hellth
Today, health is something that Filipino citizens would try to avoid to take care of as much as possible. Hearing the phrase “magpa check-up ka” feels like a drag to some, especially to those who are not privileged to availability of money. It’s not just about who’s rich or not, it’s also about the basic system that makes it worse. It’s similar to the hellish transport system of the country. Some patients would fall in such a long line, in an untidy ambience, just to have minimal care of their health that would mostly cost at a level they can’t afford. I’ve seen some posts where some patients in public hospitals would lie on the floor for a long span of time with their children, some are outside because of an unmovable line. It’s frustrating to think that a basic human right is being neglected because of a complex system that everyone cannot fully apprehend. Another serious matter going around this country is that people with suits who do nothing but corrupt the government or the minds of the mass citizens get to have a say on health issues. What’s worse is that they seem to give conflict on scientific facts that have been proven. For example, Atty. Persida Acosta gave statements about Dengvaxia that makes it more harder for the parents of the country whether they should be okay with that vaccine to be injected to their kid/s. According to Inquirer.net, as in the beginning of this issue, one priority remains: reassuring the public that the children who were vaccinated are most likely safe; that everything is being done to get the facts straight; and that there are channels they can reach if the kids present with any symptoms.  Political issues in this country are really messy that it came to the point where health rights are being mixed up on that mess. But what’s a mess if it’s not going to be be cleaned up. I still have hope that one day, health service is not something to be worried about. Families will have peace of mind knowing that they can afford a simple check up whenever they feel horrible or just nauseous.

Click Precisely
The internet is a gift and a curse to mankind. It helps us express what we feel, brag what we eat, or showcase where we’ve been. We automatically use it to entertain ourselves, but another characteristic that the internet has is its ability to inform and spread awareness to the netizens. One click and you’ll get an information that you never knew you needed.  When social media became a part of our everyday lives, we scroll through people who post their dog photos, 15-second video of their favourite hangout place, or a news article. An article that they’re not sure if it’s legitimate or not. These people probably posted it without even seeing the whole article by only reading the headline, it’s funny because they’ll easily throw a composition of rants without knowing the whole story. Misinformation has been spreading for years now, even people with influence tend to believe and defend a certain “fake news”, especially when it comes to politics. Social media is like a challenge for journalism, it’s hard to tell if someone is actually credible enough to pass on a message to a mass audience. Heck, even a 15-year old kid with a good writing skill can post a fake news on his facebook profile for fun and a chance of people feeding on his/her story is possible.  Social media can be really tricky but the real tricky one here is the general public. What I mean by “general public” is those people with selective reading when it comes to important issues. Social media might have started as a fun platform but aren’t we glad that we’re in a digital era where incredible stories or awareness are being spoon-feed to us yet we choose to argue if we’re #TeamBea or #TeamJulia. I don’t want to be a killjoy when it comes to using social media but people have been fighting over about Spiderman leaving Disney and returning to Sony. It received tons of media coverage, articles about it have been published, it trended on Twitter with millions of tweets. I’m upset that Spiderman will be out of the MCU but I am appalled that Brazil’s Amazon rainforest has been on fire for three weeks. It is a home for an estimated three million plants and animals and also a home for indigenous people but people in Brazil are firing the Amazon to illegally deforest it for cattle ranching. I noticed that no movement has been made prior about this disaster, the smoke of the fire even caused a blackout to the city, even their president is letting this problem slide away. The worst part is that it only got attention after three weeks while a post about celebrity affairs can be alarming to thousands of people in just a minute. Also, a glacier in Iceland has been “killed” by climate change for the first time. Another alarming news is that the former Mayor of Calauan, who raped Eileen Sarmenta and murdered Allan Gomez, is set to be released in two months’ time, I really hope he won’t be set free. It proves how dreadful the justice system is in the Philippines. I don’t want to take away the fun in social media. I just think that people should burst their bubble to see the unbearable reality that we have, I know some of them are already aware and they use social media to escape reality and have fun, or some of them are hustling on their career for a living. It’s hard to close your eyes when it’s fully awake, I’d rather open mine instead of being an apathetic kid.
