PHOTOS: The progressive groups of Southern Tagalog showed their condemnation of the genocide faced by the Palestinians in Gaza this afternoon, May 30, by holding a snake rally at the [University of the Philippines Los Baños, or UPLB].
This is part of this year's May Protest led by the League of Filipino Students - UPLB where anti-imperialist calls were drummed. This will be followed by the Solidarity Night for Palestine tonight at the SU Amphitheater.

Trekking Adventure at UP Los Baños
Me and my friends went on a trekking trip at UP Los Baños, and it was such an unforgettable experience. 🥾✨
We started our trek at 7AM and end by 12PM. We reached Station 10 after that we continued our adventure and visited Mudspring and Flatrocks. It was a long and tiring day — our bodies were aching and we were exhausted — but being with my friends made it all worth it. The laughter, the shared stories, and the view from every stop made every step feel lighter. 💪🏼💚
It was an unforgettable moment for me. I got to spend a full day with my friends, and even just for a short time, I was able to experience peace, quiet, and nature all around me. 🌳🍃
UPLB’s trails offered fresh air, calming scenery, and a perfect break from the usual daily routine. I’m already looking forward to our next trip. 🌱

it’s the best day of the year! today is the birthday of the poetry of my life, my dear papa cesar. initially i wanted to go on a full day trip to osaka and kobe, but i decided to just go on a nice long walk to celebrate. i feel like i will feel my father’s day deeper and slower that way.
i visited the Daihikaku Senkōji Temple in Arashiyama. the bridge and the bamboo grove are always packed with tourists, but the area further into the river was so peaceful and quiet.
the hike was quite a breather, both in the sense that i was out or breath and it was tranquil. but it’s a pretty easy climb and did not make me feel scared, except for the snake i saw amid the stairs >.<
the temple was empty when i reached it, and it was absolutely beautiful. it felt like. we could write free notes in the notebook they provided, so i wrote a little letter for my papa cesar.
i will definitely go back again. it truly felt like spirited away (just like all the mountain trails here lol)
the skies, mountains, the rivers, the flowers, and the birds were all singing a birthday song to my papa 🤍

Happy to bump into UPLB forestry alumna and licensed forester Desiree Abalos. I met her initially over a decade ago as a student assistant in different UP offices, tirelessly supporting her college education and preparing eventually for her licensure exams.
Her hard work and determination paid off, as she obtained her forestry license and now works at the Commission on Higher Education. Inspiring to see her thriving in her career and positively impacting her community 🙏

satisficing slot shortage
when we can't optimize, we satisfice (satisfy+suffice).
i personally do not like that anyone in the uplb faculty has to resort to this, but the teacher was left with no other ethical and moral choice, hence, the satisficing.
the issue of limited slots in courses is not new. i vividly remember being one of the summer students in 2010 ̶b̶e̶g̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ queuing for a slot in nasc 10 (forests as a source of life), a general education (ge) course and the lone ge out of ~27 offered that summer at the heart of the makiling forest reserve. from 160, the class size became 220 due to the teacher's prerogative, an institutionalized mechanism in the up system where a professor (in this case, a team of faculties-in-charge) may accept additional students on their own volition.
it has been at least a decade and this problem lingers. increase faculty items, decrease class sizes, more facilities - a few of the possibly many solutions a true national university deserve.

thesis-it!
Today, I met with a potential thesis co-adviser at the UPLB-Institute of Weed Science, Entomology, and Plant Pathology. Since high school, I have always looked forward to making this final requirement in college. This is because I have always been fascinated by the process of research. Though it may be an arduous journey, I feel that it might be just what I need to finally see the end of my path in undergraduate. She introduced me to a topic I could work on based on my interests. Her enthusiasm towards it is contagious. It is important for me that my mentors can match my energy so I was grateful that I saw that in her. Maybe this is it, I can finally work on a possible thesis topic.
