Tumblr media
{Lottie gets a little jealous}
Aahh, thank you lovely!! enjoy <3
Tumblr media
Lottie knows she’s got a face like thunder right now— her eyes practically burning holes into the back of your head as you chat to some other girl, some girl who was on the opposing team! It sent her body into haywire, taut and oh so pissed off.
It’s not your fault, you’re a little social butterfly— you’d talk to just about anyone who’d spark up a conversation with you and it’s not like she doesn’t trust you, no, she just doesn’t trust this girl whose practically undressing you with her stupid eyes. She was seething in dizzying jealousy. Her stretches now the last thing on her mind as she storms across the field to you, arms instantly curling around your waist tightly— her grip possessive.
“O-Oh— hey,” You stutter out, trying to keep it cool as she tugs you back against her slightly— scowling over at the blondie you were talking to with a venomous look. “Thought you were stretching?”
“Needed a spotter.” She all but grumbles, lips pursing out into a pout that you can feel against your neck— her hands holding your hips.
“For stretching?” You cock your brow questioning, biting back a smirk as you catch a glimpse of her eyes— usually soft and doe-like now narrowed into dark slits of hate towards this stranger that had stolen up all your attention.
“Yes for stretching—” she bites back all too quickly with a small huff and the girl gets the hint, walking away back to her team with a small wave. Lottie despises the way you wave back at her, it’s completely irrational but it’s there and it’s suffocating her. “C’mon, please.”
You frown back at her, arms crossed over your chest and she knows that she’s messed up— yeah, maybe she came on a little too hard with all the dirty looks and the death grip around your waist. “You wanna tell me what that was all about?”
Of course, you knew, you knew exactly what her problem was from her pouty lips and knitted brows— the way she was clinging onto you like she was trying to merge your body with her own. You could read your girlfriend like an open book.
“She was looking at you like—” she huffs, waving her hand in a loose, frustrated gesture, “—like you I look at you, she was drooling all over you!”
You laugh, sharp and sudden— immediately slapping your hand over your mouth as you watch her shoulders deflate, unable to hold eye contact with you as she suddenly feels very silly for getting all worked up over nothing. “sorry, sorry.” You giggle, sighing softly. “Baby, you got nothing to be jealous of, I’m yours, yeah?”
“Still, it's annoying.” She huffs, pursing her lips to the side— cheeks puffing out slightly.
“Hey— look at me.” You coo softly, letting your hand cup her face and she immediately melts like wax beneath a flame— leaning into your hand like a needy puppy. “Whose number am I wearing?”
Her brown eyes flutter down to the jersey you’re dolled up in— heart skipping a few beats, stomach swooping as she reads the number, her number. “Mine.” Her plump lips soften into a dopey smile, turning her head to brush a kiss to the inside of your wrist— emboldened, she draws closer to you, wrapping her arms around your waist to pull you back into her, her lips pressing a kiss to yours, smile widening. “Mine.” She repeats with a giggle, muffled by another kiss.

5.5k wordcount (somewhat edited)
it was thursday afternoon and you did not want to be here.
you were smoking a little too obviously with nat under the bleachers earlier and in turn a teacher found you and sent you straight to detention, nat somehow creeping away.
you were half pissed with her and half impressed, because how the fuck did she manage to pull that off?
looking at the clock right now though, you were without a doubt, fully pissed.
you were drawing a crude drawing on the desk when mari stormed through the detention room, the door flying open and slamming.
you brought your attention to her sitting down with a huff.
weirdly enough, she didn't wake up ms. whiner, who was in charge of detention today.
also, weirdly enough, it was just the two of you in this room.
you casually got up and moved your seat to be right next to hers, just to see what she would do.
because, damn, you were curious.
you knew of her through nat, who was on the same varsity... something team as her.
you always forgot exactly what no matter how many times nat had reminded you.
mari looked at you with a big grimace on her face, ouch.
you offered your hand out to her.
she stared at it, disgusted.
you took it back slowly, causing you to see a trace of a smile on her. you grinned internally.
"you're on the team with nat right?" you asked.
"yeah, why?" she gave you a once over, well aware you were watching her.
god, why did bitchy women with a superiority complex have to be your type.
"well, i've heard great things about you"
"no you haven't" she said bluntly enough that you blinked in shock. a smile grew on your face.
"yeah, you're right. i've heard horrible things about you to be honest" you nodded your head with a casual tone.
she looked at you with a hint of new found curiosity.
"oh yeah? like what?"
"you're a gossipy bitch, wound up asshole, stuck-up prick-" mari cut you off with a hand in your face.
you gently took it and moved it to onto the table, keeping yours on it. she looked at it and then you.
"you're shameless" you grinned.
she laughed and leaned back in her seat, keeping her eyes on you.
"and you? what do you think of me?"
---
you came out of detention that day with a new friend, and most importantly new crush.
nat was the first person you told.
"nat! guess what!" you said, over the telephone, dangling the wire with your finger.
"what?"
"guess who i met in detention" you said in a sing-song voice before switching to stern, "and don't think i forgot you ditching me, ass"
"fuck, i don't know, jackie? and it's not my fault you stuck around"
you ignored the last part, "uh-uh, mari! i met mari in detention!"
"okay"
you faltered. "are you not surprised?"
"not really, it was about time someone called her out on her shit"
"hey! she's actually really..." you trailed off, thinking of a word to describe her, "exciting"
you could hear nat scoff on the other line, "exciting? that's what you came up with?"
"whatever. point is, she's really hot. also bitchy, but that's even better. i need your help winning her over"
"the fuck? am i hearing this right?" you could hear the smile in nat's voice and you groaned. "you want to hook up with mari? the mari on my soccer team?"
"yes"
nat laughed for a good two minutes while you impatiently waited for her to stop.
"oh, you're so fucked. but alright"
"gee, couldn't have said that before making me wait two fucking minutes for you to stop laughing like a fucking hyena?"
"nope"
you huffed
---
so you began your plans.
you showed up to the next practice session they had, which was conveniently the next day.
if anyone asked, you were here under the guise to pick up nat after to hang out.
nat glared at you when she saw you in the bleachers after she came out of the locker rooms.
so you hadn't told her about this.
she shuffled over to you.
"the fuck are you doing here?"
you put some glasses over your eyes. "watching the love of my life"
she shook her head with a smirk before going away. you threw a water bottle at her because you knew she didn't have one and she turned right back around, pissed. you smiled at her and looked at the bottle, causing her to look as well. she sheepishly picked it up and nodded her head at you, before going back.
you made yourself as comfortable as you possibly could on the bleachers as you looked around for mari.
soon enough the rest of the yellowjackets came out, mari included and your eyes immediately locked in on her for the rest of practice.
halfway through, when nat came to you on a break, mari had looked over.
you winked at her when she made eye contact with her and she looked away, with a prominent scowl on her face.
unknown to you, since you were so far away, you couldn't see the faint red blooming over her face, but akilah sure could.
"i see you" akilah said.
"shut up" mari said roughly, kicking the ball at her.
on your side of the field, you watched as nat gulped her water down.
"won't you get a stitch if you drink so much water and go straight into running"
"no," nat wiped water off her chin with the back of her hand. "'that's a myth"
"uh-huh" you said unconvinced.
"shut up, aren't you here to watch your girlfriend like a stalker?"
"she's not my girlfriend. yet"
nat chuckled, shaking her head.
"riiight, yeah"
"want to stay the night?" you asked.
nat nodded her head.
"okay go back to soccer slacker"
"wow. that was really good" nat said blankly. you flipped her off.
after practice you waited a few minutes before going into the locker room.
when you walked in you saw nat's locker so you went by it and sat at the bench.
"hey!" lottie said, as she saw you and slapped a hand to your shoulder.
"hey matthews!" you greeted back. you liked lottie a lot.
"is nat showering?"
"uhh," lottie frowned, thinking. "i think so, yeah"
"alrighty" you nodded.
"you guys hanging out?" she asked.
"why, want to come over?" you asked knowingly. you might not have known her that well, but you were sure lottie had a thing for nat.
lottie blushed. "no?"
you laughed. "okay, well i'm inviting you over"
"okay, okay yeah, i'll be there. in 30" she said, looking back as she walked out.
you held out a thumbs up.
"oh, what's this i'm hearing of an invitation?" van asked, popping out around the corner.
"come over to my house, palmer" you called out.
"aye aye"
"that was the corniest shit i've ever heard" you said.
taissa snorted, from her spot at the locker.
"wha- hey!" they turned to taissa who kept her face strictly on her locker.
"you too, tai" you said.
"can't. studying"
you blew a raspberry. "you can study at my house, it's not going to be a party. plus, it's a friday. you have all weekend to study"
"yeah, come on, tai" van said.
she sighed. "alright, alright"
you pumped a fist, "yes!"
tai laughed.
when you saw jackie and shauna come in, you hollered at them. "hey! shipman, taylor, come over to my house tonight. sleepover not a party! call it team bonding or whatever"
"you're not even a part of the team" shauna narrowed her eyes at you.
you shrugged, "yeah, but everyone else is coming. i'm basically an honorary member, next to misty"
"we'll be there" jackie said, smiling at you and tugging shauna with her before she could protest.
soon, nat came out of the shower.
"let's go" you got up and followed after her.
"misty! come to my house tonight, sleepover!" you called after her as you saw her leaned against the storage closet. she looked up from a clipboard and gave you a thumbs up enthusiastically.
"a what?" nat asked, shoving you.
you grinned at her. "the whole team is coming"
she groaned. "what the fuck?"
as you left the locker room you saw the one person you had been specifically looking for.
mari was against a car, checking her nails.
"here," you threw your keys at nat. "you can drive, i'll be right back"
nat caught the keys and you could see the glee in her eyes at the prospect of driving. she went to your car without another word.
you walked towards mari.
when she heard your footsteps she looked up and made a face.
"what"
you put a hand to your heart. "wow"
she rolled her eyes. "what is it?"
you straightened up. "team bonding sesh at my house tonight. it's a sleepover"
"your house? you're not even on the team?"
"well everyone's already coming so..." you looked at her cheekily.
"whatever. what time?" she rolled her eyes again and crossed her arms.
"as soon as you can come"
"why are you telling me this anyways?" she asked, narrowing her eyes at you suspiciously.
"because i personally wanted to invite you"
you heard nat honk your car from behind you, she had the windows rolled down and glared at you.
you turned back and looked at mari. "it seems as though i have to leave... i hope to see you there" you winked at her and quickly walked back to the car.
"nice going, it seems like she might hate you even more than me from the glare she gave you" nat said, as you got buckled in.
you sighed and reclined the seat.
"it may seem that way, nat. but i'm playing the long game. soon she'll be glaring at me for a whole other reason"
"ew, dude what the fuck?" nat slapped your arm and you laughed.
---
at your house you ordered nat to get the paper plates and cups out as you tidied up.
it was already pretty clean since your parents went on business trips basically always, so you finished pretty quickly.
by the time the doorbell rang, you were on the couch lounging.
nat opened the door and lottie stepped in, in pjs and a bag with her.
"you look cute" you said, before immediately turning you head back towards the tv and looking for a tape for a movie.
lottie snickered.
soon enough everyone had arrived except for mari. you bit your lip as you refrained from sitting near the windows and looking out.
"okay! i'm ordering pizza, what do you guys want?" you took their orders and called the place, and as you were on the telephone, the doorbell rang and there was mari in all her glory.
you couldn't lie, your heart raced when you saw her. god, it was like she got prettier each time you saw her.
you set the phone down and made your way back to the couch, that had been taken over by everyone.
"okay! so... pizza is ordered and now most importantly" you said seriously, looking at everyone one at a time. they looked back at you. "what movie?"
immediately everyone started talking at once.
"hey!" you shouted, causing everyone to shut up and look at you annoyed. "horror?"
van shot up and started naming movies and you just agreed on the third one.
"uh, i don't think we have it, who wants to go to the record store with me?" you asked.
everyone looked away and you groaned. "wow, okay assholes. mari get up, you're coming with me"
mari scowled but gave no protest as she stood up and walked with you out the door.
when you both were all buckled in she started talking.
"why me? why not nat?" she grumbled.
"because"
"because what?" she turned in her seat to look at you.
"how else am i supposed to woo you?"
"you're serious?"
"damn right i am" you chuckle.
"you might as well give up right now. i'm not into you. at all" she shrugs.
you smirk.
"unless you're specifically asking me to stop, i don't think so" you say with confidence.
she looks at you for a moment before turning back to the road.
"you can try, but i doubt it will get you anywhere" she finally says, as you pull up to the rental store.
you quickly get out and go over to her side to open her door. "we'll see about that" you say as she gets out. she flips you off and walks inside the store.
you follow after her and rush to the horror movie section as mari goes through all of the genres.
you grab the one van suggested and a few others to be safe and go to the counter. the woman looks at the movies and then at you.
"movie buff?" she smiles at you as she rings you up.
you give a small smile. "no, a friend told me to get these"
"they have good taste" she smiles at you again, a little bigger than last time.
you chuckle awkwardly and look back to see where mari is. she's looking at a poster on the wall. you turn back around and get some money out of your pocket.
"she your girlfriend?" she asks, looking at mari.
"oh, no, no" you shake your head.
the woman takes the money out of your hand and prolongs contact with it.
oh. she was flirting with you.
"good to know" she says, winking.
you flush, not because you like her, but because of how forward she was.
unfortunately for her though, your heart is set on someone else.
mari comes up behind you and taps her finger on the counter as the woman hands you back your change, again brushing your hand for longer than necessary.
mari looks at that and then at you with a questioning gaze that you avoid.
"yeah, thanks" you say and she puts the rentals on the counter. mari grabs it and gives you a look that sends you walking out quickly.
"come back soon!" you hear before mari slams the door.
you shudder from the cold. not... from anything else.
in the car, mari brings it up.
"so who's the girl?" she asks casually, as you're pulling out.
"the cashier. what were you looking at?"
"just some movies i've been wanting to see. anyways, do you know her?"
"do you want me to go back in? we can get it-"
"no! no, it's fine. i can do it another day. so?"
"so what?" you ask, in the middle of switching lanes, so you don't see the look on mari's face.
"do you know her?" she says with attitude.
"no, she's just the cashier. why, does she go to our school?" you ask, looking at mari for a second.
"she was pretty, huh?" she says, ignoring your question.
"you think so?" you ask, tightening your grip on the wheel. is this why she was asking? she liked the cashier?
mari sees this and something washes over her.
"no, dumbass"
"hey!"
mari rolls her eyes with a small smile. "hey, we got out of there pretty quickly, want to get something?"
"uhh, yes! yeah, of course what do you want?" you ask.
"let's go to the gas station. the one open 24/7"
you nod and switch lanes.
the two of you talk the whole time in easy conversation until you reach the gas station. you again quickly get out and go to open mari's door.
this time when you do, she lets you offer your hand to help her up, and she takes it, leaving you grinning as she walks up to the door.
"you comin?" she asks, opening the door. you nod dumbly and follow after her.
she leads you to the slurpee station. you get a mix of red and blue and she nods approvingly to you, getting the same. on your way to the cashier she gets a bag of chips.
before you can give the money to the cashier, mari takes out her own money and pays.
your jaw drops as she collects the stuff and turns to look at you with a teasing look.
"too slow. close your mouth or you might catch flies"
you shake your head smiling, and when mari rushes out of the store you follow right after her.
you tugged your hoodie tighter against you, the december cold was no joke. snow had started to fall, little by little, and you could see your breath.
mari is by the passenger side, pulling at the handle fruitlessly. you whistled as you got your keys out of your pocket and jangled it about.
she looks at you with a scowl but you can see a trace of a smile on her lips.
"looking for this?" you ask in a snobby tone.
mari giggles, "yeah, you asshole. unlock the car!"
you giggle and do that, the both of you rushing to get in to escape the cold.
she rubs her hands together as you turn on the heat.
you pull out and drive to a pond, not far from where you two are. once you park, you take your slurpee and sip on it.
"nice place, huh?" you ask, turning to mari.
she smirks, "eh, couldn't find something a little more romantic?"
"oh! what happened to not having a chance? giving into my charm?" you say, lifting an eyebrow.
"psh, please. i'm looking for peak romance, sweep me off my feet, fairytale ending type love," she looks at the foggy window and turns back to you. "if you do, want a chance, come with me" she says before opening the door and dashing out.
your jaw drops before you laugh in disbelief at her unexpected exit, dropping the snacks and taking your slurpee with you before also exiting the car.
the temperature outside is almost cold enough for you to immediately return back in the car, but one look at mari's figure running in ease toward the pond erases all of those thoughts.
you follow after her, laughing in childlike glee at the abusrdity of it all.
a day ago you're in detention with her trying to get her time of day and now you're following after her in pitch darkness in the cold toward a pond after getting slurpees together.
if this isn't love, then you aren't sure what is.
you come to a stop as you see mari resting against a boulder. you join her and stand close, wanting body heat and just because.
"romantic enough for you yet?" you ask, your breath visible in the air.
"i'd say so, yes" she says, eyes casting over the almost frozen-over pond.
you take the time to catch your breath and also take a lookout.
"you've been here before, haven't you?" you muse.
mari hums, eyes still on the pond.
"how often?"
mari finally looks at you. "every month. it's a nice quiet place people don't take advantage of"
you stare at her, mesmerized.
she looks back at the pond, but you're still staring at her. you don't look away until you hear something in the water.
you squint and eventually see a few fish right below the surface.
you watch as they move along, entranced.
after a few more minutes of silence mari looks at you and taps at your shoulder.
"let's go. they're probably wondering where we are"
you both know that's a lie, but you don't say anything and walk over to your car, shivering.
the ride back is in comfortable silence.
when you get back into your house, it's warm and the pizza has arrived.
"jesus, where were you guys?" van asks after swallowing their bite of pizza. "we thought mari had killed you or something by now"
you give them a look, "har har" you say blankly. you toss the tapes on the couch and drop down in front of the couch, leaning toward the coffee table to get a slice of pizza. "pick!"
as van picks a tape, nat whispers next to you. "why did it take you so long? did you guys make out or something?" you shove her and she laughs.
you look at mari and she looks back before you both look away.
something definitely changed between the two of you and it made you feel warm inside. you got a look into who mari really was, underneath the harsh exterior, and you'd be lying if you said it didn't interest you.
---
you hummed to yourself as you listened to some music in the cafeteria.
you were finishing up some homework when mari had slapped her lunch tray onto your table.
you took your headphones out and looked at her with a smile.
"hey babe" you said and mari swatted your arm.
"you haven't earned that privilege yet"
"yet?" you asked cheekily.
"privilege?" nat interjected, unbelieveably.
mari ignored your question and looked at nat. "yes, privilege. it's an honor i'm even sitting here to be honest" she deadpanned.
"all i'm hearing is that we're close to being an us!" you said happily, waving your pencil at her.
both nat and mari gave you a look you ignored.
"so why are you sitting here?" nat asked, narrowing her eyes at mari.
mari scoffed. "okay, i can leave!"
"no!" you shouted.
mari smirked at nat who rolled her eyes.
"why are you sitting with us though?" you asked.
"since you asked so nicely," mari shot a pointed look at nat, who rolled her eyes again, "i wanted to ask if you were going to lottie's party"
you looked at nat who shrugged and turned back to mari "maybe, only if nat goes"
"mhm" mari hummed, and took a sip of her soda.
"unless you want me to go as your date" you wiggled your eyebrows at her.
"no! why would i need a date at a party anyways" she scrunched her nose.
you shrugged. "couldn't hurt"
mari got up and left.
nat looked at you. "yikes"
you flipped her off.
---
"naaatt... come onnnn" you whined on her bed.
you had gotten ready a while ago and here nat was, redoing her hair for what seemed like the fortieth time.
"stop the fucking whining and we can go" she snatched her leather jacket and walked out her door.
you jumped up and basically ran to your car, itching to be at the party asap.
mari ran in some of the same circles as lottie, so you knew she would be there early.
nat huffed in her seat as you roughly pulled out.
"why are you in such of a rush?"
"mari, duh"
nat shook her head.
you got to lottie's in a little over fifteen minutes, speeding for most of it.
you practically pushed nat out of her seat and locked the car before rushing in. nat had already said she was going to find lottie so you went straight in looking for mari.
it only took you a few minutes to spot her by the drinks, getting something out of the large punch bowl.
"you sure that's safe?" you asked when you sidled up next to her.
"no, but i'm sure you'll be there to protect me" she said, winking at you.
she was drunk.
at least she wasn't an angry drunk.
"jeez, how much have you had?" you asked, taking her glass and dumping it before filling it with water. she protested but you didn't give in.
she rolled her eyes and took it, walking away.
you followed after her.
you had an arm around her waist as she led the two of you all over the house. you didn't have many objections, since you were content with mari in all of her moods, drunk or not.
"hey, i need to use the bathroom!" she whispered into your ear. you strained to hear it but once you did, you took her hand and tried to find the stairs.
the upper level of the matthews' house was strictly off limits to everyone but the team, and well, you.
unfortunately, you were blocked off by some guy.
"hey, mari, heard you're done with that danny guy!" some guy leered at her.
your grip on her hand tightened, not wanting her to make a scene.
"yeah? i have been for a while asshole" she scoffed. you tried to move past him but he pushed you back, making mari angrier.
"hey!" she came at him and punched him in the nose, causing a crack that you could hear, even with the loud music.
you grimaced as some of his friends came over to him. you tugged on mari and quickly led her up the stairs and to a bathroom. you opened the door and expected her to close it, but she tugged you inside.
you stumbled in as she closed the door and locked it.
you stood by the towel rack and watched as she went to the toilet. when she went to unzip her pants, you turned away and turned on the faucet.
"aw, now my hand fucking hurts" mari complained.
"maybe you shouldn't have punched that guy then"
mari blew a raspberry. "please, he pushed you!"
you sighed. "yeah, but that doesn't mean you break his nose!"
mari stood up and went to wash her hands. you leaned against the door with your arms crossed.
"he deserved it" she said as she turned around and looked at you. she wiped her hands on the towel and you moved away from the door to open it.
mari shocked you again by stepping away from the door's general direction and going in the tub. she stepped in and sat down before waving you towards her.
you complied and followed her, taking a seat right in front of her.
both of you were on either ends of the tub with your knees up.
"yknow, maybe you're not so bad" she muttered, blinking.
"you sleepy?" you asked.
"a little bit. but i don't want to go yet. i'm having fun"
"talking to me in the tub of a bathroom?" you asked laughing a little bit.
she gave you a sleepy smile. "yeah, i am" she chuckled quietly.
you leaned your head back. "you know.. you're different from what i thought"
mari looked at you questioningly. "and what did you think?"
"honestly?" you ask. "i thought you were a full on bitch," you laugh. "remember when you asked me what i thought? i wasn't lying then, and i'm not now. because, yeah you can be one. fuck, look at the guy you just punched"
mari giggled and you giggled back.
"but, you're more than that too. a lot more, if i'm being honest" you look at her and she's looking back at you meaningfully.
you're about to continue when you see how sleepy she looks.
"hey, come on, i'll drive you back home, alright?"
she nods slowly and you stand up and gently bring her up. you lean down and lift her onto your back. you hold her legs in your arms as she wraps her arms around your neck, her head in the crook of your shoulder.
you tell lottie that you're taking mari home and she nods before you make your way out to your car. nat was apparently spending the night, so that makes it easier for you.
you gently put mari in the backseat so she has more room to sleep and buckle her up. you jog to the front and start the car.
if you take extra time and focus to drive slowly and carefully to her home, than it's no ones business than your own.
when you're driving back to your own house you have a smile on your face that can't be wiped off and stays until you fall asleep.
---
ever since you realized you had a class with mari you've started sitting next to her.
sure, it was a pain for whoever sat there before now having to switch seats, but you didn't care.
you're doodling mari's name in your notebook with exaggerated hearts because you saw mari eyeing it when she slips a note to you.
you open it to see her asking if you want to watch a movie at her house. more specifically, one that she had wanted to get that day at the rental store.
you scribble down your answer and hand it back to her.
you watch her in your peripheral vision and smile when you see her scowling, obviously noticing the heart you had drawn on it.
---
"i thought you had practice today?" you asked as you're on the road to the rental store.
"it got cancelled due to bad weather" she says, messing with the heat option in your car.
you hum as you park.
you rush out and open mari's door for her, her grabbing your hand and pulling herself out. you close her door and lock the car before the two of you get inside.
you both sigh at the warmth inside the store before mari leads the way to the section where the tape is. you watch her go over the selections before she grabs a couple.
you follow her again to the register and you raise an eyebrow when you notice it's the same cashier as before.
"does she not have a life?" you hear mari mutter under her breath, so you know she noticed as well. you swat at her arm inconspicuosly.
mari slams the tapes on the counter, causing the woman to jump slightly and you give her an apologetic smile.
she recognizes you and smiles back, way bigger.
"hey there, back again so soon?" she asks.
mari interjects before you can say anything. "it's been, like, a month"
you purse your lips.
the woman gives mari a tight smile and grabs the rentals.
you get money out of your pocket but mari puts a hand over your arm. "it's okay honey, i got it"
you widen your eyes at the nickname as mari hands over the money roughly.
the woman takes it and puts it in the cash register.
"reciept?" she asks, looking at you only. something, mari notices and grows more frustrated over.
"no thank you, we're good" mari says for you.
you opt to stay silent the whole time for your own safety.
as the woman gives you back the stuff, mari starts walking toward the exit, but before you can follow, the woman stops you and hands you a receipt anyways,
"here, just in case" she winks at you.
you notice there's writing on the receipt and you pocket it as you rush to follow mari.
you unlock the car and the both of you get buckled in, dropping the rentals in the backseat.
you take out the receipt and see that the woman left her number with a message saying to 'call me x'.
mari sees it and snatches it out of your hand and rolls down her window before throwing it out.
you chuckle airily and she rolls up her window again, giving you a look that's daring you to say something.
you shake your head and start the car.
the car ride is silent as mari keeps her gaze strictly out her own window. you don't try and say anything.
when you reach her house mari gets out without a word and goes to her door, not giving you a chance to open it for her.
you sigh as you reach for the tapes and follow her in.
her parents are seemingly not home and you see her on the couch all bundled up in blankets.
she looks really cute but you're not sure you can say that right now without having severe injuries inflicted on you.
you hesitantly walk toward her and plug the tape in and then slowly sit on the spot next to her.
"so, what's this one about?" you ask.
she looks at you and scoffs looking away before looking at you again and scoffing louder.
you take the hint and stay silent, the only noise coming from the movie playing.
halfway into the movie she talks.
"would you have called her?"
"huh?" you ask, focused on the movie because it's really good.
mari sighs and pauses it, ignoring your protests.
"would you have called the woman at the store?" she asks, looking at you pointedly.
"no, she's old" you scoff.
"what if she wasn't? what if she was our age?"
you shake your head. "still, no. she's not who i'm interested in. why, you jealous?"
mari looks away with a glare.
you smile.
"i mean, who could ever come close to you, y'know? yeah any other woman pales in comparison to be honest" you say.
mari slowly looks at you. "yeah?" she asks.
you scoot closer to her. "yeah" you say confidently.
mari pulls you in for a kiss and you sigh into it.
when you break apart you're both smiling big.
"so i guess you could say my charm did really get to you, huh?" you say, wiggling your eyebrows.
mari shoves you but pulls you back in for a kiss.
"do me a favour... and shut the fuck up"
you admittedly called nat the next morning with a smug grin on your face when you relayed the day's events to her.

HI!!!
I've read all your yj stories and I absolutely love them all😭🫶 (especially the jackie x cheerleader one🙂‍↕️)
do u think u could write another jackie x f reader? established relationship:p
kinda like the lottie one, reader doesn't talk that much. she doesn't have anyone close to talk to even if she wanted to. but one day maybe like freshman year or something, she meets jackie one way or another. jackie kinda pushes her way into her life. eventually they get together. but reader doesn't really get to know the team, nor does she really wanna. she just likes to be with jackie only.
the teams like : 🤨
maybe since she's really got none else she's clingy with her (not that jackie minds)

jackie was on your bed complaining about nat while you were right under her, rolling your eyes fondly.
jackie looked at you from her spot on your lap and frowned. "what?"
you chuckled and moved a strand of hair from her face. "nothing!"
at jackie's pout you elaborated.
"i mean, you're always talking so much 'shit'," you put air quotation marks, "but it seems a lot more like you really care about her, that's all"
jackie stammered, "that-that's not true!"
you gave her a look and she bit her cheek and looked away.
"okay, maybe, yeah, i do care about her a little... but it's still irritating!"
you hummed.
"speaking of," jackie got off your lap to sit up, as you tried to tug her back. "the team's been asking about you"
you shut your eyes and fell back on the bed as you let out a groan.
"hey, hey, you don't have to meet them. they're just curious about you" jackie nudged you gently.
you opened your eyes to look at her. she was looking down at you with a smile on her face.
"i just..."
"hey, you don't have to explain, okay?" jackie reassured you.
you leaned in to give jackie a kiss, moving your arm to wrap around her waist and tug her towards you.
---
you were always somewhat of an introverted kid. from kindergarten all the way to.. well, now.
you never really had the urge to make a friend or talk to someone as much as other people your age. it was something you could live with without much fuss.
maybe sometimes you had wanted someone to talk to about important changes in your life, but it was never really a need.
you were okay with your own company, and hell, you preferred it most of the time.
that's not to say that being with jackie was annoying or anything-- you love jackie.
you met her in freshman year by coincidence.
you both had chosen a semester of study hall and your assigned seats were right next to each other.
being the way you were, you didn't have any plans of actually talking to her, and jackie, being the way she was, was planning on talking to you.
you knew of jackie from your middle school and while she was popular, she was just as nice. you'd seen it when someone would bump into her and she would talk to them for a while afterward.
so when jackie struck up a conversation with you, you were surprised when she kept doing it the day after and the next.
sure, you didn't have friends (mere acquaintences), so your talking skills were subpar, so when jackie seemed to genuinely enjoy your conversations, it was a bit of a surprise.
after the semester had ended, you didn't expect to talk to jackie again, maybe in passing, but not as a regular thing.
besides, jackie had really flourished and had become somewhat well-known by then by all of the freshman class and some of the upperclassmen.
so again, when jackie sat down at your spot by a tree at lunch, you were surprised how easily she struck up a conversation with you.
"hi!"
you looked up from a homework assignment that was due soon to see jackie's smile.
"hi?" you muttered, confused. why was she sitting here?
"i haven't seen you in forever" she pouted.
you nodded slowly.
"i missed our conversations, y'know? you're, like, the only person i know who's such great of a listener," she said staring at you. "besides shauna" she added as an afterthought.
you smiled weakly.
"yeah, the whole silence thing" she looked around at the empty table. "where are your friends?"
"don't have 'em"
you took a bite out of your sandwich as you continued to do your homework. you half-expected jackie to say something a little crude.
"that's so cool! not needing to have other people around to just... do whatever"
you looked up again at jackie's grin.
of course that's the first thought she would have.
you smiled, causing her eyes to light up.
"yeah, i suppose so"
---
jackie had somehow wormed her way into your life.
it started with random lunchtime conversations and had developed into hanging out outside of school.
in sophomore year when she had joined the soccer team she had made it her goal to become varsity team captain... something you were sure she could manage to pull off.
(you were right)
and in the middle of junior year, a little bit after the two of you had started dating, she had tried to get you to meet the yellowjackets.
"jackie..."
"no, seriously, they're really nice!" she said as convincingly as she could, but you were no fool. she tugged on your interlinked hands.
you gave her a look. you knew better as to trust her with this because she had come to you firsthand after practice with someone to complain about, either how unmotivated they were or how they made a mistake. especially on how bitchy some of them were... her words, not yours.
"okay, well they will be! i promise, as the captain of jv, they have to be"
you sighed, stretching your hand.
"jackie, in the most polite way... no"
she pouted, but didn't push.
at least she tried not to.
"okay.." she extended the word, "but why?"
you shrugged uncomfortably.
"i just... you know i don't have friends and you know i don't need them right? besides you of course and you're more than a friend! but i just... don't see the point, sure if i see them or they see me i'll say hi and whatnot but... i don't think it's really needed that we interact all that much" you said as you played with her hands.
jackie stayed quiet, listening to your rambling with rapid attention.
"okay" she said simply.
you studied her expression.
"you're not... mad?" you asked hesitantly.
"no, of course not. if you don't want to, then you don't have to" she shrugged and smiled. "anyways, can we watch-"
you cut her off with a grin. "beaches?"
---
as senior year started and your relationship with jackie got stronger, so did the yellowjackets' curiosity of you.
jackie hummed as she opened her locker.
"new bracelet?" van asked when they caught site of a woven string on jackie's wrist.
jackie turned around, suddenly very enthusiastic, "yup, my girlfriend tied it on me" she said smugly, and showed it off.
van snorted.
"what?" jackie frowned and pulled her arm back, admiring the bracelet.
"how come we've never seen your girlfriend?" lottie asked, leaning on a locker.
jackie turned to her, "shauna has!"
shauna, who was tying her shoe, looked up panicked. "huh?"
van looked at her, "have you seen jackie's girlfriend?"
shauna looked at them confused. "we all have?"
nat pinched the bridge of her nose. "have you talked to her?"
"oh. oh yeah, she's nice" shauna went back to tying her shoe.
jackie looked at all of them smugly. "see"
"yeah, well, that's because you and shauna are fucking connected by the hip whenever your girlfriend isn't. how come we've never talked to her?"
"she's shy" jackie shrugged. "what, can't deal with the fact someone doesn't want to get to know you guys?" jackie added teasingly.
"yes" van muttered, somewhat seriously. taissa slapped their arm.
---
so you didn't want to really interact with the yellowjackets...
other than shauna.
shauna was fine, she was a little like you, more on the quiet side. actually she was more brooding, than even you. either way she was a lot more quiet and easy to talk to.
well, in comparison to jackie, but opposites attract and all that shit.
you'd seen enough of the yellowjackets from the games you'd come to see to support jackie and when you'd pick her up after practice.
they were really rowdy and that personally wasn't your thing.
you watched jackie snore in her sleep. as much as she would try and deny it, yes, she snored.
but cutely. there were little tiny groaning noises and it was so adorable.
you moved a strand of hair off her face and she snuggled closer to you.
and, oh yeah, there was also the fact that you wanted to keep jackie all to yourself in a way.
a/n: uhhh i hope u like it i was at a creative loss 😭

Thanks for reading! ❤️❤️
Living in Jackson’s Star wasn’t easy. You had grown up here, surrounded by the harsh, industrial environment, but it held ghosts. Every time you walked past the mines, you could still hear the echoes of that day, of the collapse. It was years ago, but the memory of the accident, the dust, the darkness, and the loss of your parents lingered like a scar you couldn’t hide.
Rain Carradine, your partner, was one of the few lights in your life. She had a way of seeing through the darkness, like she could part the clouds with just her presence. You had met her during one of your darker days, and since then, she had become your anchor. But that came with complications, ones you tried to hide.
Your trauma had made you clingy. Not in an obvious way—at least, you didn’t think so. But being near Rain, touching her, feeling her warmth or the reassuring brush of her hand, it kept the nightmares at bay. She was taller than you, just slightly, and when you were close, you could press your forehead against her shoulder, feel the security of her heartbeat against yours. It was grounding, and you needed it more than you wanted to admit.
Even now, as you sat in the small makeshift home you shared, your leg rested against hers while you both listened to her synthetic brother, Andy, ramble on about some old story from before he had malfunctioned. His voice was a bit glitchy, the software not perfect, but there was an innocence in him that Rain adored, and because she adored him, you did too.
Tyler and Kay had dropped by earlier, along with Bjorn and Navarro. They were good friends—solid, trustworthy—but sometimes their presence only heightened your need to be near Rain. You’d stand next to her while they talked, your arm brushing against hers. Sometimes, if you were really distracted, you’d wrap your pinky around hers or lean against her when no one was looking.
You knew you were being too clingy. You knew it wasn’t normal. But the fear, the gnawing, cold fear of being alone again, of losing someone again, wouldn’t leave you. The mine accident had stolen everything from you once, and you weren’t going to let it happen again.
“Hey, you okay?” Rain asked softly, pulling you out of your thoughts.
You blinked, realizing you had been staring at the wall, lost in your own head. “Yeah,” you mumbled, shifting slightly so you didn’t seem so attached to her. You moved to pull your leg away from hers, but she placed a hand on your thigh, keeping the contact.
“I know you better than that,” she said, her voice gentle, her gaze piercing. “You don’t have to hide how you feel around me.”
Your heart raced at her words, and a part of you felt exposed. “I’m not hiding anything,” you whispered, but it was a weak argument, and Rain knew it.
“Babe, I’ve known you long enough to see when you’re struggling.” She gave you a soft smile, leaning closer so her forehead touched yours. “You don’t have to pretend with me.”
Her touch was a balm to the ache inside you, and you sighed, leaning into her. The closeness of her, the scent of her hair, and the warmth of her skin calmed the storm that always seemed to loom over you. “It’s just…sometimes, it feels like if I’m not near you, I’ll lose you too.”
Rain didn’t flinch at your words, didn’t pull away or tell you that you were being too much. Instead, she wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer. “I’m not going anywhere. And even if you cling to me like a barnacle, I’m not going to complain. You know that, right?”
You chuckled softly, though it was shaky. “A barnacle?”
She grinned, that playful sparkle in her eye that you loved so much. “A very cute barnacle.”
Andy, who had been listening in his usual silent way, suddenly chimed in, his voice stuttering slightly as he spoke. “Barnacles… are essential to the ecosystem. Without them… the underwater structures would collapse.”
Rain and you both laughed at that, and she kissed the top of your head. “See? Even Andy gets it.”
Tyler and Kay returned with Bjorn and Navarro, and the evening grew livelier. But even then, with all the laughter and conversation swirling around the room, Rain kept a hand on your back, tracing gentle circles as if to remind you she was there, and you weren’t alone. You stayed close, resting your head against her shoulder, feeling the steady rise and fall of her chest as she laughed at one of Bjorn’s wild stories.
To the others, it might have looked like casual affection between two people in love. But to you, it was everything. It was the lifeline you needed to keep going, to fight back the fear that threatened to swallow you whole.
Later that night, after everyone had left, and it was just you and Rain again, she pulled you into her arms under the worn, patchy blankets. She didn’t ask any questions, didn’t press you for answers. Instead, she just held you, her breath soft against your skin as she whispered, “You’ll always be safe with me.”
And for the first time in a long time, you believed her.

The morning light snuck into the room. Beams of light illuminating the room. Enough brightness to disturb your sleeping eyes. Humming softly, you tossed and turned a bit. Feeling a sudden loss at something. Patting your hand around on the matrass to find her. Groaning soft, you hated having a king size bed. You rather had a smaller bed so you wouldn’t lose her. You kept patting your hand around till it got lifted up. – “I’m right here.” – Susan replied lowering your hand on her head for you to feel her. Smiling with your eyes still closed, you rolled over to the side.
Letting your other hand join Susan’s body, pulling her closer to you. Susan helped you a bit, moving to you. Your arms went around her, pulling her as tight as you could against your chest. Exhaling relieved to have her in your arms again. Susan’s arms were around you as well. Susan let her chin rest on top of your head. Snuggling underneath the sheets. Susan had a smile on her lips. – “I do have to get up.” – she muttered out, rubbing your back. – “Five more minutes.” – you replied listening to her heartbeat. Susan giggled loud, giving you a playful slap against your back.
“I have duties to attend.” – she explained. – “Your duty is with me, your majesty.” – you told her, rubbing your forehead against her chest. All snuggled up against her. Susan laughed once more. – “I’m afraid that excuse won’t count.” – she said hearing you groan annoyed. Susan shoved you a bit back to have a glimpse of your face. Your pouty lips making her laugh. – “I’ll tell the High-king, you were indisposed. Emergency?” – you told her. Susan cupped your cheeks, slipping her leg between yours.
“How I wish you could, but this is important.” – she let out, giving you a kiss afterwards. Susan let go of you, slipping out of bed. You groaned loud, rolling on your back to stare at the ceiling with your arms wide open. – “Oh don’t be such a baby Y/n.” – Susan said grabbing a pillow, throwing it at you afterwards. The impact made you close your arms, legs pulled up. Moving the pillow aside, you rolled onto your stomach.
Watching her get dressed. – “Tell me what is on the agenda oh Queen Susan the gentle.” – you called out, receiving a glare from her. Chuckling a bit, you pulled a pillow underneath you for support. – “Well there is the morning report. The gathering with the archers. The kings council…” – she listed pacing around to count on her fingers.
Keeping her focus on getting it all right in the right order. You puffed loud as it caught her attention. – “And when does the queen have time for her loving subjects?” – you asked her. Susan’s brow quirked up. – “and with loving subject, you mean yourself?” – she teased.
You nodded jumping up to your feet on the bed. Susan chuckled softly finishing preparing herself. You jumped out of bed, coming over to her. – “I mean you must pay attention to your subjects.” – you told her, placing your hands on her shoulders as she sat in front of the vanity. Susan looked up at you through the mirror.
“You are no mere subject Y/n.” – she told you, turning around. Taking your hand in hers, she left a soft kiss on them. – “You are my long becoming friend and partner now.” – she reminded you. – “Without you I don’t know if I would’ve been so brave. Not with the white witch, not with Midas…”
With tears in your eyes, you wrapped your arms around her. – “Liar, you are the bravest person I know. You are only saying to please me.” – you cried out, hugging her tight. – “I am not.” – Susan replied with a smile, patting you on the back to give her some breathing area. Sniffling loud, you pulled away. Seeing the tears in your eyes, she looking amusingly with sympathy at you.
Letting a finger brush against your cheek to make you snap out of it. – “Perhaps you should get dressed too.” – Susan said pointing at your nightgown. You looked down at yourself, snorting loud. You ran to the closet, pulling out your cloths as Susan finished up. Hand in hand, the two of you roamed the halls of Cair Paravel. Subjects bowing their heads at the sight of their queen.
The doors got opened to the throne room. Susan’s siblings already present. You walked Susan up to her throne next to Peter’s. Susan gave you kiss, saying her goodbyes. She then went to sit on her throne. – “Y/n.” – Peter greeted you with a nod. – “High-King Peter.” – you replied with a curtsy. You then curtsied before Susan, Edmund and Lucy as well.
Susan gave you a sympathetic smile with a little wave gesture before you made your way down the steps. Leaving the throne room. As the doors closed on you, you saw the bison approach the kings and queens for the morning report. Sighing loud, you didn’t like being away from Susan. It was like you couldn’t think without her or figure out what to do. Stepping away, you went outside knowing what her second topic of on the agenda was.
Sitting on a rocky wall, kicking your feet back and forth. Waiting patiently for Susan to pass by. You knew she had to pass here to get to the archery area. The sun just warm enough on your skin. Puffing loud, you hoped it wouldn’t take much longer. Missing her already. It was something you couldn’t help.
Ever since being separated from your family because of the war, you developed this need for reassurance that anyone was always close by. That anyone being Susan. Meeting her first at the professor’s house. Following along to Narnia. Susan went from strangers to friends to lovers. It took a while since it wasn’t accustomed for two girls to be in love.
Back at home it might have been a problem, but in Narnia it never is. Free to love whoever you like. Sudden footsteps made you lift your chest up. Smiling hard at the sight of Susan. There was a second of surprise on her face, before it settled to a smug stare. – “Have you been waiting for me Y/n?” – she asked as you jumped off the stone wall.
“Yes. A Queen needs an escort to her next agenda point right?” – you told her, locking your arm with hers. – “Alright escort me.” – Susan replied. You led her down, further away from the castle. Not far from you were knights practicing their swords skills. You arrived at the tent, opening the flap to her. – “There arrived safely.” – you said. Susan curtsied at you as a thank you. Letting her hand rest against your cheek, she stole another kiss from you. – “Will you wait for me?” – she asked. – “As long as I need.” – you told her. Susan disappeared into the tent as you waited outside. Kicking at some rocks to pass the time.
The tent flaps opened once more as Susan and the archers walked out. She was still talking, leading them to the practise court. It intrigued you, so you snuck closer to them. Keeping your distance. The archers stood with their backs at you, listening carefully at their commander. Susan stood by the practice targets. You far behind the wooden fences.
Lifting your body a bit up, you admired her from afar. Susan’s gaze fell on you mid-sentence, making her pause briefly.  Needing a bit of attention to pick up on her speech. You came leaning on the fence, blowing on a flower. Susan suddenly laughed, the archers looking confused at her. Widening her eyes, she cleared her throat excusing her little outburst. Trying not to pay much attention to you, she finished her speech.
The archers nodded as she parted ways with them. – “You made me laugh.” – was the first she said. – “I didn’t do anything.” – you told her confused. – “I know.” – she answered teasingly, taking your hand once more. Escorting her to the kings council. Knowing you couldn’t be present or anywhere near it, you said your goodbye’s and returned to your quarters.
Waiting eagerly and yearningly for Susan to return. Laying mindlessly on the bed. Staring out onto the sea. Cleaning up a bit. Anything to make time go faster. The door opened making you lift your head up. Susan stumbled exhausted into the room. Gasping loud, you got up, running up to her. – “My dearest Susan, look at you.” – you said giving her a hand for support.
You led her to the bed, letting her sit down. Susan let herself fall back with an exhausting sigh. – “I am drained.” – she let out, letting an arm fall over her face. You came sitting beside her, looking briefly up to the ceiling. – “Than you must need healing.” – you told her. Susan intrigued, moved her arm up with a smirk. Both of you laughed crawling further onto the bed. Snuggling against each other.
Facing each other to embrace the other one as purely as possible. – “Please tell me no more attendances?” – you asked her. Susan shook her head as her chest rubbed against your forehead. – “No more, just you and me.” – she told you. Lifting your head up, you smiled at her. – “My favourite moment of the day.” – telling her with the most lovable gaze. Susan looked down on you, smiling before her lips crashed onto yours. Kissing you deeply with all the love she had for you. Finally able to relax after a long and exhausting day.

It’s by chance you ever end up in the path of the Wranglers and into Tyler and Kate’s lives.
They aren’t even looking for someone to help manage the team but even Boone and Lilly can admit that with the attention they’re getting, they need someone who can keep up.
So by chance, by luck, or all because of a tornado, Tyler ends up connecting with you through a friend of his from UA.
The job description is unorganized chaos, simply put. Managing the crew on a day to day basis is enough, not to mention helping them manage the finances, stay within legal code, managing the social media, and getting their foots in the door for grants and sponsors.
Boone’s convinced you’ll run screaming from the team all the way back to the city, Javi too, but it actually ends up to be a seamless fit.
You help Lilly and Boone with the sales, the production of merch, and all the channels. You’re even the one who sets up a Tiktok, their donations and attention increasing tenfold. You research grants and donors for Javi and Kate and you help Tyler source new equipment for the team.
When all is said and done, three months have flown by and Tyler is forever grateful you’d been blown into their path. You’ve blossomed with this crew and they’re changed because of it.
Not to mention the way you’ve grown into Kate and Tyler’s relationship. Although they never say it, unsure of how to fold you into their dynamic, you’re there in ways that complement their already existing chemistry.
Kate’s quite fond of you too, he knows. He would’ve seen it a million miles away, the way Kate’s eyes had sparkled meeting you, the way they do in the field. But she’d say the same about him, citing the way he goes soft for you in a way he’d only ever done for Kate.
The problem is - he still can’t figure out how you even managed to end up here.
“C’mon.” Javi says, nudging you. “How the hell does a city girl like you find her way to hell’s corner in Oklahoma, managing a bunch ragtag storm chasers?”
You shrug, fiddling with your beer bottle, glancing out at the group sat around the crackling fire. You and Javi are sat a top Ty’s truck, the crew looking intently at you. “You just asking or you really wanna know?”
The group breaks into various calls, corralling you into telling them.
“It’s kind of a long story.” You defend, a sheepish grin growing on your face.
Javi nudges your shoulder again. “C’mon, tell us. We barely know anything about you city girl.”
“A couple months ago, at the start of tornado season, I was in Texas, for a friends joint bachelor/bachelorette party. We were at a rodeo and I had gotten separated from the group. An EF4 hit the place out of nowhere and I wasn’t able to get back to the shelter in time. I’ve always been terrified of tornadoes, we don’t got ‘em where I’m from, but- that was something else.” You shake your head, shaking off the memories. “I should’ve died. It should’ve killed me, but it didn’t. And all I could think of was that I had been given a second chance, just barely. And what I was doing just didn’t make sense anymore.”
Boone lets out a low whistle as Javi’s hand finds your shoulder. Tyler can feel Kate tense in concern, his own brows furrowed.
“Within the week, I’d quit my job, got rid of all my stuff, dumped my boyfriend, and broken my lease. I didn’t know where the hell I was going but I knew I couldn’t stay there. I just needed to- to find somewhere, someplace, where I could do something tangible. I kept thinking that what I lived through was only a sliver of a glimpse into what y’all experience your whole lives out here and I- I just wanted to help.”
“So you found the Wranglers.” Lilly finishes and you nod.
“When I’d left town, I gave Lainey a call. Her and her fiancé had been the one hosting us at their ranch for the trip and asked Lainey if she knew of anything I could do, any place I could go. Next thing I know I’m on a plane to Oklahoma and some self-proclaimed tornado wrangler I’ve never heard of is picking me up from the airport.”
“Is this why you refuse to go storm chasing with us?” Boone calls out as Tyler sits up straighter in his chair, Kate shifting as he does.
“Hold on a damn minute.” He asks, the group falling silent. “Lainey’s fiancé, Smith, he’d been killed at a rodeo just this year.”
Your eyes are cautious when they meet his. “Smith gave his life for mine. He’s the one who got me to safety and he paid for it. I’ll spend the rest of my life making up for it.”
It goes silent in the group as you avert your eyes. After a few moments, you slide down the front of Tyler’s truck, chucking your beer in the trash.
“It ain’t your fault, you know.” Tyler calls out as you begin to walk away from the group.
You freeze.
“These tornados, they ain’t what they used to be. They take and take. Weather cares little of the price of human life.” Tyler says.
“Those reports you see on the news, they’re true. They’re getting worse every year, that’s why we’re out here. It’s why you’re out here.” Javi follows up as you turn back to face the group. “We’re gonna find a way, to make things better. We’ll never be able to stop the weather, not completely, but maybe we can find a way to keep up with it.”
“It’s okay to admit I’m not contributing much. I mean I don’t know shit about science and I don’t want to get near a tornado for the rest of my life. I’m-“
“Helping.” Kate protests. “You are. You might not think it but you are. We could barely do this on our own, we need you.”
You’re hesitant to accept Kate’s words for what they are but the group seems to be giving their consensus and Tyler’s beckoning you over to him and Kate.
“Listen,” He says, once you’re sat between him and Kate. “We might be the most ragtag bunch of hicks you ever met. But as this grows we ain’t never been able to do it without you. If we succeed, if we do this, you’ll have played no small part in it. You belong here.”
You spend the rest of the night tucked into Kate’s side the both of you quiet as the group carries on.
It’s only as the group is getting ready for bed, Tyler putting out the fire, Boone leaving to find a bush to pee in, that you speak.
“Sometimes I wonder why I got to live and he didn’t.”
Kate looks down at you. “You’ll drive yourself crazy if you go there you know. What you have that they didn’t. What you could do that they couldn’t.”
“Will it be enough?” You say but Kate has no answer for you.
Instead, she shifts upwards and away from you.
“You should really think about coming out with us sometime.” She says. “Tornados are terrifying but they’re sometimes the most beautiful things. The way they manifest, the way the world just changes. You should give it another shot.” She gives you a soft smile before leaning down to press a soft kiss to your head. “Night. Get some sleep.”
You lose track of how long you stare at the dying embers before Tyler comes back with another bucket of water to put the fire out for good.
“You couldn’t have saved him, you know.” Tyler says, setting the bucket down. “But you still have a chance to help us save others. You might not see it but we need you.”
You nod. “Thanks Ty.”
He gives you a smile. “Anytime kid. Get some rest. We’ve gotta get on the road bright and early tomorrow morning. And uh, think about changing your mind on doing some storm chasing why don’t you? There’s a whole world you’re missing out there.”
-
It’s late under the Oklahoma skyline. Your friends have either gone off to their motel rooms or are partnered up into their own conversations but you’re too comfortable to move away from Kate, wrapped around her side.
Your fingers brush up and down her skin, the dying fire crackling before you. As your fingers come to gently trace over her scar, you falter, smoothing your thumb over the skin.
“Can I ask?” You speak softly. “What happened?”
In the months that you’ve grown into this group, Kate has shared little of the story behind the scar. While you’re naturally curious, you know even more that it’s a missing piece to a girl and a relationship you’re still learning.
Kate’s eyes look up at you, firelight reflecting a soft something you can’t name. And then she sits, tugging on your hand.
She leads you to her shared room with Tyler, leading you inside as Tyler looks up from his phone he’s scrolling through.
It’s not unusual these days, to find yourself somewhere with these two. Whether it was curled up in their bed or around a fire or a diner table or in the back of a truck, you found yourself more and more drawn into their presence. The three of you were standing on the precipice is something and lately, it too often looked like you were the one hesitant to take the dive into uncharted waters.
You pause at the doorway, surveying them. “You sure?” Kate nods and you slip inside, shutting the door behind you. Kate nudges you towards the bed and you go, Tyler’s warmth radiating off of him as your back finds stability against his broad frame. Kate climbs in the bed next to you, careful to leave her legs intertwined with yours. You feel her hands reach around your body, hands grazing Tyler’s.
She licks her lips, breath shaky as her eyes flicker down to the faded tear of flesh.
“It was six or seven years ago now. This project we’re doing out here, the one you’re supporting, it all started because of what Javi refers to as my science project.” Tyler straightens as she talks. “We… we failed.”
“What do you mean?” You ask softly.
Kate’s eyes finally meet yours. “My friends, we were supposed to release the polymer into an EF1, maybe EF2. But- I was wrong. It was an EF5.” She screws her eyes shut. “I lost them one by one. The tornado took them from me and left nothing but devastation in its wake. The scar- it’s a reminder of them, of what I lost that day. The cost of what happens if I don’t get it right.”
“Kate.” Tyler says softly, a firm note hidden beneath it. Something in it tells you they’ve had this conversation before, that Tyler’s heard this story before.
You wrap your arms around Kate, tucking your head on top of hers. “You’ll get it right, Kate.” You whisper. “You’ve got this.”
-
The next morning finds you with a storm on the horizon.
You sit on the top of Tyler’s truck as he beams at you, hands on his hips. “So you coming or what, pretty lady?”
You smile at him, hands wrapped around the chipped mug Boone had lent you. Six months in the field and all you still really had to your name was your toothbrush and a pair of pajamas. “I dont know, you promise not to drive me right into the middle of that tornado?”
Ty chuckles, shaking his head. “You’ve got my word. No fireworks or nothing. I’ll give you the best storm chase you’ll ever see.”
“Kate coming?” You ask, unable to stop the hopeful question from tumbling past your lips. He nods, though his grin falters.
“Javi too.”
You shrug, handing the now empty coffee mug to him as he offers you as hand to slide down his truck. “Just tell me when.”
No less than a half hour later, the four of you are in Tyler’s truck, cruising down an empty stretch of dirt road of an abandoned town. Your gaze is on the horizon before turning it back to the people in the van.
“So Javi, you never did tell me how you and Kate had met?”
A grin forms on his face. “Kate and I go all the way back, man. She was the OG storm hunter.”
You can see Kate smile in the rearview mirror, your eyes meeting. “They’ve got their own handshake.” Tyler comments, a teasing lilt to his voice.
“When do I get my own handshake?” You comment, chancing a glance back out the truck. “Holy shit, that’s what we’re chasing after?”
“She’s gorgeous ain’t she?” Tyler roars, the truck speeding up.
“I never thought I’d see something like this.” You breathe, eyes going wide. “There’s so little sky to see in the city. Here’s that’s all there’s to see.”
You can’t see the grin Javi is giving you, wonder taking over your features as you crane your head to look closer. “Yeah, you’re going to be sticking around a while.” He says softly. “You’ve fallen for the charm.”
“Ty.” Kate says sharply, tilting her monitor. “Do you see that?” Tyler peers out into the distance where she’s pointing. The car rolls to a stop as them and Javi start using words you don’t understand.
“What? What’s happening?”
“Do we got time to get back?” Javi says, pulling his seatbelt off.
Tyler shakes his head, pressing his seatbelt buckle as he presses another button on his truck. “No, we gotta get low. Now.” His door flies open, and you follow suit, shouting to Kate as you do, asking what’s happening.
She grabs your hand as the wind begins to pick up around you. “I was wrong.” She says. “It’s gotta be an EF3, at least. We’ve gotta get down.”
“Kate! Do you see any places?!” Tyler shouts, ushering the two of you away from the car.
She pauses, scanning the area. “There!” She shouts, pointing to a storm grate a bit farther out more towards the main road. The four of you take off, but it’s obvious you can’t keep up. The wind rages as you feel your ankle twist. The collision to the dirt hurts less than you think it’s going to as the panic in you reaches its peak.
You’re going to die here.
“No, you ain’t.” Tyler says over the wind, arms coming up to support your under your armpit.  “Not on my watch.”
Another set of arms lifts you up, as Kate shouts to follow her. The boys carry you the best they can but your eyes are blurry with panic. Kate takes you from them, helping you over to the storm grate.
“Kate, I don’t- I don’t want to die.”
“Just hold on to that.” She says firmly. You do as instructed, laying on the ground. Tyler’s body follows yours, clutching onto the grate over your body. His body covers your own, sheltering you from the worst of the weather.
It’s only then you realize you’re shaking, from the wind or the rain or the freezing terror, you’ll never know.
“Stay down.” Tyler bellows over the wind. “Stay low and hold on.”
You whimper, clutching tighter to the grate as the storm’s power increases overhead. “I’ve got you.” Tyler says, Kate repeating his words.
You aren’t sure in the haze when it all stops, just that you can’t stop shaking and the tears rolling down your face won’t end. Kate’s fingers are around yours, gently prying them from the grate as she runs a soothing hand through your hair.
“Are you hurt?” Tyler asks bending down next to you as Kate gets the last of your fingers off of the grate. Your shoulders are shaking, unable to stop the sobs wracking your body enough to answer.
“You’re safe.” Kate whispers. “You’re safe, we’ve got you I promise.”
And yet all you can do is cry. You feel Tyler tentatively reaching out for you, looking over your body for an injury he might’ve missed. His hands pause underneath the Wrangler sweatshirt you’re wearing, hesitating before they slip under. When they come back clean, he pulls you to your feet.
“I’m going to carry you back to the truck.” He says cautiously. You feel him lift you up and your hands find purchase in his shirt. “I’ve got you. You’re safe.”
By the time you reach the truck, the tears have stopped, drying in tracks on your face. “Kate.” You say softly, as Tyler sets you in the back of the truck. He glances over his shoulder, where he can see Javi presumedly comforting Kate.
“She’ll be here in a minute. You okay?”
You nod. “Just- just shaken up. I panicked and flashed back I guess. What’re the odds you almost get killed by a tornado twice?”
Tyler shakes his head. “You stick around here long enough, it’ll happen more than that. Look, we were all gonna head back to town tonight anyways. Why don’t you come back to Kate and I’s? I don’t think she’ll want you to leave her sight and I don’t want you to be alone.” You nod as Ty’s thumb reaches up to rub away some of the dirt. “You’re okay. We got you. We’ll take care of you.”
Kate returns to the truck a few moments later, wrenching the other side of the back open. “You okay?” She asks softly, climbing in next to you.
You nod. “What were you and Javi talking about?” She glances at the man before shaking her head.
“Nothing. Say, do you want to come back to Ty and I’s place? We’ll get your ankle all fixed up, some clean clothes. It’ll be a couple days before we’re out on the road again. Give you a chance to regroup?”
You nod. “That would be nice. I’d like that.”
She smiles softly, reaching out for you. “We got you.”
-
You’re tucked up under Kate and Ty’s comforter, the fan on low as your fingers find purchase in the soft material.
“Kate? It ain’t your fault.”
Your head peeks up at the low voices on the stairs.
“It is.” Kate says lowly. “It is my fault. How many times is it going to take for me to learn? She could’ve died.”
“But she didn’t.” Tyler insists. “Aside from a sprained ankle, she’ll be fine. She’ll be on the road with us in just a few days, scheduling more presentations and fancy grant sessions than we know what to do with. Fact of the matter is she’ll probably be on the phone with Lilly tomorrow morning bright and early about new designs for like, keychains or something.”
Kate sighs. “I can’t afford to get it wrong this time.”
“You’re not going to.” Tyler says, the stairs creaking, meaning he’s probably moving closer to her. “She trusts you Kate.”
“At what cost? They trusted me then too.”
“There’s no price to be paid here Kate. She trusts you, this team. She’s got us, the same way we got her.” Tyler sighs. “Let’s just get to bed okay? I wanna be next to my girls.”
Something stirs in your chest at the way he says girls as in plural but you’re too tired and strung out to dissect it. Kate slips into the bedroom a minute later, Tyler not far behind her. She climbs into the bed next to you, quick to climb under the comforter. Tyler follows suit on your other side.
“We got you.” She whispers, but this time, you think she may be assuring herself more than you.
-
This was wrong. Something was wrong here.
It almost felt, like in some weird haze, she’d lived this day before.
This was definitely wrong.
“Kate, c’mon! Help us!” Javi shouts. She breaks from her reverie, running to the boys to grab you from them.
“I don’t want to die. Kate, don’t let me die.”
But it’s some ill-fated prophecy, the way she keeps failing, because the minute the boys let go, you’re gone.
Your screams pierce through the air as all she can do as watch.
The wind comes to a stop, it all falling still around them as the boys stand there in horror.
“What did you do?” Tyler asks lowly. “What did you do Kate?!”
She freezes, unable to understand what just happened.
“How do you keep letting this happen? How do you keep failing? How come you can’t get it right when it matters?” Tyler’s shout grows.
A breeze kicks up again, a torn, bloodied Wrangler sweatshirt coming to lay at her feet.
She’s going to be sick.
“It’s your fault Kate!” Tyler’s harsh yell comes as she stands there, rain and wind whipping around her. She stares numbly at the spot where you had just been, the only thing left being the sweatshirt, feeling her fingers clench around nothing.
You had been gone in a matter of seconds, slipping through her fingers like smoke.
“No, but I-“ She licks her lips. “No, it can’t-“
It can’t end like this.
“Yes, Kate, yes it is!” Tyler yells, coming closer to her now. “It’s your fault that’s she’s gone! It’s her blood on your hands! It’s your fault she’s dead, just like all the others!” Tyler shouts, pacing closer to her. She flinches, raising her hands to cover her ears to block out his yells.
“Owens, stop.” Javi calls out but it all sounds muddy as she squeezes her eyes shut, willing for this to be over.
Behind her eyes, she could still see the terrified look in your eye, the way you had pleaded with Kate to not let you die. The scream you’d let out as the wind had pulled you away from her.
Suddenly, there’s a hand on her, wrenching her wrist away from her ear.
“It’s your fault she’s gone. It will always be your fault.”
Her eyes fly open, mouth around a scream.
-
Kate’s scream shatters any illusion of silence in the house as both of your heads whip towards the bedroom.
You’ve barely had a chance to rise from the table, where you’d sat with Ty in the morning light, Tyler moving closer to the bedroom, when Kate’s rushed footsteps pound against the creaky staircase and round the corner.
Her eyes are wild with fear but her body sags in relief at the sight of you. She pulls you to her chest, all but collapsing into your embrace, a sob escaping her chest.
Tyler’s brow is furrowed in concern, at least what you can see of him over Kate’s shoulder. One hand stays wrapped around her waist, the other coming to rake your nails gently under Kate’s sleep shirt as she continues to sob.
“It’s all my fault. I knew the storm was going to be too big- but I-“
You shush Kate, continuing her movement. “I’m okay, Kate, it’s okay.”
“It’s not!” She shouts, wrenching herself away from you. She wipes at her eyes with the back of her hand sniffling as she does. “It’s not okay! I could’ve gotten you killed!”
“Kate, it’s not your fault.” You try to soothe, taking a step closer to her but all that does is prompt a fresh round of tears.
“Yes, it is.” She nods sadly. “Yes, yeah it is. It was my fault then and it would’ve been my fault now too.”
You shake your head, closing the distance she’s tried to create between the two of you. “No, it’s not Kate.” You say firmly. “It wasn’t your fault then and no one blames you for those losses. It wouldn’t have been your fault yesterday and I wouldn’t have blamed you either. The weather we chase is unpredictable and ever-changing. Loss is the name of the game we play.”
She heaves a breath, her shoulders shaking. “You’re not an acceptable loss.”
“Kate, if I had died yesterday, I would’ve died knowing you and Ty had done everything you could’ve to keep me safe.” You cup her cheek, brushing away a few tears as you do so. “You did everything you could’ve for your friends back then too.”
“I couldn’t save them.” She croaks. “I couldn’t save you.”
You crowd her space, nudging her nose with your own. “Hey, you know you did, right? You saw the signs. You knew to take shelter, where to hide. You did save me. The part that matters isn’t that you could’ve failed but that you didn’t.”
Kate’s forehead meets your own, her hand finding your fingers. “I- Please don’t leave.” She whispers. “Please don’t leave me.”
You feel breathless at her request, at the desperation in her tone. Your eyes meet Tyler’s.
“I’m not going anywhere.” You whisper back. “I’m here Kate. We’re here.”

ft. susan pevensie x f! reader — the chronicles of narnia
╰₊✧ helping her girlfriend quit bed rotting for the day┊0.4k words
setting: modern au, references to narnia contains: depressed reader, bedrotting, fluff, ooc susan maybe?
➤ author's note: something self-indulgent before i go back to working on requests
Tumblr media
all she could do was shake her head in mild disappointment and sigh at the sight of you curled up in your bed, wrapped up in blankets with pillows and plushies of all shapes, sizes, and colors atop most of your body while mindlessly doom-scrolling on your phone. it was a sight that she’d seen before, you being too depressed to leave your room unless it was for food or to use the restroom for days on end. at least she knows how to force you out of your little nest.
“alright now, get up,” she commanded as she swatted your ass before moving to open the curtains, stepping over the clutter of dirty clothes and only god knows what else on the floor. you hissed like a vampire before sluggishly retreating further under the covers, hiding from the natural light you haven’t seen in ages. susan pulled on the fabric and ripped it away from your grasp with the strength of an archer, sending the stuffed animals flying in all directions and forcing you to curl up and shiver with the exposure to cold air.
“nooooo,” you whined petulently. you knew you sounded like a stubborn little child, but you didn’t care and didn’t feel ready to face the outside world yet even though you were only embarrassing yourself. you hated being at such a low point in front of susan (she doesn’t judge you for it, she never does, but you always judge yourself).
“come on, don’t be such a princess, i’m not asking again.” it was a tone she’s heard before and knew exactly how to counter it, using an affectionate nickname against you to tell you how much of a brat you’re being.
“you know, sometimes you’re more like a mother than a girlfriend,” you muttered as you finally sat up, hair wild in all directions and rubbing your eyes, giving a tight-lipped smile when you saw sae her standing by your bed.
“i think i would prefer to be called a queen with how i order you around and you always listen instead of being too stubborn,” she smiled back at you and tugged your arms to get you standing up, “come on, brush your teeth and shower, i’ll help you wash your hair.”
“you’re always helping me out when i’m like this, thank you…”
“you don’t need to thank me when i love you, it’s the bare minimum.”

‧₊˚✧ ❛[ queer headcanons - chronicles of narnia ]❜
ft. peter pevensie, susan pevensie, edmund pevensie, lucy pevensie, caspian x, eustace scrubb, tumnus, jadis, lilliandil
contains: caspeter (caspian x peter), peter's part is vague but he's definitely not straight despite what he's listed as, gay gay homosexual gay, mentioned transphobia & fights, pronouns match the ones used in the books/movies for writing consistency
➤ author's note: I saw some other people doing it, so i wanted to join in on the fun too!! remember that these are fictional characters with no set sexuality/gender, this is just for fun & for my to further procrastinate my wips
Tumblr media
━━━ .°˖✧ peter pevensie - straight ally (unless??) ˚₊ ⊹
╰₊✧ he was more than supportive of all his siblings when they came out, but never thought it was for him. like he has no issue in saying that a guy was attractive but wasn't actually attracted to him for the most part. he never properly questioned his sexuality until arriving in narnia for a second time and refuses to admit (although it was painfully obvious) that his gay awakening was a certain telmarine prince who happened to be his rival and a pretty boy— let's just say he's fighting a lot of internal demons.
━━━ .°˖✧ susan pevensie - lesbian ˚₊ ⊹
╰₊✧ (it was actually more difficult for her to accept that she didn't like men than to accept that she did like women). she was never interested in marriage proposals, invitations to dance, and general flirtatious advancements from men, finding her heart failing to flutter for any of them and only feeling general annoyance by it more than anything. she always told herself that she just hadn't met the right one, but quickly realized that she held no hope nor care if it ever happened. it wasn't until she felt her heart pounding for the first girl who displayed romantic interest for her did she begin to see love from a new perspective.
━━━ .°˖✧ edmund pevensie - transmasc demiromantic pansexual ˚₊ ⊹
╰₊✧ grew up being a tomboy who fussed over his hair growing past his ears, refused to wear dressed to mass or skirts to class, wore all of peter's old clothes instead of susan's, and then realized that he wasn't a girl. being crowned as "king edmund" was the first time he was his true self publicly, and he remained like that even back in england where he wasn't accepted by everyone. although his older brother sometimes gets into fights for his sake, he considers it as filtering out who he should spend his time with and who he should ignore. as a result, he doesn't date around much, but if someone manages to stick with him through all of his insecurities and trauma, he'll find himself slowly falling in love.

╰₊✧ she's always been a girl's girl who was for the girls! the valiant queen has plenty of love to go around, often seen spending quality with her girlfriend(s, who are probably also dating each other): having picnics, horseback riding, hosting tea parties, dancing, and so much more when she isn't performing her royal duties. she doesn't mind being intimate if her partner desires it, but she much prefers bonding in the ways listed above instead.
━━━ .°˖✧ caspian x - bisexual ˚₊ ⊹
╰₊✧ a real lover boy, flirting with both men and women, always making them swoon and blush over his handsome smile to fill an emptiness in his heart. it seemed like no one was able to ignore his irresistible charm until a certain blonde royal showed up with his sword swinging and an arrogant front to hide his true fears. caspian can’t remember the last time he felt so infuriated with someone he was determined to make his, but that would only make the victory of an eventual confession so much sweeter.

╰₊✧ grew up thinking girls were icky or had cooties before realizing that he simply wasn't attracted to them and they weren't all that bad. he's not completely uninterested in romance, just struggles to find and form a bond with a guy who doesn't think he is weird or mean, and then he struggles to determine if he likes him as a friend or potential love interest. it makes him seem picky in the eyes of others, but maybe he has a unique "friendship" with a boy from his childhood whom he writes to daily and can't envision himself with anyone else. (oh, and he's repulsed by the idea of sex, dare he say disgusted by it)
━━━ .°˖✧ tumnus - non-binary pansexual ˚₊ ⊹
╰₊✧ he doesn't care about gender within himself or his partners as the inner qualities they both possess are much more important. he could be referred to as "he" "she" "they" or something else entirely, he doesn't mind and prefers others to use whichever one they feel like. after becoming both an advisor and uncle figure to the pevensies, he helped immensely in their journey of accepting themselves since they came from a time/place where they could be ostracised for it, and they carried his wisdom long after leaving narnia.
━━━ .°˖✧ jadis - aromantic lesbian ˚₊ ⊹
╰₊✧ she doesn’t care for love nor does she have time for it. romance has never been something she ever considered adding to her long list of priorities, and it honestly made her scoff whenever she heard of it. however, she doesn’t mind having fun with a beautiful dryad who managed to look her in the eyes with an emotion other than fear and then sending them on their way before she gets tempted to eternally preserve their beauty in her growing garden of statues.
━━━ .°˖✧ lilliandil - transfem pansexual ˚₊ ⊹
╰₊✧ I don't have an explanation for this one, she has like five minutes of screen time— it feels right. she's a star who shines for all and is admired by all.
