Vince knew that talking to her would only make his ache worse, but he couldn’t resist the temptation. Knowing she wasn’t too far from him shouldn’t have made him as curious as this. He had fought tooth and nail to forget her – giving into her meant that all that hard work would be going out the window. However, he liked the idea of messing with her head, driving her crazy, adding insult to injury from his previous remarks. But then she responded rapidly, and his brow furrowed in irritation. What did she mean that wasn’t fair?
Vince [ 2:54 a.m ]: First off, I didn’t show up anywhere – I was already there.
Vince [ 2:54 a.m ]: Yeah, yeah. Sure you do. I had a right to say my part and I did.
Vince [ 2:55 a.m ]: Feelings aren’t really your thing, remember?
He should have felt bad for attacking her as directly as he did, but he couldn’t help himself. He was fired up from seeing her again and needed to vent. Vince had to remind her that she was the one that fucked up. The blond had done everything right to keep her happy, but it wasn’t enough for her. Sure, he missed her like crazy but that wasn’t going to stop him from telling her how much he disliked her, how much she frustrated him, and now that they were in the same town at the same time, he couldn’t help but wonder what she smelled like and how she would feel wrapped up against him once more. But those were dangerous thoughts that would lead him down a dangerous path of regret if he gave into them.
an unlikely coincidence - Vince & June
examplarygentleman‌:
Walking away from June that quickly did hurt more than he expected. It tore at his heart and made him ache, thinking immediately about what could have been if he stayed. He did not expect a happy reunion, either. They didn’t exactly end on the best of terms – probably why both chose to run away far from each other instead of talking it out like mature adults. He wondered what she would have said to him, especially with her “date” nearby. Then again, June had always been a free spirit; she would have jumped at the opportunity to leave with him instead, he was sure about that.
What was supposed to be an enjoyable evening alone before getting into some debauchery turned into a binger as soon as he walked out of the restaurant. He hailed a cab and made his way to the nearest strip club that met his luxurious tastes. It didn’t take long for him to drink his way into a drunken stupor while still retaining his charm. However, there was nothing at the club that appealed to him, not when the thought of her swam around his mind insistently. It bugged him that he couldn’t get her out of his head. Not even the prettiest eyes or smile could distract him, and so he left that club alone and moved on to a nearby bar.
He could only imagine how bored she was sitting across from that shallow rich man who didn’t give two shits about her. Vince smiled to himself, reminded of how pouty June could get when she wasn’t satisfied, especially in bed after a long and dull night. She was probably disappointed tonight. At least he chose to avoid that; after their lengthy relationship, it was hard to find a woman who could keep up with him in the bedroom the way she could. He was a handful and it was rare that a woman was willing to go beyond anything vanilla, especially when he wasn’t looking for a long-term relationship. Not when June had ruined that dream for him, reminding him why he was better off alone as a handsome but lonely bachelor with no real ties to anyone.
After bouncing from bar to bar trying to find something or someone to fill the gaping hole in his heart, he decided to give up and gamble a bit before bed. He took a cab back to his hotel and then walked onto the casino floor. Thick clouds of smoke filled his nostrils as did the strong smell of alcohol – during these late-night hours, there weren’t many people who were still sober. Placing himself at a blackjack table, he ordered a drink from the pretty cocktail waitress who had spotted him and started to play. The waitress was cute enough – blond and petite with brown eyes that mimicked the certain someone he was trying to avoid. What she was doing on the floor at this ungodly time of night was beyond him, but after a few more drinks and a little flirting, it looked like he had found his catch. Until his phone went off, of course. He glanced at the message and groaned; he was expecting radio silence, nothing from her, but that just couldn’t happen, could it?
Vince [ 2:50 a.m ]: What wasn’t fair?
He replied, a mere two minutes later and the notification on her phone sent June’s heart pounding. Here she was, sitting on the floor of the bathroom, hair wet, and only able to think about one person. Just knowing they were in the same city right now put her stomach in knots. Keeping him at a distance always made things a little easier. After a moment of just staring off at that single question, planning her next move, June fired off as fast as her fingers could type:
June [ 2:51 a.m ]: You showing up like that. June [ 2:51 a.m ]: Saying those things.  June [ 2:52 a.m ]: You assume that I’m heartless, or have no feelings whatsoever. But I do.
What she didn’t specify, of course, was that the feelings were concerning him. Yes, she still had a hell of a lot of them left for him, as it turns out. Every time June thought she was well and truly over him, some reminder would hit her right in the face, a couple staring down at her from a billboard (L.A. was home to huge, inescapable swathes of billboards), or a scene from a movie, and off she went again, conjuring him up in her mind. Sometimes, she wished she hadn’t thrown it all away. Because as many new and interesting twists her life on the West coast had brought her, it lacked one primary ingredient: Vince.

It wasn’t enough that he simply spotted June having a night out on the town. No, it was even worse than he could have hoped. First, they were far away from where they originally met. He thought he had put enough distance between them but if he knew June, which he liked to think he did, then she had probably ended up chasing freedom on the West Coast, as well. He knew he should have gone farther than that but there they were, both in the same place at the same time. What made things even worse was that she wasn’t here alone, clearly on a date with a familiar face that Vince knew from his business dealings around the world. So, she had landed herself another rich man to pamper her? He scoffed with half a mind not to address her as he walked closer towards her and the exit. But, of course, all that time spent together meant far too much for him to be that petty. After all, he saw the recognition in her brown eyes – she was filled with the same emotions as him, that much he knew was the truth.
Then, he heard it – Richard calling her by the wrong name, and Vince was even more upset. Because he had a feeling that this was not her being romantic. She wasn’t that type – she was here because she was getting paid to be here. His gut flipped and the anger flared in his bright green eyes with every powerful step that he took. She left him and the life they could have possibly had together to go right back to this? Escorting randoms, sleeping with people she would never see again? Before he knew it, he was next to the podium and he was closer to walking out. He could avoid all this unnecessary heartache – all he had to do was walk out the door without saying a word to her. But being as pissed off and frustrated as he was, he could not find it in his heart to walk away.
“Hi, June,” Vince called out to her with that disappointed look in his eyes, looking down at her and feeling the wave of memories rushing back through his head. How many times had she dressed up for him like this, only to end up in a supply closet or in the back of his car moments later? It hurt, thinking about the memories they had built, only for her to throw it away at the last second because he seemingly was not good enough for her.
“You look great. But I see you’re on a date, so I’ll let you go. I’m only in Vegas for the night, it would have been nice to catch up. Take care, alright?” the tall blond said as politely as he could, although there was no mistaking the biting sarcasm in his words. She knew he was much smarter than he let on. It didn’t take much for him to figure out what was going on here, especially for someone who had been with her for as long as they were together. He knew exactly what her appetite was like, not to mention her love for nice things, so of course she had to do what she had to for survival. She could have had all that and more. He gave her one last smile before turning around, walking towards the exit with less guilt than would have had if he just left, but much more heartache to drown out with hard liquor.

There was no better place for Vince at this point in his life than Las Vegas. He hadn’t moved there, per se, but he had taken a short-term contract that included a residency here. He wasn’t sure what had compelled him to take the contract, considering he had never stayed in the city for too long, but it had been a good decision so far. CEOs, actors, athletes – there wasn’t a person that Vince had not met yet. Being the charming guy that he was, he made lots of friends and had plenty to do while living up in Sin City. It kept his mind busy from more depressing thoughts, like how he had once been deeply in love, to the point where if that person were to ask him to elope here, he would have said yes in a heartbeat. It was frustrating because for once, everything in his life had been going right. Nothing was chaotic, not even his normally erratic love life. For once, he had found the girl he wanted to be with; short-term, long-term, whatever. It did not matter if he had her. But before he knew it, it all came crashing down on him and the reality afterwards was not at all pretty. There hadn’t been that many low points in the blonde’s lavish life, but his break-up with June was by far the worst of them.
Some would argue that he was still in the aftermath of that depression. Sure, he drank more than usual, partook in most recreational drugs, and fucked anything with a nice body and a pretty set of eyes and smile, but that didn’t mean he was depressed. If anything, he was living his best life, with no strings attached to anyone but himself. It was relieving, and he should have been more reckless much, much sooner. Why did he ever bother getting so attached in the first place? Sure, it had been fun having someone reliable and like him, who satisfied pretty much any category that had for a partner. But like all fun things, it had come to an end and he had to learn to live with it and try to find someone new. The problem was that nobody in the world was like June. He had fucked strippers, escorts, porn stars, actresses and models of all kinds, but nothing compared to that fiery brunette; a force to be reckoned with who no one could compare to. It sucked thinking about her so fucking much and it pissed him off sometimes, but it had gotten better in the last couple months. Especially since coming to Vegas and finding plenty of pretty girls who wanted to spend time with him. Sometimes he paid, sometimes he didn’t. Money never mattered to him and it mattered even less now when he had no one to share it with. He had enough to spare and in Las Vegas, he was damn near a five-star attraction himself with every ritzy casino, nightclub, and bar who was eager and willing to please him and accommodate to his every whim.
He was about to leave a five-star establishment, waiting for the check to arrive at the fancy restaurant where he had dinner. Alone, as he was most nights, the blond felt perfectly comfortable wiping at his thin lips. This spot had grown to be a favorite of his because of the steak and the two cute waitresses who just so happened to be close roommates. They were fully aware of how insatiable his appetite was and were happy to help him with it, especially when he came here and tipped well. It had become a bit of a ritual the last two weeks, since the first time he had eaten here and almost took one of them in the restroom while she was on the clock. He placed a hundred-dollar bill on the table and stood up, green eyes scanning his surroundings. A look of horror streaked his handsome face when he realized who was coming in the same direction he was leaving in. His mouth opened a little in disbelief before he cleared his throat and corrected his posture. Now, he was definitely ready to get the hell out of here before it got too awkward. He fixed his black tie and suit jacket before moving forward – it was inevitable they would see each other but he planned on keeping as little contact as possible.
Life for June had taken quite the turn since their breakup. Separated from Vince, she saw little reason to stay in Florida, and packed her bags for somewhere equally sunny that she’d always wanted to go to; Los Angeles. She’d had faint hopes that her once-thriving camgirl career could be translated into something more mainstream: modelling and maybe even acting. Sure, she was no Audrey Hepburn, but maybe she could score a role in some zombie B-movie. That would certainly be fun.
Months and months later, it turned out that the modelling and acting markets were oversaturated, even for petite, cute brunettes like her. Turning to a different avenue, she fell back into what she knew best: sex work, this time as a high-end escort. It wasn’t quite so high end at first, she had to build up a name and reputation for herself, but given her charm, she was soon accompanying NBA players to afterparties and bachelor politicians into their lavish penthouse hotel suites. It wasn’t the life she had before, but it kept her busy. Most of all, it kept her mind off of a certain blonde who had once had a claim to all of her: heart, body, and soul. Nowadays she felt more heartless and soulless, but who needed those things? Her clients ensured she had a stream of good dick on the regular, and what loud orgasms couldn’t fill, retail therapy provided. One time, even Paris Hilton complimented her when they ran into one another at the Gucci store. It wasn’t such a terrible life after all.
Which led her to right now, accompanying one Richard Owens on a 3-night trip to Las Vegas. It was already the second night of their outing as a couple, and all his friends had sufficiently regaled her with tales about Richard she really couldn’t care less. For her part, she played the role of classy and charming girlfriend to perfection. She was all smiles once they’d entered the restaurant, but the person she saw across the room quickly wiped that smile off her face. Caught off guard like this, she let her emotions show.
Tumblr media
She had missed him. And how.
Before she could hide it, a splitsecond would reveal her true emotions; pain mingled with frustration. But luckily none of that went seen by her companion, who merely cut in due to her stopping in her tracks. “Babe? Lauren? You okay there? You just spaced for a second.” Addressing her by her name for the night, or rather the weekend, even that part took June a moment to realize in the light of everything. He’s calling you. That’s your name.
“Oh yeah, I’m fine,” she replied, wiping all evidence of her distraction off her face, shooting him a smile. They continued together to the podium where the hostess stood, waiting to seat people.
A few minutes later, it was evident that something was wrong with their reservation, and Richard was none too happy. “This is fucking unbelievable,” Richard huffed, “will you stay here? I’m going to speak to the manager.” And off he went with the hostess in tow, leaving a very awkward June to stay there, alone, by the podium. No, she didn’t dare look in his direction. She knew he was still there anyway, she felt it. Just the fact that Vince was in the room was enough to have her heartbeat wildly racing.
