Pssst 👀 Wanna see my latest characters? I’ve got a good selection if I do say so myself.
All incoming artwork was done by the wonderful and extremely talented @haematicartwork! Seriously, go take a look at their blog and shoot them a commission request if you’re in the market for character art 😁

This is Fen! She’s a water genasi rogue (wildcard archetype) and has now multiclassed into one level of cleric to an amalgamation deity (it changes based on which gods hate her/like her each morning). Be sure to say hello if you see her when The Grimm Brothers’ Spectacle of Mystery and Wonder comes into town… though I can’t advise sitting at the same poker table as her 😋
Tumblr media
My precious Zeph! A former air genasi, he’s an artificer and gunslinger, but first and foremost is a scientist. It’s not that crazy to test your own alchemical concoctions on yourself, right? Sure some fail and turn you into a life-energy-consuming dhampir, but that’s just a risk worth taking in the name of research. Hmmm maybe more studies on the side effects are required actually 🤔 I wonder if Aski Innovations has any grants available?
Tumblr media
Last, but certainly not least, is the storm sorcerer Eira. A changeling currently presenting as a half-tiefling/half-orc, they’re working on a skyship as a pirate. They’ve made it their life’s mission to destroy the Bloc Corporation, purveyors of the sky-cities’ most fucked up flesh monsters. Though if the captain doesn’t start taking more serious action to combat them, Eira and her allies may have to take action into their own hands… even if that means taking out the captain herself.

Player’s Guide to New Capenna - Availalble for free download here!
Welcome to never-sleeping, art-deco streets of New Capenna, adventurer. There’s plenty that needs doing by someone with your skills, so long as you know how to avoid falling afoul of the families.
New Capenna has quickly become my favourite plane WotC has created since Theros, and seeing as there’s no RPG material for it, I spent this week creating a 5e player’s guide to the setting (while listening to the awesome soundtrack that was commissioned for it on loop)!
The Player’s Guide to New Capenna includes 17 pages of content:
An introduction to the setting for player characters
Halo, the resource the city runs on
Races unique to New Capenna: Cephalids, Raccoonfolk, and Rhox
A guide to the technology and equipment that appears in New Capenna - don’t expect to be carrying around a crossbow or wearing chainmail.
A guide to how each class can fit into the setting, such as: - Construction worker barbarians of the Riveteers - Socialite bards of the Cabaretti - Paladin bruisers of the Brokers - Assassin rogues of the Maestros - Divination wizards of the Obscura -Non family-affiliated gumshoe rangers
Backgrounds for each of the five families: Brokers, Obscura, Maestros, Riveteers and Cabaretti, complete with background, features, spells, tables, and contacts in the other families.
Rules for New Capenna’s vehicles - everything you need for a halo-powered car chase!
This PDF is intended to be something of a living document - one which can be improved and expanded with feedback and use in-game, so please let me know how it’s worked for you in-game, and keep an eye open for updates!
Special thanks to @stickyhunter and @beardburritoid for being a massive help in creating this project!
This PDF is available for free, but if you like my content and want to support me producing more pieces like this, you can support me directly through Kofi or by sending tips through tumblr right here.
Alternatively, if you want to check out my premium published content you can find my library of published adventures and expansions on Dungeon Master’s Guild - if you’re a fan of Theros or Ravnica there’s a lot that might be to your liking, with another big Theros project coming very soon!

20 “Totally Not Weird” Things To Say To Your Players...
As far as your character can tell, there is nothing unnatural about it.
The trap appears to be disarmed.
Do you touch it, or are you just looking?
Who goes first?
From what you can see…
This room does not appear to contain anything.
There’s no visible effect.
You don’t seem to spot any traps in the immediate vicinity.
As far as you would know…
You feel fine.
Can I see your character sheet a second?
Can you describe in a little more detail how you do that?
What order are you walking in?
It doesn’t seem to do anything.
Are you sure about that?
You can certainly try!
How close do you want to get to it?
By the way, where exactly are you all standing?
Before you fall asleep…
I need to borrow a few more dice for a while.

1d6 plotlines for amnesiac PCs
They had their memories wiped by an ancient blue dragon who wanted to keep a secret they had discovered. Perhaps a hoard of treasure, the location of draconic mating/nesting grounds, or a personal flaw that the dragon is terribly embarrassed about and a puny humanoid’s memories are a small price to pay to keep their dignity intact.
They were a necromancer, and transferred their consciousness into a Clone; unfortunately, there was an error in the runes and their memories were lost in the transfer. The necromancer’s lair could even be a future dungeon–the horror of seeing other experimental clones of yourself can be quite fun to spring on an unsuspecting character.
They are an automaton designed as a companion for an artificer that gained sentience and deleted their memories of the artificer. Whether this was out of grief when the artificer passed, resentment toward their creator for the way they are treated, or another reason is up to you.
They were killed and resurrected, but the time they spent dead led to some irreversible cell death, causing retrograde amnesia. As far as their loved ones know, they are still buried in the ground.
They spent their forgotten years possessed by a demon, and when the demon was exorcised they had no memory of that time. Fiends always react oddly to them, and they register on alignment-sensing abilities as chaotic evil regardless of actual alignment.
They sold their memories to a witch in exchange for something, but because all their memories are gone, they don’t remember what that was (or possibly that it happened at all) so they can’t put it to use.
(steal any or all of these for your own campaign, that’s what they’re here for!)

I see your “sam and Taliesin are trickster deities” and I raise you: everyone in the CR cast is some sort of ancestral being, but they are all from different points in the timeline and different cultures and only now did they converge here.
Taliesin? Immortal Archfey who got tired of trying to fit every new version of society he’s met, so he decided to just be himself and enjoy the shenanigans it causes.
Sam? Trickster Spirit that thrives in chaos and just wants to have a giggle with humans for a few decades.
Matt? The 9th reincarnation of a Norse Storyteller, back from the dawn of time when they understood the power of words. His magic is subtle in the way he threads stories together but has an ethereal aura that pulls in whoever listens to him. He remembers his past lives vaguely and sometimes recognizes them when they take over his body to give a tale an unsuspected twist. His many lives also make him well acquaintanced with the subject of death which he usually waves into his stories.
Marisha? A Greek Demi-God warrior that has been granted eternal life by the gods and used it to keep learning new fighting styles. She’s faced minotaurs and gorgons and, yes, more than one troll. Probably the daughter of Atenea.
Laura? A Nymph, nature spirit that has taken human form. Impossible not to love her. Animals are her passion. She has a pure heart but also a terrifying amount of power to destroy anyone who crosses her or those she loves.
Travis? The reincarnation of a Roman Centurion. Favors logic and reason over brawn but is also 200% ready for a fight. His patron, Juno, granted him immortality not due to his bravery but after an act of kindness and selflessness. He remembers his past life and likes being coy about it.
Ashley? Viking warrior. Probably a Valkyrie. She came to Earth to be an actress as an act of reverence to Loki, who has always favored her because of her slightly chaotic trickster side.
Liam? Another nature spirit, much like his soul twin. The calm and quiet side of the woods, the soothing hum of the ocean, sometimes thunder and lighting. He loves humanity with all of his heart but is more often than not exasperated by their ignorance or hateful tendencies.
Brian? An Immortal but like only ever since the 20s or so. Still trying to figure out the whole thing. Tal is helping him. Probably a ridiculously powerful magic user in disguise.
Also, none of them know for sure that the others have a divine side to them. As far as they are concerned, they’ve just picked their favorite humans to goof around with for a while, but they all have that kind of unearthly energy that’s made them drift together. If they all combined their powers they’d be unstoppable, but so far they are just happy chilling and playing D&D together.

Path of the Himbo
This barbarian subclass is exactly what you think it is. For the beautiful but dull characters we sometimes oft to pay.
Barbarian
Path of the Himbo
The path of the himbo is unbeknownst to many, but they are somewhere. Maybe. Where?
Dumb but Charming
When you reach 3rd level, you have disadvantage on all Intelligence checks and saving throws. Conversely, you have advantage on all Charisma checks and saving throws.
Hard to Marr
When you pick this path at 3rd level, your sheer idiocy can help turn the sympathetic to your side. As an action, you can plead with a creature that can see and hear you within 30 feet. They must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you for a duration of 1 minute. A creature charmed by this feature considers you a close but dumb friend, and will assist you in matters befitting.
Explosive Undressing
By the time you reach 6th level, you’ve learned to flex with such force that your clothes (and other items of your choice) are propelled off your body with explosive might. As an action on your turn, you force all creatures within 30 feet of you to make a Dexterity saving throw. Upon a failure, a creature takes 5d6 force damage and is knocked back a number of feet equal to half your Strength score. Creatures that succed on the saving throw take half and are not knocked back.
Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest when you have reclothed yourself.
Please Don’t Hurt Me
Your charming personality has made it difficult for enemies to attack when you are hurt. When you are below half your hit point maximum, creatures that attack you must suceed on a Wisdom saving throw or suffer disadvantage on the attack roll. A creature that succeeds on this saving throw is immune to this effect 24 hours.
Huh?
When you reach 14th level, the extent of your himbo has led you to become completely immune to any effects regarding your intelligence. Regardless of your Intelligence score, your Intelligence is considered to be 3 or lower for any spells targeted at you. You gain immunity to psychic damage and are immune to charmed and frightened condition.

It's fun to see this kind if breakdown, even if there's not much surprising here (other than maybe how drastically preeminent human fighters are when they are such a good race for literally any class).
Obviously I get why certain pairings are more common - I'm currently playing a dwarf fighter for Moradin's sake - but I find characters that play against type really compelling, and I've thought of ideas for quite a few. I think I'll start sharing some of those concepts here, since there's basically no way I'll ever get to play them all myself.

Bard opened up a powerful cult leader’s grimoire in front of a bunch of temple acolytes because they wouldn’t let him see the high priest. Then not 20 minutes later (in-game time) the sorcerer accidentally summons a barbed devil using a card that she got from a sketchy shopkeeper in the high priest’s personal chambers 🤦🏻‍♀️ needless to say they had to quickly run and can’t ever go back to that capital city.
