(dracula spoilers) three speculations on why we haven't heard from our friend Jonathan while he's toiling in the toils: 1. Jonathan isn't writing because he's afraid of getting caught and losing the diary -in this terrible place where he's doubting his senses, being able to write what he sees and feels is priceless. It's not worth the risk to lose that most precious record.

2. Jonathan isn't writing. In the eye of despair, there's nothing he has to say.
