Here’s what I spent all night doing!!!!!!! A map of Coerthas and Dravania, specifically with an eye to reconciling the world maps and zone maps (and 1.0 with 2.0+) in a way that emphasizes information important to me as a roleplayer, like overland routes and rivers.

Was it worth it? … Probably not. I mean, I did want to draw my own map for Greening Coerthas purposes but I should have just drawn a messy blobmap instead of trying to do this.

BEHOLD: a 118-page compilation of (almost) every scrap of lore about Ishgard I could find – its social organization, history, religious beliefs, and culture.

Every piece of lore is sourced with a footnote in order to make it easy to look up – and to tell canon from my informed inferences and wild speculations. This makes the doc a little heavy and slow to load; my apologies! To look up a topic of interest, I recommend giving it a second to load, then using Ctrl+F to search.

Don’t feel shy about getting in touch with comments and corrections! If you have a question about Ishgard that isn’t answered in the doc…… I probably don’t know the answer, since I’ve put everything I know in there, but I’m always happy to theorize!

Teleportation magic in FFXIV is actually the craziest thing

like, it's established so early on you don't have to think about it, and I expect the writers also didn't think too hard about it when they were first putting together the worldbuilding. but we teleport through the Lifestream. we dip in and out of the afterlife every time we go anywhere long-distance. and this is such a normal part of everyday life that major settlements basically all have giant crystals in the middle that are meant to facilitate this kind of travel.

and to be absolutely fair, in a world where the afterlife really was a place underground, we totally would build a subway system through it and put Hades in charge. it's not like it doesn't make sense, it's just. wild.

Coffer and Coffin This shot is very special to me. It wouldn't be possible without my friends (shout out to Nim, Veata and Ash. Especially Nim, who suffered high blood pressure to teach a derp like me). These two OCs share so much history together. I wanted a picture like this with Lucas (@lucasrajan an awesome RP buddy and friend) for years! But I didn't have the know how, much less the skills. My friends held my hand, and finally I did it!

Log of process: > Get an alt to lvl50 and Second Lieutenant within the Grand Company (so I can buy an FC room lol. Thanks for suffering with me and suffering me Nim!). > Make the set for the shoot. > Pose Lucas (I know I can get premade poses but ya girl stubbornly did it from scratch) and save it. > Realised SE has poor taste in manicures and had to get Lucas a proper one (thanks Vee!) > Figure out how to use a Carby for Lucas (thanks Vee!). > Realised the dang chair is positioned poorly and didn't catch the proper lighting from the window. It took several attempts of adjusting the chair and window, and dressing myself up as Lucas to test sit til I got it right. > Somehow I broke the game. I ripped out the lawn decor of some poor sod and they became an island in the sky with me stuck in it. When I tried teleporting to fix it, I turned into a powerful magnet and sucked everyone around into me and I became a mass of character pretzel. > Get back into posing. Realised something was screwed, get out of Gpose, get back in, rinse and repeat for 478628230 times. Touch (almost) every checkbox in Gshade. A lot of rinse and repeats here until I was decently satisfied. > By the time I was done, I was cross-eyed and needed another's opinion on the lighting and effects that I chose (thanks Ash!).

The FFXIV script is updated through the end of 5.0!

So far I've got the entirety of MSQ up to the start of the Shadowbringers patch quests, the Crystal Tower raids, the archer and bard quests, seasonal events from the past few months, and the first few snippets of optional dialogue (I'm trying to focus on catching up first, but I couldn't not include Emet-Selch's occasional optional lore drops).

I'm also still tinkering with little layout and feature things as I go — I just added sticky headers so you can tell where you are in the middle of the script. :D

i learned of “Box beds” – cabinets with beds in them and, sometimes, lockable doors – were used for privacy and safety in parts of rural medieval Europe before individual bedrooms were common. They became fashionable even in homes with bedrooms and remained in use in Scotland into the 1900s (x)

i have a few resources i look to consistently but i'm gonna plug anatomy for sculptors as One Of The Most Useful. great if you're a 3D artist, INVALUABLE if you're a 2D artist. gives you turnarounds of specific limbs/fiddly body parts like ears. great especially if you're referencing a photo and start looking at an individual part like 'wait, what the hell is going on in there'
