do you think that a certain genre of queer person is so obsessively weird about pride flag discourse becuase their flags fill the gaping hole in their personality where a hogwarts house used to be

no animal was harmed during the making of this video. not one. for the few minutes that we were shooting film, the guns of each hunter fell silent. the industrial bolt throwers observed a moment's peace and the jaws of every predator hung softly open. no fish bit any hook and the bait worms held off on drowning only until the cameras stopped. the tails of ruminants ceased to flick just as their attendant flies, in unison, landed on their flanks to catch their tiny breaths. a spider instantly stopped winding silk around a wasp, patiently waiting for the caesura to end. a young veterinarian paused with the syringe in their hand. somewhere, a colicky baby stopped biting its mother's nipple and nursed happily for the very first time. we're sorry. we're sorry it couldn't have been longer. we didn't know this would happen.

I have a short story to tell here that you all might enjoy. Starship the newest rocket that is being developed in Boca Chica State Park Starbase, TX. You might have heard of it.
Since 2019 Space Exploration Industries has been launching prototypes to test the latest developments in Big Rockets. Ideally they could launch 10-200 times as much mass as their rocket that works (depending on things that don't matter here) so this would be a Big Deal in space science. It's such a big deal that the (current June 2025) plan to land The First Woman And The Next Man Americans on the moon by 2030 requires this rocket. 20 of them to be precise. Each time they land on the moon. This is also the rocket planned to eventually build Musk's Mars Manor and has been recommended for Mars sample return (an actually important mission)
The other thing that matters to this rocket is reusability. They must be able to land the 1st stage and the upper stage to make money. Their other rocket has a reusable 1st stage but not 2nd stage and has made a name for itself by landing and reusing the boosters.
The first starship prototypes were little more than large steel tanks with rocket engines on them that largely lifted off the pad and promptly exploded. But no matter! Because the spaceX motto is "waste steel not time" meaning they can explode as much steel as they want if they achieve a learning objective. And explode they did! None of the 6 pre-rocket test articles that launched landed without exploding. It became popular among certain corners of the internet to watch videos of these events, some of which were streamed by SpaceX and some were filmed by the group of journalists who make a living hanging out juuust outside the gates of starbase to film such things.
But then the FAA said they had to address 75 items before they could launch again. (presumably some of those were Stop Violating Launch Licenses)
During this time starship engineers managed to do design work without having a tank to explode and after almost two years with only one non-launch explosion, they launched a whole rocket. It exploded 3 minutes into flight. But that's ok because we're so back baby!
At this point, launches are trying to achieve a goal of almost 1 orbit because they are using a whole rocket. for the first rocket, they decide they can't wait more than the 2 years they have waited so far, so even though the flame diverter is not done, they launch and destroy their launch pad. The internet laughs. Spacex takes most of a year to rebuild.
After losing four rockets (2 explosions, 1 loss of communication, 1 sea landing) they build a tower that is supposed to grab the 1st stage out of the air. And it works! So the everyone who wants the US to land on the moon is thrilled! Maybe now they will put satellites in the next test!
but then they launch one that explodes but not until it is over the Turks and Caicos Islands. and then next one explodes between Jamaica and the Turks and Caicos Islands. And then the next one was destroyed upon reentry. Oops
Just last week (June 18th) as they were preparing for their next flight, the rocket exploded on the pad. This isn't testing a new part in their rocket. They haven't got to test a new thing for 3 flights now. This is routine propellent loading and it exploded their rocket. Just a reminder this is how we are supposed to get people to the moon by 2030 :)
#space#starship#aAAAAAAAa#why are we relying on this thing#why are we letting them get away with this

One more joke hate: You may claim to be a woman but biologically you are a featherless biped and thus a man.
Finally a good argument for why I'm actually a man

Writes an AO3 fic tagged Hockey RPF but its about what if my kid's travel team beat the kids from three hours away that keep winning just because someone birthed a 6' monster of a kid and set him on skates right out of the womb.

I think I should add that the reason they decided to skip all testing in because the goal of the mission was to visit a near earth asteroid but to get there they had to get out past the moon A huge part of the cost of a spacecraft is the launch so to save on launch costs, they shared a ride with the IM-2 lunar CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Sevices) mission. (IM-2 and CLPS is another problem too). Since they had paid for this launch, they had to make this launch I guess but I will point out that in CLPS missions alone they had at least two more opportunities this year and there are four planned for 2026 currently
The issues they had were ground station problems which since every other mission can successfully contact earth means their pointing program wasn't working. They knew they had software issues and had hoped they could launch and push an update immediately afterwards but the problem being their fucking POINTING SYSTEM means they couldn't do that.

the number of spacecraft failures recently has been absolutely insane and it all comes down to tech bros barging into the industry going "it's not that hard wtf is nasa so bad" and then completely skipping out on any testing
