God. Look how happy they are. Not all of them, but definitely at least half of them. Half a dozen of the thousands of refugee children, given citizenship so they can be sacrificed to the Old Age Devil because a bunch of middle-aged politicians care more about their own comfort and health than thousands of innocent lives.

And the kids have no idea what's going on. If they have any suspicion, it's quiet enough to be smothered by their hope. Surely some of these came with their parents, who were relieved that at least their children could have a new home. None of them could have guessed that home was a mass grave.

One of Chainsaw Man's underrated strengths is making deadly statistics feel real. This panel isn't the same as chapter 75 & 76's list of Gun Devil casualties, but it's still reinforcing the importance of these background deaths.

Whether faceless names or nameless faces, people killed by the Gun Devil or sacrificed to the Age Devil have less narrative significance than Kobeni's car. But they are still people, people who are dying, and Fujimoto does not want us to forget that, no matter how much high-power devil violence is going on in the foreground.

this is basically fossil au

i wish that was a joke but fossil au started as a completely empty one-sentence concept until this gag comic hit me like a ton of bricks and that's what got me developing it into a proper au. that's also why the first panel is (intentionally) hard to read. so thank you gag comic emmet for 1. wearing the dumbest outfit on the fucking planet, it still makes me laugh 2. helping me make this au also.

That makes this the first drawing I ever made of the fossil au. I have no regrets
