After all, light begets darkness, and darkness is drawn to light.
(Hear me out. Sora has a form of darkness right. So what if Riku- *sniper bullet pierces my brain killing me instantly*)

“There is someone I know who taught me that there is no option to give up.”
#kingdom hearts#cloti#soriku#HOW WE FEELIN CHAT IM NOT FEELIN WELL#the white spaces are not blank spaces btw. there’s a bright flash of light during those parts#which i wanted to include for context as to why cloud looks blinded and because#the flashes are indicating the source of the light#and also cloud being unable to look at tifa cause she’s so bright visually parallels the kh1 op with sora struggling to look at riku#cause riku’s too bright#and the kh1 op parallels the kh3 tutorial which parallels this moment in kh3#look you get it. parallels. okay#anyway I’ve been thinking a lot about the ff characters’ arcs/purposes in kh lately#and i realized how much these scenes remind me of each other#tifa taking on sephiroth (the personification of cloud’s darkness) and riku taking on the demon tide#serves the same purpose for cloud and sora when they’re considering giving up#cloud because he believes that sephiroth is right and he can never be free of his darkness#sora because he believes that he is worthless without his friends#tifa and riku both stand up and say no. i believe in you. and I’m going to prove it even if it kills me#and it inspires cloud and sora to jump back into the fight with renewed determination and purpose. to save tifa and riku#nomura also saying in the kh2 ultimania that tifa represents cloud’s light mmhMMMM 👀#oh also the caption quote is what sora tells nameless star in jp

@blowingoffsteam2 Surely, right? It visually calls back to the tutorial in KH3, which is a blatant callback to the op of KH1. It’s the antithesis of when Riku takes the keyblade and leaves Sora on his knees (crying) in KH1. It also parallels Sora’s pov outstretched hand reaching for Riku’s light in DDD. Riku tells Sora, “I believe in you,” which is a callback to what Kairi tells Sora in KH1 when the connection between their hearts is his light in the darkness. But okay, maybe I’m a casual fan and don’t remember/pay that close attention. Or maybe I’m only familiar with the botched ENG localization.
Riku’s stated character arc in KH3 is how he has finally found the strength to protect what matters most to him. His self-sacrifice for Sora, the ultimate act of faith and love, is the climax of this arc (and the game), which follows the pattern in this game of Sora witnessing climactic self-sacrifices in the Disney worlds. Sora’s stated character arc in KH3 is trying to regain his strength like Hercules did — by finding something that inspires him to fight with all his heart. In Disney stories, there’s nothing more powerful than an act of true love, especially a self-sacrifice. After everyone except Riku dies in the Keyblade Graveyard, Sora is at his lowest. He loses the will to fight, and he does not regain it until he sees Riku risk his life and then die to save him. Sora admits to Nameless Star in the Final World that he almost gave up until someone (Riku) said I believe in you, you won’t give up. The game shows Riku’s sacrifice twice. In the tunnel of light, Sora fights to reach Riku and when that doesn’t work, he calls out, “Riku! Answer me!” and the light in the tunnel answers him. It leads Sora to Riku’s heart in Olympus — the realm of the gods that Hercules can only reach after he risks his life to save Meg because she sacrifices herself for him when he’s at his lowest; ie after Hercules understands and demonstrates what it means to be a true hero — where Sora fights to save Riku. Sora wants to save all of his friends, but Riku is who inspires Sora to fight with all of his heart even when it seems impossible. (Which parallels Sora gaining the Power of Waking to save Riku in the Realm of Darkness earlier in this game, but again, maybe I’m a casual fan or just didn’t notice that.)
After Sora frees the hearts of his other friends, he keeps following the connection between his and Riku’s hearts (the light in the tunnel) back to the Keyblade Graveyard, where Riku’s heart has returned to his body/where he “fell” (died). Sora spots Kairi in the tunnel and thinks the light must be his connection to her heart, even though we were just shown it is Sora’s connection to Riku. Then, when Sora gazes into the light, he flashes back to the self-sacrifices he witnessed in the Disney worlds, and as he exits the tunnel he reaches for the source of the light ahead of him, looking thoroughly shook because it’s not coming from Kairi.
However, the game does not press the issue in this installment, so I assume what Sora said must be true despite all the evidence to the contrary I just experienced. Sora’s connection to Kairi is the light in the tunnel. Kairi saved Sora. Riku’s act of love was to show how much Kairi loves Sora. Riku’s sacrifice did nothing (I am an absolute buffoon).
rewatched Riku’s sacrifice. can’t believe there are people who walked away thinking it did nothing
#steam help. i cant#it astounds me how stubborn and/or stupid people are#got me feeling like joe bartolozzi#’USE YOUR BRAIN! THE THING IN YOUR HEAD! USE IT!’#kingdom hearts#soriku#if nothing else they show it twice dude. TWICE#why do they think it’s shown twice???

Uh, how come you’re not upset? Oh, it’s no big deal. He’s a snowman. We’ll just…put him back together.
#this is actually frying me#kingdom hearts#THATS the purpose of the olaf minigame?? THATS what it foreshadows???#also… further suggestion that kairi/kairi’s heart was artificially created

Even in 358/2 Days, where it's said (by Riku himself actually) that Sora's 'most precious memories' are those of Kairi, Roxas's most extreme emotional reactions to his dreams of Sora's memories are when it's memories of Riku Like he remembers 'Giving up already? Come on, Sora, I thought you were stronger than that' and wakes up screaming Riku's name And he cries when he dreams of the time Riku took the Keyblade and Donald and Goofy left Sora
Roxas's reactions to the dreams of Kairi were always more like 'Huh, it happened again'
#i love that their bond shows the ups and downs of what it means to love someone a lot#generally there’s a positive connotation to ‘the person i love most’#and it can be positive. this person makes you feel the greatest joy#but the trade off is that they also make you feel the greatest sorrow#the greatest heartbreak#because to love is to feel. and to love a lot is to feel a lot - for better or worse#kingdom hearts#soriku#it’s not a coincidence that of the times we see sora cry due to his own emotions it’s more often than not because of riku#the tear roxas sheds over riku taking the keyblade and abandoning sora w donald and goofy in kh1#sora’s sudden tears in the land of dragons bc he’s so happy riku’s okay and misses him#the infamous kh2 reunion where sora falls to his knees sobbing and gripping riku’s hand#his heart seems to know what his head doesn’t#i also love how sora’s ‘reunion’ with namine in com blatantly parallels his true reunion with riku in kh2#and even though atp in com namine is supposed to be sora’s most precious person/the person he loves most#having replaced sora’s memories of kairi (and at least one memory of riku)#sora’s reaction to finding namine is not nearly as intense and emotional as his reaction to finding riku#like it’s not even close
