Sneak peek of the buddie romcom fic I’m writing except it’s literally the first scene and it’s just Buck being in his feelings about Love and Love’s hatred for him. Forgive him, he just broke up with his girlfriend and he doesn’t know he’s in love with his bestie yet<3 bless him.

Everyone saw it and despite the fact they all seemed to like her, all insisted that she great, deep down Buck always knew they never had much faith in a long-term relationship between Natalia and him.

The thing is, Buck has never been lucky in love. Surprise, surprise. He shouldn’t be fucking surprised. He’s known for ages after all. He’s got loads of people to prove it. Abby, Ali, Taylor, Julie in high school, Bree in Virginia, Luciana in Peru, the countless people in LA. Evan Buckley isn’t lucky in love.

He should have known that not even the direct hit of lightning against his body would change that. He should have known after their disastrous dinner at the loft, after Natalia had left for the first time, after the first awkward silence between them when neither of them could find a way to start a conversation about anything that wasn’t—

Buck sighs. There’s no use dwelling on it now. It’s done. It’s over. Buck, Natalia and ‘this’, whatever this was. And he’s fine. And he will be moving on very soon. To what, he’s not sure yet, but soon. He’s sure she will too.

Thinking about Evan who never really knew who he was. Thinking about Evan who tried everything and kept going in circles, who kept driving to places without knowing why. Thinking of Evan who would wake up and take off somewhere because “maybe I could do this?”. Thinking of Evan who would go to bed, disappointed and disoriented because “that can’t be it.” Thinking of Evan who lost and was lost, of Evan who didn’t know.

Thinking of Buck who still doesn’t know everything about himself. About Buck who’s unsure of what tomorrow will be like. Of Buck who had to search and search and search until finally it made sense. Maybe not all of it. But this, firefighting, that made sense. Thinking of Buck and firefighting being the thing he knows. And how ironic is that? That something as unpredictable as firefighting is the one thing he’s never been more certain of.

Being a Buddie fan is wanting Buck and Eddie to realise how much they love each other. It’s wanting them to realise that everything they’ve been looking for has always been right in front of them this whole time. It’s wanting them to look each other with those soft eyes full of love, to hear them say I choose you, always. I chose you before and I will choose you again and again because I love you, flaws and all. I love you and I want to hold you and be your home.

It’s also wanting those two to make out on screen and confirming the fact that they fuck nasty <3
