carlcigh:
thumbs furiously tapping away on her phone as she walked down the street, carleigh was oblivious to her surroundings. she had been walking for nearly fifteen minutes in search of a coffee shop, but when she lifted her head from her phone she could tell that she was lost. reaching out, she granned the arm of the nearest person, “yeah, hi, can you point me in the direction of the nearest coffee shop? and don’t tell me where starbucks is, i need something good.”
her immediate disregard to even greet dominic at all offended him. “wow, you’re grumpy without your coffee huh? not even a simple ‘hey dom’ — just jump right into it, why don’t you?” clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth, he playfully shook his head, scolding the opposite brunette’s cold nature. “unless you’re really in that much of a rush, we can go get some coffee together at the little shop just a block down. it’s where i go just about every morning, and if you trust my judgment even a little bit, you’ll find it’s much better than starbucks, too. — which i also hate, might i add.”

Savannah leaned over the smudged mirror that desperately needed a cleaning, and tried to get a good reflection through the mirror’s smudges. The club, this club, was one of the only places she had ever stayed long enough to be like a home. It was a sad thought when a girl’s closest thing to a home was a hole in the wall strip club that she danced for. Smearing a dark red lip stick on her lips she rolled them together gently and run her fingers through her hair. One of the on night shift door man’s reminded her that she was up next. Tightening the clasp of her high platform pumped heels and pushed her cleavage up and heard the familiar notes of Rock you like a Hurricane blared through the clubs speakers and she made her way to the stage. Grabbing the pole she swung a little flirting with the audience, every so often she found herself making contact with a figure in the back. Biting down on her lip she made it her goal to flirt with the figure encouraging them to come closer. When the didn’t she lost herself in her dance the feeling of older men’s eyes on her body seemed almost normal to her now. As the song ended she collected the tips and grabbed the tiny dress that she had taken off during her routine and headed back stage. Stashing her cash in her bra she slipped the tight black dress back on and decided to approach the figure she was making eye contact with. Seeing them at the bar she leaned over next to them before speaking up and looked them up at down. “What brings someone like you into a place like this?” She asked her voice dripping with sultry and she waited for the other to respond.
something about the atmosphere of strip clubs hadn’t ever sat comfortably in the pit of his churning stomach. the act of men ogling virtually naked women on a stage and paying them for their audience disturbed him, it just didn’t feel right. going against every fiber of his being that otherwise felt his skin crawling with revulsion, dominic stationed himself at the bar for the entirety of the night. it wasn’t wise to be drinking on the job, although it would raise flags in onlookers minds when he’d just be lingering there, perfectly sober, hardly enjoying the show before him, let alone a drink. a few drinks gradually proved to be the solution that was required for him to ease into this role, now becoming enthralled by the current dancer performing on stage. dom wasn’t certain if he’d been deluded by the little alcohol that he’d partaken in, or if it was a reality that she kept eyeing him at every chance she stole. the mesmerizing way she moved her body had admittedly captured all of his undivided attention, every so often pulling the rum and coke drink he ordered through the straw with his eye contact never swaying as he indulged. it was unintentional, the way he’d momentarily forgotten about his task at hand, yet it all came back to him once she’d finished. with a new woman surfacing to replace the previous dancer, he’d been roped back into his position and reminded himself that his sole purpose for tonight was to fish for information. it was hardly any discernible amount of time that he’d last witnessed the captivating brunette before he’d come face to face with her again — her company joining him at the bar. “someone like me?” he questioned her inquiry incredulously, some haunting concern lurking behind his thoughts that she was perhaps onto him and his motives. a slight angle is applied to his stature, so that now he’s able to face her properly while he addressed their conversation. “i should ask you — what’s someone like you working at a place like this? we both know you don’t do this for fun.” there was a delicacy in his socializing, as he wasn’t planning on upsetting somebody who potentially walked right into his trap. “anyway, now that you’re done,” a warm smile tugged demandingly at the corners of his mouth while he admittedly snuck a swift glance over her figure as he spoke, “how about a drink for all your hard work up there? and to help you forget about the creepy audience you danced for.”

brennan let out a quiet chuckle seeing dom drop by, a genuine grin stretching across his face. it was always a pleasant surprise to see his friends visit him while he was working, despite the possibility of not having the time to actually interact with them. but, this was his last appointment for the day and he’d been applying the finishing touches, so it wouldn’t be long before he was free. setting back to work, he finished the piece within minutes and once he’d gotten the guy wrapped up and sent him on his way, he made his way back over to his friend, taking a seat opposite him. “so, is this a personal visit, or are ya finally try’na get some ink?”
the question aimed in his direction had stumped him momentarily. it was a decision he’d juggled around in his thoughts for an extensive period of time, surprising even himself that he’d failed on settling. before dom could muster up a surefire response, he prolonged his silence with a sip of the light blue beverage. “a bit of both.” the truth finally came out as he slipped a partial admittance to the latter option. “i’ve been debating for a while now & i’m not sure if i’m still unknowingly drunk from last night or if i’m finally getting the balls to come see you for an official appointment but —— i think i want to do this. i’ve got a certain idea in mind. a simple idea. something small to start, you know? initials and a date, i don’t know if you have any additional ideas that could liven the letters and numbers up, though.”

He’s three hours into a particularly extensive piece covering the entirety of his client’s back, concentration clear in his expression as his vision is trained on the stencil. It’s coincidence that he takes a small break at the same time as the door to his shop comes swinging open to reveal a familiar face, bringing a small smile to Brennan’s lips. “Gimme, like, fifteen minutes, yeah?” He calls out, gesturing to the tattoo in progress. “I’m almost done.”
although his skin shown bare, no ink to soil his fair flesh, that still hadn’t meant that dom rejected the possibility of ever going under the needle, so to speak. he’d learned a thing or two from his older brother, considering he was littered in tattoos riding up the length of his arm. however, dominic was more of a sentimental guy, and if he was to get something so permanent, it would require a significant meaning to him for it to be etched so visibly into his skin. with his brother no longer being a viable option for advice, who better than brennan to go to? “alright, alright.” he acknowledged his friend’s plea while he padded over to plop into an empty seat. “i come bearing gifts though — gatorade. so you might want to hurry up if you want it cold.”

hi !! i wrote a novel long intro ( YIKES sorry !! ) below, but here’s dom~
(CHRIS WOOD - MALE, 24) — have you met DOMINIC CAVANAUGH yet? word is that he is ASTUTE & FERVENT, though if you catch him on the wrong day, he can also be PARANOID & ALOOF. i heard that he is a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR, but don’t take it from me. when he was moving in, i thought i heard RESTLESS by COLD WAR KIDS playing from his apartment. pretty appropriate, right?
BACKGROUND:
dominic cavanaugh was born and raised in chicago, IL. — up until the age of 16.
he was the second born of four children; one older brother, one younger sister and a younger brother.
dom could almost say that he had the perfect, white picket fence life. ALMOST. however, there was one factor that consistently proved to be an obstacle for that reality — his older brother.
although first born, the eldest cavanaugh always appeared to be the black sheep of the family. his personality, for some odd reason, hadn’t blended well with the rest of the tight knit family. for as long as dominic could recall, he and his brother had a rocky relationship; the other always finding himself drawn to the wrong type of crowd and getting far too deeply involved with their antics.
dominic ended up being the one to bare the responsibility on his back of taking care of their family; as said older brother was always far too busy vanishing during the daytime hours only to return back home, sneaking through the door and up the stairs during late night/early morning. he learned a sense of responsibility early; taking his younger siblings under his wing.
in spite of everything juvenile he’d done, dom still loved his older brother and in some ways, wanted desperately to look up to him. as much bad as he brought upon the family, there were rare moments that shone through which showed how much he truly cared for dom; always fiercely protective over him. no matter what, dom was the first person who’d rush to the scene to pick his brother up from stumbling along the sidewalks or lost in a shady abandoned warehouse.
HOWEVER, times took a drastic change when one day, after he finished his sophomore year, his brother had overdue debts owed to a certain rather notoriously dangerous group of men (men that he clearly underestimated), that they made sure the entire family would pay for.
(TW: VIOLENCE/DEATH) he’d decided to go on a road trip away with some friends for a week to the beach, taking a break from all of the stress from both school and his family, and that’s when he’d received the phone call that literally changed his life. five days into his vacation, and at 2 in the morning his dad began ringing his phone off the hook. ignoring it the first couple of times as he was trying to sleep, he eventually answered as it seemed to be urgent. “your mother has been stabbed.” was a sentence dom wasn’t bracing to hear at this time of night or so suddenly, and once it finally hit, he wasted no time in getting his clothes, etc. together and driving straight back home.
sure enough, he’d arrived at the hospital too late, when he came through and received news from the doctors that his mother had succumbed to her injuries. his father, only coming out with a few cuts and bruises thankfully, was distraught and devastated. it soon became clear that this was a message given by the gang that his older brother owed heaping piles of money to.
this was the final straw that broke the camels back so to speak for dominic, and when the police began questioning the motives behind such a brutal attack, dom had no hesitation in throwing his brother and his illegal/reckless ways under the bus. soon enough, with the charges catching up to him, the eldest cavanaugh had been thrown behind bars — put in prison for a decade. with the knowledge now that dom and his family had been relieved of their careless sibling, they decided to up and move away from chicago; as they very clearly weren’t safe there. who knew when that sort of horrific incident would occur again, and to which member?
they moved to san fran, far enough away from their troubles. from there on out, dominic finished and graduated from high school. he went on to college where he majored in criminal justice and obtained his degree. inspired by the events that haunted his teenage years and the horrible decisions repeatedly made by his older brother, dom went down the path of becoming a criminal investigator. the people who murdered his mother had still been out there, and that nightmare would live on forever to linger over him like a storm cloud until he brought justice to her killers.
his father owns a bar called Cavanaugh’s (naturally), where dom will commonly be found helping him during any free time he can manage to make for himself. whether he’s bartending thanks to lack of staff, or cleaning around the space, or just enjoying a drink, Cavanaugh’s has become a favorite spot of his.
PERSONALITY:
dominic is somebody who had to grow up quickly too young, so he’s far more matured than most 24 year old men his age at the moment. he’s also trying his hardest to stay true to his roots and remain a good guy, despite all the shit that life has thrown at him. with the immense stress of his job and the cases that weigh heavily on him, along with the past that he still has yet to overcome mentally, he’s constantly found drinking. not to say that he has a problem, per se, but he definitely tends to like to get drunk far more often than not.
despite his maturer side, he still loves to be playful, a bit sarcastic, but overall he cares far too much for people that sometimes could make him an easy target to be taken advantage of. he puts his family first, always, and will make his brother, sister, or father his number one priorities above all else. this has proved to come between a few relationships of his in the past.
OVERALL, DOM IS JUST NOT A GOODY GOOD GUY, BUT NOT A BAD GUY EITHER. he also hates drugs, clearly, he can’t be doing drugs with his field of work as he’s drug tested all of the time. but he is breaking some rules considering he’s going into records he’s not supposed to, looking into his mother’s murder case that had been closed years ago, and he also abuses his power to obtain information regarding his brother’s whereabouts and updates from his life in prison.
CONNECTIONS:
sibilngs, duh ( but more so wc so... )
exes (girlfriends/flings)
a roommate?? (possibly someone that was his best friend from high school or s/t
considering his field of work there could be plenty of connections made involving that !! whether it be that he deals with your char all the time because they’re always getting in trouble, or helped your char at one point in time w something?? IDK anything !!
bros
um if anybody has a bartender job he could know them through his dad’s bar or w/e ?? could also just know him whenever they stop through his dad’s bar and he’s always there either serving them or hanging out w them.. you know, stuff.
bad influence !!
even cousins ?? idc
m/f brotp ( love !!! )
maybe a messy girl who’s just loads of trouble but he can’t help himself from caring for her and sometimes would bend the law in order to keep her out of scrutiny.
ok i’m done typing shit in here, hmu if you wanna plot :~)
