the fully saturated version (better when viewed on ipad or pc) and grayscale under the cut:

#the gentle covering of lena's eyes for all the time she hid her identity#the hand just below the throat possessive; but never claiming; never a brand#lena's hand over the hand at her throat almost willing the possession and claim to be there#the hand over kara's arm clutching with desperation because please please don't go don't leave don't you leave too#<- the way prev articulated the essence#stunning stuff

current fan creation landscape is kinda like if you went to a party with a homemade cake and everyone takes a slice and silently thumbs up at you with no attempt to start a conversation except for occasionally some guy sits in the corner with a tape recorder critiquing the cake as though he was a restaurant critic and another guy is handing the cake to an uber driver like "yeah i need you to find a restaurant that makes cake like this so i can have more of it" and the only person that's talked to you in 30 minutes is a very sweet little guy who was like "hey i liked your cake" and then ran away apologizing for bothering you the moment you said thank you.

okay so confession time
I have watched exactly 2 and 3/4 supergirl episodes in my lifetime: the pilot, the super gay sc one (100th ep), and medusa (but skipping the last 10 minutes once mon el shows up)
I read my first sc fic but even knowing how to pronounce kara or lena; all I knew was that many of the korrasami people whose work I loved also loved supercorp
so I'm horny scrolling sango's twitter and then I end up clicking into a searidings fic and one thing led to another and then
I'm pole dancing into hell I mean the supercorp fandom like lil nas x in montero
all of which to say, I only really know fandom kara. not so much canon kara. and I only really see you and sides talk about her
so. if you're willing to risk your head on a pike. your thoughts?
Just to preface, I am by no means an expert on the show or the fandom. I've been a self-proclaimed lurker since I joined the fandom and then have very quietly stepped away from it while absconding with Lena Luthor
Without getting into too much detail since I think the issue can be boiled down rather simply and since you've been lucky enough to only subject yourself to a couple episodes I won't try and give you information overload. Canon Kara and Fanon Kara especially within the Supercorp fandom are so wholly disconnected from one another that it's reached a point where she's somewhat unrecognizable in a lot of interpretations you see in fics.
I think the elephant in the room in regards to canon Kara (And I believe Easter answered an ask that touched on this that summed it up well. Linked here was that she was a not so great friend. I don't think there's any getting around that. And don't get me started on her behavior during season 5. And when there's such a huge foundational defect there it's very hard to ignore.
Specifically in regards to Lena, Kara talked a very big game but never seemed to follow through. She gave what I feel is very halfhearted rebuttals to their mutual friends talking shit about Lena, swore up and down that Lena was not 'another Luthor' and when they were fighting or didn't see eye to eye, she was incredibly quick to mistrust and disparage her in a very cruel way.
Which is why I kind of understand fandom's desire to soften or change things about her. At its core I think that's what's fun about writing fic, to see your blorbos grow or change. To want to touch up or ignore aspects of canon is what makes up a lot of fics. My issue with a lot of fanon Kara is that they've stripped so much about what made her unique, that they lean so heavily into a very flanderized version that they've essentially made her unrecognizable.
I'm not trying to police people's creativity or yuck anyone's yum but I personally don't enjoy an OC masquerading as an established character. What worked with Kara and Lena within canon was the undeniable chemistry they had. To kind of fiddle with things to the point where Kara or both of them become unrecognizable, I kind of have trouble understanding what makes it a Supercorp story. Sure, they're kissing or declaring their love for one another but that Kara is Kara in name only. I suppose that sounds harsh but again, I don't have a problem with people writing her however they wish but I do find it a problem when they want their head canons to inform on canon Kara.
I think that canon Kara is flawed and interesting. There's something very fun in navigating someone so infuriatingly flawed. And unfortunately I see a trend in fandom to sand away a lot of that which I think is a shame.

Hi, I noticed your story has conflict in it, and I was wondering why you didn't just write people who are right doing everything correctly with a note saying "I enthusiastically co-sign everything in this story"? Must be some kind of mistake haha

Hello, I recently read your post about Ai and I wanted to know your opinion on this
My brother likes reading and writing, its something he always loved
But sometimes when he is tired and does not have the energy to write a new story from 0 or find a new story to read he likes to write a story prompt (short or small depending of his inspiration) and use a AI to generate a story for him to read
He never posted any of the AI stories and he always deletes them after reading
So, is it wrong to use it if no one ever knows?
I think your brother should consider what he actually likes about reading and writing, or if he actually likes them at all, because he's doing himself a huge disservice by engaging with AI-generated content.
The "wrongness" about using AI isn't that other people know you're doing it, it's about the way it absolutely flattens the human experience and art into something non-human and without soul or passion to it, the fact that it plagiarises both written and visual work that many people have put blood sweat and tears into, and perhaps most crucially, it's about its unbelievably harmful effects on the environment.
If you're "too tired" to write a story, then sorry to break it to you, but you simply do not want to write the story. I can empathise with the frustration of writer's block because I often very badly want to write but I'm busy, or I don't have any ideas, or I'm not in the right headspace, or whatever. But at the end of the day, I want to write a story because I'm a writer, and I enjoy writing. If I ask the AI to write the story for me, then I've not written the story.
So what is the point of that? Would you ask an AI to eat your favourite food for you? Would you ask it to go on holidays for you?
If you enjoy reading, what is the point of reading something that wasn't even written by a person? Stories are built of people's experiences and imaginations and emotions and all of the complexities of being human, and an AI can't recreate any of that. It's empty, it's antithetical to every part of what creating art means, and the less people engage with art, the more we lose of ourselves and our ability to build connections with one another and the world we share.
#another not-often-spoken symptom of ai as a crutch is the trend toward the contentification of everything#the reliance on ai taps into the instant gratification of content consumption:#youtube became shorts and instagram became reels and a labor of love became 15 seconds of swipable forgettable-ness.#the concept of time has been whittled away in pursuit of beating an algorithm#and the idea that creating takes time goes against the way society ingests things#and with it is this confoundingly arbitrary new way in which art is valued

“I am the punctuation mark of human frailty.
I am the writer’s block, resolved mid-sentence.
I am the OG vibe shift.
So next time you read something and think, “AI wrote this—it has a lot of em dashes,” ask yourself: Is it AI? Or is it just a poet trying to give you vertigo in four lines or less?”
THE EM DASH RESPONDS TO THE AI ALLEGATIONS

i honestly didn't really track what the ficwip game is, so i'm making up my own rules: can you share an excerpt of your wip with the lowest word count?
a fresh limp fish is all yours if you add 50 new words to it.
QUINN! thanks for the ask!!!
you will be pleased to know the hot ones au is NOT the lowest word count as it is currently sitting at 2268 words and NO ONE HAS EATEN ANY WINGS YET 🌶️🐓🔥
i do in fact have a shiny fresh new wip that i blame (credit) entirely on @lifemodeldecoy, and i would be remiss if i didn’t throw in a plug for her incredible HANAHAKI AU 🌸 Flower Dance 🌸 HERE :D
here are 195 of the current 490 words :D 🐟🥢
in blossom (currently wip only)
The sharp metallic tang in the air is stronger than Lena expected. The gunshots are still ringing in her ears alongside the echo of her brother’s voice - mockedyou humiliated you betrayed you you’llbeleftwith no one and nothing - and sometime between pulling the trigger and her brother’s last gurgling breath Lena had slid to the floor. karadanvers is supergirl She’s sitting at her brother’s feet now - the way she had sat at age four in their treehouse, the way she had sat at age seven while he was doing his homework, the way she had sometimes still sat at seventeen when she visited while he was working late (better not let mom catch you sitting on the floor in the office, ace). The way she had sat next to him after the Man of Tomorrow Award - age nineteen - the first time she had truly felt that her brother was slipping away from her. The scarlet soles of her Louboutins are stained crimson dark. Lena observes with some detachment that blood doesn’t really look like wine after all; her sleeve is wet and cold and sticky but her brother’s hand is still warm, tacky with drying blood.
very cheerful am i right!!! :D
(this week’s word game wednesday is ficwip as an ask game)
(pokes @lifemodeldecoy @eqt-95 @nostradamus0 🤓)
#this is juicy and I would (respectfully) ask for 19500 more words please#oliver twist style with hat in one hand and hopeful eyes glowing from the over-bright screen in my other hand#sides

for the ficwip, an excerpt from the wip worked on least recently
thanks for the ask!!!
so i went into scrivener, and i don’t think it’s entirely accurate simply because sometimes ficwip searches end up messing with the last modified date - buuuut the last updated project (like, least recent, bottom of the list, modified longest ago) in there is… a dead end, because the aosg au is mostly posted haphazardly on tumblr.
second last updated is countercurrent, which is the longer wip in the same universe as upstream and endpoint 🥳
countercurrent (part of the soulmates au! links: tumblr / ao3)
Alex throws her jacket over Kara’s head on national television. Nia will show her the video later, so Kara can see the way that SUPERGIRL materialises across her face while she’s earnestly talking about what an honour it is to live in National City, to help the people of Earth after losing her planet. Kara will watch with dawning horror as the letters appear across her face in Lena’s writing; it’s when IS shows up that everyone realises it’s not something fun or planned. She’ll see the moment that Alex bursts on screen - after an uneven K starts to appear on her right cheek - barking orders and demanding the camera be turned off, and the broadcast switches back to the studio shortly after. In the moment, all Kara knows is that Collette Pearson’s signature megawatt smile suddenly vanishes - and then she’s surrounded by the stifling heat of Alex’s leather jacket.
