Typography. Michael Tully. Magazine re-design for “Bitch Magazine.” They’re movie reviews, and one of the movies called “Their Finest” is about a woman feeling uncomfortable working in an environment with all men. So I decided to include a photograph from the movie that encapsulates that feeling. I added the faded screen reviews type in the background to increase readability and add contrast to the red pop-out text. I implemented a timeline of movies instead of having them listed to the side.

Graphic Design, Shawn Hasto. Vinyl cover design for Leos Janacek’s Sinfonietta. The music is classical and beautiful, but the content is about world war II. So, I decided to juxtapose war imagery with flowers.

Graphic Design. Shawn Hasto. Book Jacket design for Miranda July’s short story Making Love in 2013 from her short story novel No One Belongs Here More Than You. The story is about a journalist who goes to a woman’s house for an interview, and the woman has various pillows with “Making Love In _____” so I embroidered this pillow and photographed it for the cover.

Book jacket design for Miranda July’s short story “Mon Plaisir” from Nobody Belongs Here More Than You. The author writes vivid and peculiar stories; this one specifically is about a mom who gets divorced and becomes Buddhist and vegan, so I photographed a Buddha for the cover.

Graphic Design. Shawn Hasto. Architect Project. I choose Le Corbusier. We were instructed to make one poster supporting the architect’s style, and one opposing the architect’s style. This one is supporting his style because he uses this bright yellow in almost all of his building. I used figure drawings of Le Corbusier because they were all drawn using the perfect ratio that he’s famous for.

This one is opposing his style because he usually uses the perfect ratio, and bright colors. So, I used pastel colors and free-form one line drawings of aeiral views of his room layouts.

Typography. Michael Tully. Principles of typography assignment. I choose equal spacing and drop-out typography. The content was up to me so I choose a music festival poster for the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago

Typography. Michael Tully. The assignment was to choose from a list of typographic principles, and I choose repetition and oblique type. The content and size was up to us, so I choose Kendrick Lamar’s album “Damn” because in his songs he says “DAAAAAAAAMN” and these techniques imitate that sound.

Typography. Michael Tully. Pick a graphic designer that inspires you, and create a poster in their style. I choose Muriel Cooper, because she uses dimensional typography and bright colors. The first image is the rough draft, and the last image is the final draft.
