This post isn't about anything recent or specific but It is genuinely so upsetting to me how it is so normal for this fandom to treat Ruby's manipulation, rape, and coercion of Sam as Sam betraying Dean. btw.
#tw rape#tw victim blaming#I've been saying this#its kind of on the showrunners too for always tackling heavy subjects and treating them casually or like jokes#the narrative itself blames sam somewhat#its really weird#hey i could fix this show

Problem #1 regarding child abuse is that a lot of people seem to struggle to imagine normal, respectable-looking parents and other authority figures ever doing it despite the statistics so instead they do the stranger danger panic and completely overlook some of the greatest threats.
Problem #2 is that even when people understand, even if in an abstract way, that parents can be abusive they just... don't seem to actually register that as something that can apply to real life. It's just hypothetical to them and doesn't actually guide their ideas of how to prevent child abuse.
Problem #3 is that even after overcoming the above biases a lot of people have a very narrow image of what abusive parenting is where they imagine like... people doing violent things basically out of sadism and without provocation. They don't seem to think it's "real" abuse if the victim did something that "justifies" punitive violence, like disobeying the parents.
In fact, most people think parents have a right to do a whole lot of awful things to their children beyond just hitting them, like violating their privacy, controlling their access to information, and deciding what/when/if they eat, among other things.

📃except I’m asking about the Louis Manoir extended universe (it’s Frankenstein related so I’m not cheating)
Everything Is Frankenstein Related If You Try Hard Enough. anywas LOUIS MANOIR!!!!!!!!!! my shitty failgirl!!!!!!!!!
it's dificult to explain the plot of forgotten man's symphony (shortened to fms), considering how very character driven is so it doesn't quite have an easily summarised plot... out of all my characters she seems to be the most normal narrative wise but definitely not the most mentally healthy LMFAO i guess it's just him ruining her own life in front of the reader and #Healing i Guess. the story is an epistolary and the first letter we see is manoir's suicide note. so.
manoir's story very much concerns the concept of identity and the lack thereof (this includes transgenderism), which extends to the other two or three main character's subplots as well (her two siblings and Some Fucking Faggot). also, the obviously negative impacts of that comes with trying so desperately to confirm to the societal norm and being what Other people want you to be even though you simply can't, chipping away bits of yourself until you can fit in through the hole carved out for the Perfect you, which cannot exist realistically. the the endless pursuit of wanting to be loved that leads yourself to changing for people who just wont care or love you for real, only for what you make them BELIEVE was you.
my friend, the second author's wordson the story message:
making it even like that so its not YOU who is loving and being loved but the dim visage of a version of you that fits the picture of what society loves; that it's not a love between individuals, it's the love for a society that cannot ever love anything because it was made to hate. and who believes that portrayal of love will not find it and forever be stuck. smth like society loves what it deems as perfect and hates the imperfect, since perfect doesn't exist it can only do the second one. and louis wanted to love perfect victor, hated his own imperfect self. but the perfect victor doesnt exists, and neither does any version of louis.
in a way louis parallels the creature, especiall what the creature is but in a metaphorical sense. a "person" thats just the stitched up pieces of other people's deemed "perfect" features that still ends up unloved and horrible. oh manoir, the girl you are <3
it's not much of a gothic story, i'm aware, and is very loosely related to the original novel as of now, but i and my friend are trying to make it more connected!! we plan to bring in ernest and walton and various other characters in the secondary part of the story as well.
also i was kind of crazy for this tbh. lou is his elder brotjer
#THIS IS SO GOOD ILY YOU ARE ALL SO CREATIVE im gonna throw up#Are lou and louis doomed siblings. Because#*snatches*#frankenstein#I have the bestest friends ever

a quick psa to anyone recently getting into greek mythology and is a victim of tumblr and/or tiktok misconceptions:
-there is no shame in being introduced to mytholgy from something like percy jackson, epic the musical or anything like that, but keep in mind that actual myths are going to be VERY different from modern retellings
-the myth of medusa you probably know (her being a victim of poseidon and being cursed by athena) isn't 100% accurate to GREEK mythology (look up ovid)
-there is no version of persephone's abduction in which persephone willingly stays with hades, that's a tumblr invention (look up homeric hymn to demeter)
-as much as i would like it, no, cerberus' name does not mean "spot" (probably a misunderstanding from this wikipedia article)
-zeus isn't the only god who does terrible things to women, your fav male god probably has done the same
-on that note, your fav greek hero has probably done some heinous shit as well
-gods are more complicated than simply being "god of [insert thing]", many titles overlap between gods and some may even change depending on where they were worshipped
-also, apollo and artemis being the gods of the sun and the moon isn't 100% accurate, their main aspects as deities originally were music and the hunt
-titans and gods aren't two wholly different concepts, titan is just the word used to decribe the generation of gods before the olympians
-hector isn't the villain some people make him out to be
-hephaestus WAS married to aphrodite. they divorced. yes, divorce was a thing in ancient greece. hephaestus' wife is aglaia
-ancient greek society didn't have the same concepts of sexuality that we have now, it's incorrect to describe virgin goddesses like artemis and athena as lesbians, BUT it's also not wholly accurate to describe them as aromantic/asexual, it's more complex than that
-you can never fully understand certain myths if you don't understand the societal context in which they were told
-myths have lots and lots of retellings, there isn't one singular "canon", but we can try to distinguish between older and newer versions and bewteen greek and roman versions
-most of what you know about sparta is probably incorrect
-reading/waching retellings is not a substitute to reading the original myths, read the iliad! read the odyssey! i know they may seem intimidating, but they're much more entertaining than you may think
greek mythology is so complex and interesting, don't go into it with preconcieved notions! try to be open to learn!
#prev tags hii im super interested in all the bible stuff too I love hearing people talk about complex (academic) subjects from an honest and#genuine pov#save for later
