metacrisis dave: 2017
2009-2011 2012-2013 2014 2015: January 2015: February/March 2015: Winter 2016
The Times Magazine interview, feb 11th:
Now 45, he’s well turned out in a jazzy jersey, which he pats down as if being frisked when I ask where it’s from. (He lets me check the label eventually and says, “Ah, Jaeger! It’ll be a Christmas present from Sandra, my mother-in-law, then.”) At the other end is a pair of suede Chelsea boots with startling neon yellow gussets, which his 32-year-old wife – the actress and producer Georgia Moffett – bought him from Penelope Chilvers.
And, of course, he met his wife on set (she was playing his daughter). Is it weird that he married the daughter of a previous Doctor? “It’s bizarre, bizarre!” he says, arms flailing aloft. “When you stop to think about it, it doesn’t make any sense at all. The likelihood of it is so remote – especially as I grew up in Paisley and our worlds were so far apart. And yet here we are.”
“Doctor Who is inescapable in our house. It runs through our house as if through the middle of a stick of rock. Our life has a Doctor Who backbone.”
The couple have four children – Ty, 14 (whom he adopted), Olive, 6, Wilfred, 4, and Doris, 1. I try to imagine him at home, reading bedtime stories. Does he do the accents? “Of course!” When the kids aren’t impressed, “I entertain myself,” he says.
“Kids will choose when to be impressed. The minute you think, they’ll love this, they couldn’t care less. And then some weird little thing you did that you haven’t even thought about they’ll think is the coolest thing you’ve ever done.”

Conversation
DT & Marvel Podcast April 2016
Interviewer: So what did your children think when they knew you were cast in a Marvel production?
David Tennant: Well, the little ones were too - you know, I'm certainly not showing them Jessica Jones for a few years. But no, I think my fourteen year old was quite pleased. We - there's an ongoing Marvel vs DC comics conversation that happens in our house though, so...he tends to, er, he quite likes winding me up by taking the opposing side!
Interviewer: Wow!
DT: But he's still a big Deadpool fan so I know he's making it up.
Interviewer: In his heart of hearts, I think he'll come around
DT: Yeah, he's - totally around! He just likes winding me up!

Well, I daren’t admit it [how old Ty is], because if I admit that he’s seen the film, well, he probably shouldn’t have. Um…Ty’s fourteen, and I don’t know if he’s seen the film, is that the right thing to say? But also there’s a wit there, that I highly applaud, so I think that’s, er, I think that’s all right, I think he’ll be okay.

RIP The Very Reverend Alexander(Sandy) McDonald/David Tennant’s Dad- Who just last year gave this little speech during the Special Recognition Award at the NTA’s about how wonderful David Tennant is to the world. And how much David makes it a much better place to live in; which is absolutely true. My hearts go out to David and to all the ones he loves during this time of need in his life. I am mourning the loss of this great man today with him; a man who supported, loved, and helped raised David Tennant…the man we all love and know today.

Celebrating David Tennant’s father, the Very Rev Dr Alexander (Sandy) McDonald
David and his dad have appeared together on television (and on DVD special features) many times:
Ready, Steady, Cook (2005)
David’s Doctor Who video diary for Season 2
David’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are (2006)
A cut scene from The Runaway Bride (running past David’s parents & nieces - he playfully gives Julie Gardner grief on the commentary track for cutting the scene that featured his family)
When David won the Spirit of Scotland award but couldn’t attend the ceremony (due to Doctor Who filming), he sent a video message and his dad picked up the award in-person (2007)
Doctor Who episode The Unicorn and the Wasp
Doctor Who Confidential for The Unicorn and the Wasp (Nemesis)
The National Television Awards (2015)

He rang up and said will you come to the theatre. She thought that he was just trying to educate her in the ways of the theatre, because she hasn’t really done much theatre. And I said I’m sure there’s more to it. She said ‘no no no, he just…wants me to see Shakespeare all the time!’

Audio
Big Finish - Doctor Who - Sixth Doctor - City of Spires - Bonus Content
Georgia Tennant talks about playing the character of Alice in this audio adventure. She (and Colin) also discuss growing up as a Doctor’s daughter, alongside other Doctors’ daughters, and then subsequently playing the Doctor’s daughter in the tv show.
I did ‘The Doctor’s Daughter’, which was just brilliant. I mean, I couldn’t have asked for a better part, or a better Doctor. It’s opened up so many doors for me, and gotten me into this Doctor Who world.

do you know the rough timeline of david and georgia's relationship? like did they meet on dw and start dating pretty soon after or was it like they met on dw and then reconnected and started dating?
aha well that’s the question. evidence dictates that they didn’t get together straight away, but man, those brief glimpses we get of them on set in the doctor who confidential of that ep show there was def an immediate…….affection of some kind.
anyway here’s a timeline to the best of my knowledge:
dt & sophia myles broke up sometime around october 2007
the doctor’s daughter was filmed december 2007-january 2008
rumours circulated during the first few months of 2008 that dt had been dating a woman called bethan who worked for the bbc. ~‘sources’~ vary on when this r/ship began and ended. roughly november 2007 - february 2008
peter davison has said that david and georgia didn’t get together straight away, and kept going to the theatre together for months, and while peter knew what was up (aka david tennant wanted to get it on with his daughter) georgia was apparently oblivious, all ‘he just likes to educate me about shakespeare, dad!!’ mmhmmmmmm sure he does
peter davison also says that when they turned up together to watch peter in Spamalot, which he was in until March 2008, that it was obvious they were dating. whether they actually were at this point is unconfirmed
regardless, by april 2008, dt is obvs head over heels for georgia as in his commentary podcast for the doctor’s daughter, recorded that month iirc, to be released online to coincide with the upcoming airing of the ep, he goes on and on and on about her and how beautiful she is. it’s magical
i’m not aware of when exactly georgia recorded her commentary for the doctor’s daughter (for the dvd boxset). she makes a reference to not having seen the end section of the ep yet, as her copy kept stuttering or something. so that makes me think it was, like david’s one, prior to the ep airing on telly. but anyway, she’s pretty clearly head over heels for him right back
the doctor’s daughter aired 10th may 2008
for years, david tennant has been going around wearing this barcode t-shirt with the date 12.05.08 lovingly commemorated on it
this leads me to the conclusion that this date was perhaps when they became ~official. or their first proper date. or. you know, a first of another kind
that it’s two days after the ep aired slays me lmao, i just imagine them sitting down together to watch it and then like, inching closer on the sofa. ‘ha, we um. we’re good actors aren’t we? isn’t that believable? that we’re father and daughter?’/’i suppose…..but. um. you don’t see me like that really, right?’/’oh god no!’
newspaper reports first got wind of them seeing each other around the end of may & june 2008, with pics of them coming out of each other’s houses etc
by august 2008 they were seen out and about together at plays and various events, holding hands and looking loved up

David is the best Doctor I’ve worked with. He’s so positive, even at five in the morning. But I did tease him a lot, especially when we were out in public. I was like, ‘Why are you wearing a hat? Isn’t that going to draw attention to yourself?’

They haven’t yet announced her name, so it’s not my place to reveal it. They live near me in west London so I see them all the time. I recently saw David as Richard II and he was magnificent. He’s heaven in Shakespeare because he makes it accessible. When he speaks the lines it’s just like normal language. He’s a great bad guy in Jessica Jones on Netflix too. But in real life he’s the sweetest, kindest man you could ever meet.
