Timelapse video of me painting 'Bycatch'. Full video on YouTube, edited down here for IG. Spray paint + acrylic, 24x24". . Painting for @pangeaseed @seawalls_ about the environmental effects of overfishing. The idea is by overfishing we are ultimately shooting ourselves in the foot, bycatching ourselves, the fishing line wrapped around us and hooked to our own mouths. . . Painted using @montana_colors water-based spray which are a super step forward in making spray paint more environmentally friendly - check them oot. . . Overfishing, spray paint + acrylic, 24x24", by David Puck. Painting for @pangeaseed @seawalls_ about the environmental effects of overfishing. The idea is by overfishing we are ultimately shooting ourselves in the foot, the fishing line wrapped around us and hooked to our own mouths (that's right she uses metaphors now). I came up with this image myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if it already exists somewhere in internetland, as to me it makes so much easy metaphorical sense. . . There are so many free and accessible resources online for mental health. It is not just for those with an 'illness'/ 'disorder'. We can all live healthier and happier lives. When we are healthier in ourselves we treat others better, as well as ourselves. There is no weakness nor indulgence in looking after your mental health - our world is perception, how our minds work is the defining factor in our lives. Some of my biggest mental health breakthroughs have come through books and podcasts. I am currently listening to the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) podcast 'Calm Living Blueprint'. Spray + oil paint, A2, by David Puck. I think those who display destructive behaviour should be met with love, support and understanding. It's much easier for us to feel compassion for someone who is inwardly destructive, but those who express it outwardly are also suffering. I personaly rarely feel anger, but when I do it usually stems from pain and insecurity within myself. Next time you yourself feel angry, take note of why you are really feeling that way, and channel that awareness into empathy and support for others. I've struggled with anxiety [and depression] as long as I can remember. The last 2 years have been infinitely better, but anxiety specifically still affects my life in many ways. I think the first step towards helping yourself and anyone else is to be open. . . . Technical talk: This is the first time I've used oil paint in a long time. I switched to acrylic in order to be able to paint quickly and in greater quantity (I only started painting properly 1 year ago so I needed the fast practice). I forgot how much nicer oil paint is, I recommend it to all. I use water-based oils so its just as faff-free as acrylic too.
