shoutout to tmagp for saying fuck soulmates actually

this is a me thing but the idea of soulmates really doesn't appeal to me because it ignores how love is often situational. two people can love each other and not work out because they want different career goals or a sudden tragedy strikes. I think it's actually more romantic that two people weren't pre-destined to overcome all their conflict or even meet in the first place but they do anyway because they care about each other

I love that Sam and Alice were married in the tma timeline but are just weird friends/coworkers in this one. One, it shows that platonic love can be just as valuable as romantic love, and two, it shows how sometimes things could have worked out and they don't and that's fine. Sam is happy with Celia, and yeah things are a bit fucked in tmagp but in tma they are WAY WORSE. Alice is so sad gang she's happier in the world where they broke up.

this is also the vibe I always got from Jon and Martin. Like they work really well in tma but I honestly can't imagine a lot of other scenarios where these two fucked up little guys would find each other. And like that makes it even better that they did. Two people who wouldn't usually be compatible supported and loved each other in times of hardship and tragedy, not because they were always going to but because they wanted to.
