Okay so I guess I have to say this.
Transmeds unfollow me
I don’t believe you have to have dysphoria to be trans. The reason I know I’m non-binary isn’t that I’m dysphoric but rather it’s the euphoria of expressing myself the way I want to.
Gatekeep all you want it won’t make the cis/straights like or accept you. Gatekeeping just further segregates our communities.
Accept people for who they tell you they are. Accept that change may occur and that doesn’t invalidate someone’s previous orientation. Just accept people. No not all people, obviously, there are exceptions and nuance to any blanket statement. I’m sure anyone who made it this far into my statement is the choir I’m probably singing to so refer back to my point in big font if not.
I won’t be tagging this. Don’t just filter that out. Unfollow me. And count on weekly reminders that I’m not about that life.

Do The Cooking By The Book
pairings: LAMP/CALM words: 6013 warnings: swearing, alcohol, implied panic attacks, small burn mention, general angst summary: patton bakes when he’s sad and nowadays, no amount of chewy chocolate chip cookies would be able to cover that up.
or: the five times patton bakes something for the others and the one time he can’t.
a/n- hello! welcome to part 2 of that series i mentioned before called ‘let’s indulge bean in their slightly low quality, very personal fics’ (maybe i should actually make this an actual series on ao3 lol) :’)
i have been having a bit of writer’s block between this patton/janus one shot and golden slumbers (there’s just o n e more scene i need to figure out, trust me it’s haunting my every move), so i decided to write a bit of a fresh warm up instead! and by warm up, i mean i started writing it in the beginning of july and it somehow spiralled into a big thing, like they always do :’)
inspired by my declining mental health and my unhealthy obsession with baking focaccia at 2 am :)
p.s – later there’s a [1] that’s supposed to be a footnote but the formatting just said no so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
read on ao3 ~
enjoy!

~ patton’s chewy chocolate chip cookies ~
ingredients:
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
0 teaspoon club soda
2 ½ sticks unsalted butter, softened (or melted, like my heart around my honeybees <3)
1 ¾ cups packed dark brown sugar (must be working out ;) )
¼ cup granulated sugar sugar, honey honey (except no honey :P)
2 large eggs, room temp.
2 teaspoons vanilla extract (and not any extra-ct ;) )
2 cups Virgil-esque chocolate chips*
*semi-sweet! ^v^

“Holy shit, Pat.”
Patton smiled, all toothy and wide. He was still standing beside the couch Roman was lounging on, holding up the tray with his pastel blue oven mitts.
“You like it?” he beamed. Roman nodded, scrambling over the armrest to grab another.
“Umfh, yeah,” Roman replied, crumbs spilling out of his mouth. “Ovfiously.”
“…What?”
Roman quickly swallowed and grinned sheepishly. “Sorry.”
Patton laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. “No worries! I think it’s a- dough -able.”
“…If you weren’t holding cookies right now, I’d say that you suck. But you’re holding cookies, so…“

fellow fanfic writers, does anyone else get mad at their own stats? Like one fic has more hits than the other and you get mad like ‘ugh, that bitch should not have that many hits’ but you wrote it??? you’re the bitch???

Something I think is neat and really cute about fanfic is that there’s a personal version of each character in it? Like, each writer focuses on different traits and qualities and even though there can be a hundred fics with the same character, they’re really not exactly the same.
So even if you and I are writing a fic with the same characters, they can still be uniquely different despite having the same core and they’re each dear to us personally as our take on the person.
I don’t know, I just think it’s cute that each writer cherishes these characters in personal and unique ways.

i don’t think people really get how little feedback fanfic authors actually get? like the effort to reaction ratio is so abysmally skewed here that a fic nearly 50,000 words long takes an entire year to amass like. 16 comments. someone reblogged a fic i wrote at 4 am and tagged it with a 5-word compliment and i can’t stop thinking about it, not because it was so nice but because half the time you post a fic you’re going to hear nothing and anything feels like so much
fandom culture is so, so good about giving artists the credit they’re due, but we gotta start doing that for writers too. you’ve got no idea how much people put into their stories and get maybe a handful of reblogs and a dozen-odd kudos. that’s not enough. writing is an endurance sport and y’all need to start giving fic writers a reason to endure it and improve their craft. encourage writers like you encourage artists. reblog fics, leave tags, leave comments, acknowledge that these stories do not just spring into being for your entertainment.
every single damn writer i know feels like half of their readers see them as a machine. that’s gotta change.

This is probably the strangest answer they could come up with for this strange question.
this is probably a strange question but. If you were a weapon what would you be
I'd be a glass dildo, because I could be used to bludgeon someone to death, but I primarily serve as a tool that temporarily makes your problems seem to fade away (should you choose to use me in the way that I was intended to be used).
Oh! Also a silicone-based lubricant won't damage me.

It's Just Fan Fic...
I got an email from a reader earlier. The sender was a lovely young woman who had just re-read my first published fic and wanted to tell me how much she enjoyed it—how it made her feel, how it made her smile, how it made her cry, how it made her excited to get home each night and curl up in bed with it, how it helped ease the pain of a difficult patch in her life, and how much she misses it now that it’s over. It was a beautiful letter, and my reaction to it must have been visible enough to make my saner half take notice from across the room. He shot me a questioning look, and I turned the laptop around and gestured to the screen.
I followed his eyes as they scanned each line, saw his lips tip up in a smile that grew broader as he read, then braced myself for the good natured snark I’ve come to expect when my little literary hobby comes up in conversation.
“Wow.” He said. “That was kind of amazing. How does it feel to be someone’s favorite author?”
“Don’t be a dick,” I said, slapping him on the shoulder.
“I’m serious,” he replied, gesturing to the screen. "That’s what she said—right there: You’re my favorite author.”
“I think she means favorite fic author. Not real author.”
“Is there a difference?” He asked.
“Yes,” I said, rolling my eyes. ”Of course there is.”
“Why?”
“Because, as someone in this room who isn’t ME is fond of pointing out, self published gay mystery romance novels aren’t exactly eligible for the pulitzer.” I said, turning the computer back around.
“So what?” he shrugged, “Something you wrote inspired a stranger to sit down write what it meant to them and send it to you. A lot of total strangers, as a matter of fact. You write, people read it and react. That makes you an author.”
“Huh.” I said, very eloquently, then got up and went into the kitchen to start dinner.
Hours later, sitting down to reply to the letter in question I find myself writing this post instead. Because here’s the thing: That wonderfully crazy man who lives in my house is right. (But please don’t tell him I said that)
From the moment I realized that letters made up words and words made up sentences and sentences made up worlds that were mine to explore any time I wanted to I’ve been a reader. I have fallen in love with perfect phrases and epic stories and countless characters pressed between the pages of the thousands of books I’ve read in my life so far—and sitting down to string together those same 26 letters into tens of thousands of words of stories I felt needed telling? That makes me an author.
I have adored the work of countless authors in numerous genres, and the world of fan fic is no exception. I have admired and cherished and savored the words of talented writers whose work is no less legitimate for the fact that their names include random keyboard characters and their words don’t live on bound paper on a shelf.
It’s not JUST fan fic. It’s literature. It’s published. It’s read. It’s loved.
It matters.
Thanks to all of my favorite authors for every word on every page on every screen that I’ve ever loved.

writing is the worst
u wanna write a single, passing line of dialogue so u fact check it to make sure it’s historically accurate, then suddenly you’ve lost track of time, space,, urself
for instance: I wanted to know how frequently fighter planes were used in WWI and now I’m several pages deep into the history of witchcraft in ireland
