update #7 - april 27, 2024
iʻm done! i finished up the last phase of my study on pattern and texture yesterday so iʻm officially done with my capstone project! because of the time crunch, i definitely didnʻt get to sketch and experiment as much with pattern and texture as i would have liked to, but at least i have a solid place to start that now. that goes for all the elements i studied, honestly. iʻll talk more about this in a formal final reflection post after this one, but i think the biggest thing i realized was just how much there is to learn about these elements and how many different ways they can be and have been utilized in art over the years.
this project has been such a joy to work on, and even though i had a lot of hiccups and hurdles along the way (like balancing work, my other classes, and general creative blocks with this project, iʻm genuinely happy with what i was able to produce because i know i put a lot of passion into my work.
thank you for following me on this journey! and congratulations to all my classmates as well! we made it through!!

update #6 - april 21, 2024
since my last little update i've been feeling pretty productive! the task list i made has been really helpful for keeping me on track with everything going on.
i have a few posts almost ready for publishing, hoping to get those out by tomorrow! i still have the last set of elements to study but with the time crunch i don't think i'll be able to spend as much time on them as i would have hoped, but its okay!
the stress of all the last-minute things that need to get done have definitely been getting to me lately, i've been feeling ever so slightly under the weather so i'm trying to stay on top of my health and take breaks when i need them. but its been so hard when so much still needs to get done!
wish me luck on this last week!

update #5 - april 11, 2024
just wanted to pop on here for a quick update! i finished my study on form & space this week, all my posts for those elements are up on my instagram (@/elmnts.of.art) now! i'm also trying not to let myself get too psyched out looking at the calendar seeing that we basically have a little over two weeks left before the semester is over. i actually decided to write down all my tasks for school, work, and my personal life and that's made everything a little easier to visualize. i'm hoping to get my studies on value & color done by early next week so i have a good amount of time to finish out the last elements of my project! it's been interesting seeing not just how my technical skills in art have changed but also my mindset and approach to the creative process. i talked about it briefly in my recent post on IG but i plan on saving my full thoughts for a final reflections post to wrap up my project at the end of the month!

update #4 - april 1, 2024
1. Whatʻs been happening over the past 2 weeks?
it's definitely been more than two weeks since my last update but work on this project has been slowly coming along. i've really just been struggling to play catch up with everything lately and i feel like i'm so close to being caught up on everything! i underestimated how much creative energy this project, in addition to all my other classes, would take out of me when i started it so i've had to pivot a little and shift my schedule around to accommodate for lost time.
2. Whatʻs coming up for the next 2 weeks?
this week, i'll be finishing up my study on the elements of form & space, then starting my research on value & color! next week, i am going to try and accelerate through my work on value & color so i can hopefully be caught up by the end of the semester.
3. Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA moments
i had to take on a lot more work in my personal life over spring break so i couldn't dedicate as much of that time to catching up on this project as i had hoped. on a positive note though, at this point in the project, i feel like i've developed enough of a process for each stage of my study that i have a good idea of what needs to get done!
4. Any deliverable drafts to share?
below is a screenshot of my drafts for two upcoming posts! having a whole document that i can use to plan out the content of my instagram posts and compile everything has been really helpful in keeping myself organized.
5. Visual documentation of the progress. (Please upload screenshots, WIP videos, etc.)
Tumblr media
6. Where you are on your timeline?
on my initial timeline, i believe i'm around a week and a half or so behind schedule. i think i've made a lot of good progress recently though so i'm optimistic about catching up and finishing this project on time. i also think the pressure of the end deadline coming up is going to incentivize me to get all my work done so i'm trying my best to alleviate future stress right now.

update #3 - march 07, 2024
1. Whatʻs been happening over the past 2 weeks?
since my last update, i finished my point & line study and am now starting the next section of my project where i’ll be studying the element of shape! i’ve also been really busy with my other classes and work though, so this project unfortunately took a backseat to those assignments.
2. Whatʻs coming up for the next 2 weeks?
over the next few weeks, i’ll be shifting into high gear and catching up on this project so i can get back on track with my initial schedule. i plan on getting my shape studies done and starting work on the next elements during spring break
3. Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA moments
the biggest hurdle so far has been managing not just my time but also my energy. i feel like i’m really pushing my creative abilities by working on this project even when i don’t feel inspired to. pushing through the feeling of artistic/creative block has always been something i struggled with so i’m actually happy that this project is forcing me to confront it and work through it anyways. i’m hoping that i’ll gain some momentum soon but not strain myself so much that i’ll burn out before the end of the semester.
4. Any deliverable drafts to share?
below are a few of the sketches i did for my point & line study, which i ended up using to inform my final recap piece which is soon to be posted on my instagram. i also included a picture of an excerpt of my notes on the element of shape! i’m hoping to get a post on that up by next week.
5. Visual documentation of the progress. (Please upload screenshots, WIP videos, etc.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Where you are on your timeline?
i’m about two weeks behind my initial content schedule but i’m feeling optimistic about catching up now that i have a better grasp on the process. i’m heading into phase 2/5 of my self-study but i hope to start phase 3 really soon.

update #2 - february 12, 2024
1. Whatʻs been happening over the past 2 weeks?
over the past 2 weeks, i refined my workback plan and worked on a lot of my pre-production tasks! i had to shift the guidelines for my study slightly after having a discussion with sharla but she really helped me tie up a lot of loose ends and make sure my study process was organic. i created some post templates that i can use throughout the campaign to ensure that my branding stays consistent and i also launched my first post on the IG account!
2. Whatʻs coming up for the next 2 weeks?
in the next two weeks, i’ll be entering the production phase and starting the actual study! i’m excited to finally go out and apply some of the research i’ve done on the elements and learn more about them through sketches and analyses of famous artists/artwork.
3. Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA moments
having to make a few adjustments to my project’s guidelines took a little more time than i thought it would but i think it was worth it because i now have a clearer idea of how the project will go. i’ve also been a little swamped with work for my job lately so i’m trying my best to manage my time and energy! i can already see that being a potential hurdle during the production process especially since i’m on such a tight timeline, but i’m trying to mentally prepare myself for it all now!
4. Any deliverable drafts to share?
below are the slides for my project introduction post which i think turned out really nice! i’m happy with the overall aesthetic i was able to create and i hope to carry that through the rest of the posts.
5. Visual documentation of the progress. (Please upload screenshots, WIP videos, etc.)

6. Where you are on your timeline?
so far, i’m still on track with my timeline and i’m entering the production phase this coming week so look out for all my initial posts on the IG account!

update #1 - january 23, 2024
1. whatʻs been happening over the past 2 weeks?
over the past two weeks, i’ve been developing my workback plan and solidifying most of the details for my project. things like determining what kind of content to post, when to post, what kind of research i’ll need to conduct before starting the self-study, and gathering inspiration for a consistent brand style. i also caught a slight cold during this time so it made it a little difficult to focus on this project but i’m feeling a lot better now!
2. whatʻs coming up for the next 2 weeks?
in the next two weeks, i plan on getting a majority of my research on the different elements of art done so i can start the actual practice studies soon after. i also want to create templates for some of my posts so i don’t have to make completely new graphics for each post and so a consistent branded style can be carried throughout the whole campaign.
3. hiccups/hurdles/AHA moments
getting sick was definitely not part of the plan so that was a bit of a hiccup, but i also had an ‘aha’ moment! for a while now, i’ve been struggling to come up with a good way to measure the success of my project besides just seeing ‘improvement’ in my own art. i was also having a hard time thinking of how to engage with my audience on instagram besides the general social media engagement stats (likes, comments, views, etc). i realized that i could solve both problems by creating polls to ask my audience how accurate my depiction of a subject is when utilizing different elements of art. this way, i can test how effectively i’m using each element to portray a specific subject and meaningfully engage with my audience too. there are still a few details i need to smooth out, but i’m starting to see the big picture form!
4. any deliverable drafts to share?
unfortunately, i don’t have any deliverable drafts to share since everything is still very much in the pre-production phase, but i do have a few screenshots of my workback plan! see below.
5. visual documentation of the progress. (please upload screenshots, WIP videos, etc.)
the first picture is my general overview/timeline of my project and the second picture lays out all the assets i believe i’ll need to post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. where you are on your timeline?
i’m finished with the majority of my workback plan and i’ve set up my social media accounts so now i’m getting into the research part of my timeline! excited to finally dive into the meat of my project and then get to drawing!
