ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER EVERYWHERE.
ZIMBABWE NEEDS YOUR HELP (please read and signal boost!) there is little to no coverage on this crisis worldwide. Rally for it just like you have for Black Lives Matter in the US, Yemen, Australian bushfires etc.

7.26.20, DC
DC protests have continued for 2 months nonstop against police violence and for Black Lives. Despite having a population greater than Vermont or Wyoming, DC’s statehood remains controversial among Republicans who can’t keep control of the government without multiple forms of voter suppresion.

“Hello, my name is Sharlene Pike and I am a black transgender person originating from South Africa and working as a receptionist/host. I moved to the United States 4 years ago alone and without any support, as my parents died in my home country when I was 18. Being a transgender black female immigrant places three discrimination barriers and makes it extremely hard to socialize and find a job to live properly. Nevertheless, I tried my best. I had been working at 7 different companies as a receptionist/host/waitress for these four years, but 2 months ago I lost my job. The reasoning I was given - ‘staff reduction due to COVID-19 complications’. I have been unemployed for these 2 months, but the reason I can’t start a new job is not COVID-19. In February, I was diagnosed with stage-3 esophageal cancer. I had no prior knowledge of my diagnosis as this type of cancer can be quite concealed, and I had only two or three weeks of eating discomfort before I had a medical consultation. The company I was working at had a special program to support staff members who need expensive surgeries or therapies, and I believe my diagnosis was the true reason I was reduced, since it happened just after I told my office I might need an extended medical leave. The sum I have spent on the medical procedures only to clarify the future treatment equals my 3 salaries. The sum I’m asking for is actually covering first 6 months of treatment and the cheapest drug - basically simply to have a chance to survive. I have no health insurance and I can’t take a new job because my health condition significantly deteriorated. The thing that I have learnt throughout these months is that it is very hard to get any, even basic medical help if you are transgender. The death rate of the esophageal cancer is about 30%, which is very high, and I ask you to help me to have a chance to survive. I tried to deal with everything without anyone by my side, but current circumstances left me with no choice but to ask you to donate and share my story. Thank you very much.”
this gofundme was started on june 19th, 2020 and as of june 30th, 2020 she still needs donations! i’ll reblog with the donation link in one moment.

Please protect our trans people! Especially our BLACK trans people! Black transgender people have an extremely high unemployment rate at 26 percent, two times the rate of the overall transgender sample and four times the rate of the general population. A startling 41 percent of Black respondents said they had experienced homelessness at some point in their lives, more than five times the rate of the general U.S. population. Black transgender people lived in extreme poverty with 34 percent reporting a household income of less than $10,000 per year. This is more than twice the rate for transgender people of all races (15 percent), four times the general Black population rate (9 percent), and eight times the general U.S. population rate (4 percent). Black transgender people were affected by HIV in devastating numbers. More than one-fifth of respondents were living with HIV (20.23 percent), compared to a rate of 2.64 percent for transgender respondents of all races, 2.4 percent for the general Black population, and 0.60 percent of the general U.S. population.
From education to employment and housing discrimination, from police brutality to health care disparities, Black transgender people are suffering at extremely high rates due to bigotry and transphobia. Nearly half of all Black transgender respondents report being harassed at work and at school. Twenty-six percent are unemployed and 34 percent report annual incomes of less than $10,000 per year. These numbers are appalling and these living conditions are unacceptable for any human being — gender conforming or not.
The black community particularly has a tendency to turn a blind eye to the hate that trans people get. We as a community are being discriminated against daily, and yet we can be the main ones who discriminate our OWN people sometimes. If Black lives matter, then ALL BLACK LIVES should matter. Yes, that includes all the QUEER and non-conforming lives as well.

SPART*A (advocacy for trans military service members)

I hope these links help! Use your voice and stand up for what’s right! Far too many black trans people have died at the hands of bigotry and violence and police brutality. We need a CHANGE and we need it NOW.

#hellajuneteenth
We’re standing in solidarity with Hella Creative’s #hellajuneteenth movement and echoing their demands: Juneteenth should be declared a federally recognized holiday. Celebrating Independence Day as a day of freedom when enslaved Black men, women, and children were not legally declared free for another 85 years (with 250,000 not told until two and a half years later) white-washes the cruel legacy of our country’s greatest sin. It’s time we demand Congress step up.
We’re stepping up, too
Starting this year, Juneteenth will be recognized as an official company holiday at Tumblr. This should have been done long ago. If you’d like to see your companies do the same, check out #hellajuneteenth’s incredible resources including templates for requesting your employer recognize Juneteenth like they recognize Independence Day. There’s also a template for an out-of-office message to help spread the word and a poster business owners can print out and hang in the office. For those eager to show their support on social media, #hellajuneteenth provides a number of graphics to share and they suggest you use the #juneteenth tag with the following caption:
We’re reclaiming our time.
For years, the enslaved people gave countless hours of free labor to their owners. Since emancipation, we have been making up for that lost time. So in true solidarity with our ancestors, it’s only right that we declare this to be a day free of labor.
This is important
Sign this petition addressed to Congress. Contact your reps and encourage them to support the initiative. Your voices have led to Minneapolis pledging to disband its police department, the arrests of the police officers responsible for George Floyd’s death, the repeal of Section 50-A in NYC, and the long-overdue demolition of Confederate statues.
Keep that energy going, Tumblr. Demand Juneteenth gets federal recognition. You’re winning, so don’t stop now.

More BLM Resources
hey!
there have been a lot of arising issues recently. police brutality is not solely an american issue. as a result, we’ve started a section on our resources page for other countries. however, it’s a little short (only one article for each of 3 countries), so if anyone has any links to good articles, petitions, or fundraisers. please send them in!! despite the movement being generically in america, we’d like to spread awareness on other countries too. please continue to check the resources page! it’ll be updated periodically with extra articles, fundraisers, and petitions as we find them.
