you better be joking
the blip only happened few days ago and the world was left reeling. Adeline had already gotten a call from the ER saying she had been blipped and she hadn’t seen peter since the day of the blip. she was trying to figure out how she was going to keep the apartment as a 15 year old that didn’t have a job and no parental figure. Adeline had just come home from 3 job interviews in a row and before she even sat down the phone was ringing. fuck she thought, she picked up the phone
“hello this is the parker residance” she sighed clearly exhausted
“is may there?” a strange man’s voice asked
“no sir she was blipped, is there anything I can do for you?”
“is Adeline there?”
“this is she”
“we need you at the avengers compound ASAP”
“pardon?”
“its about your brother” and with that the person hung up. shit, is he okay?, was he blipped? is he alive? I can’t do any of this without him. what am I supposed to do? her hands shook so badly she could barely pick up her phone to order an uber. thoughts raced through her head and her heart was pounding so hard she thought she would have a heart attack. the moment the uber pulled up Adeline jumped in and told the driver to get her to the avengers compound ASAP. when the car pulled up and she paid the driver she appraoched the building. Tony Stark was waiting outside, he looked thin and frail. like the slightest breeze would blow him over. without words he brought her inside and lead her into a more private room.
“where is my brother?” she said, voice scratchy from talking all day.
“Adeline... he was dusted” he wasn’t even making eye contact.
“pardon?”
“I’m sorry kid” all her bottled up emotion were bubbling to the surface.
“look if this is some kind of sick twisted prank...” the sadness in his eyes told her it was real.
“I’m sorry” he repeated. this time she didn’t say anything she just got up and walked out. she could feel the other avengers eyes on her while she made her exit. Adeline couldnt hold everything in once she got home, she had lost everything, she had no one left, what was there left to live for? she bypassed her floor and kept going up. when she finally came to a locked door, she threw her body against it until it gave way. a breeze caressed her cheek. new york looks amazing from up here she thought. she took a step into thin air.

a story
the fellowship had just left rivendale. the sun was going down and claire had started a fire. it was quiet, no one really felt like talking. pippen kept wiggling around and opening his mouth to talk but closing before he could say anything.
“out with it boy, you clearly want to talk” said claire, more harshly then she ment to
“why are you here?” he blurted while staring at her so intensley she thought he might be trying to read her mind with his eyes.
“well Im a seasoned warrior, and elrond trusts me to help guard the ring”
“seasoned warrior?” chimed in gimli sarcasticly “what have you been fighting for, 30 years?”
“gimli, lets not” said aragorn trying to diffuse the tension
“no aragorn its fine” said claire with a chilling politeness. she leaned closer to gimli “I am 241 years old and I have been fighting for 230 of those years. I fought in the battle of the five armies alongside thorin and his company, I witnessed the fall of erabor, I was there when legolas pulled your picture out of your fathers wallet and called you a goblin mutant. it would be in your best interests to not question me or my skills” a look of realization and shock dawned on his face.
“wait... you’re THE claire? as in the company of thorin oakensheild claire?”
“damn straight” she said and lit her pipe over the fire. and just like that scilence reigned over their campsite. until merrys voice came soft with undertones of sleep.
“hey claire, can you tell us a story?”
“sure what kind of story?”
“I don’t care, maybe a battle story?”
“that is a very large bracket, narrow it down a little”
“how did you lose your leg?” interjected pippen
“oof thats quite a story... but sure why not” the entire fellowship was listening closley to the shapechanger’s voice “very, extremly long story short, the battle of the five armies had just started and it was looking good for everyone not on the goblin and orc’s side. I was fighting near the edge of the battle just trying to take down as many as I could and I was doing quite well; that is until they singuled me out as a problem that needed to be dealt with. quicker then I can react 4 orcs had me backed up against the mountain. I took advantage of my shape changing abilities. I lept at the first one and changed mid-air into a sabertooth tiger, my claws slashing his throat. then I changed back, I now had an advantage as I wasn’t up against a wall anymore. I knocked the second one out but didn’t kill him using the form of a bear. and I beat the third one in a good old fashioned swordfight. blade to blade orcs are good but this one was no match for me, he ended up with my sword through his chest. I stopped for just a second when the second one came to and started slshing at my legs, only one of his swings hit. it cut my leg off right under the knee. my first though was ‘shit my balance’ intead of ‘where the fuck is the rest of my leg’, but I stabbed him before he could do anything else. it was at this point that I began to get concerned about my leg. I sat down up against the same mountain I was cornered against earlier, knowing the I could not be of any use in that shape” she paused to take a drink of water then started again “I knew somewhere in the back of my mind that I needed to stop the bleeding or I was a gonner, so I took my canteen lighter heated up my sword until it was red hot, bit down on my scabbard and cauterized it.”
“what does that mean?” asked frodo, it had been a while since he had last spoken. aragorn responded
“it means she used the hot sword and burned it closed”
all the hobbits gasped at that.
“well?” said pippen “what happened after?”
“I’m alive, what do you think happened?”
