Yes, I agree. That was what made me cry at the end was watching everyone else saying goodbye to their dragons. I had prepared myself for Hiccup and Toothless’s goodbye (though it was still sad, especially earlier in the movie when Hiccup was starting to realize they would have to part ways). I hadn’t prepared myself for everyone else saying goodbye.
Weirdly, it wasn’t Hiccup and Toothless that made me start crying at the end of HTTYD3, it was when the camera turned to Astrid and Stormfly. I think the reason is because I was prepared for Hiccup and Toothless. I knew they were going to rip my heart out, but I hadn’t realized how attached I was to Astrid and Stormfly’s relationship. It’s never center stage, but thinking back you realize how they were also developed characters, and that they’ve known each other almost as long as Hiccup and Toothless. I think it says a lot about the skill of the writers to make such a deep relationship that’s just in the background (Stormfly is honestly a glorified plot device a lot of the time, someone for Toothless to play with or get Hiccup from point A to B). A relationship you didn’t even realize you were attached to till it broke apart.
I also think part of it is because it made me realize how much bigger than just Toothless and Hiccup this was. This is an entire village having to give up their friends. Imagine if one day you just had to give up your dog, and you know it’s for the best, but you also didn’t really have any say in it, and you love your dog dammit. The vikings were willing to change their whole ways of life because of how great the bond was with the dragons. For six years they relied on them and from what we saw would do pretty much anything for them, and than in a matter of minutes they are all gone. This isn’t just a boy loosing his pet, it’s a village loosing it’s entire way of life, and everyone individually loosing a very close friend.
(Or maybe I just really love Astrid and don’t want her to be sad, that’s possible too)

I’m just gonna go... cry in the corner now...
Astrid in HTTYD1: You lost everything. Your father, your tribe, your best friend.
HTTYD2: *Hiccup loses Stoick*
HTTYD3: *Berk is under attack and Hiccup loses Toothless*
Me: *sobbing* Thank you for summing that up.

Another edit with a meaningful quote by Gobber from Httyd 1.
If there’s one thing httyd taught me, it’s that we should always embrace who we are; our flaws, our insecurities, our differences, our values; our opinions; our attributes.
Even after almost a decade, httyd 1 is still a significant part of my life. It helped me while I was in high school and it inspired me too.

Toothless is Hiccup’s best friend, y’know, not to take away from any of the humans in his life, but he just, they have a symbiotic relationship. They need each other. And despite the fact that they’re two completely different species, they have more in common with each other than they do probably with their respective species. They’re both kinda odd birds, outcasts, and they both had some work done. There’s no Hiccup without Toothless. (X)

Note
Some of the dragons looks like another animals and dinosaurs: Toothless looks like a cat or bat, Stormfly looks like a cockatoo, Cloudjumper looks like an owl...
(First of all, sorry for the super late reply! I’ve been really busy, and just now saw this. So sorry!)I think it makes sense that they have the dragons act like certain animals. Dragons were never a real creature, so it can be hard to properly animate them if you don’t know how they would act. So how do you properly animate imaginary creatures so that it doesn’t look so stiff or poorly done? You design them to sort of look and act like an animal that does exist. I like that they do that. :) It’s cool seeing some of those similarities between the imaginary animals and the real animals.

Not really an ask but after rewatching RTTE I kinda geeked out over realizing that Hiccup used Viggo’s design. And I live for how Hiccup always tries to understand his foes as well as learn from them
I love that he used Viggo’s design as well. :D A great tribute to him (and a great way to wrap in the series to the second movie). I also like your point about how Hiccup learns from his enemies. It shows how much he grows, and how he can learn from his failures and from others. Such great character development. I love it.

Do you think changewings are all red naturally or is that a color they all just choose to keep?
(Don’t know how long this has been in my askbox. Sorry if it’s been awhile.)That is an excellent question. I personally think that is their natural color, because it would be kind of weird that all of the Changewings just chose to be red. But thank you for the question !
