this essay is just growing day by day it basically become a mass document on kaiser, ness, their intertwining themes, and their relationship. this is what happens every time I try to write something analytical I can't stop yappingggggg

This is what I mean by saying they work together. kaiser projects onto others a fuck-ton (still wish we got more about that locker room scene) and everything comes down to his two childhood dreams forged by his trauma: freedom & love. I'm writing a muchhhh longer piece on it and how it relates to ness but I kind of want the arc to end first because I think if ness doesn't get anything here (fingers crossed he does), there will be some hint of exactly where kaneshiro wants to take the duo and if they're(kaiser in particular) truly doomed or not

I feel like all kaiser conversation is cursed because half of the fandom insists on trying to subvert expectations with his character so hard they make him something he's not. then the other half is still stuck in manshine, where he's super shallow. yes, he's insecure and craves love, but he's still a sadist who lives his life through malice. the two are not separate; one side is not "fake," and the other is "real." so much of the nuance of his character is lost leading to constant mischaracterization so he can fit a trope rather than just honoring his character's themes cohesively. it's really frustrating to see and I'm a shipper of both of his ships, but they play a HUGE role in this.

I find that the fandom does not do vulnerable kaiser much justice because their idea of him allowing himself to be love is just crying and bottoming when there's so much more that can be done with his development. getting profiles and learning that not only is his type someone that's affectionate, but that ness is all about nurturing and focuses so much on emotions felt like a GIFT.

It's honestly surprising to me that I find better displays of kaiser's journey to healing in kaisagi content opposed to kainess when we literally have the character that's made for the role of loving him.

KaiNess shippers tend to view Kaiser as either the flirty dominant who tops or as the emotionally-constipated bottom with his guard all up. And that’s fine and all, but just now I had a vision

What if we had clingy Kaiser

I want to imagine that after he’s done with all this malice bullshit (i.e his angsty teenage phase) and he finally allows love into his life like a normal person, he’d wanna get close to Ness because he just craves affection. However, he doesn’t know how to ask for it and doesn’t dare to initiate it either, so instead of just going up to Ness to hug him, he just hovers on the side awkwardly. But when Ness finally gets the hint and holds him, Kaiser is never letting go. (Ness is more than fine with this)

this is interesting for me because kainess is the only ship I have where I'm fixed. I think it's because I'm obsessed with them in canon so deviating from that heavily (which nski tends to do) doesn't appeal to me. plus I can get my bottom kaiser fix from any of the other characters I ship him with before ness since it's more canon-like that they would be able to make him submit or even want that from him.

I fully and shamelessly admit that I have preferences on who tops or bottoms in the gay fanfics I read, but after 20+ years of living, I can now confidently say, I have one ship where I genuinely don't mind it going either way.

And that's KaiNess.

Kaiser topping Ness is good, because the angst and humiliation potential is there, reminiscent of canon, but Kaiser crying and breaking down or being the world's brattiest bottom as Ness finally gets the chance to put him in his proper place on his kneeeees-

my mutual put me on so hard to the headcanon that kaiser is quick to come. It fits to me because he's the type to spend a lot of time on foreplay since it allows him to study his partner thoroughly, getting a feel for where they're most sensitive and what sets them off before he starts working on his own pleasure.

ness is such an easy person to crack, and at first, kaiser thinks it's a good idea, those exaggerated reactions being fun to play with until he's a few pumps in and comes before ness even gets the chance to adjust, still whimpering and squirming without realizing that kaiser already finished. it can be insanely funny or deep, but either way, kaiser is sooo embarrassed I can't imagine it

I've always played with him being a beta, or even a submissive alpha, but the level of emotional awareness he has and the nurturing nature that seems to come to him instinctively (given his answer to the strengths question) is so beautiful I love him so much it hurts
