the next couple of days.
And you were right.
You tried to not let this get under your skin.
---
Something about watching the way you shut the world out while writing makes you appear... quite mysterious. That's one way to put it.
But also unique. While everyone goes to make friends, you are ignoring studious lessons to keep up that writer grind. Even during boring classes, instead of sleeping over muffled lectures, you're wide awake writing stories. It's a cool tactic. Whenever Huening Kai looks at your direction, he now knows damn well you aren't jotting down the teacher's explanations, and it's hilarious to him, how slick you are.
It was an ordinary day like any other. The class was writing up biology notes.
Huening Kai was sitting next to you, you were sitting next to him.
He pauses writing notes for a moment, taking glances at the girl next to him.
You're so cool, he thinks.
I want to talk to her some more.
He looks over his shoulder during class again.
Your hair drapes the entirety of your face as you wrote on your 'mystery notebook', pen gliding across the paper like pipe line icing on cupcakes.
This time, he pouts instead of holding back soft chuckles. But she's always writing.
It's so easy to spark up a conversation with other kids.
It's easy to not feel like a bother, to talk to people looking forward to talk to you. But, since you're always on your notebooks, he didn't want to disturb your laser focus, even when he feels like talking to you more than the others.
He sighed.
Huening Kai went back to his notes.
If you aren't willing to talk with anyone, there's no reason for you to be talking to him.
His pen glided across the page with you in sync.
So what?
He wouldn't let your book destroy you and your potential friendship with him.
Recess is your golden hour for writing. So, imagine Huening Kai’s shock when he waltzes into the classroom to find you missing.
It didn’t sit right with him, seeing you not sitting in your usual spot. It’s like a cat hasn’t returned home to their owner late at night. It makes their owner anxious, worry shooting the pit of their gut.
He walked out of the classroom to the schoolyard. He scanned the crowd. The sky was infiltrated by thin clouds, there were girls and boys, but no you.
At least, you weren't a part of the crowd.
You were sitting under a tree, contempt, writing that novel of yours.
The sight of you under that tree at uttermost peace, it made Huening Kai smile.
Hope you didn't mind a little company.
He approached you.
Your pen stops.
You lock eyes with him.
Huening Kai brought a hand out.
"We meet again."
And then you burst out laughing.
He stood there, head empty. Was his shirt back forward? Was his lips still stained from eating chocolate sandwiches? Was his hair a mess?
"We meet again? Usually it's like a hey or hello."
Huening Kai replayed it in his head again.
Oh.
Yeah that was unintentionally funny. A cool wave washed over his chest by then. Relief, sprinkles of pride. Joy. It was nice seeing you laugh, he guessed.
"Next time, I'll cartwheel my way under this tree." He teased, and you can't tell if he was being serious or not. "How about it?"
You looked up at nothing in particular for a moment. "Eh, not like you'll see me here again anyway."
"Why?" Huening Kai stood next to you now, connecting his spine with the tree trunk and then sliding down right by your side in a seating position completely different from you- his thighs on his chest while your legs sprawled out and free.
"I came here to write because of the ambiance," you faced forward to where the rest of the school resided, "but then, turns out, this is the ambiance." you pointed towards the crowd ahead.
You shut your book, a soft thud escaping its pages.
Huening Kai's attention was right back at you, and he knew just the words to motivate you. "Hey, why don't you take the day off writing and talk to me?"
Huening Kai expected a chuckle, a death glare, or reluctance, a bit of something that goes like 'in what world do you think I'll ever let you– or anything else for that matter– put a halt on my creative prowess?'
You shrugged your shoulders and nodded along, "Sure, why not?"
That cool wave washed over his chest again, and it felt better the second time. He wasn't even trying to repress his lips from curling into a smile. You're just so... unbothered.
It's your loneliness that made him a bit more interested in you, how someone could possibly be the way you are. The way you bring yourself with calm confidence, your warm energy that makes him feel cozy and relaxed.
Or your dedication to your books. Your passion, your quietness, your warmth.
Or maybe Huening Kai didn't really need a reason.
Your existence is a good enough reason. He just wanted to talk to you.
He hugged his shins, fiddling with his fingers. "You know, I haven't told you this but I think what you're doing is exceptional."
You rested your head on the tree trunk, looking at him in the corner of your eye.
"You've already said that, actually."
He didn’t. He hadn’t And even if he did, what’s the problem with saying it again? "No, I said your book is great, and it really is, but like. You too, ya know?"
You sat quiet for a moment.
Those words, you received them a lot, from yourself.
Hearing them come from somebody else’s mouth…
Clarity rippled through your head, like those gentle waves that leave white seafoam behind, dissolving into the spaces between the speckles of sand on shore.
You chuckled.
You swung your hair behind your back with the flick of your wrist. "Of course I am."
Huening Kai wheezed, flicking his short hair in the breeze too. "Of course you are."
The both of you did model poses back to back.
You both were idiots. Idiots that go a little too well together, idiots that were meant to cross paths with each other.
"I think you're cool too." You started. "You're... funny. Vibrant. And," a solemn look casts over your face. There were so many good things to say about Huening Kai, and somehow, you were able to condense it into a few words. You blanked out, looking into a void, waiting for the right words to simmer to the surface."... you just might actually care."
If lightning could be struck on someone, and instead of agonizing pain, they felt an immediate consolation course through their body, then Huening Kai has just been abused by a thunderstorm.
The relief in his chest, surging through like hands running down silk gloves.
But also, sadness.
Even though Huening Kai has only actually known you recently, he wants to tell you that so many people care about you. He doesn't know precisely who, but... there has to be someone.
Anyone.
Instead of saying any of that, Huening Kai chuckled. "Of course I do, I expect you to care about me too." His throat was getting tighter, and tighter.
Why hasn't anyone bothered giving you a second chance? Why do they just assume you liked being alone? Why haven’t they reached out to you sooner?
No. Why didn't he reach out to you any sooner?
"Huening Kai?" Your voice was low and soft, nearly a whisper. "Mhm?" Huening Kai put on his best smiles.
"What if I told you I actually wanted to become a ballerina?"
Another bolt of lightning, and this time, it was a little more exuberant than the previous ones. "...Wait, that's just like..."
"The main character?"
"Yeah! Her! I can totally see you doing the curtsy." Was that even a ballet move? Huening Kai didn't know. He just knows you'd be a stunning ballerina. It fits.
He can imagine you twirling your way across the room with elegance, then, performing on stage while the crowd roars, and then he'd... he was getting ahead of himself.
You chuckled, and there was... something off about the way you chuckled.
The way your eyes stuck on the ground. "Yeah, but then I quit."
Just when Huening Kai thought he found someone more like him, you shattered his credence. "Aw, no... why did you quit?"
"It's complicated."
"Tell me everything. I can't fathom how someone as determined as you just..." gave up like that, Huening Kai didn't say.
An indefinite look casted your face, looking into the void of the past. "It wasn't my choice. My parents got broke, like, really really broke when I was in sixth grade. It was to the point they had to put me into the foster care system, and I kinda just moved from house to house from there."
Huening Kai shifted closer to you. You know that feeling when you’re a little kid, you’d never think any of your family members would pass away? That’s the type of disbelief Huening Kai felt towards you, not that he couldn’t believe tragedies like these could happen, he just didn’t think it could happen to someone he loves, to you.
"Were those other families nice to you?"
You chuckled, not unkindly, gaze shifting apart from Huening Kai’s. A reel of memories in a photographic fashion flashed before your eyes.
You remembered the many adults that looked after you, how bitter it slowly grew the more you moved houses.
The expressions on people’s faces when you’d make a family tree of sorts, for a project, and they see the saddest looking tree to ever exist– faces of strangers where mom and dad and daughter all don’t look the same.
You told yourself it wasn’t a big deal. You kept telling yourself just that. "Yeah, but they only last a couple months. All of them do. As soon as I meet some random nice lady I call my 'mother', she's gone and another stranger awaits me at their front porch. It's exhausting, meeting so many new people like that. And it's so ironic, it's just." You looked at the crowd ahead of you for a moment. "If I can't even stick to a proper family, then how am I sure I'll remain friends with anybody?"
Huening Kai can't even imagine what it must be like- to not be able to do the things you love. "I'm so sorry... I mean, I talk with lots of people too but it’s different, that just sounds tiring."
"It's alright, I guess I just... write so that... Like, I believe somewhere out there, my work is a reality, you get me? That, somewhere in this universe, I do exist as a ballerina with a loving family and a friend and... I'm sorry, that sounded so stupid out loud."
"No, it's not stupid." He had a lightbulb moment. He understood now, why you were the way you are. "You know what?"
"Huh?"
"I'm forcing you to join the dance club."
You blinked at the boy sitting next to you, because that's all you knew how to do at that very moment.
"Huening Kai that's very nice of you but-"
"I'll suggest some ballet, to the club, I mean, from time to time," His words were a mess, just like his thoughts, but, point is, Huening Kai will make your dream a reality.
He will take it upon himself to make this the universe where you get to be a ballerina, so you won't have to exclusively exist as words on paper anymore. "I'm not sure how," he admits, "but I'll make it work." He stood now, taking his hand out. "I promise."
You stare up at his tall, determined figure.
For once, you were genuinely speechless. You continue staring at his hand for an uncomfortable amount of time. "Well, that's quite ambitious of you."
"You still love ballet deep in your heart, especially if you're still writing about it. I want to help you, even if it isn't much..." Huening Kai racked his brain for anything that'll possibly convince you to join the dance club, "I mean... it's free...?"
You smirked, "Ahh yes that's the best part." And you shook his hand.
Huening Kai chuckled. Don't worry, if you had forgotten all the moves, we'll learn to dance together, he wants to say.
Don't think about the others, they'll probably watch and stare but their opinions don't matter, he wants to add.
We could dance together, the look on Huening Kai's face was more than enough to portray those words.
An all-too-familiar clanging noise ripped through the air. The school bell went off. Recess was over.
You sighed, getting up from the hard ground with Huening Kai's hand still in yours. "Come on, we gotta head back to class." You grabbed your notebook and let go of his hand, still walking close to him.
"Just tell me if you're interested," Huening Kai hoped you were, "and we'd be happy to have you there."
You gave him a small nod, "I will."
Huening Kai gave a small nod back, "Just call me Kai... or... Hyuka."
"Hyuka? That nickname is so adorable, wait-" You grabbed a notepad and pencil out of your cardigan pocket, "Do I have your consent to use your nickname as a potential character name for my future writing projects?"
So 'Kai' isn't a cute nickname, huh? Huening Kai chuckled. "Ooo, having a clone of myself sounds so chaotic, I love it.” Huening Kai had too many thoughts in his head, but he didn't mind the clutter. He promises that in this lifetime, as selfish as he sounds, you’ll both be dancing partners. In this way, he'll get to revive your love for ballet, and he won't have to dance alone anymore.
Huening Kai plopped down on the floor of the practice room, wiping his sweaty face off with a towel. A few girls gathered around him. They were dancers too.
He didn't really feel like talking to them, or anyone for that matter. He was beyond tired.
"Huening Kai!!" some random girl skipped towards him.
Have we talked before? Have we met before? Wait, who are you? He didn’t really care, he didn’t want to know.
"You looked sooo good dancing just now!!" she screeched.
"Yeah right?!" Another girl butted in. "He's literally so hot."
"I wish I was as good as him." Another stranger sat beside him.
"And just as cute." The first girl added.
They all chuckled amongst themselves while Huening Kai sat right there fighting to breathe. They probably just joined the club to get to talk to him. Probably. Unfortunately.
Another girl walked in.
Blood pulsed in his ears. Huening Kai fought the urge to just walk right out the door-
Until he realized he knew this girl.
"Excuse me?” You looked at the tired boy. ”Uh, Hyuka? Are you okay?"
Huening Kai's face lit up, quite literally like electricity in a theater room just switched on back after a blackout. "Y/n?"
You eyed him, saying not unkindly: "Hot damn bro, look at you-"
"I know right???? Look at him!" One of the dance club girls interrupted.
You looked at that pick me with your typical resting bitch face. "Yeah, he's a sweating mess and you guys aren't helping.." You gave her a full body eye roll, then flapped your hand. "Move."
The girls did as they were told to. They gave you looks, but you didn't care. Huening Kai was the only one giggling.
You squatted in front of him, wiping his face clean like a puppy just hopped out of the bath.
Some girl whispered not too quietly, "I wish I could touch him like that."
You and Huening Kai positively heard her, and that just made the both of you red in the face from trying so hard to hold in your laughter.
"There," You still tried hard not to burst out wheezing, "all clean. Go drink some water."
"I did though."
You grabbed his bottle. "More."
Huening Kai's eyes were somewhere else, but he was definitely still talking to you. "Why are you here anyway?"
You set the bottle down.
"Thought I'd give modern hip hop a shot," You said.
He wanted to hug you right then and there.
He gave you the brightest smile he could muster, and you copied him.
It’s like magic. The moment you entered the room and took care of him, his energy is back to its maximum capacity.
And just like that, he was on his feet again. "Come on, let's dance together."
iii.
The bus ride to the beach was anything but quiet.
The bus was a cute thing. It was petite, teal, not so crowded. And the windows were wide open, allowing you to view the wonderful rows of shops outside. There were florists, fruit stations, kitten shelters, aligned shoulder to shoulder with each other, settling down for off-hours. The 4 pm Sun dipping down the skyline, blasting subtle hints of yellows in the sky.
The bus came to a halt.
But… (you looked up) this isn’t the beach…
Huening Kai got off the bus before you. “Thought we’d stop by here first before going to the beach.”
You nodded along, your focus however was entirely on the bookstore, looking at it like a painting in an art museum. But the words that left your lips didn't portray your enchantment of this building bestowed upon you. "Hyuka, are we really gonna go here..."
If anything, you sounded bored.
Hyuka faced you, not disappointed, not surprised. "Don't you love bookstores?" He knew you love bookstores, how wouldn't he know that?
"You said we're heading to the beach."
"Oh- yeah that can wait." He grabbed your hand. "Come on, have you been here before?"
You followed along. "Not here, no."
"Me neither." He smiled his cute smile. "Explore we shall!"
We shall indeed, was what Hyuka expected you to say. You shook your head instead, stopping at the entrance. "Hyuka, no, I won't go in there."
Huening Kai eyed you suspiciously again. "Ouch. Okay. But like. Why?"
You took a step back. "We should just head to the beach, somewhere both of us could have fun."
It finally clicked in his head, why you don't want to enter such a place. "Hey, you think just because we're in a bookstore I won't have any fun?"
He was right. "Well... yeah, I guess."
Huening Kai walked up to you at his own pace. There's something about the way he's looking at you that's just... it was off. But a good kind of 'off'. Like it was a hidden intention to it.
He says, "Artists support artists, remember?"
Your breath hitched.
A long lost memory resurfaced in your head.
---
At the end of every school day, you’d walk out the class putting on a tune on your phone. The bus ride home was noisy as is, you got to block those around you out.
You’d put on any song. Hip-hop, indie, vapor trap, anything you felt like listening to at the moment. Any tune that would spark creativity for a new writing piece, something to distract you for the time being.
Today, however, as you stood under the bus stop, you turned the volume down.
It was raining, a light drizzle. It was the softest of pitter-patters, a delicate thing. Like each drop was a unique tune of its own, and you were enchanted by its melody.
Sometimes, perhaps the life around you is more beautiful than you make it up to be.
Something bothered the harmony, splashes that seemingly grew louder...
You took your headphones off, looking to the side.
Huening Kai’s head down, sluggishly making his way through the empty street drenched in rain..
He didn't even bring an umbrella! You clicked your tongue, not necessarily disappointed, but very much concerned. "Hyuka, come here. It's me. And only me."
Huening Kai looked up. The moment he recognized you, he walked just a teensy bit faster. You chuckle at him. He looks just like a corgi walking his way to you.
"Huening Kai, you're a wet mess. Do you have a towel on you?"
Huening Kai didn't respond, not a single word.
He just sniffled.
"Hey... Hyuka?"
The sight of Huening Kai in front of you, puffy eyed and hiding, trembling in fear.
Your gut twisted. "Who is it? Did one of those girls bother you? Which bitch do I need to come after tonight?"
Huening Kai shot up a glance at you so violent he almost toppled over. "WHAT?!- No-" and then in a much softer voice, "No, it's... not about them."
"Just because it isn't specifically them doesn't mean I'll leave my kill list empty." Behind all this determination, your heart stung so bitterly, so dense, all because of the sight right in front of you: The happiest boy you know pouting in front of you, shoulders sagged, a sobbing mess. Eyes red and puffed in horror because of something vile he must've experienced.
And you weren't there to protect him.
You felt so bad, so guilty that you weren’t there for him.
But you’re here now. And you’ll hear him out til the end.
"It's the boys. My friends." He continued, voice so low as if those same 'friends' of his were right there next to him.
Your one and only Hyuka, you failed to protect him.
What were you doing instead? Listening to your spotify playlist on loop?
You cursed at yourself. "What did those guys do to you?"
"Made fun of me." Hyuka laughed. He laughed and it hurts so so much to see him laugh right now because you know damn well he's only doing that because he's hiding his pain thinking it’ll bother you. As if he is bothering you. "I tried to push it off but..." Another chuckle, only this time his voice croaked and more tears spill out.
You held his hands, so he won't have to fiddle and pick on his fingers anymore. So they would feel even just a little bit more at ease in yours. "Aw Hyuka- it's okay. I mean this is not okay but..." You too were a mess, looking for the right words.
Y/n! You're a writer, think! You paused for a moment.
Speak from your heart.
"Hey, Hyuka? Look at me."
He looked at you, and the sight of his face bore into your head, and not at all in a good way.
"Let's sit down, yeah?"
Huening Kai sniffled some more. "But I'll get the seat all wet."
"That's fine, that’s not a problem at all, I'll cross my fingers and hope the seat won't get cleaned, so the next person to sit on it are those same boys who made fun of you."
Huening Kai sat down, but he wasn't laughing.
The pain he felt, the guilt you felt, it's all completely unimaginable. And it's not like you even know the whole story yet.
It's so easy to let the words out on paper, but in real life? Your body kinda acted on its own, you don’t know what you’re doing, what you want to say. The words just came out, and, you just, did it.  "Here... come on-"
Huening Kai flinched, eyes wide and pure.
He’s scared, and you didn’t expect that to hurt you so much. "No, I don't want to hug you, you'll get wet and sick, too."
You scoffed. "So?"
He blinked, and for a couple seconds he didn't know what to do, whether to keep pressing on the fact he's fully soaked or take a step back.
It was then he chose not to go with either of those options.
He squeezed you to death.
The rainwater seeped into the fabric of your uniform, you couldn’t care less. You clutched onto Hyuka tight, worried that the slightest breeze will push him away and you'll never get to see him again. He continued sobbing into your shoulder.
"Okay." You patted his back. "Okay, tell me everything."
"The boys- I was- We were just talking and then I brought up that I'm taking dancing seriously and want to be an idol when I grow up and... they made fun of me for it. Maybe they were just joking around but... I didn't think of it that way. I feel stupid for-"
"No, this isn't stupid, they are. They have no right to make fun of you." The irony of it all.
Huening Kai, known for his smashingly good looks and cute demeanor, known for being a bubbly ray of sunshine, praised for his talents and social skills and dancing- oh especially dancing- was being made fun of because he wants to become an idol? "I think there's nothing wrong with you for wanting to be an idol." You let go of the hug, but still sat close to him. "Nothing at all."
Huening Kai looked around. He looked anywhere else but you. He just couldn’t, he just couldn’t. "It feels... I don't know. I just... sometimes I don't believe I could make it, too. Regardless of my friends making fun of me."
You took a deep breath, slinging an arm over his shoulders. "I know." You chuckled, the look in your eyes now reminiscing the distant past, that is, your middle school years.
Only this time, Huening Kai turned his head. "Hm?" Even while crying, he’s still an angel.
"I know what that's like." You rephrased. "People also don't believe I'd make it as a writer, but it's people like that who probably only have money-related goals anyway, right?"
He nodded, letting your words sink in.
"At the end, we all die in the same coffin, and, I believe when that time comes, money doesn't measure someone's life well lived, but instead, their happiness. If being an Idol makes you happy, please, by all means go for it. And then, the good people in your life will stick around and be there for you." You stuck your thumb out, pointing it in your direction. “Like me. Let me be your biggest fan, other than yourself.” There was no lie in your words, only compassion.
For a while, nothing happened.
The raindrops continued drumming the street, the salty taste still looms close.
Your arm is still rooted along Hyuka’s soggy shoulders. You can hear him breathing deep breaths, long and draggy, very much needed breaths.
He brought his head up, looking at you. Still trembling whether it's from the boys, the rain, hell, maybe even you but he’s trying.
Once your gazes meet, something far deeper than words can portray settled in hos eyes– admiration."You're very smart."
You smiled all smug. "Of course I am, a genius like me only shares their knowledge to those I find worthy of trust." You leaned closer to him by then, digging a finger into his chest.
"You're also a bit over dramatic sometimes."
You clicked your tongue.
This dude.
"Hey-"
"I'm kidding!" Huening Kai wiped his tears away. "But it's true though."
The two of you chuckled, and for a moment, you both were just two goofs again, just tiny little specks of dust pre-existing in this vast universe.
That.
That feeling right there was, somehow, comforting.
Huening Kai's hand flipped over, reaching for something- your hand. "Okay," he grasped it firmly, "I'll go for it. I won't let my friends tell me what to do with my life."
It didn't matter if anyone was watching you guys. They, too, are also just little specks of dust in this big, big world. "Hell yeah, that's great. That's fantastic, actually." You gaze at Hyuka, making sure he knows that if no one's proud of him, not even himself, you got his back. "I will cheer you on until the end, I promise."
"Good to know." Hyuka couldn't thank you enough. There's just too many words to say.
Huenin Kai wonders why you haven't laughed at him yet, or degrade him or something. Anything. And looking at you now, he knows the answer as to why.
You truly, truly believe in him.
Huening Kai never knew a person like that could exist, someone who is completely different from you, yet, they get you all the same.
"I'll cheer you on for sure." He meant those words the most, more than any 'thank you' ever could.
It was then you brought out your fist. "Artists support artists."
Huening Kai fist bumped you, thinking to himself that sad, rainy day,
She's so cool, I’ll love her to death.
---
Huening Kai brought up his fist.
You smirked at him. "Artists support artists." Your fist clashed into his.
You thought, I'll definitely add this to one of my books.
The bookstore was entirely made of wood: The shelves, the floor, the staircase. It even left this woody scent while also maintaining this fresh, indie vibe.
"What book did you get y/n?" Hyuka strolled next to you, side by side walking in between random isles with no sense of direction, kinda like a prince and princess strolling down a courtyard.
You shrugged your shoulders. "I don't know, I think I might want to try out some romance though."
You had peculiar taste. Everything about the novel you bought didn't have to be perfect, no, however, if it didn't speak out to you, if it didn't remind you of you, there's a high chance you'll not buy it.
So imagine your surprise when Hyuka pulled out a random book from a random shelf at a random aisle suggesting you should give it a read. "What about this one?" He scanned the summary, "Err, some high school girl and high school guy fall in love."
You snatched the book from him, the cover so glorious and extra and fancy, it was so made for you. "Hyuka, I love you so much." It had to be on your bookshelf, right now.
"Hehe, I know.” He flipped his hair like the genius he is. “What should I get?"
You look at him with that look. That look that says ‘but I thought you don’t like reading?’ "You're also getting something?"
Huening Kai nodded. "I want to get into reading too, a little, just for you."
You eyed him, and you can tell, he knows just what you're gonna say.
"Read my book then."
"But, y/n." He whined, to which you gave him your evil writer smirk. You know, the face you make after writing an unexpected character death scene which leads to your readers coping by posting to their shattered-hearts desire on multiple social media platforms, bonus points if it's the love interest you're killing off!! "I don't need to read it,” He complained,”I know everything already!"
He isn't wrong.
You didn't write your novel all on your own.
You contacted Hyuka all the time for a reason. When brilliant ideas shoot you like an RK62 rifle, Hyuka is the first person you ramble about it to, and poor poor boy has to sit there listening to all your rambling.
Or on the flip side, when you're having those slower writing days, you hit him up too, and he comforts you through those uninspired time periods.
So it doesn't necessarily surprise you when Hyuka told you he hadn't bought your book. He did know everything about it, things that didn't make it to the final cut, the things that did, the ugly first couple of drafts.
There was no point in reading it, you thought. "You're not wrong."
Hyuka looked elsewhere, head in the clouds. "Hm. I'll read it anyway."
"Seriously? I was just joking, you know." No, you weren't. "You could read literally anything else. What about some romance? Or high fantasy?"
"Nope, I'm sure now, I'll read your book." Hyuka pressed on. "It's yours after all, you wrote it, and if I liked listening to you talk about it, then I think I'll enjoy reading it, too. Now..." He clutched your hand, jogging down the aisle without warning. "Let's go find that book."
iv.
At the beach, you thought you'd read your books together while the waves crash and the sun sets and the sky is a gorgeous shade of pink and the salty air wafts in your nose as you take deep, meditative breaths.
But no.
On this empty beach, Hyuka whipped out a cylindrical block from his backpack- a speaker.
If this were a scene in a movie, this would be the part where the happy music stops and the characters are wide eyed and crickets sound effects commence. "What are you doing?"
Hyuka smiled at you the way a seven year old child would at their father after scribbling his monster truck with crayola markers, cuteness overpowering guilt.
"Y/n," Hyuka says slowly, in that adorable voice he knows you can't resist. "since I made a promise to read your book, promise me you'll dance with me-!"
Bile shot up your throat. "No. Not here."
"Huh? Why?"
"I'm not dancing in public."
Hyuka looked around. "But the beach is empty, I'm the only one watching. Come on y/n, it'll be fun!"
Hyuka's cute demanding voice was working on you. No it wasn’t… Okay maybe it was.
Your toes curled, further planting yourself in the ground.
God you don't wanna do this. "But- Hyuka, I know you have good intentions but it's so. It's been so long, I don't know if I still got the hang of things-"
"Sure you do. Hang on, I know the perfect song for this." He plays your favorite song (or at least your favorite song of his) on the speaker- Our Summer.
The familiar tune runs laps in your mind, goosebumps blooming across the valleys of your arms. Music does sound prettier aloud than plugged in with headphones on. It does make you… less stiff.
"I don't know how to dance to this-"
"Me neither?" Hyuka proceeded to fix the speaker, placing it upright on a blanket over the sand. "We never had an official choreography for this song, so I thought the both of us can just make it up as we go?” He drags you by the hand, causing you to lose grip of the sand and stumble as you walked. “It doesn't have to be serious or anything. It's for fun, is all that matters."
Fun.
Yeah, that’s right.
"Y/n?"
It hit you like a plane hit a bus hit a car hit a person. "Fun..." That's what mattered at the end of the day.
We all die in the same coffin, and by that point, only one's happiness is the proper measurement for a life worth living.
"Okay.” You spoke to no one in particular. “No one else is watching..." and even if they were, does it matter?
Hyuka looked at you, like, really looked at you.
Did he feel concerned? Confused? Scared this is a bad idea and he shouldn't have bothered you in the first place?
"Y/n." He called your name once more, extending his arm. "Join my dance club?" He smiled his perfect smile. "Please?"
You stood frozen, unsure why your throat started closing up.
Hyuka continued, "I'll suggest some ballet." A giggle. "I'm not sure how, but I'll make it work."
Memories bubbled to the surface. You were sitting under a tree, this damningly uncomfortable tree, thinking today will be peaceful, today will be different and it really was so peaceful and different because this boy– this young boy beaming with curiosity and innocence– comes up to you and changes the world around you.
You held Hyuka's hand tighter. "I still love ballet deep in my heart." Your feet did its thing, they stepped this way, they skipped that way.
You spun Hyuka around, laughing along with him, sand flitting around, your hair in your face but it didn’t matter that neither of you were completely off-beat because you were having fun.
The variations of ballet and hip-hop dancing are so unfittingly perfect, so freeing, so you.
Memories rush back to you like wildfire.
The classroom, the mystery notebooks, the noisy corridor, the tree, the rainy day at the bus stop, Huening Kai.
Huening Kai, who was a small corgi with a dream to be a star, turned into a golden retriever idol with the same heart of gold. The same boy who you parted ways with after graduating high school but never parting ways with you.
Everything was a massive blur. One moment, you're under that tree talking with your best friend Hyuka, the next moment you're alive and free and so happy in this empty sunset beach. One moment you are comforting this poor soaked boy at the bus stop, the next moment he's a full grown man holding your arms swaying to the rhythm.
The song closes, and you're standing right as the waves hit your shins in sync.
Your heart is pounding, it's pounding so loud but it feels so good to be young and free again. You walk further away from the shore, not looking or going anywhere in particular. You pant, not able to take a breath.
Just then, your feet left the ground.
"Hyuka- HYUKA PUT ME DOWN!"
Hyuka lifted you up bridal style, with such ease as if you were nothing but a hydrogen atom, running back to the waves.
You want to punch him. He was running at Godspeed, and. You didn't want to get your outfit wet.
But he's too pure to be punched.
BUT YOU WANT TO PUNCH HIM SO BADLY. "WAS THIS YOUR MASTER PLAN ALL ALONG???"
Hyuka wheezed hard, not having heard you scream this loudly up until this point.
"YOU'LL NEVER KNOW-!" Just as he screamed, he slipped and fell frontwards into the waves, him too getting all soaked in sea water. Now both of you looked like something out of the Titanic.
"DUMBASS!" You shrieked, but Hyuka couldn't hear you... because he was in the water... and couldn't get out for some apparent reason. "Oh." You got your hands around his waist and pulled him out, "Hyuka, you okay?"
Hyuka held onto your arms, cheeks red, cackling like a maniac. "I wasn't supposed to fall. I swear I did that accidentally on purpose."
You knew he did that on purpose. As you dragged your bedraggled corgi out of harm's way, where the knee-deep waves can't drown him, you... you wanted to say something.
You had to say something. The words 'I love you' didn't feel right. You had to say something else, something more.
The sun dipped halfway into the horizon, the sky frosted in thin clouds. It was just you and Hyuka, Hyuka and you. You never felt more at peace... with someone.
You squeezed his waist tightly, not too tight so he won’t choke, just enough to get him to notice, which he did.
"Never leave me, Hyuka."
Hyuka fell silent for a moment, letting those words melt into his head.
Because he understood just how important those words mean to you and him. "I love you too."
Epilogue
A couple months go by.
Huening Kai walked down the pavement, heart pounding in anticipation.
It wasn't hard to find the signing for your second published book, not when the entire bookstore was plastered in eye-catching posters and, moreover, crowds of fans lined up for an autograph, to be able to see you.
Huening Kai didn't have to wait, though. As per your request, he could skip the line and get a pre-signed copy... for free.
He bragged about this to the other members, to which they said things such as 'aww she's so sweet' (everyone) or 'why can't I get my own copy?' (Beomgyu) or 'dumbass, we could just share.' (Yeonjun to Beomgyu).
Huening Kai waddled into the bookstore, ignoring the quizzical stares he got from people. The line wasn't any shorter inside.
Huening Kai's jaw dropped. If it detached from his skull, it would be rolling off the floor like unraveling the red carpet. The line was so huge your signing podium was on the second floor. That's right, the line continued as he crab-walked up the stairs.
And there you were: In a suit, taking pictures with fans, piles of books resting on both your sides.
Huening Kai never saw you in a suit, but he must admit, you rock a suit better than he ever could.
He shifted towards you.
You look up, pleased.
"It is I."
You stared at him with an expectant gleam in your eyes. "Hello, my little corgi." Then you passed him what seemed like... a violet parcel tied with twine? "A special copy for a special person." You winked so very discreetly.
He nodded, bowing down before you. Like. Full on kneeling, hands together, forehead kissing the ground type of bowing. "I am honored."
As he was still on his knees, you whispered, "Meet me at the cafe."
He nodded once more. "Good luck with your signing."
He walked away, vanishing into the crowd, leaving you just as you saw him. But that’s okay. You’ll see each other… in a while...
An hour or so had passed. Or maybe two. Perhaps three.
Huening Kai stayed put in the cafe, the ice cubes that once piled in your matcha latte he bought for you now melting away. He read three chapters of your newly published book, which, wasn't a world record for speed reading or anything, but he enjoyed his 'mysterious cafe booktok girl' moment while it lasted. Because of you, he got motivated to indulge into this new cozy hobby.
Huening Kai yawned, not because the story was particularly boring, he just needed a break. He stared at the violet parchment paper and unraveled twine, sitting on the edge of the table.
A special copy for a special person.
He folded the paper neatly, spun the twine over his fingers, then snuck it in his pocket for safe keeping. He couldn’t just throw it away, he thought.
Finishing the remnants of his grape smoothie, having nothing better to do, he scrolled through the book, flipping pages mindlessly, checking each and every minor detail: The title of each page, a font change, an image, a picture of him and you on the beach he never forgot taking-
Wait-
He flipped the pages back, nose butting in the spine of the book. His eyes locked on that one page.
That one,single page.
'Dedicated to Hyuka'
He closed the book.
Opened it.
Closed it again.
A minute passes by. Maybe two. Perhaps three.
He opened the book.
He got to that page.
And once he got there, he couldn't rip his eyes off the picture. Its printing quality is spot on and the both of you look so so pretty and he couldn't be any happier.
Back when he had black hair, back when your hair too was long as a ghost's in need of a fresh chop.
Back when you were in an author slump and he was in need of- he choked, and not in a bad way- you.
Curious (and also not ready to read the hell of a paragraph underneath the picture), he turned to the acknowledgements section to see if you spared any comments for him.
You did.
To Hyuka, the boy who taught me how to dance, I thank you for bringing this book (and its author) to life.
His heart thawed when reading that.
So he read the sentence.
Over and over.
And over again.
How were you able to make him feel this way?
How could he be this lucky?
He forced himself not to curl the pages, a bad habit of his, because. This book was just too precious. If he left even one page damaged, wrinkled, unstraight, he'd sob knowing the fact he practically ruined the most precious gift you could offer.
He flipped to the next page.
That page.
The page.
Years ago, this boy came to me. He was the only person who ever cared for my writing back then, the only person who believed in me. He helped bring this book to life, and the book before that, and older works I haven't gotten to publishing yet. He encouraged me to partake in my other hobbies too, to give them more attention. Because of him, he ignited my love for writing and ballet. He's quite literally my will to live. I appreciate him more than words can say for simply existing as the same timeline as me. Hyuka, you helped me so, so much. Even if you think you're doing the bare minimum, just know, bare minimum isn't really common these days, as well as endless gratitude. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
His fingers stayed clamped to the page. Why were you such a good writer? How did you know the exact words to not only translate the fictional world from your mind to paper but also the exact words to make your best friend cry?
"Hyuka! Hey, sorry to keep you waiting. The fame is really getting to me." You fanned your hand. "My hands hurt from all that signing."
Huening Kai almost fell off his chair.
He sucked back his tears. Act normal. "Y/ndon'tscaremelikethateveragainplease."
Somehow, you were able to make up most of what he was saying. "I texted you that I'll be here soon though, didn't you see?"
He did not. "Sorry. I was reading your, uh, masterpiece hehe."
"Oooo d'you like it so far?" And then you kicked it off from there, rambling about your book, the signing, and random topics here and there.
Huening Kai forgot he was crying for a second, but his heart still remained sore, his body still tender from reading that paragraph. No birthday wish or late night appreciation text on WhatsApp could top that off. He wants to hug you so bad right now.
"Hey, Hyuka?"
"Hm?" He still has that angelic smile, even when he's in pain (the good type of pain) on the inside.
"Wanna go to the beach again?"
He choked. "Of course. Uh, when though?"
"Right now."
He blinked. "... Right now?"
"It'll make my book signing day even better." A pause. "I mean- this is very short notice and maybe bad timing if you think about it actually but-"
"Yes," He spoke quietly at first, "please, let's go."
You blinked at him. "Wait really?" With how busy the both of your schedules were, what are the chances the two of you would-
"Yes really! I want to dance with you. Be it ballet, or hip hop. In another universe maybe we could be dancing together all the time." His voice cracked. "Do you know how much I..." It's been so long since Huening Kai has ever felt this small, since Huening Kai felt so... appreciated. The type of appreciation that isn't related to his work or his face but him. He sunk back into his seat, eyes distancing off of you. "Is this what you felt when I asked you on that beach escape?"
You stared at him, wondering if he'll ever look back up. It, too, has been a long time since you've seen Huening Kai like this. "Hyuka, I'm sorry I don't-"
Hyuka waved his hands around, "No. Don't be sorry I- I was sputtering nonsense I-"
"No, no, you weren't saying nonsense Hyuka." You started. "I felt really happy when you asked me on that beach escape. It's like... The feeling transcends words, the burst of energy I felt, the rush of old memories with you, the way I can feel my heart pound loudly in my chest again." You smiled, and it meant the world to Hyuka.
Huening Kai couldn't wait any longer, he knew just what he had to do.
Huening Kai grabbed his drink. He didn't have a speaker, so he settled with his phone. He reached his hand out. "What are we waiting for?"
You stared back at the boy, now a man, in front of you. "Let's go."
When was the last time you felt happy?
The ground shifts from soil to sand, the sunset is more orange than pink at this hour.
You look at Huening Kai.
The image of a fifteen year old boy smiled back at you.

a/n: I spent about a month and a half writing and perfecting this piece to the best of my capabilities, but even then, I wasn't so strict with myself on this piece, because, that's quite literally my point of writing this: To have fun. to let loose, to enjoy writing again. I do genuinely hope this fic makes all the tired, underappreciated artists out there feel more loved and respected; I genuinely hope this work has touched the hearts of those lonely souls in need of a friend, seriously, you guys are so independent and such awesome people, it baffles me how you haven't found your special someones yet; and to all the ningdungies who came here for Huening Kai, thanks for stopping by, I hope this fic fed your hyuka-content-deprived souls *brings forth spoon and bowl*nomnomnomnom* Thank you for reading up until this point, I greatly appreciate you and hope you stay tuned for more!!

Question. D you think Yeonjun snowboards? He gives off that vibe yk?
snowboarder bf!yeonjun
a/n. he absolutely does but personally as a person who doesn’t do sports (especially winter ones w/o occasional ice skating)….. bare with me. as in i don’t know shit about it.
Tumblr media
my dear anon, i could give you a short answer and it would be simple yes
but where’s fun in that?
so for starters i think he’d love to go on a winter holiday or maybe before/after christmas in the mountains just with you
occasionally the boys but after soobin tripped and almost caused beomgyu to break all of his bones off….. yeah
no matter if you’re a professional skateboarding/skiing lover or a total amateur or even a person who never stepped on it (like me🙋‍♀️) you bet his ass will do anything so you will enjoy this trip too
and if you decide to give it a try despite not having experience OR if you are experienced… matching outfits
yeonjun will buy you two matching boards, costumes (?), gloves, boots etc etc all the equipment
and it’s not boomery-neon-flashy-each piece in diff color but sporty. no.
it’s top quality and fashionable.
yes, this man will turn the slope into a runway.
but above all, he wants you to be safe
and have fun!!!
so it’s never boring!!
if you need, he’ll reach and guide you, squeezing your hand occasionally when you do good
if you know how to skateboard, you will be racing with him (safely‼️)
and definitely at one point you end up both in the snow, laughing your ass off because he tripped and took you down with him
he’ll always help you stand up (because one time when you stood up first and gave him a helping hand, he pulled you back into the snow)
idk what else to say on the skating part
but remember how i said that you go to the mountains blah blah blah
he thinks it’s romantic..
so either he’ll rent out a cabin or book a luxurious hotel with a spa and everything
so after a long day after having fun and goofing around at the slope, you’ll go back and first thing first: a warm bath
sometimes he’ll join you but it’s nothing sexual, you two will just sit in the bath with your head resting on his chest while he rubs your arms :(((
and obviously helping each other dry out after you’re done, giggling at each other red cheeks and any wrinkles that the googles left on your face
or! sometimes you’d go into a sauna or to the spa, doing all that lovey-doves couple stuff
massages especially if you’re sore ^_^
more often than not you’ll end your day wrapped in warm clothes and a blanket (and sometimes his arms) while sitting on the balcony, watching the stars blink above the mountain peak with a glass of wine
and yeonjun staring at you lovingly :”)

hii ! i absolutely adore your svt as your boyfriends series and i was wondering if you could do chan's version? tysm, hope you're having a good day 🫧🤎
so happy you enjoy the series love! here is your Chan request <3
DINO AS YOUR BOYFRIEND
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𓆩♡𓆪 he is so so cuddly, i’m going to cry
𓆩♡𓆪 always had his hand on you when you’re in big crowds
𓆩♡𓆪 because he doesn’t want to lose you :(((
𓆩♡𓆪 and is afraid that something might happen to you :(((
𓆩♡𓆪 he loves having you wrapped up in his arms, with your head resting on his shoulder
𓆩♡𓆪 not only does he gets to hug you, but also place gentle kisses on your forehead and cheeks
𓆩♡𓆪 definitely cuddles with you before sleep and while watching movies
𓆩♡𓆪 gets so happy (and shy) whenever you praise him
𓆩♡𓆪 because usually he thinks that he can do an even better job at certain dance steps or vocal parts
𓆩♡𓆪 but you are there right by his side, to cheer on him and tell him what an amazing job he does
𓆩♡𓆪 he loves spending late nights at the dance studio
𓆩♡𓆪 when you two are left alone for yourselves and can finally get a bit of freedom from other people
𓆩♡𓆪 he thrives off of your compliments about his dancing, but also loves to drag you to the middle of the dance floor to teach you some moves (even if you can’t dance, he looks at you like you’re his entire world)
𓆩♡𓆪 because you are
𓆩♡𓆪 he just looks so stupidly in love with you, with a huge grin on his face and constant giggles leaving his mouth
𓆩♡𓆪 but he wouldn’t have it any other way
𓆩♡𓆪 Chan gets jealous quite easily
𓆩♡𓆪 not because he is possessive or toxic in any way
𓆩♡𓆪 but he is afraid that someone might steal you from him
𓆩♡𓆪 no matter how confident and cocky he is on stage (especially when dancing), he is rather insecure about himself
𓆩♡𓆪 it doesn't surprise him when people flirt with you, well, because look at you, IT'S YOU
𓆩♡𓆪 he just kinds of sulks, but doesn’t approach you, not wanting to come off as clingy or overbearing
𓆩♡𓆪 but you are quick to comfort him and tell him that no other person in this world can take you away from him
𓆩♡𓆪 because you are just as in love with him as he is with you
𓆩♡𓆪 he ADORES taking care of you, in any shape or form
𓆩♡𓆪 even though he usually gets treated as the youngest, he has an urge to take care of people around him
𓆩♡𓆪 and as you are one of the most important people in his life, he makes it his life goal and mission to take a great care of you
𓆩♡𓆪 he helps you, even if you didn't ask him
𓆩♡𓆪 if you’re sick, there is no way you’re getting out of your bed
𓆩♡𓆪 when you’re on your period, he is already on his way to the nearest convenience store to buy you pads and your favourite chocolate
𓆩♡𓆪 will never let you go home alone at night, he will always pick you up (except for when he’s away of course)
𓆩♡𓆪 and if you don’t call him to pick you up, he’s either having an heart attack, because he’s scared that something might happen to you or is sulking
𓆩♡𓆪 but at the same time, no matter how much he enjoys looking out for you
𓆩♡𓆪 he is so grateful that you take care of him as well
𓆩♡𓆪 because he has a habit of overworking himself and before you, he had no one there for him (except for the boys, of course)
𓆩♡𓆪 but you are literally everything he could have ever asked for, and more
𓆩♡𓆪 loves taking candid photos of you and using them as his wallpaper
𓆩♡𓆪 especially when he’s on tour, because he misses you so much
𓆩♡𓆪 you definitely have at least one small matching item
𓆩♡𓆪 because it reminds you of each other when you’re apart
𓆩♡𓆪 loves when you share your interests and hobbies with you
𓆩♡𓆪 whenever he has free time, he likes to incorporate both his and your’s passions into date nights
𓆩♡𓆪 you’re each other's safe places

workaholic - kang taehyun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: doing soobin a favor leads to a night alone with your boss... who you just so happen to be crushing on
pairing: gn reader x kang taehyun
genre: fluff; 1.6k words
a/n: maybe in a dream world a boss would let you take all the hours you wanted LOL but let’s just pretend~
some would call you a workaholic, but you simply called it living. there was no such thing as “working too hard”. you liked having money, and you didn’t dislike your job. especially as long as you got to see a certain someone. a certain someone who may also play a teensy tiny part in the reason why you enjoy working so much.
maybe that certain someone was your boss.
who you definitely did not have a crush on.
nope…
the door to ‘kang cafe’ chimes as your coworker soobin walks in, halfway through the process of putting his apron on. “y/n! you’re here already?” he asks while opening a drawer that held all of the staff name tags and important keys.
“yup,” you nod, “i’m working day shifts this week since i’m a little ahead on schoolwork.” you had been working your ass off teaching yourself the material since your professors proved themselves to be absolutely useless. going to class in the mornings only wasted your time and frustrated you further, so you decided to switch up your schedule a little.
there’s a hint of disappointment and guilt in soobin’s eyes, his fingers still fumbling his name tag around, desperately trying to attach it to his apron. “I was gonna ask if you could cover my night shift tomorrow…” he whines slightly. “I can’t ask you to work a full day…”
“huh? you won’t be here?” you ask. soobin shakes his head before a shy, proud smile covers his face. “nope, I happen to have a very special date,” he responds before loudly groaning, “ah, this stupid thing!” you laugh at the sight of him still struggling to get his name tag on.
“here let me..” you reach over to help the clumsy boy while giving him a reassuring smile, “and don’t worry about coming in tomorrow, I was gonna take some extra hours anywa–”
your words are interrupted by the sound of the back room closing and footsteps approaching. you both look over to see your boss, taehyun, looking at the two of you with a startled face. the sight of you and soobin, close proximity, your hands laying on soobin’s chest. he quickly clears his throat before returning to his usual chill persona.
“okay one, sorry for interrupting whatever this is,”
“um, they were just fixing my na–”
“and two, y/n, what are you talking about?” he looks at you, a glint of confusion in his eyes as he completely ignores the boy next to you.
your hands finally release from soobin’s nametag as you turn to fully face your boss, trying your absolute hardest not to scan his entire body. what was someone so attractive and close to your age even doing owning a coffee shop like this? I mean, you know he’s slightly older. graduated too. but shouldn’t he be the manager at a best buy or something? better yet, working a modeling job?
stupid kang taehyun.
stupid kang taehyun and his stupid black tee that just so happens to be tightly clinging onto his–
“y/n?” taehyun snaps you out of your trance while soobin snickers to himself behind you, pretending to make himself busy with a random cup.
“huh?” you ask, completely dumbfounded and a little embarrassed.
“why do you need more hours? you’re already scheduled every day this week.”
oh right. “oh, um, well you guys know me…” you start, “always working...” the chime of the door sounds again as a trio of customers walk in. taehyun gives soobin a look, signaling him to handle the small crowd as he grabs your hand to take you to the backroom. you don’t even have time to digest what’s happening or the dizziness that’s suddenly consuming you because taehyun immediately continues his light scolding.
“y/n, I know i’m your boss but i’m not a shitty one,” he says with a sad look, “I know you still have classes, so you don’t have to worry too hard about the cafe, okay?”
“no, I promise it’s okay! I don’t mind helping you, really.” you explain, quickly shaking your head, “it could be busy too and I know the feeling of having to handle it alone…” taehyun sighs at you, his eyes filled with an emotion you can’t really point out. at least not until his next words:
“ah, you’re too sweet to me, what am I gonna do with you?”
your eyes widen, blinking quickly as you mentally remind yourself to scream into your pillow about this later. how do you even respond? why was he looking at you like that? maybe you’re overthinking. does he talk to soobin this way?!
“um… g-give me a promotion?” you joke, trying to distract yourself from whatever just happened.
“alright, get back to work.”
Tumblr media
“are you absolutely positively sure you’re okay with taking my shift?” soobin asks for the hundredth time over the phone.
“yes, soobin, now please go get ready before I punch you for making your date wait.” after a few more minutes of bickering (and lots of complaining from soobin’s end), you end the call. you guess you could say the angels were on your side since it was extremely quiet tonight. since there weren’t many customers, taehyun had excused himself to run a few errands. he told you to call him if a large crowd ever showed up. but they didn’t. only a few customers here and there. you spent most of your time scrolling through tiktok and seeing if there was anything you could restock.
you start trying to remember if you restocked the toilet paper already before your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the door chime. you look up to see your boss, dressed in a different black tee, looser this time, and a pair of sweatpants.
great.
“taehyun? you’re back already?” you ask, trying your hardest to keep yourself composed.
“mhm, I finished my errands a while ago, just went home to get into some comfortable clothes if that’s okay with you.”
“oh, no it’s okay!” you shake your head, “never thought i’d uh– see my boss in sweatpants but here we are.” taehyun lets out a light chuckle before joining you behind the front counter. he pulls a fancy notebook out of the drawer and begins writing inside. whatever it is, it’s probably business owner things since it looks quite important.
“so, uh, do you know what was so important for soobin tonight?” he asks, eyes still locked on the paper.
“he’s on a date tonight~” you respond, slightly exaggerating your words in a teasing manner. taehyun’s hand freezes and his eyes immediately shoot up to look at you. “a date?” he questions. you nod, a bit confused at his reaction.
“but I thought you two…” he trails off while looking somewhere else. anywhere else but you.
your eyes widen in disbelief. soobin? you? and soobin? I mean sure, the guy is handsome, but he was like an annoying brother more than anything. “huh?! no– no, me and soobin are just friends!”
“ah, that’s a relief…”
you freeze. taehyun was a good-looking guy. you’ve witnessed customer after customer try to flirt with him multiple times but he usually didn’t go along with it. instead, he would give a blunt answer that would leave you snickering in the background.
but with you, things were different. it started with small compliments on your performance, then your personality, then maybe one or two about how you did your hair that day. then it turned into long glances from afar and warm smiles. and now, it’s these comments that he keeps making. comments that are making you feel like you’re one more word away from exploding.
taehyun was silent for a while, taking a moment to find the right words. “actually, i’ve been meaning to tell you something, and I hope you don't mind me being honest.” turning to give your full attention to him, you nod and wait for him to continue.
“over time, i’ve come to realize that I really really like you, y/n. not just as my employee, but as a person too. you bring so much joy to this place, I can't help but feel drawn to you."
his words leave you in shock, your mouth gaped and your hands sweaty. you can’t even come up with anything to say, but he wasn’t finished yet.
“and you work so hard. so hard to the point where it leaves me conflicted. because sometimes I wish you would just give yourself a break, but I also wake up every morning excited to see you again…”
“i’m sorry if this is crossing the line, and I understand whatever decision you decide to make after this. I appreciate the relationship we had, no matter what happens."
you smile warmly, taking a few steps closer to taehyun, making him flustered in the process. you reach out to grab his hands and rub them with your thumb. ”I really really like you too, tae, you have no idea.”
taehyun smiles widely at your confession and your nickname for him before hiding his face in your neck, letting out one of his famous cute noises. “oh? who knew my boss was such a softie?” you let out playfully. “don’t tell soobin.” he whispers, making you laugh. taehyun removes himself from your neck to cherish the sight of your smile, one of his hands reaching up to rest on your cheek.
“is this okay, darling?”
“more than okay.”
you both lean in to finally press your lips together. the kiss is soft and sweet, filled with the unspoken words you two had been sharing through glances and gestures. as the kiss becomes deeper, your arms wrap around his neck loosely and his arms wrap around your waist to pull you even closer. the two of you are so wrapped up in each other that you don’t even hear the familiar chime of the door.
“guess who just had the worst date eve– OH MY GOD”

enemies to lovers with yeonjun
yeonjun x reader — in which you hate him and assume he hates you back, until you realise that maybe he never hated you at all. it’s a long one! requests are open if you want something specific <3
choi yeonjun is the bane of your existence
his mere presence— oof. it infuriates you for no reason
it wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t have to see him everyday
but unfortunately you do
because he’s your brothers (soobin) best friend and has been practically adopted by your family
dear soobin simps feel free to change your brother, i get it bae i totally get it
you can’t catch a break he’s practically moved in at this point
you’re tired of seeing this boy everywhere you look
cant you just go downstairs at 3 am for a glass of water without finding him shirtless in your kitchen munching on a sandwich??
your parents have more pictures of him in your house than of you
#favouritism
#hesthechildtheyalwayswanted
your hatred for him started when you were eight years old
it even caused a rift between you and soobin bc your dumbass bother picked HIS side over yours
#evenmorefavouritism
#justicefory/n:(
what did he do?
PURPOSELY spilled his grape juice all over the front of your trousers making it look like your eight year old self pissed yourself
on a park with fellow kids your age who are mean as hell
you got bullied pretty bad after that and though time moved on and they forgot, you never did
it stuck with you
get behind me i’ll rip his hair out
say the word and i’ll fight him for u
anyways from that day on you DETESTED him
and he’s dumb so he has no idea why but instead of asking
he decided to dislike you back because in his mind that’s the most logical thing to do
what an idiot am i right?
a handsome one tho;)
sorry:( we dislike him rn i still got ur back
constant squabbling over the smallest things because he didn’t know when to shut up and you just hated his face
but not really because if you swallowed your pride just a tad you would admit that you do see the handsomeness within him
don’t worry bae you can admit that you’d jump on his bones if you didn’t hate him so much
ahem. anyways.
you cannot stand him because he’s the devils spawn and he doesn’t deserve your praise
until you’re set to go to prom and you have a really cute date with someone you’d had a crush on for a really long time
yeonjun of course makes a comment about your appearance but you don’t even care
because you have a date with someone special
and he has to attend with soobin so who’s the real loser?
not him my love id love to go with soobin
they leave and you wait back for your date to pick you up
time is ticking by and you’re starting to get a little nervous
your parents are starting to look at you in sympathy and you absolutely want the ground to swallow you up
because you’ve been stood up and it becomes apparent when an hour has passed and still no show or text and you’re starting to feel insecure and stupid
ur perfect bby lemme at ‘em
just when you’re about to hang up your outfit and hide beneath your duvet covers
the doorbell rings and you spring up with immense happiness
because your date hasn’t forgotten you after all
only when you answer the door it isn’t your date
rather yeonjun?? standing with flowers?? and no soobin in sight??
your parents are literally cradling each other in awe
and you’re like ??
“i know being stood up sucks for you but it’s the perfect opportunity for me to make right whatever wrong i did… and ask you to be my date…”
he sounds nervous?? genuine??
there’s a glimmer of hope in his eyes that you just don’t have in you to crush
so you accept the flowers and press a kiss to his cheek before eventually taking his arm
“i kinda don’t wanna go to the prom anymore… can we just go get something to eat? unless you wanna go?”
he seems kinda surprised for a second but then he grins with that stupid little twinkle in his pretty little eyes that admittedly have you swooning
“i’d prefer that honestly”
so that’s exactly what you do
yeonjun drives to a mcdonald’s and he pays for your food and then you just sit in the car park
together
and for as long as you’ve known him you have never actually hung out with him one on one for longer than fifteen minutes
but somehow it’s not awkward?
you both swing into subtle jokes and he even throws in a few flirty comments here and there
which takes you by surprise but what shocks you more is that you don’t mind them??
you retaliate to them but with the same flirty undertones
flirting in a mcdonald’s car park dressed to go to prom
that’s so romantic get out
the bar is in hell i know
don’t even @ me i need a moment rn
i ship u both. get married pls
anyways after eating until your stomachs felt full and there were tears of laughter in your eyes
the dreaded question rolls around
“why do you hate me?”
way to ruin the vibes yeonjun
“because you suck”
i rate the honesty babe
“ok sure i deserve that i think- but what did i do? you never used to hate me when we were kids”
you’re a little annoyed now
because how does he not remember the incident that has stuck in your mind for years?
“do you seriously not remember?”
and he shakes his head looking all clueless
which makes you feel a little embarrassed because had you just been dramatic this entire time?
maybe a little but it’s valid. i back u 100%
get his ass you sweet thing!
“you spilled grape juice all over my jeans at the park and told everyone i peed! i got made fun of for so long after that! it was mean!”
the vibe has been completely ruined now
well done yeonjun
speaking of yeonjun, he feels terrible
he remembers that incident back when he was an absolute menace
he still is but not as bad
what makes him feel worse is that you’ve only ever attacked him due to the hurt he caused you
meanwhile, he was just as mean back in retaliation
his world was literally crumbling
“and soobin took your side! you took my street cred and my brother!”
i’m soobin’s lawyer. he didn’t mean it
okay sorry! i still have your back!
“i’m sorry—truly. i didn’t realise how much it would hurt you or that you held a grudge—”
“maybe you should’ve asked.”
“i know. i’m sorry. i know nuggets won’t help but you can have an extra one of mine…”
you wanted to stay mad at him
but with the way his big eyes stared back at you whilst he held up a nugget as a peace offering
there was something oddly adorable about it
you take it from him because duh? who wouldn’t?
i mean vegans probably wouldn’t—
if you’re a vegan i’m so sorry imagine you’re eating something else
“why did you decide to take me to prom?”
you can’t help but ask the question that’s been prodding at you since you left the house
“saw your jackass date with someone else and soobin felt bad but he had his own date so i said i’d come get you…”
oh.
so it was just a favour for soobin
ok :D that’s fine
not tho is it bae? you lyin?
apart of you hoped that he asked you because he wanted to
perhaps the disappointment showed on your face because suddenly he starts stuttering
but you shake your head and force a smile
me in the mirror after an emotional breakdown :P
“let’s go then. he’s probably wondering—”
“no. that was a cop out.”
pussy
you just gape at him waiting for him to carry on
because what else are you meant to say?
“i wanted to ask you to be my date a while ago but you hated me and to be honest i never hated you, i just felt… i don’t know… bitter i guess? and that’s no excuse. i’m a dick and i know it. but when i saw your date with someone else, i knew it had to be some kind of sign that you were meant to attend the prom with me.”
okay romcom confession KING
go off
before you can comprehend anything, he carries on with his ramble
“i’m so sorry for the hurt i inflicted on you when we were kids, and for the way i’ve behaved since then. i know it won't make up for everything, but if you let me, i will spend every day of my life trying to make it up to you. Even if it takes forever for your feelings of hatred towards me to diminish or disappear altogether, i’ll wait - and hope that one day, i can prove myself to be a worthy partner for you.”
someone grab a bucket i’m gonna be sick ( i’m sliding down my wall crying rn )
i’d fold in an instant
kdrama yeonjun GO OFF
you kinda just sit there like a lemon for a sec
because wot?
literally like what is going on?
“you’ll have to grovel.”
“i will. believe me.”
“and you won’t hurt me?”
“never.”
there’s this look in his eyes that you haven’t seen before
a determined and genuine look that has you feeling quite assured
the grudge against him is still there, of course, it’s not just going to go away
but it’s not as strong and you find yourself feeling rather excited
“then consider this our first date. the first step to making things right.”
yeonjun is a little wary as he takes your hand but the nerves settle when you don’t recoil from him
hesitantly he kisses your knuckles with a grin
“to making things right.”
surprisingly, you’re thankful your date stood you up
but no one is thankful as yeonjun
gosh why do i do these? i literally make myself cry
