why California By Chappell Roan is Asrickus coded in such a way

(an unhinged rambling by yours truly)

So we're doing little lyrical sections and just to preface, this coding is based on what little we know about Hythae (Asri's home planet) and what happened to the Taruxians (who apparently just disappeared one day???)

So we know that Asri's life basically goes: home planet -> exploring/research ship(genuinely can't remember) -> Oasis ship with Solstice -> Bounty hunting with Romeo. This and the transitions between each era and what happens within them are very important and we know little about them

I mention this to say that this first part feels too me a lot like him going to space on his original exploration ship, trading the familiar sights of Hythae for that of the rest of the entire Galaxy Chasing that new environment, that potential of excitement.

Space exploration was incredibly new to their species, they were one of the first Taruxians in space, it's entirely unfamiliar and if we're working with an estimated timeline of how old he was when he came to space, probably about 20-21 (big shout-out to @m0rninglatte for giving me that rough timeline as my brain does not work well with numbers) and if that doesn't scream starry eyed young adult jumping into a new, exiting, and incredibly risky endeavor, I don't know what does

Something probably happened to the ship he was originally on, we don't know what though, but all the other Taruxian from there most likely are out of the picture for one reason or another. Between the time when he met Solstice and then his first thought was probably to just go back home, his expedition was a bust and there was nothing left for him out there anymore. It's the shattering of that idealized version of this, things have gone wrong, everything he expected to happen at this point has vanished.

Suddenly the rest of the world being new and unfamiliar isn't exciting, but daunting. It's terrifying and he has no idea what's out there and the rest of the world isn't made to accommodate him. Everything is too small, he doesn't fit in quite literally. He wants to go back to his home, where no one looks at him weird or stares for too long because of his size. Where sure, he was important, but he didn't feel so Other. Even if it was basically the space version of a small middle of nowhere town, it was his home. The people there knew him and he knew them and everything wasn't so strange and he knew what to expect.He let them down, their expedition didn't go well. He was supposed to set an example as one of the first Taruxian in space and he failed them.

Okay this part is giving solstice era, because even when he's with her he wants to go visit his home but when he gets there his people are gone. Everyone he knew, everyone he loved, everything he ever knew, all evidence of his peoples entire existence beyond abandoned buildings is erased I suspect that maybe their people disappearing is what caused them to have that rough time they described before Solstice left them, so imagine that last bit is said by her.

again, after finding something stable, his entire life is uprooted. He has no friends, no family to speak of, and most likely nothing but the clothes on his back before Romeo finds him.Just thinking about him lost and out of place in a space port with no idea how to move forward, wishing for nothing more than to turn back time, to go back home, to wake up in his home too a family that loved him and a place that he knew, to find out that all of this was an awful dream and he can go back to the way things were, where it may not be as exciting, but it was stable. but he knows that place is gone, and he has no way of getting there anyway. He is completely cut off from everything and everyone and has no where left to go.

Of course then the bestie shows up and things get better, but thank you for coming to my TEDtalk
