hey im agender and afab and when im feeling dysphoric, i worry that all women actually feel the same way i do and that im not actually agender. it causes me significant distress and i often struggle with self-doubt even though i know deep down that i am agender and that my presentation/willingness to be in the closet is a personal choice but… yknow? ): Do you have any advice for trusting yourself and silencing that transphobia?

this is something i used to worry about too, and what really changed that was embracing the chosenness of our trans identities - not because we "choose" to feel dysphoric, and not even because we "choose" to feel alienated from our assigned sexgender label. instead, the choice here is to assign political and relational salience to our distance from sexgender norms, expectations, and demands.

when you identify yourself not only as dissatisfied with the female/womanhood forcibly assigned to you, but positively, with being agender, trans, gender-noncompliant in some way, you affirm the power of envisioning alternatives to a life as a miserable cis person, ignorant of trans possibility. maybe somewhere there is a woman, who truly identifies as such, who feels the same way as you. but you've opened the door to a new way of conceptualizing your gender, and a new community in which to explore new modes of self-actualization. trans isn't a box you either fit or don't. it's a relationship + opportunity for care, change, and celebration.

I recently had to get my car fixed to the tune of $1k and I have gallbladder surgery coming up at the end of the month. Most of my time off work for the procedure/recovery will likely be unpaid, and what I am paid will probably be delayed by a few weeks.
