Y'know I understand the Buried - 'cause today I helped a bunch of guys dig a massive hole on the beach today and it was genuinely really fun. Just - digging a hole, on the beach, talking to each other occasionally.

Demetian

Demetian is the language spoken in Demeta, and widely used within the Sheriko and its worship. It is an OSV language, with adjectives coming before nouns, though postpositions are used. Syllable structure is usual CVC with no consonant limit, stress always falls on the second to last syllable, unless there is two syllables, where it falls on the last.

Gendered language is restricted to names and animate nouns, with three main genders 'fa' (feminine), 'la' (masculine) and 'ma' (neutral). Depending on the dialect these are also the terms used to refer to the cardinal directions (fa - east, la - west, ma - north and sa - south).

There is five main tenses, Present perfect and imperfect, Future, and Past perfect and imperfect. Future and past perfect both have an auxiliary, while present imperfect and past imperfect have a prefix added to vowels. Present perfect has no additional marking. Verbs are conjugated on a stem-suffix style where all verbs end with the suffix -an, which is removed and replaced with a different suffix based on the tense and subject of the verb.

Questions are indicated with an auxiliary verb which always ends the sentence or clause of the question. Negatives are indicated with the prefix ne-, so it's not snowing will be - Sa nehofapalaidnansha.

/n/ - n

/r:/ - k (rolling r)

/l/ - l

/j/ - j (this is a y sound!)

/i/ - i

/u/ - u

/a/ - a

/e/ - e

/o/ - o

All vowels coming with their extended counterparts (represented by a double letter of said vowel)

The written script itself is different from the romanisation however:

It was originally written on stone tablets and carved into mosaic murals some of the oldest still being found in the Sheriko in Sestisial. Where the language is believed to have originated.

Anyways this is technically just the proto-version, as I need to figure what kind of linguistic shift I want to use, and various other elements of linguistic development, so for now this is the modern version unless I change it :)

Okay, but the King in Yellow (as in the fictional play) would make an amazing Leitner actually. Like, its whole thing is that it causes abject terror in anyone who reads it and allows for horrible and terrible ideas to seep into the world. I think it would probably be Spiral - but given the themes of the King in Yellow and its connection with disease and death imagery it could also have some Corruption or End in it as well.

Okay, genuine question - does anybody else get really tired or sleepy when they travel? Like, in a car, train, bus, even a boat? Because for some reason, I do. Sure, it's usually when I'm listening to something with my headphones - but my mother has told stories about how she'd take drives with me around the neighbourhood when I was a wee babe to get me to go to sleep. (Until that stopped working)

I have no idea if this is a bigger thing or not, but I've noticed it a lot more recently.

The people behind me on the coach are playing mediocre pop-songs while I'm trying to listen to my eclectic playlist. I can hear them so clearly through my headphones when the song is quiet.
