The Three Cycle Breakers ♡

Let’s explore how Diane, Todd, and Princess Carolyn broke the chains of their pasts.

Diane – Breaking the silence and self erasure

She grows up in a house where speaking up means being mocked or ignored, so she hides behind sarcasm and “being smart” to survive.

The cycle break comes when she stops performing for everyone else’s comfort she goes to therapy, sets boundaries, and finally admits she’s allowed to just…live. Not prove anything. Not constantly be “on” She refuses to become her parents, even if that means completely redefining her life.

Todd – Breaking the idea that you need to fit the mold

Todd starts as the goofy couch guy everyone underestimates, but he never lets society’s expectations cage him. He comes out as asexual in a world that constantly pushes sex and romance as the end goal.

His cycle break is refusing to measure his worth by “traditional” milestones, career ladders, romantic status, social approval. He chooses found family, kindness, and weird projects that make him happy. That’s liberation in its purest form.

Princess Carolyn – Breaking the grind as love cycle

She grows up in scarcity, forced to be the “capable one” in a broken household. She equates success with overwork because she was taught that love is something you earn by carrying everyone else.

Her cycle break comes when she realizes her daughter doesn’t need a perfect, always working mother. She needs a present one. She learns to pour into herself without seeing it as selfish.

Diane, Todd, and Princess Carolyn’s arcs actually changed my brain chemistry. Three completely different people, all breaking cycles in their own way, proving you don’t have to become who hurt you. I love them for that!

Sometimes I have what I call "New Towel Blindness," which is basically where I forget I'm an adult with adult money that I can exchange for goods and services I would like, like say new towels instead of continuing to use my grandparents' hand-me-down towels they gave me when they downsized and I was in college.

And it is definitely one of those things exacerbated by growing up poor and then being a super poor twentysomething, but I think it's something many of us fall into.

Anyway today I bought a bra that doesn't cause my boobs physical pain, a purse in my style instead of continuing to use the poorly sized not-my-style purse I'd been gifted, and joined a gym because I remembered I can just give someone money in exchange for them teaching me how to lift weights instead of thinking "gosh strength training would be good to do as my body ages I wish I knew how."
